1 Corinthians 15:35-38 “But someone will say, How are the dead raised? and with what body do they come? Fool (without mind, thoughtless, inconsiderate), what you sow, is not made alive unless it die; and what you sow, you sow not the body that shall be, but bare grain, it may be of wheat or some other (one of the rest); and God gives to it a body according as He willed, and to each of the seeds a body.”

Luke 18:13-14 “And the tax-gatherer standing afar off would not even lift up the eyes to the heaven, but was striking upon his breast, saying, God, be propitious (conciliatory; to overcome distrust and hostility) to me the sinner. I say to you, This one went down to his house justified (rendered [shown or regarded as] just, innocent, righteous) rather than the other: because everyone that exalts himself shall be humbled; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.”

Why was not the Gospel of Christ rather spoken to Adam and Eve, than to the serpent? And why, after having told the serpent about his undoing with regards to man by the coming of Christ in the flesh; did God only tell the man that he would bear the punishment of his sin, and return to the dust from which he was made? The word of faith started with our first parents hearing God telling the devil what He was going to do to save His elect. Meanwhile, the sentence upon the now alienated heathen man and his wife, were sentenced to punishment of humiliation and toil and sorrow and finally death.

The seed was sown in the beginning, where the natural had to first die, before the spiritual could come: and nothing with respect to the natural was said, to give any hope for its survival in that condition. For the man’s part, thorns and thistles, toil and sorrow and sweating face, until he faded and fell back into the ground from which he was taken: “For dust you are, and unto dust you shall return.” The word of Christ coming to break the serpent’s head, by His own being bruised by the serpent, was kept separated from the life of the alienated natural man, except by faith and hope. 

There is a lot that needs to be said about the “righteous in their own eyes, who despise others;” but for the purpose of this message, we need to look intently upon the kind which God accounts as righteous; even though he only sees himself as unfit for the Presence of God, and wholly relying on God’s mercy and power to make him another man.

They that are of the truth hear Jesus’ voice, because they receive the word in a good and honest heart; and therefore, because they acknowledge the truth, God counts them righteous for their faith in Him; apart from, and against, their own natural condition, which must die. 

The tax-gatherer presented himself before the LORD with a good and honest heart; thus showing his understanding of the truth, and acceptance of the just punishment; IN HOPE of God’s kindness, and power to change him into WHAT WOULD BE PLEASING TO GOD, in a time to come. And the answer of God, looking upon both kinds of men who came in that morning to present themselves to Him, was known of God in secret; while the men went home in all likelihood not feeling much different than when they came. 

We could imagine the Pharisee leaving the temple feeling very pleased with himself; and the other man going home with no other opinion about himself either. Whether or how much it was perceptible, the peace and assurance of the one who was respected of God; or contrariwise, the empty disapproval of the “righteous in his own eyes;” we can only guess, by our own experience. So it remains, before and after, that we still walk by faith, as long as we are in this body; until we die, when we truly know by our fruits what kind we are.

So what was the good and honest acknowledgement of the truth, which God rendered as just? We can put our own words to the spirit by which he spoke, and of what came from his lips, from his heart.

He stood before God too ashamed even to look up to Him; but set everything out in His view, an honest account of himself: God, I am not fit for Thy Presence; since for as long as I was ever old enough to know the difference between right and wrong, and make moral choices; I have been inconsiderate and incorrigible. I have been easily influenced by the bad, and been willing to go against my own conscience, for the imagined benefits of gaining acceptance and respect from other sinners; and for hoping in some kind of greatness or god-likeness, by doing what was forbidden.I have trampled upon the feelings and rights of others, especially of those who loved me, and whom I owed love. I have willfully disregarded and made light of the long term effects of such evil choices; both on my health and my life; as well as my capability to be a good contribution to my family, my community, and those who would have needed me to be a good man. Be propitious to me O God; be merciful and forgive my sin and stupidity and selfishness, that has brought harm to others and to Thy Name. Overcome my untrustworthy and hostile nature; and all the ruin I have caused in my own life; and restore what Thou did not take away. I acknowledge my sin and my transgressions, that Thou might be justified, because Thou art good and right and have never deserved anything but love and loyalty and praise. Make me another man, a man after Thine own heart, which may fulfill all Thy will, and be pleasing to Thee. Thou hast done all, and has given Thy Son to redeem me, and to save me from my sins, and make me a new man in Thine image again. Receive me in Jesus’ Name, and accept my repentance and confession of faith in Thee. Make me as one of Thy children, of those who will rejoice in the light of Thy countenance forever. And let me be accepted of all Thy children, my likewise brothers and sisters in the world; that I may be a blessing to them, and they to me, and all of us to Thee, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

