Employment numbers are easily manipulated (holdback, revised accounting, etc.) then the old U3 vs. U6 sleight of hand topped by jobs held for just days or weeks counted in their totals – then maybe reduced some time later. This side of the economic equation (like the delayed port #’s tricks in Dec/Jan SD mentions) are not so easily understood by most and many just want a piece of good news to cling to – they don’t want to question the basis too deeply.

Hiring and retaining anyone (never mind talent) has become very challenging and never ending. Once they are hired on they immediately call in sick or simply ghost the job the first sunny weekend. These same quitters then get another job which raises Biden’s Jobs numbers but the job they just left now requires refilling and that same person gets counted for filling multiple jobs.
Employers are paying incentives to fill jobs which get reported as jobs/hired (looks good) but they have to continuously refill these slots.
Existing employees have to continuously train the new hires (reducing their productivity in near perpetuity). Next is chronic absenteeism / call outs. Work is not getting done due to ongoing shift shortages despite active contingency planning and over scheduling. Shorthanded stores then have to factor in the constricted supply chain where replenishment is delayed in general then specifically on deliveries themselves. Transport costs out of sight.
Absent workers, goods shortages on top of high inventory of less desired items plus strained personnel struggling to operate stores and positively interface with customers – all increases operating costs to accomplish less work yielding lower profits and shareholder equity.
In short the JOBS and EMPLOYMENT mantra is pure BRANDON.
