Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

My Love from the Star – I Will Survive – Gloria Gaynor
“My Love from the Star” is a Korean drama about the frustrations of being a storm-tossed actress in love with a Superman-like alien who has to go back to his star or die.

Interesting, in River of Jordan, they refer to an old fashioned church and it is an older song, as in back in the day they had old fashioned churches. In my church hopping travels I visited a new one this evening, and it was a contemporary one, not a cross in sight except on the hand made poster board they had outside in the parking lot announcing there was a service tonight. It is the fourth or so modern church I have been in w/out an altar, w/out a cross, w/out flowers, faux or otherwise, no candles. They all tend to have stages. Nothing in the place had even a hue of being “religious”. No passing of the collection plate, they did have a basket by the door to make a donation. Myself and one other lady were the only two that put in some money. People that were following the Bible readings did so on their phones. They were friendly and welcoming, I have been in some churches w/out so much as a hello spoken.
As usual they did the song lyrics on the wall, and as usual technologic tools went haywire, so people mumbled through the song, which is always distracting to me. They had some talented musicians, nice voices etc. until the equipment blitzed. I have found you never have those problems on a real piano, or guitar. They don’t tend to fail. Of course they sang contemporary Christian music, the lyrics tend to remind me of man/woman love relationship, as oppose to man/God relationship, and I have no doubt I am the only person on the planet that thinks that because I am a quirky person that tends to see and think things that others do not.
The man, not even sure he is a bonafide minister did do a great sermon, or perhaps message is the proper term these days, I don’t know. Essentially it was you might be down, but you are not out, and God’s got your back. Had to be there, but it hit the nail on the head. He also spoke of what it is like when the gummint kills your priest because they don’t like the influence they have on people. He was speaking from first hand knowledge and experience. That was quite moving. Signs of times to come if we don’t get our act together.
Last night I went to a revival at a different church, different town, and the guy preaching was awful. The music was uplifting and sing along. The church had a cross hanging, fresh flowers, spring rejuvenating, the right accent and trimmings that made it feel like a church. They had those old fashioned books called hymnals, and if you needed or wanted one you had a Bible right there in front of you to follow along w/the preacher reading the scripture if you so desired.
Anyway, for me, I have to say there is something special and real about the old fashioned churches and I prefer them to the modern ones. Although the modern ones usually have more comfortable chairs. I would love to one day find a hybrid church that can blend both types and I could call it my church home, although I do really enjoy checking all the churches out. The only crossover I can find is that most churches these days are come as you are and dressing up in your Sunday best is not a criteria to attend.
Thanks for the tunage selection, I enjoyed them, sorry that one line got me off on a tangent.
I am pretty certain the ultimate “traditional” church had no choir or orchestra. They all sang together and they sang their hymns to God rather than for the enjoyment of the people listening.
Correct, VibeMan. As the Orthodox church still does to this day.
If you listen carefully to the words, most of the CCM is about what has God done for me rather than giving glory to Him.
Yes! When “they” started to change the churches up to bring in more people, and of course push the agenda I understood the need for new music to appeal to the younger generations. I won’t get started, but I agree w/your statement.
Is it acceptable to sing traditional hymns off the wall? It is not the wall that is the problem. It is the songs that we sing.
I don’t mind traditional hymns being song off the wall, if they would ever do them in the modern church. I get the various reasons for switching up and using the wall, my problem is it never, ever goes right. There is always a glitch, the person running the computer/slides never seems to be able to keep up. It annoys me to no end. The human and song selection is the problem.
In my eyes, “traditional” is more simple, stripped down Sunday service music. But to each their own, as God intended. Whatever moves your mind, body and spirit closer to the Word.
