St. George Marathon. I ran in this race in October 1987. The goal was to run it without stopping. Or dying. Which I managed to do. The first 15 miles were easy; the rest of it.. I wasn’t sure if I would ever walk normally again. When I saw the finish line I sprinted, jumped up and slapped the banner draped over the finish line. I have the photo of me doing that buried somewhere in some boxes in a back room

Although Jesus Christ came to bring “peace [and] good will toward men” (Luke 2:14), there was “a division among the people because of him” (John 7:43). People who witnessed the same events came to very different conclusions about who Jesus was.

Some concluded, “He is a good man,” while others said, “He deceiveth the people” (John 7:12). When He healed a blind man on the Sabbath, some insisted, “This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day,” while others asked,

“How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles?” (John 9:16). Yet despite all the confusion, those who searched for truth recognized the power in His words, for “never man spake like this man” (John 7:46).

When the Jews asked Jesus to “tell us plainly” whether he was the Christ, He revealed a principle that can help us distinguish truth from error: “My sheep hear my voice,” He said, “and I know them, and they follow me” (John 10:24, 27).

I’m 51 and divorced. I have a 12 year old daughter. I think I get along well with her mom (she let’s me watch her two young twins). We’ve had to make some tough decisions since covid hit regarding schooling. I feel strongly it is God’s faithfulness to both of us that we can even exchange a word with one another let alone excited texts about food, or the girls…. good stuff.

But the schooling thing is tough for my daughter because mom and I agreed to homeschool and that I would pretty much be responsible for curriculum. Covid made it very difficult to socialize in ways she was used to.

When everyone went back to school with masks we continued homeschool. When restrictions were totally lifted I enrolled her in a few in-person classes at a private Christian academy, but going part-time she doesn’t feel connected like the rest of her classmates seem connected to one another.

I am confident she’ll be good, but it’s hard because I put her in this position. She really enjoyed her classmates but I wouldn’t let her wear masks as a condition of playing. Again, in the long run I know it was right but she’s dealing with my decisions and it’s hard in the moment.

My point in all of this is she has no idea what a bullet she dodged in being taken out of that school environment. But more than that, she’ll never understand to the depths that we do, how bizarre the whole covid thing was. Will she think stuff like that happens all the time in History? Does it? 75% of the world complied through fear and coercion. That’s crazy to imagine, right?

I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us, that the world may believe that you have sent me.  – John 17:20-21

The Lord had eaten His last supper with His disciples and now drew them into prayer with Him. The words are easy to understand, but the depth of meaning is powerful. Jesus held nothing back. He prayed for Himself, but then He prayed for these eleven men who had been faithful during the few years of His ministry.

Jesus had done all He could do and taught them all they could take in at the time. It was time now to complete His own work. 

He would send these men into the world to spread the message of salvation, but He knew they would be hated just as He was. He appealed to the Father to keep them united in their mission and purpose. He prayed that the Father would “keep them from the evil one,” sanctified in the truth of His word (John 17:15-17).  

But then Jesus prayed for you! Those who would believe in Christ as their Savior because of the words spoken and written by these men would be His Church… believers over centuries, composed of every race and ethnicity in a world the eleven could not have imagined. They would be one in spirit. As the Father and Son are one, Jesus prayed “that they also may be in us, that the world may believe that you have sent me” (v. 21). 

Unity of believers is a gift of God developed as the love of Christ is perfected in each one. As Christ prayed for you, pray now for God’s love in His followers… a love that will challenge this nation and its leaders to seek the Lord of glory.

WHAT DO YOU WANT?
 
“Seekest thou great things for thyself?” Jer. xlv. 5
 
Are you seeking great things for yourself? Not seeking to be a great one, but seeking great things from God for yourself. God wants you in a closer relationship to Himself than receiving His gifts, He wants you to get to know Him. A great thing is accidental, it comes and goes. God never gives us anything accidental. There is nothing easier than getting into a right relationship with God except when it is not God Whom you want but only what He gives.
 
If you have only come the length of asking God for things, you have never come to the first strand of abandonment, you have become a Christian from a standpoint of your own. “I did ask God for the Holy Spirit, but He did not give me the rest and peace I expected.” Instantly God puts His finger on the reason – you are not seeking the Lord at all, you are seeking something for yourself. Jesus says – “Ask, and it shall be given you.” Ask God for what you want, and you cannot ask if you are not asking for a right thing. When you draw near to God, you cease from asking for things. “Your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask Him.” Then why ask? That you may get to know Him.
 
