They pay 10%. A 10% disability rating which pays $165.92 monthly. Personally, I’d rather they keep the $ and give me back my hearing, but that’s just me.
My father got a 60% disability rating for hearing loss during his service. He calculated artillery targets by hand (no calculator, let alone computer) during the Korean War era.
Hubby was Air Force and has tinnutus as well as 90% hearing loss in both ears. VA denied him twice stating ‘must have been in combat during war time to qualify’.
Son-in-Law was Navy tech on board aircraft, has partial disability payment for partial loss of hearing. Maybe VA is not the right place to apply?
My Hispanic neighbor was on leave from the Army and killed an unarmed man with an unlicensed handgun in a nightclub drive by. The VA gave him a full disability for PTSD after he was released from prison!

Retired Magistrate here: My husband has severe hearing loss in both ears even with hearing aids. Unfortunately, this has effected his short term memory; he tries so hard to hear what I am saying that he has a hard time retaining information. We deal with it by laughing about it but it really has made a difference in his quality of life.
I accompany my husband to all doctor’s appointments so I can tell him what the doctor is saying; he is used to my voice.
I don’t think that you were trying too be insensitive; however, just realize that there are people that are struggling with hearing loss every day.

The “Best Available Science”: The CDC and the Vaccine Travel Mandate
It all started with a question – one I thought fairly simple: what data and studies has the CDC used to justify the mandate to exclude unvaccinated non-citizens, non-immigrants from entering the United States? The question stemmed from the Presidential Proclamation of 25 October 2021 in which President Biden declared a resumption of global travel to the United States.
The President proclaimed the administration would “…implement science-based public health measures” to control the transmission of COVID-19 for the nation. These measures were founded on three pillars of health and safety relating to COVID-19: vaccination, mask-wearing and testing. Of the three health pillars keeping Americans safe, mask-wearing was overturned by a court order on 18 April 2022 and the requirement for pre-departure testing was rescinded by the CDC on 10 June 2022.
The last remaining bastion of protection for the American people from international COVID-19 transmission outlined in the Presidential Proclamation was vaccination. Considering two-thirds of the proclamation’s health measures had been removed by June, 2022, I thought it pertinent to find the scientific evidence for the continued exclusion of unvaccinated non-citizens, non-immigrants from entering the US. I began to scour the CDC’s website for the evidence to support such a policy, I thought that maybe the organization would have emblazoned with their policies the evidence supporting them.
What I uncovered was a multitude of platitudes and a dearth of scientific evidence. As concerning as excluding millions of individuals from travelling to the United States without clear justifications for such a policy is, I held faith that the CDC would be able to furnish me with the information I was seeking.
So, in June of 2022, I emailed CDC Info and asked my question. I received an answer by July, but it was not quite the response I expected. Rather than supply the titles of the dozens of scientific studies they must have based their policy on, or the plethora of data upon which rested the last remaining pillar of the proclamation, they replied: “As part of the U.S. government response to COVID-19, decisions on COVID-19 travel requirements are informed by the best available science and made through an interagency decision-making process that includes the White House and other federal agencies.”
They then assured me that the “CDC continues to evaluate the requirements of its Order and determine whether additional changes may be warranted based on current public health conditions and the best available science.” So, rather than supply the “best available science” relating to my question, the CDC confirmed that the policy was based on the best available science.

At that time, my wife had already left for our retirement house 120 miles away, while I haunted a small apartment temporarily. Usually, we spent every evening talking on a ZOOM meeting. On a June evening, my wife was visiting her best friend from high school. And so, depressed that my Latin program would probably die, I spent three hours sending desperate e-mails to Classics professors at universities west of the Mississippi.
The next morning, my principal received an e-mail from a young professor, employed here in Ohio as a part-time, online Latin teacher for a small university. Dissatisfied with such a farce of a job, she very much wanted to interview for the position! She might consider getting a teaching certificate for high school: shortages abound in History and – obviously – Latin. Catholic and Christian schools could use her, perhaps even without a certificate (it varies by state).
Dissatisfied parents and teachers have started “Classical Academies” nationwide: that would be another opportunity!
I took two years of Latin in high school – about 1958-59/1959-60. What an amazing tool, even most of the details slip away, it is in the foundation. So yeah–encourage her to get into a high school setting where what she has to share is valued.

