Jesus came to a town of Samaria called Sychar,
near the plot of land that Jacob had given to his son Joseph.
Jacob’s well was there.
Jesus, tired from his journey, sat down there at the well.
It was about noon.
A woman of Samaria came to draw water.
Jesus said to her,
“Give me a drink.”
His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.
The Samaritan woman said to him,
“How can you, a Jew, ask me, a Samaritan woman, for a drink?”
—For Jews use nothing in common with Samaritans.—
Jesus answered and said to her,
“If you knew the gift of God
and who is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink, ‘
you would have asked him
and he would have given you living water.
The woman said to him,
“Sir, you do not even have a bucket and the cistern is deep;
where then can you get this living water?
Are you greater than our father Jacob,
who gave us this cistern and drank from it himself
with his children and his flocks?”
Jesus answered and said to her,
“Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again;
but whoever drinks the water I shall give will never thirst;
the water I shall give will become in him
a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
The woman said to him,
“Sir, give me this water, so that I may not be thirsty
or have to keep coming here to draw water.”
Jesus said to her,
“Go call your husband and come back.”
The woman answered and said to him,
“I do not have a husband.”
Jesus answered her,
“You are right in saying, ‘I do not have a husband.’
For you have had five husbands,
and the one you have now is not your husband.
What you have said is true.”
The woman said to him,
“Sir, I can see that you are a prophet.
Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain;
but you people say that the place to worship is in Jerusalem.”
Jesus said to her,
“Believe me, woman, the hour is coming
when you will worship the Father
neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.
You people worship what you do not understand;
we worship what we understand,
because salvation is from the Jews.
But the hour is coming, and is now here,
when true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and truth;
and indeed the Father seeks such people to worship him.
God is Spirit, and those who worship him
must worship in Spirit and truth.”
The woman said to him,
“I know that the Messiah is coming, the one called the Christ;
when he comes, he will tell us everything.”
Jesus said to her,
“I am he, the one speaking with you.”
At that moment his disciples returned,
and were amazed that he was talking with a woman,
but still no one said, “What are you looking for?”
or “Why are you talking with her?”
The woman left her water jar
and went into the town and said to the people,
“Come see a man who told me everything I have done.
Could he possibly be the Christ?”
They went out of the town and came to him.
Meanwhile, the disciples urged him, “Rabbi, eat.”
But he said to them,
“I have food to eat of which you do not know.”
So the disciples said to one another,
“Could someone have brought him something to eat?”
Jesus said to them,
“My food is to do the will of the one who sent me
and to finish his work.
Do you not say, ‘In four months the harvest will be here’?
I tell you, look up and see the fields ripe for the harvest.
The reaper is already receiving payment
and gathering crops for eternal life,
so that the sower and reaper can rejoice together.
For here the saying is verified that ‘One sows and another reaps.’
I sent you to reap what you have not worked for;
others have done the work,
and you are sharing the fruits of their work.”
Many of the Samaritans of that town began to believe in him
because of the word of the woman who testified,
“He told me everything I have done.”
When the Samaritans came to him,
they invited him to stay with them;
and he stayed there two days.
Many more began to believe in him because of his word,
and they said to the woman,
“We no longer believe because of your word;
for we have heard for ourselves,
and we know that this is truly the savior of the world.”
Amen.
“God has given unto man freedom of will, that he may choose between good and evil. For God desires that man shall come to him of his own choice, not like a slave that serves for hire, but like a son who serves his father in love.”

Praise be to You, our Lord, Jesus Christ!
Thank you for posting this video, Menagerie. I so love this beautiful series. He blesses us at this time with His truth in the form of good people acting out His message, funded by crowds of people who are clamoring to see it.
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for giving us this renewed hope to banish the despair we feel in this country (and throughout the world). I am trying to notice Your gifts and pray for Your help in righting the listing ship that is the United States of America.
Watched it. Hooked from the first minute…amazing series.
Bought the entire series that is thus far finished (can’t wait for season 3 in April).
Gave the series as gifts. We wear the shirts proudly. Especially teen daughter in a challenging public high school with many evildoers. (We have no alternatives, so believe firmly The Lord placed us here for a reason. At first, it was dismay… but then my Spirit turned to our Lord and I said “Abba Father, did You place us here to witness all that is to transpire? Did You deem us worthy to witness this most important time? He replied to me that He Has placed us in the cleft of the rock sheltered by His Righteous Right Hand and I’m to record what we witness. What an HONOR!”
Sometimes it’s just us fully leaning in to our absolute faith in Him totally sold out lock, stock, and barrel to God… even with death.
