Power promoting the international double standard

In “How Democracy Can Win”, Power advocates a familiar form of muscular support for civil society and aid to weak or struggling elected governments on the front line of this “battle”, in places such as Zambia and Moldova.
USAID has a budget of around $60bn in the current financial year, the majority of which goes to “international security assistance”, primarily Ukraine ($36.7bn in emergency supplementary funding). The Biden Administration granted the USAID administrator a permanent seat on the National Security Council, a strong indicator of USAID’s key role in US national security strategy.
“The United States and other democracies must work more closely with the private sector and civil society groups to identify challenges, build partnerships, and increase investments in digital freedom around the world,” she writes.
As a pioneer of the responsibility to protect doctrine, Power played a key role in convincing President Barack Obama to intervene and overthrow the Gaddafi regime in Libya in 2011, a war that has had long-term negative consequences for the whole of the Sahel.
Power explains that the US and allies “have formed the Coalition for Securing Election Integrity”, which will “help identify critical elections that the United States and other donor countries can help support and monitor”
Power favours gestures such as foreign leaders visiting countries to show their support for certain leaders and parties during critical elections, something that is commonly known as foreign interference in domestic politics.
Power explains how US aid had been used in Moldova to expose “external actors’ interference” in the electoral process, by backing pro-Russian parties. There is an inherent contradiction here that Power is determined to ignore: US political funding to aid “transparency” is political interference. It may appear to be benevolent from the US point of view, but from the point of view of states or parties who are deemed hostile to US interests, it is simply doing the same thing that it frequently accuses Russia or China of doing.
any nation that does not want to see their democratic principles eroded should literally be arresting and/or kicking out ANY foreign member of this NGO, and any citizens found accepting money from them should be arrested.
Maybe in their own legislatures they should pass laws against foreign NGOs meddling in their nation and attach a death penalty to it. Maybe that will put an end to this insanity. These people are ruining the world.
This security assistance business, in State and DoD (other agencies?) is one area where money can be saved by throttling back the program(s). And Samantha Powers travel funds, too, while you are at it.

“The Pied Piper” a fairytale
With the latest hijinks from the swamp rats, the indictment of our Great American President Donald J Trump, the fairytale works nicely again.
For me, this is not an action of confidence, but of desperation and I look for more lunacy to continue, until Toto pulls the curtain fully back and it will not be good old Frank Morgan (The Wizard) but the devil himself.
The story goes that a village in Germany, Hamelin. The city was suffering through a rat infestation when a mysterious man in Pied (colorful) clothing showed up (President Trump) and told the mayor he’d rid the village of their rats for a 1000 Guilders.
As he said he led the rats out of the village with his magic flute (brash New York attitude) and into the river.
He came back for his payment to which the mayor declined (stole our victory/vote). The mysterious piper fired up his magic flute and thus time lured the children (Red Pilling) from the city never to be seen again.
Like with most fairytales in ancient times they were not sugar and spice, but were used to teach a lesson to the young. They didn’t have TV’s but sent messages through stories, fables, fairytales, iconography et al as most people couldn’t read. So for fun, let’s whip this fairy tale on where we find ourselves.
President Trump is the Pied Piper in the story. He came to the Shinning City on the Hill promising to rid the city of its (swamp) rat infestation, and the people elected him resoundingly twice. And sure as shootin’ he started to do just that, the swamp rat population was going down, to which he resoundingly and fairly won a second term to finish the job. But the swamp loves their swamp rats and instead of allowing President Trump to finish his/our work, decided to steal the election or in keeping with the fable, denied payment.
Now comes the fun part. Being denied his payment his/our landslide victory and the people still wanting to rid the nation’s capital of its (swamp) rat infestation. Angered by this President Trump and his Deplorable army are going to come back and will lead the children (remaining swamp rats) away to never be seen again.
This will happen if we find our commonality. If we fracture and divide aka “Divide & Conquer”, the swamp will pick us off one by one. The really fun part, one way or another, we’ll get to pay for it, whether they get us in a stupid war (Ukraine) starve us, poison us, racial strife, or deplete your resources, retirement funds, they mean to kill us off.
We must WAKE UP! Hang tough, stay alert; be prepared as this is going to get worse, before it gets better. I firmly believe the Piper will extract his/our payment in time. Today’s criminal activity by the swamp in NYC is again the mayor denying our 1000 Guilders and the Piper (our VSGDJT) doesn’t seem worried and will fire up his magic flute and lead the swamp rats away.
Follow President Trump’s lead he’s calm, cool and focused. Stay alert.
Please Lord guide us through the valley of death and give the strength to resist this rampant evil.

