DeSantis is going to meet his wall soon and then we will see if FL means anything to him. If he wants to pursue the Pres. then he can do it in 2028.

I think DeSantis just cooked his own political goose. If he runs he will alienate many Trump voters who looked at him as the heir apparent to MAGA. He could have brightened his future presidential chances by announcing he was not running in 2024 at the beginning of the year. He’s exposed himself as a greedy, opportunistic politician seeking another higher office.
I think he’s counting on Trump being indicted so he sees this as his chance to run for president. Bad choice. He hooked his political wagon to the GOPe. He may not know it yet but his political future is toast!

I would argue that we have always over-stated our “role as world leader.” Somehow we arrogantly think that we should “make the rules” for the rest of the planet even though “we” are a distinct minority both in terms of population and resources. This is an entirely untenable position to take, and also entirely unnecessary. It’s a great big wonderful world out there, with many beautiful human cultures – all different.
The more de-centralized it becomes, the stronger and safer it will be.
We should embrace the concept of a “multi-polar world” which is well-equipped with multiple, redundant, competing ways to do things. Robust, fault-tolerant, abuse-resistant trading systems and banking systems. We have the capacity to do all of these things, using technology “off the shelf,” and the USA should be among those most-actively supporting it. But, “pride goeth before the fall.” In doing what we have chosen to be doing now, we are only needlessly harming ourselves. “It isn’t 1945 anymore.”

I certainly agree that “this was no mere ‘fall.'” Most of us have (or have had) elderly parents of about his age, and so we actually understand and will pray.
Just, “come clean.” Tell the truth. And, “it’s okay to be scared.”
What is certainly not okay is to suffer a devastating injury – such as a stroke – and then try to remain in office and pretend that it didn’t happen. Sometimes, “Fate sux.” But you have to play the cards that you are dealt even when one of them is a Joker. And, you have to be brutally honest with the People who hired you. Florida has some very scary laws on the books. They legally have the right to forcibly jab you and that law was passed under DeSantis.

Exactly. Lockdowns were awful as we knew they would be once they went longer than two weeks. But in defense of all leadership, nobody was given the straight story from those in the know at the cdc or fda or the task force. They lied.
Each governor had to make their own best decisions until more information was confirmed. We all were in the same boat. DeSantis and others, especially in red states, were being given lots of the wrong facts and it was a dicey time to be trying to manage and stop what was being billed as an absolute killer pandemic. Stats were proving otherwise and eventually some sane outcomes happened, mostly in those red states, FL included.
Other issues with DeSantis might be relevant to his agenda, but the Covid lockdowns happened due to misinformation on the federal agencies. I don’t fault any governor for their initial actions. Those in the know are the real criminals in the whole Covid mess. They need to be jailed.
The lazy house needs to get off the show trial diatribe and impeach Biden. What are they waiting for, an invitation?

For those of you who might be interested. The Oscar winner Everything, Everywhere All At Once happened to be on a pay channel that I subscribe to. Here is a lay person’s review and I think it absolutely ties into Hollywood and our present day culture wars.
Spoiler if you care. The movie is about a middle aged Chinese woman who owns a laundry mat with her husband. The story is kind of a flashback/time warp thing that was very hard to follow at times. In the present, her husband wants a divorce, her daughter is a lesbian, and they are in debt and Jamie Lee Curtis plays the remarkably stupid role as their IRS agent.
Through the movie she reimagines her life through these flashbacks without the choices she has made in the present. A bit of stereotyping for one character who was called “long nose”.
It was so hard to follow because it was subtitled American for their Chinese speaking and then they would speak English and it was impossible at times to keep up. My wife asked me why I kept watching. Response, no how bad the movie I have always watched until the end.
Long story short. A story about her mother that wouldn’t let her daughter go/get along with her at the same time. At one point calls her fat and doesn’t like her lesbian girlfriend.
In the end, mother/daughter fine, no divorce and IRS agent, JLC gives them more time to pay off debts.
JLC was interviewed with her Oscar the next day on one of the morning shows and she called the Oscar they/them dedicated to her lesbian daughter.
Oh yea and it wasn’t even close to Top Gun Maverick.

I just watched TG Maverick last weekend and found myself angry at the end. Tom Cruise, with this movie, “saved” Hollywood according to Spielberg. Tom Cruise should have, at the least, received a nomination, and was snubbed again. Had there been an LGBQ**** in the movie I expect he would have been nominated, AND won. Sick of this industry and their perversions.
Tom did a competent job with the re-make, as he always does, but it was only a re-make and was essentially the same thing as before. They did it well and made a lot of money but it wasn’t Oscar material.

Subtitling is yet another skill fallen by the wayside.
I tried to watch that movie and lasted about half an hour or so. It was an exceedingly bad movie. Pointless, directionless and just well… bad! How it won an Oscar I just cannot fathom.

For three and a half years, I ran investigations for the United States Senate looking into corruption in science and medicine. The New York Times published multiple stories about my work on the dangers of the diabetes drug Avandia, as well as an investigation I began for the Senate after I discovered a Walter Reed doctor falsified a medical study.
But among the numerous inquires I led, few were as complex as my examination of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and secret corporate payments made to physicians. This sprawling investigation of NIH grants ran for years, generating coverage across the country, including in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Businessweek, Bloomberg, Dallas Morning News, Associated Press, Los Angeles Times, Science Magazine, CBS Evening News, and NPR.
As Nature Magazine reported, my investigation into biomedicine disrupted the lives of several top researchers in America, causing one Institute leader to step down, and forcing the NIH to reform regulations on conflicts of interest.

Wealthy Executives Make Millions Trading Competitors’ Stock With Remarkable Timing
Never-before-seen IRS records show that CEOs are sometimes making multimillion-dollar bets on the stocks of direct competitors and partners — and doing so with exquisite timing.
On Feb. 21, 2018, August Troendle, an Ohio billionaire, made a remarkably well-timed stock trade. He sold $1.1 million worth of shares of Syneos Health the day before a management shake-up caused the company’s stock to plunge 16%. It was the largest one-day drop that year for Syneos’ share price.
The company was one Troendle knew well. He is the CEO of Medpace, one of Syneos’ chief competitors in a niche industry. Both Syneos and Medpace handle clinical trials for biopharma companies, and that year they had jointly launched a trade association for companies in the field.
The day after selling the Syneos shares in February 2018, Troendle bought again — at least $3.9 million worth. The value of his Syneos stake then rose 75% in the year that followed.
In February 2019, Troendle sold much of that position, netting $2.3 million in profit. Two days later, Syneos disclosed that the Securities and Exchange Commission was investigating its accounting practices. The news sent the company’s shares tumbling. Troendle’s sale avoided a 25% loss, the stock’s largest decline in such a short period during either that or the previous year. (Troendle declined to comment.)

The next one is very interesting because the author assumes the climate models are correct, but then goes on to prove with copious facts and analysis that not only are the predicted dire consequences wrong, but also that any changes can be FAR more cheaply and effectively countered by active ADAPTATION than by radical (and pretty much hopeless thanks to India and China) attempts at CO2 reduction.
And rather than trying to radically and suddenly end fossil fuel use, something he points out will inevitably be catastrophic, count on a market driven (monetary savings driven) increases in the efficiency of their use as well as a natural increases in their price with time making alternative energy more economically practical WITHOUT subsidies.