Matthew 10 Matthew 10 Matthew 10 (NIV)
We stand and take back ground. We don’t retreat.
We smile and walk gently doing it… until we come across challenge by evildoers… then it’s all firmness and stand and revealing light to their darkness. It’s a battle and He’s prepared us to fight.
Darkness recoils at His Name. darkness doesn’t believe we will fight back and push back and assert. darkness is wrong. darkness, evil, and satan don’t receive capital letters… they aren’t worth it.. and I remind them every… chance…I… get!
Blessings Eric
And you wouldn’t BELIEVE the people my daughter had been able to reach and impact in that public high school. Students come to her because she is safe and she is Holy and she prays victorious prayers. She stands and she intercedes and she flips bullies to be upstanding good humans. All through Christ and to His Glory.. she is a warrior in faith… and has been since she was saved by Him in childbirth and as soon as she could toddle. She’s always drawn courage, love, and faith from her one and only True Father in Heaven. Abba. In Jesus’s Name.. Amen
Season 3 is streaming now on the Angel App.
Amazing series.
Loved it, Old Joe. Watched it roll out in real time all the way through. Ordered two copies of season 3, but they don’t deliver until April sometime. Yes, they are most gratefully available for free online, but we wanted to order copies in the event something weird happens to the internet (the times and insanity we live in).
We also support The Chosen through their fundraising campaigns. Between the series and Sundance, we don’t have much to give… but we give all we can to promote the rise of Truth and Sunlight.
Bless you, Old Joe.
Yes. That awesome series was beautifully produced and faithful to the Bible story while being very realistically acted.
We can all drink the living water of faith, forgiveness, and hope that Jesus gave to the Samaritan woman, that we can worship the Father directly through our hearts in His Son’s Name, without need of buildings or other “holy” men to intercede for us.
Amen Deborah!
We keep our eyes fixed on Him and Him alone.
Blessings for you to keep seeing and hearing Him everywhere you go!
I’ve been spending time on Matthew 10 (NIV) this weekend. All of it.
It was good to see the actual scripture printed so that there was no need to click on the video to focus on what was actually said. It’s so much better to have a true narrative in front of us then have false or
misleading impressions about what was said as this series often appears to be creating on an ongoing basis.
Amen.
The King is coming soon!
Fill My Cup Lord, sung by Herald Choir Uganda
These Christians have counted the cost of being a follower of Jesus….many Ugandan Christians are persecuted and pay with their lives.
Hallelujah!
Come and see the Messiah who told me everything I’ve ever done.
He Is Righteous, Just, Pure, Holy and Good and He does not turn away when humanity does.
He did not come to condemn the first time, He came to SAVE.
The second coming will be to war with evil and the Nicolaitans of the false church and to restore His Holy Church on earth… a double edged sword from His mouth. Come, Lord Jesus, come. Voices calling out from under the altar “When Lord when?”
In Jesus’s Holy and Saving Name, AMEN
Menagerie,
In the Series…. when the disciples and Jesus go to spend the night at the Samaritan woman’s house and her husband says something about one of the rooms and Jesus says “Oooo, I’ll take THAT one!”
Lord, have mercy, I laughed so hard. And when He healed the man who had been an attacker and the disciples tilled His field… Jesus woke the next morning… smiled in His bed and did a wee little thing to mention that a miracle was unfolding.
THAT IS THE CHRIST I KNOW.
He is Loving. Pure. Funny. Real Tears. Real Joy. Real Courage. He Sees us all for who we truly are and speaks directly to our souls through the Holy Spirits.
I’ve been watching The Chosen, and yesterday, I saw this episode. I had watched the first season a few years ago, and now started the second season. What a beautiful portrayal to show during Lent.
3RD SUNDAY OF LENTEntrance Antiphon
My eyes are always on the Lord,
for he rescues my feet from the snare.
Turn to me and have mercy on me,
for I am alone and poor. Cf. Ps 25 (24):15-16
OR
When I prove my holiness among you,
I will gather you from all the foreign lands;
and I will pour clean water upon you
and cleanse you from all your impurities,
and I will give you a new spirit, says the Lord. Cf. Ez 36:23-26
CollectO God, author of every mercy and of all goodness,
who in fasting, prayer and almsgiving
have shown us a remedy for sin,
look graciously on this confession of our lowliness,
that we, who are bowed down by our conscience,
may always be lifted up by your mercy.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Lord, show us Your Face and we shall be saved.
Commentary by Bishop Robert Barron
THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT
JOHN 4:5–42
Friends, in today’s Gospel, Jesus encounters the Samaritan woman. Throughout the Old Testament, wells are trysting places. Abraham’s servant found a wife for Isaac by a well; Jacob met his wife, Rachel, by a well.
