I wish someone could post a link for what someone on a limited, very limited, budget should do as far as stocking up over the next month or two in order to get through this coming hurricane; mostly thinking of senior citizens on fixed incomes with just one or two in the home that are already having difficultly stretching what dollars they do have. Thanks in advance.
So far all the sites I’ve been able to find are for prepping for families, bulk buying (where seniors really don’t have the dough for bulk buying), anything common sense that I can give to my friends and their family so when family members do the shopping they can start picking up extras for their elderly loved ones.
What I do is purchase double of all staple goods and other items I use on a
continuous basis each time I go to the store. I have been doing this since
January.
I also purchased cases of soup, pasta sauce, canned vegetables from
either Walmart or Amazon depending on which one had it in stock or
with a better price.

Appalachia Homestead on YouTube has videos where she shows her hauls and she does like Amjean (getting extra each week with grocery store visits). She goes over prices of what she paid. Like one haul she had canned ham from Dollar General that beat Aldi, etc…
I think having extra pasta is good (high calories, last longer than date on box, and could be scare item with wheat shortages). Rice is also good – another high calorie item. A couple bags of beans that you like.
Canned veggies & meats.
Planting potatoes is also good. I planted for first time last year – so easy. Can be done in large pots/grow bags (just make sure don’t dry out). I planted in ground and I must have missed some dime size potatoes when harvesting b/c I have volunteers this year.—free potatoes. Also, I had some potatoes that were sprouting in my pantry. I planted those to see what I can get from them.
There are some veggies from the store that after you eat, you can grow for second harvest. Green onions (cut the tops off and use, and put the bottoms in a glass of water, will grow new tops). Buy a head of romaine lettuce, cut to eat, leaving 1” or so at the bottom. Plant that in ground or in shallow dish of water for a new head. Same thing for celery.
Multi-vitamin in case you can’t eat a balanced diet in future b/c of the crazy policies affecting food supply.

It’s been a few years since having a vegetable garden – the last one I think all the voles in the county found our yard, even our neighbor’s gardens got wiped out; so have been looking at getting some screening, digging out the dirt in the raised beds, lay the screen down and refill the soil – at least that’s what all the gardening books are recommending.
If that doesn’t work am counting on farmers markets for the fresh stuff for canning. I know a lot of senior citizens, not unlike the post someone re-posted the other day, whom, stubborn as us old folk can be, almost froze to death with no fire wood or enough canned soups and other foods to get through that harsh winter.
And being on a pretty tight budget already feeling the push between ‘buy gas for the car or meat for the freezer and put off getting the light bulbs for now’ debate going on in my mind, so was hoping for ideas like y’all posted, things I can add to my shopping and pop in to visit friends later on with little gifts such as extra canned goods for them; widows and widowers with no family nearby seem to be the last thing others in a panic buying spree think of, so am trying to do this within my own budget, not having really done prepping for ages so have gotten away from thinking along those lines.

The proposal is to reduce the training to 24 h which I think is reasonable.
Any teacher that decides to take on this responsibility should be compensated for their training time and have addt’l. liability insurances covered for them too.
Madison HS had a shooting in 2016 (no fatalities). The school district then allowed teachers to be armed with 24 hours of training. Lawsuits followed, and the Ohio Supreme Court ruled that teachers required what is effectively full police training.
This legislation overrides the Court decision.
What grounds did the court raise to legislate the number of hours required? Does the Ohio Constitution allow courts to legislate?
Correct in theory. Reality is they have been doing this, much the same as legislation farmed out to lobbyists and special interest groups. Our House hasn’t authored legislation for over 30 years. They can’t even read the bills they pass let alone write them.
That’s the equivalent of 91 days of training. Unless someone is on a Tier One Spec. Ops Team, you don’t need that much training on a weapon. I would say a 40 hr course that includes a 2 day classroom and 3 day range would suffice.
That is how we do it in the Navy. 3 days care and safety and 2 days fam-fire (familiarization firing). Then every six months we go to the firing range for quals and re-quals.
Doubt I got 728 hours arms training in 30 years in the Army.

Authorities first said Ramos entered the school through a door left ajar by Marin — but the Texas Department of Public Safety has since clarified that the gunman got in via an unlocked door.
Marin had dashed inside to report the crash, leaving the door propped open with a rock, Flanary said. She then returned while still on the line with cops and saw a co-worker running out to safety and others across the street at a funeral home while yelling, “He’s got a gun!”
Marin then kicked away the rock that was keeping the door open and slammed the door, Flanary said.
The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed investigators determined the teacher had closed the door, but it failed to lock, ABC News reported
Again, that’s still unclear to me whether he entered her door or not. They’re going as far as to say her door wasn’t “propped open” after all, and they say her door “failed to lock”, and they say shooter got in through “an unlocked door”, but they don’t clarify that the door the shooter entered was the one that had been propped open moments before or some other “unlocked door”.
If it was a different door, then it’s apparent doors were unlocked willy nilly at that school that day. Not good.

I seem to recall that it was eight AA folks and two whites. But now all the news is talking about ten blacks killed. Hah! Every ‘house’ Doc and I lived in was huge – much more space than 2 people needed – especially 2 that did not entertain or have relatives come and stay.
We got rid of lots of ‘stuff’ when we became full time RVers. I thought that space was small (40 foot). Then we ‘moved out of it’ to become landlubbers again. We had trouble finding someplace to put what came out of it. 🙂
The 2 bedroom apartment fit us OK. We used less than half the available room in the house we ‘housesat’. We pared down to go into a 1 bedroom seniors rental, then pared down more for this move.
The real adage is: stuff expands so as to fill the space available. We saw that over and over again with our various moves. You got rid of stuff that you hadn’t used in years – had space left over. By the next move there was more stuff to get rid of.
You buy it ’cause you want it or think you need it. Later you realize it is still sitting in your garage or attic or basement – unused!
Did I tell you there was a time (I think I was 50) when I had moved once for each year of my life. The longest was (and still is) the house we lived in when I was born. 5 years. I never figured out how to count the 15 yrs in the motor home because we ‘lived’ in something that did not stay in any one place for even a year at a time (tho we could have)
Be assured – when we moved into someplace we had every intention of staying there. When the thump came (sit up and pay attention) we figured we were due for another move.
I know – most people live in the same house or nearby where they were born. Some move a large or small distance from there and stay put in the new location.
We, on the other hand, got to sample lots of wonderful places.
There is no question that from my perch, what you’ve generously shared of your remarkable life tells me you’ve enjoyed varied and very rich experiences. I do know what you mean. As a stayer type myself, I ended up being monumentally thumped, which led to perhaps the happiest and most content I’m likely ever to have been. I never saw it coming. My best laid plans were upended in an unexpected way. Twice. I’ve come to think of it as His plans for me and not those I constructed for myself, so are you and I to argue?

I get links to their print via my email and when clicking on it the message is “www.theepochtimes.com redirected you too many times” (and yes, I cleared the cookies multiple times) and

There have been photos of Wagner Group soldiers in Mariupol, with the skull shoulder patch.
And, it’s unlikely that such torture videos would be publicly posted as war crimes evidence.