This is the unshakable secret of the Lord to those who trust Him – “I will give thee thy life.” What more does a man want than his life? It is the essential thing. “Thy life for a prey” means that wherever you may go, even if it is into hell, you will come out with your life, nothing can harm it. So many of us are caught up in the shows of things, not in the way of property and possessions, but of blessings. All these have to go; but there is something grander that never can go – the life that is “hid with Christ in God.”
 
Are you prepared to let God take you into union with Himself, and pay no more attention to what you call the great things? Are you prepared to abandon entirely and let go? The test of abandonment is in refusing to say – “Well, what about this?” Beware of suppositions. Immediately you allow – What about this? – it means you have not abandoned, you do not really trust God. Immediately you do abandon, you think no more about what God is going to do. Abandon means to refuse yourself the luxury of asking any questions. If you abandon entirely to God, He says at once, “Thy life will I give thee for a prey.” The reason people are tired of life is because God has not given them anything, they have not got their life as a prey. The way to get out of that state is to abandon to God. When you do get through to abandonment to God, you will be the most surprised and delighted creature on earth; God has got you absolutely and has given you your life. If you are not there, it is either because of disobedience or a refusal to be simple enough.

Thoughts on work and working…

Sometimes I grow weary
in my business dealings so I arm myself with Scripture and Scriptural thinking.

“Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” 1 Corinthians 15:58 ESV

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” Colossians 3:23, 24 ESV

I’ve determined that any work I’m doing professionally or otherwise in the name of Jesus, for the glory of Jesus, in reliance on the power of Jesus, to give glory to the Lord, expands my joy and further opportunity to get the gospel out.

We have 2 sod jobs; 1 tree removal job; multiple stump grinding jobs; about 90 plants to install; 6 large trees to plant; 2 sod jobs; 1 very large and one small mulching job; 1decorative fence and one cedar fence job…plus regular maintenance.

If not for the grace of God coupled with bone crushing joy? I’d be a tad overwhelmed.

But I’m not 😎

Good morning everybody. So yesterday I had the Bing AI window pop up and ask me to give it a try, so I did. At the time I was researching some FBI shenanigans, so my first question to AI was something like, “what should be done with feds that ignore the Bill of Rights and wage war on the natural rights of citizens?”. The answer it gave was long and unimpressive, making excuses for why each right enumerated in the Bill of Rights has ‘exceptions’.

After that answer it told me that I had four questions left. I was already irritated at the FBI, so my second question was, “who killed LaVoy Finicum and why?”

I had to wait a long time while it considered the question. Then the screen started scrolling with a long, detailed description of the death of LaVoy Finicum on the side of the highway with the FBI drone hovering overhead.

It was on the screen for about five seconds…then it erased itself and Bing told me, “I don’t think that I want to talk to you anymore”, and the AI session ended.

Yep…Nothing weird about that at all…

I appeal to you brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment.   – 1 Corinthians 1:10

In reading today’s verse about agreeing and having no division, you might think, “Well Paul has never had a church pick out carpet color!” Obviously, the verse does not mean all Christians have to think the same way. Even Paul and Barnabas had a disagreement over Mark as a ministry partner and went separate ways over the issue (Acts 15:36-41). 

Paul’s point was that the church is grounded in the Lord Jesus. To the Philippians, Paul wrote, “Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men” (2:5-7).