Decimus Ausonius was a “Renaissance man” 1200 years before the Renaissance: a teacher, poet, farmer, military leader, governor, and politician, he lived in the later 300 years, when the Roman state was increasingly falling apart.
As a general, he won several battles against invading barbarians. As a teacher, one of his students was the future emperor Gratian.
After spending most of his career stomping out fires and plugging holes in the ship of state, when his former student Gratian was assassinated, Ausonius decided the best thing to do was retreat to southeastern Gaul (i.e. France) and try to defend the area’s civilization as a local leader, rather than to depend on the Roman state.
He died in 390 A.D.
The Goths captured and sacked Rome 20 years later.

I wrote an essay a few weeks ago about the speed of historical events increasing with the speed of our technology: while Rome needed 200 years (300-500 A.D.) to fall apart completely, the British Empire rose and fell within 200 years, and the Soviet Empire (1945-1989) did not last 50.
While America has no “empire,” it may not have many years to handle the results of decades of treason by home-grown radicals and corrupt politicians.
When acting under compulsion, no action you take can be considered moral. Ayn Rand suggested that when ordered under threat to do something you are morally opposed to do, you should comply but only do the minimum requested. Do not offer your brain to any part of their schemes. Actions that you take under threat of force cannot be held against you, morally.
Consider the Rockinham Rebellion during the American Civil War. A group of Dunkers had refused to join the Confederate Army and were hiding out at Swift Run Gap in the Blue Ridge Mountains. They had small bore rifles and resisted efforts by Stonewall Jackson’s men to be conscripted. Having repulsed Confederate cavalry, Stonewall Jackson sent artillery to bomb them out of the forest. Most of the 500 draft resisters fled north and escaped, but the rear guard of about 50 men were captured and compelled to join the Confederate Army.
Those so compelled were poor soldiers, indeed. They would often fire their rifles at 45 degree angles over their enemies. Being useless on the front lines, they were often detailed to the wagon train.
Other men who had served on the Underground Railroad in Virginia would pay for exemptions to the draft, but were still forced into work details. They would do the minimum required and then return home.
Some of those serving in support of the Underground Railroad had their farms invaded by US troops! Their animals were slaughtered before their eyes to feed US troops, and their fences were torn down to light camp fires. Their larders were emptied and their property destroyed. The good often suffer in ways that they cannot comprehend. The Lord works in mysterious ways.
Martyrdom is not always the path. Resistance is often aided very effectively by those who submit, giving the very minimum, and then continue their acts of resistance another day. A noble death is one thing, but resistance ends with the demise of the righteous. A corroding resistance leaves the enemy of righteousness fuming but unable to achieve their evil ends. They do not plan on incomplete compliance.
You are right, martyrdom may not be the path God wants someone to take.
But if it is (think Early Church and Nero) then condemning the one who was/is called to take it is not in anyone’s best interest.
This farmer, now that Ausonius has shared the story, has brought encouragement to me – decades later.
He stands as an example to me that I must ask myself this question: what does God want me to do and am I willing to let Him take me home to Him – through someone else’s hand if that is part of His plan?
Hearing this story reminds me not to be the sellout for convenience. If I know that my place is secured by the Blood of the Lamb, then does it really matter what my end is as it is merely a release from this mortal body and the entrance to His Presence permanently?

