Sharks have been found in fresh water. I once read of a horse being attacked by a bull shark while the owner was exercising it in water for some kind of therapy and worse people attacked inland not far from the ocean.

Sharks have been found very far up the Mississippi. Fun Fact. Sharks urinate through their skin. If the skin isn’t removed from a shark soon after being caught for consumption, they taste like urine. I have heard of people soaking shark meat in ice water for 12 hours to remove the taste.
One can even see seals in fresh water rivers ….. even quite far from an ocean access.
Yup, in addition to untreated sewage, think of everything people typically keep under kitchen and bathroom sinks; cleaning liquids, bleach, etc.

The size, shape and placement of buildings can block wind and also accelerate wind by 1.5X. Someone on the other side of a driveway can be in 20 mph wind because a building is blocking it and someone only 20 feet away can be in 100 mph winds. It’s called the venturi effect. Architects in Hong Kong utilize it to cool pedestrians at street levels and London architects use it in an opposite manner.

For buildings to create the Venturi effect … the buildings must be exceedingly large and there must be lots of em … in a very small space. The ONLY place those conditions may exist in Florida is on Miami Beach. So Naples may have experienced storm surge of roughly 13 feet or more, judging by comparison
St Pete tide gage also stopped transmitting after 4:36 pm, when its level was -4.6 feet BELOW mean sea level
It was in a blowout tide condition as easterly winds on the top side of the storm pushed ocean water out to sea

I was an airline pilot who had an FAA inspector on my jumpseat who knew the lead TWA investigator at Calverton, looking at the recovered wreckage. He confirmed in no uncertain terms that the investigative team identified the exact impact area of the 747 lower skin and the metal was bent inwards which resulted from hard contact by a missile.. This piece of wreckage was blown apart by the subsequent tank explosion. When they were examining the critical piece, it triggered the interest of the FBI investigators in the hangar, who were the only ones with keys to the hangar. The next morning, the critical tell-tale piece of wreckage was missing from the reconstruction. The only ones who could have taken it were the FBI agents with keys to the hangar. The FBI was desperate to save Clinton’s election chances. Sounds a lot like the Hunter Biden laptop coverup in 2020 doesn’t it?

After Harvey flooded Houston, I helped a friend demo his house interior, which took in four feet of flood water. Within a week of hot and humid weather after the storm, the soaked drywall and pink insulation in the walls were dark green and smelled like a dirty diaper. I lived through Harvey when it hit and massively flooded the city of Houston. People had no choice but to wade in the flood waters for days. Then the water became putrid and it stank like a sewer for months.
Most everyone, including myself, ended up with rashes and infections. I was literally spraying my entire body with antiseptic daily. Didn’t stop it all.

what if I told you that you have a 99 percent chance of living in a radioactive fallout condition…that you could even eat the food and drink the water. But what if I failed to mention that the 1 percent that do die or will have problems are children and the old> so models only get you so far. at some point you have to make a decision on what parts of the data to focus on and describe to people. It’s a huge responsibility that I cannot imagine anyone takes lightly.
If the models I am using are telling me (there are 29 internationally recognized unique models used to predict tropical cyclones), the upper bounds of storm surge is 18 feet …I’m going to punt every time…because it is a risk of loss of life issue. we can agree that 5 feet of storm surge can kill people…but how many people will voluntarily evacuate on a five foot storm surge. How many would take notice of 18 foot prediction and book it out of town fast?
there are other reasons too that you want to use upper bounds also. this relates to how you can manage and most effectively use first responder resources. One must be safe and conscious to the reality that first responders will have to do very dangerous work. that’s lives also.
I don’t generally advocate that “officials” deliberately lie and deceive people about risk and danger. But hurricanes are an entirely different beast. Alot like huge wild fires. very unpredicatble. You let your guard down and understate the risk and then you have people feeling safe “riding it out”.
As someone who has been directly involved in every single phase of disaster and crisis management..these are the kinds of decisions that are the most important. Don’t try to underestimate the foolishness of the common man. they will surprise you every single time. At the same time, you have to make sure your agenda and intentions are unimpeachable and that you are willing to take the criticism and even the harsh backlash from overselling a crisis or risk threat. that is kind of misleading….a “document” can consist of MULTIPLE pages and obviously, most of these do…….that they average nearly 20 pages per document seems a little on the high side but I have seen government forms you have to fill out that are 50 pages sometimes
