Poland, and let’s be honest, Hungary and Romania as well, have been dreaming for years of taking over Ukraine’s western regions,” Medvedev added. His statement marks the first time that a high-ranking Russian official, at least indirectly, has recognized the legitimate territorial claims of Romania, Hungary, and Poland to territories that are currently occupied by Ukraine.
The link doesn’t elaborate on Medvedev’s entire proposal, but mine would be, the west and southwest regions to Poland, Hungary, and Romania, respectively. The central rump Ukraine unaligned and neutral with Odessa as an autonomous region with its status enshrined in the UKR constitution. Ukraine gets access to the Black Sea, and Russia gets a buffer with NATO, with Russia’s new border internationally recognized. The Russian conflict regions rebuilt by Russia and the Ukraine regions rebuilt by EU and US(the US taxpayer doesn’t deserve having to pay more, but there it is).
All that is doable if…if Russia defeats the Ukraine and is internationally recognized as having done so. Peace has never come except by victory of one side.