Yesterday’s events brought back a discussion I had with my husband several years back. I had been opining about what it must feel like to be a liberal Democrat in today’s America. Basically, I tried to imagine that maybe we are on the wrong side. Maybe the liberals have it right? I think I may have had an edible or two when I brought up the discussion, but I felt it was an insightful way to examine my belief system, because, as it seems, there are about the same amount of people in this country who ARE on that side as MY side, so how can that be possible? How do I know that I am on the “correct” side?
I have been wrong about so many things over the past few decades and have been blind to so many things that I once believed. Raised a Catholic, I fought hard against the child sexual abuse scandal until I realized just how much evil there can be even within my own Church. It made me question my faith, as everything I have ever learned about God was from this very same set of people my whole life. It was almost like the day you learn there is no Santa Clause and begin to doubt everything you think you know.
And I look back and thing, hmmm….I was wrong about the Iraq War. I was wrong about the Bushes. I was wrong about Fox News. What else have I been wrong about? Admittedly, a good portion of my belief system comes from what I have learned from Fox News and other conservative outlets. (Drudge Report comes to mind.) So I look deeper and reexamine what I have always thought to be true. If these people can deceive me about all of these things, what else have I been deceived about.
So I think about what it must be like for a liberal in America. To have the MSM completely in your camp. to have the education system, the entertainment industry, corporate America and even in many cases religious organizations as well. How would it feel to actually agree with all of them? Abortion is healthcare. Trans women ARE women. I am a white supremacist because I am white. America is EVIL.
All of this has become even more intensified over the past several years with how divided the Republican Party is. All of the Trump hate. Where is it coming from? Is it really the Deep State? Or I am just afraid of the boogey man? Liberals aren’t afraid of the deep state. They just feel it is TPTB protecting them and happily go about their lives. Hmmm…wish I could be like that.
But then I look deeper at these people and see that they aren’t happy either. They are miserable. I mean, look at them. Rioting in the street. Melting down on Twitter. Seeing America as an evil institution built on white supremacy and sexism (well…it kinda is…but…for another time…) But these people are NEVER happy. NEVER. They have all of those things on their side, and yet it still isn’t enough.
So where is the TRUTH? Is it in God? I like to think so. I like to think that I can turn my heart and soul over to Him and not worry about the world. Easier said than done. Even the most fervent believers in God have fought brutal battles over the centuries and we still haven’t figured it all out. There is no agreement. Look at the numbers: Christians—2.2 billion followers (representing 31.5% of the world’s population) Muslims—1.6 billion (23.2%) Non-religious people—1.1 billion (16.3%) Hindus—1 billion (15.0%) Buddhists—500 million (7.1%) Indigenous religions—400 million (5.9%) Other religions—58 million (0.8%) There are 1.6 BILLION Muslims in the world. How can there be that many people in the same world that believe in a religion I have always seen as ridiculous? There are over a billion Hindus that believe in a whole bunch of different gods. Like what??? Who is to say I am right and they are all wrong?
And with what happened yesterday, I realize that other than my family and close friends, I am truly alone in this world and can trust no one. I can’t trust my government, the media, the people educating our children or really any organized religion in the world. I think one might call this an existential crisis in my heart. All I know at this very moment is that there is a God and he loves me. And my family and close friends love me and I love them. Should that be all that matters at the end of the day?
I am sorry for the long post, but I just wanted to put down some of my deep thoughts and see if any of you might feel the same way and/or might even have some answers for me. Because today, I feel more lost than I have felt in a very, very long time.

I see more and more regular democrats whose eyes are opening to the uniparty. In 2020 I asked my liberal sister what has Joe Biden ever done good for this country in 50 years. She couldn’t answer me. Even if we are surrounded by individuals who buy all of the MSM….it’s helpful to choose this: no group can establish or create healthy individual identity.
My late sister-in-law was a stunner in that regard. She was a very, very cute and quiet Lutheran Norwegian, North Dakota farm girl when she married my brother when they were both just out of high school in the mid-’60’s. She was busy always–raising family, giving her many gifts, getting a music education in her early 20’s, and then a Masters degree in her 50s…not to establish a career, but because she wanted to keep learning.
She never needed a group to be who she was. She was a part of and an inspiration to many groups, but she never needed the group to think for her or define her. Significant distinction.
She died about 14 years ago in her late 60s. My brother now invests his time, energy, and finances in partnering with a well established ministry…in her name…a ministry that provides “a place to land” for those who have to physically RUN to escape cult settings.
She never needed the group for identity or to tell her what to think. Her influence in many continuing groups is a blessing.

As my brother and she raised their family, they pretty quickly (like myself and my Lutheran born ‘n bred husband) stopped worrying about what the sign out front said. So none of us have described ourselves as Lutherans for many decades. Having said that, it is also true that there are very small conservative Lutheran churches that we have been a part of and have served in.

My understanding of politics and economics was based on self-reliance and the idea that things of good value only come from virtuous acts. To take from others is to appropriate their virtues as your own, and to achieve value without having to implement the necessary virtues. This is a perversion of morality and of the law of causality. Just about every Democrat policy perverts morality in this way, and attempts to subvert the law of causality.
What I didn’t know, and assume that you didn’t know either, is that the Republican Party said all the right things but never acted upon them. We were used and abused by the Republican Party, and the party only helped the Democrats in the end. Party leaders never seemed to hold the core values that they spouted. You can see this in Texas where the legislature appears to pass laws that were written by Democrats. The state is pushing green energy down our throats more than Joe Biden currently is. Their school policies look like they were written by Democrats. Education in the state is not much different than that in California. Who are these people running Texas?
We cannot rely on others in this life. Do not use the term “believe” wantonly. Do not trust authority. Let your circle of trust be small. Joy does not come from these others but from within and those you love.