I was trying to figure how the Stalinists in NY came up with 34 different counts against PDJT if this case involves only one (perhaps two) supposed ‘campaign’ payments.
I’m thinking they went back to the various documents the Trump Campaign had to file along the way regarding campaign expenditures and wherever the ‘hush money’ wasn’t recorded in those filings, they made it a separate and distinct count, although the entire case was fabricated based on just one (or maybe two) payments.
In other words, the multiple counts are likely just fluff and “puffery”.
I remember something to do with President Elect Trump having to make legal changes within his multiple businesses and trusts, prior to being inaugurated, due to what I think, (was so long ago so am not sure) was conflict of interest as a POTUS?
Does anyone remember that and what it was all about? I wonder if there was an error?

I was thinking along similar lines; shortly after President Trump won the election he, along with his lawyers and accountants, did one of those televised signings where he signed over control of all of his businesses to either blind trusts or he formally resigned from some of his enterprises appointing his children and in some cases trusted advisors to run, control, own, those businesses.
And have been wondering if it is in those documents that the valuations of those enterprises the then President-Elect Trump was signing are the numbers the DA’s office is using to claim false valuations in order to fit inside some arcane, specific to NY tax code, violations.

I offered this a few days ago concerning the “revolt of the peasants” idea… It has been suggested that I offer it again, as the original may have been somewhat buried…
Some 30 years ago, Italian scholar Umberto Eco pointed out in an essay The Return of the Middle Ages that the world’s elites were not unlike Medieval and early modern aristocrats, who found nationalism quite bothersome, as they attempted to improve their medieval contracts with the peasants and merchants, and who married among themselves across national and linguistic boundaries, and separated themselves from their own people, not just by living in castles and estates, but even by living abroad.
Russian aristocrats often infamously lived in France and knew French better than Russian. World War I saw the ultimate family feud, British, German, and Russian imperial families all were connected, if not related, by aristocratic marriages.
Umberto Eco demonstrated how a parallel phenomenon was occurring in the 1980’s: a bank CEO in Germany had much more in common with e.g. a Hong Kong or Japanese or American multi-millionaire than with an average German in Cologne.
They met with each other at international conferences isolated from the rabble down below. The elites often lived in penthouses and flew in helicopters from rooftops to avoid the streets below and contact with average people there.
Their children often attended international schools, and their houses – if they did not live at the tops of skyscrapers – were in walled compounds, often with private security guards, again not unlike medieval aristocrats.
The elites value international connections to increase their prosperity much more than national prosperity. Look at the mixture of CEO’s at banks and large corporations: e.g. Volkswagen, a German company, has placed a Frenchman in charge of Bentley, a British carmaker owned by Volkswagen.

And so, several decades after Eco’s observation, we indeed see a “neo-medievalization” slowly happening everywhere and rooting ever more deeply, with the middle class evaporating (such an economic class was very small in the Middle Ages, as the great majority was poor) and with an arrogant, overweening elite exploiting the despised, “deplorable” people “down below” their towers.
The 21st-century peasants indeed need to revolt, before it is too late.
For our modern international aristocrats have much more wealth and technology at their disposal than the aristocrats of old, so that they can maintain their bases of power.
Physically removing them from their positions must always be an option.
An addendum: it is not for nothing that Gutenberg’s printing press was followed by revolts against both Church and State, for the machine allowed people to understand things more deeply by reading !
Literacy spreading among the lower classes was an important aspect for the formation of Modern Times (i.e. post 1450 ): quite simply, without the printing press and the spread of ideas through reading, we would not be living the lives we have today.
This is why I believe the Elites want the schools to stay awful, want people to have no more than a Third-Grade reading level, want to have “entertainment” as idiotic and bestial as possible for the “Canaille,” for the “Lumpenproletariat,” so that a realization of the chains around their minds will never happen, in order to start placing chains around their feet.

A sad day in America today – a funeral day for a friend, the used-to-be America that I was born into, grew up loving, and now grieve for. It is always darkest before the dawn, the old saying goes, and we have yet more circles of Hell to pass thru before we are done.
I am a fan of Strauss and Howe’s trenchant analysis of the cycles of human history, and it is obvious that we are deep into a Fourth Turning. Things will be bad, very bad, but strong men and women are on the way. I will admit to being befuddled at the seeming vacuity and emptiness of succeeding generations of Westerners, but have determined that in the short time I have left in this life I will lay down my burden and pass the torch as I approach the leaving of this mortal coil. It is now simply up to the younger generations to either retain or rebuild, depending on the circumstances of our demise and rebirth.
I will of course stand by and play the wizened sage to whomever may deign to entertain my thoughts and ponderings, and perhaps pass a crusty jewel or three along for restoration and safekeeping. We elders leave a parched and slackened legacy, and a coarsened and worsened civilization, behind as the heritage for our youngers, and it will be in their hands, now, that Humanity lives or dies. May God speed them on their journey to the place beyond where we now find ourselves, and may God be with them as they hopefully rediscover the wonder and beauty of the Spirit.
