A few years ago, I got a small glance at the propoganda being fed to the ROTC program at an elite institution of higher education. For starters, Bush II unilaterally pulled out of the ABM treaty with Russia. No negotiations, just I am out. Putin contacted Bush and tried to figure out why and if he could get him to change his mind and stay in the treaty which Russia wanted badly.. Bush said no (obviously Cheney involved).
Inspections have been ongoing but now only the US has been doing inspections on Russia. Russians aren’t allowed to do inspections on the U.S. Russian inspectors have been barred from entering the U.S. Actually, all Russians are blocked entry at the U.S. border. So Putin said, why should we continue to adhere to the treaty, allow you to inspect us, and we can’t inspect you to verify your adherence to the treaty? So Putin pulled the cord as any smart leader would do.

All true, but we are their wealthiest and most capitalistic consumers as their main customers. To unwind that and rely on much poorer countries for their economic health is not going to happen very quickly, if at all. Killing their golden goose is pretty nonsensical, right now anyway. Eliminating all trade with millions of consumers is probably not a great strategy in the short term.

The prices of the products they make that contribute to GDP are lower than prices in the US. Prior to the sanctions of last year, Germany enjoyed massive prosperity due to cheap oil and gas from Russia. Prices are just lower.

Being CEO and Chairman does not give you control of the board. Only formal structural measures in the constitution of the board do that. It gets complicated, sometimes very complicated, when you take on a 501(c) position in that there are formal legal requirements for same. In some states a corporate board must have three directors, where in others the number is one. However, there are special issues with federal non-profits, and the IRS looks rather dimly on a board of less than three, because a non-profit may not inure primarily to the benefit of individuals. It is very complicated as a legal matter to prevent a hostile takeover and ejection of the founder from a 501c organization. Proper structure (and a lot of care) can make it more difficult — but it is rarely possible to entirely prevent it.
Thus the damned if you do side of federally-recognized non-profits — which really isn’t all that different from a for-profit if outside money in size is involved.
The bottom line is that in any entity you must never believe that the other people involved won’t screw you if they come up with some reason they think its a good idea — whether it objectively is or not, and irrespective of how well-intentioned they might be.