Are you seeking great things for yourself? “O Lord, baptize me with the Holy Ghost.” If God does not, it is because you are not abandoned enough to Him, there is something you will not do. Are you prepared to ask yourself what it is you want from God and why you want it? God always ignores the present perfection for the ultimate perfection. He is not concerned about making you blessed and happy just now; He is working out His ultimate perfection all the time – “that they may be one even as We are.”

Good morning, dear Treepers!!😊🌿💞

Thank You Lord for another day to do the right thing. By Grace I avoided a serious car accident yesterday driving to Dollar General for cat litter after complaining here about knee pain and back inflammation. Nothing like a near miss with death or serious personal injury to melt away all of the silly mental constructs we burden our selves with watching the joy thieves systematically destroy our way of life.

Driving habits out here on the rural roads in “Sinkhole Country” have never been good in the nearly 10 years I have been Blessed to call this pocket of Old Florida home. Now we have newbies from the NE, Chiraq, Cali, South Florida and Pennsylvania whose driving skills already leave something to be desired, that are confused at best with our rusticated two-lane road system. Throw in “smart” device addiction to the mix and it’s enough to make me want to take the johnboat to town and walk to the grocery from the boat ramp. Have a better day than expected Treehouse Family, I know I will.

“USA TODAY/ usatoday.com is seeking a reporter to join its Fact Check Team. This reporter will investigate viral misinformation on social media, debunking falsehoods and elevating truthful information.

When I read the first sentence, I thought, “I could do that.” Then I read the second sentence and realized there’s no way I’d get the job. One look at any of the dozens of my video reports posted by Sundance would immediately disqualify me.

Several of my reports from J6 to mask and vaccine mandates have already been banned by YouTube. There’s no way my “truth-telling” would conform to “The Narrative.”

Oh, well, the job hunt continues. In Indiana. Just escaped California. Ten years there was ten years too long.

BE MY VOICE

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.

I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow, that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.

Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.

With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me. 

Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ.

Earlier I offered an essay on the bravery and example of an Austrian farmer named Franz Jägerstätter, who refused to serve in the Nazi Army in any way. For daring to oppose the Nazis and continuing his resistance against them he was beheaded.He is now on his way to canonization, i.e. sainthood, in the Catholic Church.

Of interest to me were the many reactions with religious sentiments.

On that basis, I wondered if any prayers existed concerning Blessed Franz Jägerstätter (“Blessed” is the stage before Sainthood), which could be used to focus our thoughts on steeling ourselves and securing a positive future for America.

In English I could find nothing.

An Austrian website in German, however, offered this salient prayer: (my translation).

Lord God,
You filled the Blessed Martyr and Father of a Family
Franz Jägerstätter
With great Love for You,
For his family,
And for all people.
In a time when politicians despised their own people,
In a time of Violence,
He came to a clear and incorruptible judgment:
You granted him the Grace to stand against Evil.
 
In union with Your Son,
And in faithfulness to his conscience,
Franz decided to stand and say NO
To the denial of Your presence,
To the disregard of Human Dignity,
And to an unjust war.
With his trust in You,
He sacrificed his life
Because he loved you above all things.

It struck me, after writing the essay mentioned above, that if we really believe in the power of prayer, it is time to enlist the aid – however such things work – of Blessed Franz Jägerstätter, whose example of Courage is an example for us today, as we see Evil spreading across the land, and an example for all times.

Every day we see the Evil of The Deep State on the march, sometimes in small ways, sometimes in large ones, a bulldozer of Evil claiming to be for us, claiming to be Christian (take your pick of lying politicians), claiming to be “building” America, when in fact they are wrecking everything from our virtues, to our schools, to our economy, to our heritage, and on and on!

Resisting this bulldozer can be wearing, as much of it is psychological and spiritual: a simple prayer like the above may have more power in it than we can know.

And this short piece of music by another Austrian, the great composer/symphonist Anton Bruckner, is a fitting companion here: well worth 3 minutes of your time, as it is one of the greatest motets ever:
