We want REPRESENTATIVE government, if McCarthy understands his best interests are served by pursueing the MAGA agenda, rather than the donor class agenda, and thats his motivation, rather than being ideologically MAGA, so be it. The result is the same.
As an example, Zalenski publically invited mcCarthy to Ukrainr, for a photo op, just like a long line if visitors; members of Congress, the administration and movie stars, etc.
McCarthy immediately took a pass. As Bannon said, if McCarthy had accepted the invitation, there would have been a motion to vacate before McCarthy reached the airport.
As I percieve it, “Representative government” actually depends on elected officials being “self-serving”.
Assuming they want to be re-elected, they conduct public policy in a way that a majority of their constituents want.
McCarthy was (perhaps) FORCED (by the actions of “the 20, and the 6”) to accept that his political fortunes, his “enlightened SELF INTERESTS” REQUIRE that he pursue the MAGA rather than the donor class agenda.
As with most all here, I DO NOT “Trust” him, at all.
However, I DO trust him to do what he percieves is in his own best interests, and so long as that is to persue the MAGA agenda, he WILL pursue it.

I was distressed this week to make contact with two people who are good citizens, one of them quite bright on whom such tactics have evidently worked.
I’ll give you a summary of the second. I had to call Comcast, my cable provider about my bill. I won’t give all the details but I was not dealing with lower level people. I was “up the chain” to at least a person who needed to be well-spoken, polite, professional and I finally reached such a person.
We were waiting for her computer to boot up what it was she needed so I purposely steered the conversation to specific increased fees (local sports, for one ) that I knew were not controlled by Comcast but by the government. That led to my commenting on the excessive growth of governmental control of everything and she agreed.
Her computer was still having trouble loading what she needed so I took things a step further saying, “Nothing will change until we get rid of this idiot in the WH and a bunch of others in his party.” She agreed but there was the slightest hesitation.
She sheepishly added, “But I don’t think it’s a matter of party.”
I agreed. “YES! It’s not. They’re both bad but the one in power now is…
She politely finished her thought from a few sentences before. “The only thing is, I’m worried about losing my Social Security. The Republicans are talking about that.”
I didn’t jump to defend the GOP but rather explained that the SS tactic always seems to work for the Democrats.
Here’s what I found out: She is 37, does own a home but won’t shortly because she’s in the process of getting a divorce and the house sale will be split. She explained that she’s half way to retirement and is afraid her SS won’t “be there for her.”
I won’t go into any more details as the convo ended not long after that with my trying to do my best to explain the TACTIC being used how SS certainly won’t “be there” for her or those y9unger than she if changes weren’t made and I tried to explain in short form what changes those had to be, but her computer came back on and we moved back to my bill.
I can just tell you: Yes, she was NOT educated on this subject in spite of her being intelligent. She’s typical of people who work all day, take care of their children, come home from work with chores to do, fall into bad, get up , and do it all over again the next day, with little time or energy to actually search for information that is balanced and accurate. I am sure, although we didn’t touch on her news sources, that she gets the news on a major network, one local affiliate of a major network and maybe on the hours news on her radio during her commute, usually the AP, no friend of the conservatives.
The tactic works. Dems use it again and again.
We don’t use it.
We don’t have an organized “fight back team” and we don’t really have a unified team.
I was able in a few short minutes to identify this voter’s WORRY, and I’d like to tell Donald Trump, “It’s THEIR personal worries you have to address, not your lost of the 2020 election through fraud, which is, of course, in the long term, the MOST important threat to the Republic, but when you’re house is on fire, you don’t care what the budget woes of the city are; you want firemen with water hoses at your house, immediately.
I asked why.

Cut to the chase; BOTH parties are talking about changes to SS/Medicare, because after neglecting to address the demographic challenge that was made obvious in the 1970’s, and which COULD have been addressed easily,..they now as the Uniparty are calling it a crises.
ONE Candidate, and ONLY one, running for POTUS will NOT campaign on making changes to SS/Medcare, and that is PDJT.
His approach is that by implementing “Economic Security is National Security” policies, the economy can be “strong” enough that these programs can be sustainable.
After all. Western Europe, the EU countries have had a “better” pension program and health safety netthan the U.S., for YEARS.
It was financed by underfunding NATO, and thru unfair trade practices allowing THEM to put large tarrifs on U.S. goods, with sma tariffs on their imports.
The EU has ripped us off for $500 BILLION/year, for20-30 years.
The same amount as China has ripped us off, thru unfair/illegal trade practices.
Address these issues, use America First policies to strengthen our economy, and we CAN afford to maintain SS and Medicare.
At least, thats his position as I understand it.
HE is the ONLY Candidate that is saying we don’t need to raise the retirement age, etc.
And he is the only one that can, because he is the only one that can make this argument; after his first term, its NOT “theoretical”.
This may well be one of the “cornerstones” of his 2024 campaign.
In his 2016 campaign, he took several policy positions no opponent would take, and thats why the “16 dwarves” strategy didn’t work.
He is, on a weekly basis, taking policy positions which no other candidate (from either wing if the uniparty) will take, and that will again insure they can’t defeat him except by cheating.
There are people like her and then there are those who purposefully do not want to hear what this administration is doing. They don’t watch the news and certainly do not watch Fox. To them ignorance is bliss.

In Dec 2022, we paid $1.56 per Therm of NG baseline usage, Non base $1.98.
In Jan 2023, we paid $2.22 per Therm of NG baseline usage, Non base $2.64.
In Feb 2023, we paid $4.12 per Therm of NG baseline usage, Non base $4.57.
MY Pacific Gas and Electric bill for ending for the month of Jan. ’23 was more than double the cost for the same month the previous year with very similar usage.

Today he should be revealing the budget dollars Joe cites by changing 401k tax contributions. However, other things are getting ink and video.
Biden has argued that anyone with such retirement funds should have them taxed each year the same way non-retirement holdings in stocks are taxed.
McCarthy needs to explain. “Hey, you work for a school district? You put money in a mutual fund in a 403b, untaxed, and you hope it grows over the years, right? By the time you retire, it has, and when you start to withdraw sums from it, sums you need to live on, THEN, that money is treated as part of your income and is taxed.”
“But now, Joe wants to treat your retirement accounts the way all others are treated. Whereas money from a 401K isn’t taxed until you are eligible to draw it out, any gains you have in your non-retirement holdings are taxed each year even if you haven’t withdrawn the money, even when you’ve never touched it. It’s a “paper gain” only, but you are taxed under the capital gains tax law.

How many people, even at age 80, trip and fall every day and do not end up in the hospital? And to fall and receive a head injury so severe that it caused a concussion requiring several days in the hospital would mean he went straight down without putting out his hands to break his fall (or he went over backwards). That is a sudden collapse, a cardiac event, or something far more serious than what we have been told thus far, IMHO!
Actually, I have read articles that say as we age in our senior years, without knowing it, most people do not lift their feet as much as they once did. That accounts, they say, for a huge % of falls among the elderly, even people in very good shape.
I have noticed that in my tennis shoes I sometime evidently kick up the edge of a few throw rugs in the kitchen. For the longest time I couldn’t understand why. I thought, “It’s gotta be the rug, but it was happening with another rug too.” To me, I walk the same as I always have, but evidently NOT.
Understood, and I do not disagree with you, especially as I find my body less able to do things that I once took for granted.
But, if someone is walking that slowly and carefully a simple fall should not cause injuries serious enough to require hospitalization for several days. And unless one is exceptionally feeble, the instinctive reaction would be to put your hands out and break the fall.
If McConnell is so old and infirm that he no longer has those reflexes, then he should not be one of the most powerful people in our government, making decisions that affect millions of lives and billions of dollars!
Had an uncle who fell at 86 and broke his shoulder. Within 6 months it had healed and he regained most of its use. I marveled, even at that age, what recuperative powers the Lord bestowed on us.

Normally, when some politician goes into the hospital, there will be reports that he’s “in good condition,” or “recovering nicely” or something like that. The absence of any reports like that here make me think this could be much more serious than was reported. If McConnell doesn’t come back, I wonder if more senators will join with the Rick Scott/Rand Paul/Ron Johnson wing. They won’t have to fear payback from McConnell. Thune is next in line, but who knows how much support he has behind the scenes and if he is in a position to retaliate effectively against dissenters like McConnell could (and did). That wing of the party isn’t fully MAGA by any means but it would be much better than what we have now. McConnell goes out of his way to insult the base and has steered Biden’s entire legislative agenda through the senate. The White House got everything it wanted from this Congress on the legislative front. Contrast that with President Trump’s first two years in office when the GOP controlled Congress.

This actually turned out pretty good in terms of strategy. McCarthy releases the tapes to Fox and the media howls that only Fox got the tapes. So he gives them the tapes THAT THEY DID NOT WANT. That’s actually pretty clever.
While I expect a lot of extreme pretending and selective editing, that extreme pretending and selective editing will be much harder to accomplish if everyone has the tapes. Every time they bring up that police officer who died, and they claim that protesters beat him to death, all we have to say is what the kids say these days:
“Pictures. Or it didn’t happen.”
And when they use selective editing to spin lies (see also: George Zimmerman 911 call and George Floyd full bodycam footage) we just show people the rest of the video.
Now send out every bit of testimony, unredacted, of the Ukraine impeachment hoax and every email and communication between the hoaxers and Democrats in Congress.

Whether he’s on our side or not, he was clearly jailed based on false accusations, has been slandered and libeled by media outlets, and one person on (I think) CNN called for him to be murdered/shot. “Shoot him!” Frankly, I would subpoena the person who said that, show him the newly released videos, and ask if he still thinks Mr. Chansley should be shot. Straight up, yes or no. It’s a two question subpoena. Put that a-hole on camera in Congress and make him eat his words. If he stands by them, that says a lot, too, then ask whether he thinks American citizens deserve due process, or if media personalities should be able to order their execution.
As I wrote yesterday, the Committee should be building out the model of how the government is weaponized against the public. What are the SPECIFIC things that these agencies do in order to falsify accusations, hide evidence, leak to the media to build their case, and secure plea deals that “validate” the false narrative they’re building? This is a textbook case that shows the precise steps that the DOJ and FBI use in collaboration with corrupt Federal Judges.
Then, the Committee can build out this step-by-step methodology used by the DOJ and FBI, and apply it to multiple situations including:

Mike FlynnJ6 protestersState Controlled Social MediaUSA GymnasticsHunter Biden Laptop CoverupMr. Chansley should be deposed by the committee to determine his mental fitness to appear, and then have a structured hearing to show what he ACTUALLY did on 1/6 vs. what the Weaponized Federal Government told us all that he did. From what we’ve seen, he did not actually violate ANY laws whatsoever. He was escorted around, did nothing violent, prayed for everyone, and was not compelled to leave the Capitol.
And Jordon should call the judge and the prosecuting attorney to Congress to explain themselves. When the DOJ lawyer says “ongoing investigation”, Jordan can point to the steps I wrote above. When the Judge says “but he pleaded guilty”, ditto. Then you don’t berate either the lawyer or the judge. You simply point at your model of how the government is weaponized and tell the public, here’s where the judge executed Step 9. Here’s where the attorney executed steps 3-4-5.
You see how this works?
Once you map out how the Federal Government is being weaponized, the steps they use, the tactics they use, you advance legislation intended to block it, and giving defendants additional rights to appeal and force disclosure of evidence. In fact, the legislation should require a phase be inserted into every plea deal: “This agreement is null and void if the Government withholds ANY evidence from the Defendant of ANY kind or importance. This nullification shall not be reviewable by the presiding judge.”

One of the big stories of today is the restoration of ties between Iran and Saudi Arabia, brokered by China.
It is an international political coup for China in establishing peace between these two rival countries. It will allow Iran more freedom to circumvent western sanctions to provide for their people. Saudi Arabia will most likely be able to end their war in Yemen. Some of the middle east will become more peaceful and stable as these two religious rivals end their animosity.
Israel and all anti-Iran hawks in the west will hate it. The Arab Emirates which have profited greatly from trade that circumvented Iran sanctions will possibly receive less profit. The US will be big mad because they were trying to get a deal with Iran and a deal with Saudi Arabia and this probably scuttles any US attempts in the near future.

My son and I were having lunch at a resort in the Adirondacks, several months after Obama’s big bank bailout, when we happened to overhear part of a conversation between the restaurant manager and the people at the table next to us.
It seems that the guy at the table next to us was a director of a large New York bank.
The discussion centered around a very large dinner cruise and party that the bank had paid for with some of the bailout money.
They seemed to be especially amused by the amount of the liquor tab for the party, apparently it was an open bar, which had cost thousands of dollars.
The bankers partied while the taxpayers took it on the chin.
During the banking crisis, I was told by two separate people from two local banks that the FDIC told them both to increase funds on deposit so they pumped their money in to the bank. When they did, they swooped in and shut it down.
I was in my local Bank of America this afternoon. I was waiting to get some cash for the weekend when I turned around and noticed a line of customers. The line was out the door! Everyone was getting cash! Couple at the window got thousands in cash! Man in front of me withdrew $5000! In seeing the news this afternoon, I now know why the line was so long. Run on the bank?!
We moved to a credit union but I’m not sure if it will prevent the contagion.

These raids remind me of a speech given by a Holocaust survivor. He has been featured here at CTH in recent years, but I don’t recall his name. The gist of his talk was that they waited and cowered when the secret police showed up and took people away. He said that if he had to do it over again, he would not cower. Rather, he would wait in the dark with his neighbors with knives and pitchforks. When the police showed up at night, it wouldn’t have been a passive reception.
Are we witnessing the start of the same phenomenon here?