A church united in Christ, willing to submit to God’s Spirit and love their brothers and sisters as themselves, will be unified.  

Jesus, in His prayer before His crucifixion, prayed for the unity of the church, “That they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me” (John 17:21). This is a good prayer to repeat.

As you pray for the United States, pray for believers to be grounded in Christ alone and willing to give and take in the daily life of the church. Pray for unity and love to be so strong that unbelievers will be drawn to the name of Christ.

Good morning all.

Yesterday was a busy day and today promises to be the same.

I gave my old white Chevy 3/4 ton pickup to my Granddaughter and her husband. I just figured they could sell it for parts and get a $1,000 or so out of it. But they want to fix it up and use it. So today they are up here from Ft. Campbell to work on it.

The brakes are completely shot. She already has the parts to do a complete brake job on it and to fix the brake lights that aren’t working and to reseal the back window, and to replace the rusted out hinges on the tail gate. but of course the weather is not cooperating. So Steve made a space to work on it in his barn!

Yesterday I tried to start it and the battery was dead and wouldn’t take a charge. Took the old one to NAPA and bought a new one and put it in after cleaning the studs for the side terminals. Went ahead and sealed the connections after getting that done.

While I was out Sherry was cleaning out the inside of the truck, which was an absolute mess, and getting my stuff out.

Once I got the battery changed out I trimmed and mowed the lawn.

Then I took to Steves and pulled it in the barn. We jacked it up and put it on jack stands and using his impact gun took off the wheels. It is raining now, but the truck is inside and dry and ready for them to start working on the brakes.

They are in Carmel (suburb of Indy) with her dad and will be here at my place at around 09:00. I’ll be helping them in any way I can. Jason and Corbin are great kids and we’ve been trying to help them out when they need it.

I had a new alternator for it and new oil filter and I hadn’t used them. So they’re in the back seat along with a can of ‘Liquid Wrench” I picked up because there is a lot of rust under there and they’re going to need it.

Today let me offer you Psalm 150 by the great Belgian-French composer Cesar Franck: I first heard it when I was six or seven, and have been awed by it for nearly 70 years:

Earlier I offered an essay on the bravery and example of an Austrian farmer named Franz Jägerstätter, who refused to serve in the Nazi Army in any way. For daring to oppose the Nazis and continuing his resistance against them he was beheaded.He is now on his way to canonization, i.e. sainthood, in the Catholic Church.

Of interest to me were the many reactions with religious sentiments.

On that basis, I wondered if any prayers existed concerning Blessed Franz Jägerstätter (“Blessed” is the stage before Sainthood), which could be used to focus our thoughts on steeling ourselves and securing a positive future for America.
In English I could find nothing.
An Austrian website in German, however, offered this salient prayer: (my translation).

Lord God,
You filled the Blessed Martyr and Father of a Family
Franz Jägerstätter
With great Love for You,
For his family,
And for all people.

In a time when politicians despised their own people,
In a time of Violence,
He came to a clear and incorruptible judgment:
You granted him the Grace to stand against Evil.
 
In union with Your Son,
And in faithfulness to his conscience,
Franz decided to stand and say NO
To the denial of Your presence,
To the disregard of Human Dignity,
And to an unjust war.

It struck me, after writing the essay mentioned above, that if we really believe in the power of prayer, it is time to enlist the aid – however such things work – of Blessed Franz Jägerstätter, whose example of Courage is an example for us today, as we see Evil spreading across the land, and an example for all times.

Every day we see the Evil of The Deep State on the march, sometimes in small ways, sometimes in large ones, a bulldozer of Evil claiming to be for us, claiming to be Christian (take your pick of lying politicians), claiming to be “building” America, when in fact they are wrecking everything from our virtues, to our schools, to our economy, to our heritage, and on and on!

Resisting this bulldozer can be wearing, as much of it is psychological and spiritual: a simple prayer like the above may have more power in it than we can know.

BE MY VOICE

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.

I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow, that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.

Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.

With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me. 

Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ.