I am the only MAGA supporter in an extended family of Biden supporters –yes it can be isolating. My family and I have come to the place where we don’t discuss news of the day, at least between me and them. Even that universal conversational backup ‘how’s the weather’ can get a bit too close to the edge politically –never mention a day is particularly warm unless you want to hear a climate change response!

I too have wondered what it would be like to go thru a day as a leftie. Free of being gaslighted or targeted by TPTB. Safe in a world that treats one fairly even protectively.
It can be exhausting to live with one’s head on a swive, knowning one is part of the side that is an enemy of the world around you. To censor oneself or be censored. To see oneself reflected in news stories as ‘the enemy.’
To see a two-tiered justice system morphing into that active targeting of anyone not seen as a leftie. Exhausting to be betrayed over and over by leaders we have trusted, who eventually reveal they are cowards, complicit or backstabbers.
Back to your own most basic question, can I trust my own judgment to sort thru what’s real, what’s fake, what’s the right path forward?
I’m realizing the need to prioritize my anchors, even if later the anchors prove unworthy, anchors are important. My two fur kids are anchors. Music (not the computer generated stuff) that lifts my spirit is an anchor. Coffee (actually there’s a lot of studies that support it as a mood enhancer –sorry, can’t escape my research persona).
And I need to do better in what spaces I spend time in, with what people and for how long. I’ll wade into the difficult conflicts when necessary either so as to not to sell myself out –or when necessary to move forward with saving our country.
But this is a marathon. I want to find a way to approach the days ahead in manner that is rejuvenating and keeps the spark of joy and laughter in life. I wish that for you too.

In many ways I have felt the same as you do now. One fundamental problem we all face is our society is corrupt everywhere, and even in some of the churches for example where leaders are taking money to bring thousands across the border. We all need to be part of our families and also of a larger society, so the current situation is painful.
Besides praying for guidance, the thing I am doing is looking for places where I can belong. One way is sharing with people on sites like this or listening to conservative news oulets. Another way is to take action in the hope our younger family members and children will live in a better world. Kari Lake is an example of this. She always says she is doing what she does for her children . And I remember Melanie saying “President Trump wants to help people.” Everywhere iscorrupt, but that makes for the possibility of change if you want to get involved. And maybe winning is great but just doing is also great.
The days are gone where we can just go about our lives and naturally be a part of society. Now we must choose who and what to interact with and where we want to put our attention in the larger world.
I have been so sad about all of this but now I’m starting to see I’ve been lied to in so many ways and it is exciting to explore the world and choose my place in it, and to know it is a real world and not a hot mess planned for the rich to get richer. I feel good when I pray and think I’m being shown the future is full of opportunity if we just step into it. The old is gone. No doubt about it but what we can become is open to do many new ways of being.
One thing to consider is that those people are psychologically incentivized to go against their own natural being from a very young age – they are forced to choose where to “sit” and what to stand on when they have very little comprehension of the issues they’re dealing with.
It’s no coincidence that there’s been a rise in trans kids (particularly M-to-F) among the White population – that’s their Get Out Of Social Stigma Free card.
It’s easy to see that the most brainwashed of the mass of brainwashed people out there are White women. I think their desire to align with social norms was taken advantage of but what they’re adapting their behaviors to is completely at odds with who they’d be if they weren’t relentlessly bombarded with propaganda. They’re not empowered for doing all the things they do and hating who they’re supposed to hate, but they’re told they should be. They’re not proud of themselves but they claim they are because it gets them pats on the head and scraps from the table. they’ve never been allowed to develop without propaganda – they were just innocents and were preyed upon (and it was allowed to happen…)
They’re basically trapped because their psychology was co-opted. They’ve been led away from their men, away from their children, away from their community, and away from nature and spirituality in order to posture in a system that profits from their degradation, then tosses them aside like so much trash. Yet, they scream about how much they’re doing the right thing because they need the daily affirmation telling them they’re not a fool who’s thrown away anything of real value they could have had – virtue signaling is all they have at this point, and they know that it’ll never be enough…
Meanwhile, the White guys are all dropping out of society – getting fat in their little boxes while comforting themselves with video games and porn.
I’m not even going to delve into the black culture because they seem to be reveling in their privileged status – a free pass on every type of bad behavior is an incentive to engage in that behavior and feel proud of it. Their psychology has been co-opted as well.
The system we’re in must collapse, and the structure has to be rebuilt from the ground up by people who recognize the psychological manipulation methods being used and the conduits through which those manipulations occur; they need to be nipped in the bud and we must ensure that they’re not reestablished.