Therefore, when St. John tells us that Jesus encountered a woman at Jacob’s well, we should expect that something like marriage is in the offing. The Samaritan woman stands, says St. Augustine, for the Church, which is the bride of Jesus.
The Samaritan woman tells Jesus that she is unmarried. Jesus responds with devastating clarity: “You are right in saying, ‘I do not have a husband.’ For you have had five husbands, and the one you have now is not your husband.’” Think of the five husbands as five errant paths that the woman has taken. She has “married” herself to wealth, pleasure, honor, power, material things, etc. Or think of them as five ideologies or gurus that she has followed, hoping to find joy.
The point of the story is that Jesus is proposing marriage to the woman, to his bride the Church. Only in him will the human race find happiness, peace, and the “spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
I just watched this earlier today on youtube! There is more detail in the video; thanks for posting.
O God, author of every mercy and of all goodness, who in fasting, prayer and almsgiving have shown us a remedy for sin, look graciously on this confession of our lowliness, that we, who are bowed down by our conscience, may always be lifted up by your mercy. Having much to answer for I know that the lord and savior carried me for a long time . I have survived death four times and walked away convinced each time I was saved for a reason !
The trials and tribulations we are all about to encounter is why I was saved . I have a task that I do not know of yet !
The lord my god is sitting this one out and is leaving it to his people to resolve .
I hope and pray I do not fail him !
Robert, you may wish to consider studying prophecy. An advisor once mentioned that prophets tend to have more than normal near death experiences. Start seeking. Maybe some pieces will fit?
Spirit and Truth. The Greatest Story Ever Told! What a great show! God Bless you all and have a great day!
As previously stated my experience with religion was negligible at best.
I didn’t even know what Lent was other than certain religious individuals cut out certain foods or maybe fasted.
Your posts and the the comments from others is most informative and is appreciated.
I am also enjoying testing my “ will power “ as I continue to avoid a particular item.
If not for your earliest post as pertaining to Lent I would not have done so.
Cheers!
Thanks, you’ve made my day!
Sorry the Chosen’s depiction of this encounter is not what I understand from the interaction Between Jesus and the Samaritan woman. I know, I know “artistic liberty” and all but there are words added to the actual story here in this episode, plus the woman seems snarky.
There’s literally a chapter’s worth of spoken interaction that could be – – and has been – – communicating what needs to be communicated without the heavy hand of man. Here’s another reason for that to be the focus:
Hebrews 4:12
“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
I can’t seem to stop weeping.
2 Cor. 1:3-7
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ.
“Now if we are afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effective for enduring the same sufferings which we also suffer. Or if we are comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. And our hope for you is steadfast, because we know that as you are partakers of the sufferings, so also you will partake of the consolation.”
Today is the Second Sunday of Great Lent, or the Fast, in the Orthodox Christian Church.
From the Synaxaria of the Triodion:
“On the same day, the Second Sunday of the Fast, we celebrate the memory of our Father among the Saints, Gregory Palamas, Archbishop of Thessalonica.” (+ 1359)
Saint Gregory Palamas pray for us!
Psalm 95:1-2, 6-9
R. If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
Come, let us sing joyfully to the Lord;
let us acclaim the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving;
let us joyfully sing psalms to him. R.
Come, let us bow down in worship;
let us kneel before the Lord who made us.
For he is our God,
and we are the people he shepherds, the flock he guides. R.
Oh, that today you would hear his voice:
“Harden not your hearts as at Meribah,
as in the day of Massah in the desert,
Where your fathers tested me;
they tested me though they had seen my works.” R.
All of us are unworthy of the perfection of God. This beautiful story shows that God uses even the most imperfect for His purposes in the world.
Dear God, use us in this small corner for your great and good plans for this world we live in. Direct our path for good. Amen.
The Water I give is a fountain of eternal life.
I am just now reading The Book of John, Smart Guide to the Bible, and just read this passage a few days ago. Better late than never.
Praise God! You are just in time. Stay the course.
Fantastic video Menagerie….Ty…

Powerful vid! TY!
I never heard of this series. This clip is really good! Thank you.
Saint Photine or Photina the Samaritan Woman, Equal-to-the-Apostles
The Orthodox Church faithfully has preserved and handed down her Life, as well as the names of her sisters and sons who endured martyrdom with her.
“The Explanation of the Holy Gospel according to the Holy Apostle John” by Blessed Theophylact has several pages devoted to the interpretation of these passages.
The number of pages are too long for me to post here, unfortunately.
St Photina the Samaritan Woman
Amen. Thank you for posting this, beautiful and powerful event.