I live in what is an increasingly blue community next to a toxically blue city. My street is filled with (currently very nice) true believers. My husband and I left our previous church during the first lockdown year.
My long ago and far away siblings agree with me politically and scripturally, but I have no support locally. None.
I know if I joined a group locally, possibly found online, that it is just as likely as not to contain the next Ray Epps.
Though I am trying to do better with my daily scripture reading (The Bible in a year with a friend at our new church) I could do better. Ditto my efforts praying in all things, or fasting.
For the longest time I thought that it was valuable for conservatives not to finance their own demise; I’ve been outspoken and fanatical for probably 20 years not to continue buying things Made in China, and was disappointed a couple days ago that even here on TCT people were recommending Chinese made plastic vacuum bags, and without any pushback. Friends who claim to be conservative still take their families to Disney, ripe for perversion grooming. Etc.
Only recently have I realized none of that may make any difference; we’re truly living under a totalitarian regime which will simply take what it wants, your pension, your 401K, your investments, your real estate, your business or your job, your credit or credit rating. How long have we been reading that the powers that be are lusting after the monies in our bank or retirement accounts? The legal system isn’t stopping them, the Constitution is long gone, really, what’s to stop them?
I believe Ausonius is right, his story was a beautiful depiction: We have to do the right thing regardless of the consequences, and perhaps we will be joined by others.
There has to be a reason why we are put here by God – for such a time as this.

There is a commonality amongst us, I think. Some are lucky, surrounded by others who also love the Truth. But many of us are lone rangers. This is taking a toll on us as well.
But there is one thing I do find happening, especially on the darkest days. I have decided that Father God has to be my best friend and anchor. I recognize it needs to be more than just a phrase, I must live it.
While I have focused on the friendship portion of my sentence, I recently are coming to understand that I have not allowed Him to be the only Anchor.
So, I am beginning the process of letting Him do the work that makes Him: The Anchor. I’ve had a few meltdowns, but grace and mercy are here for me.
I know that He is the only One I can fully trust. So I am working on the habit of asking Him: What do You have to say about this? Will You show me the truth? etc. He does answer.
There have been a few days when I also have felt lost. What has helped me is stating out loud: I know You are here and You are good. I know You love me and are watching out for me. I know You are my strength and my song. etc. It seems to lift me out of my malaise.

Both Fox and CNN are trying to come to the centre and pacify the American public. The American establishment know they cannot win a war against patriots. So this is social engineering to prevent the American people rising up.
Tucker Carlson was the only reliable truth teller on Fox. The corporate and financial elite pressured Fox to remove Tucker by withholding their advertising dollars, despite Tucker having the highest rating show in the country. BlackRock is by no means controlling fox news through share ownership, anymore than D&C or Vanguard is, especially looking at FOXA vs FOX stock. 6mm share increase in “ownership” is a pittance compared to their 296mm shares outstanding. Also, what is being reported is the increase in ownership of Class A (FOXA) shares, not class B shares (FOX). Class A shares cannot vote on the makeup of the board, only class B shares can. The Murdochs own 40% of Class B, BlackRock owns only 4.7% and Vanguard almost doubles them at 6.9% of Class B (voting rights for directors).
Looking at BlackRock for blame is a diversion and taking your eyes off of who and what are really responsible for the Tucker/Fox situation. If anything Vanguard would be more culpable but at 4% and 7% respectively they would be lucky to have a seat at table in the Board Room.
Please inform Sundance so he can update the Tucker article and so people stop posting “because BlackRock” and start looking at the real culprits. The Murdochs and rest of the Board at Fox, and who owns them/pulls their strings.

I made a mistake when I said all but two incumbents of the GAGOP 1st Congressional District Committee were replaced by MAGA candidates on Saturday. Try as they did by delaying the nomination process, which should have been completed by rule on April 8, 2023, but was delayed until the day before the District Convention, only the incumbent secretary was reelected to the committee.
It’s also true they delayed the credentialing process, then changed the agenda order, to get people to leave early so they could get rule changes passed. It didn’t work.