I had to spend some time in reflection to answer you. I’ve been trying to do my best to not consider the surroundings in which the modern church service is held or what the messenger is wearing as long as the service glorifies God and is Biblical truth. Very little of our current church is like when I was growing up but the message is always Biblical truth and that is my only criteria for attendance.
I prefer my hymns performed as they were written but some of the new arrangements aren’t to hard to follow. It’s tough to sing along when you remember the way it was taught to you and they sing something completely different. I miss the great pastors that I’ve had the privilege’s of listening to they’re sermons, all of which had a different style.
My daily Bible study for over 40 years is ttb.org Dr. J Vernon McGee and he died in 1987.
May the good Lord Bless and keep you always.
No worries. I was merely trying to share some of my experiences and how churches have changed over the years. One of the song selections you played mentions going to an old fashioned church, and that line hit me. I regularly attend different churches, one of them is so old it doesn’t have indoor plumbing. The one last night was a new one for me and very different from an “old fashioned church”. Many people I know have attended the same church all their life, it has its blessings and its curses.
I do not mind the hymns being changed up, played w/electric guitar etc. what I have a problem w/is Contemporary Christian music. The lyrics and the modalities that are chosen to sing them simply are not my cup of tea. I also had a problem being in place that claims to be Christian, yet there is not one single symbol of God in the place. Very odd to me.
One of my best church experiences was in the woods at a tiny outdoor ampitheater on the grounds of a monastery in PA. Only 4 of us were there, a Special Forces Soldier gave the sermon, one of the best I have ever heard, no music or singing at all. Birds were chirping, the woods had that mystic early morning feel w/the mist etc. We all were in jeans and sweatshirts. Church is where you make it and who you make it with in order to worship God.
The pastor I miss the most, is my dad. I had the blessing of being baptized by the late Rev. Billy Graham. I left the church for many, many years because I could not find one that was the one. I could write a book about it. Any idea what it is like to lose a loved one to suicide and the best the minister can do is send a two sentence email? I still have a hard time forgiving that one. My dad would never have done that, he would have been there, in person, consoling, and praying, doing whatever the family needed.
My favorite place I attend isn’t even a “church”, it is pure music and a 77 year old preacher preaching the gospel, when I leave I have a smile on my face, feel inspired and loved, and have an open heart. It took me almost 40 years to find that group of Believers.
Thank you for sharing those stories, leavemygunsalone.
I can’t stand the stuff, and people think I am weird for it. I used to go to a prayer meeting and the woman that conducts it insists on playing the junk, she plays it so loud I can’t hear myself think, much less pray. One song she loves she plays over and over, and I swear the grunts, oohs/aaaahs, and whatever else sounds the singer is doing sounds like a song about sex. One night I had to leave, it just wasn’t cutting it for the purpose I was there.
It is a very small group, the church is two doors down, and I really would like to participate but it is her way or the highway. I have gently hinted every which way if she could turn the volume down, or change up the music from time to time. She literally refuses to hear. Her response is always”oh, it helps me”. So I tried ear plugs. Finally I just gave up and quit going. I would go home frustrated, not rejuvenated. She is constantly wanting to know when I am coming back. W/out some sort of compromise I won’t go back.
Funny thing is the other day I saw the groundskeeper out doing some work and popped in to say hello to him. Out of no where, of course God speaking, he said to me “anytime you want in the church for prayer and you see me out here working let me know and I will let you in.” So I will take him up on the offer. I love that little church. Pre-Civil War, got abandoned by the Episcopal’s and sat empty for decades, and then a little group of people came it and have brought it back to life.
Yeah, this is Willie’s arrangement but, then, you can’t beat a Willie Nelson arrangement . . . Enjoy . . .
Good Sunday Morning Garrison ❤️
Starting my morning with Mary’s artwork, then your choreographed selections, is a dreamy way to inspire this cat today!
Love you, Garrison. Here’s to hoping your kites are dancing! 😘
Good morning Cat! ❤️
Good Morning grandpa ❤️
(Left a little hi yesterday under your post) 😘
I saw it last night and replied. 😘

Two extraordinarily talented young artists (Turner & Young)… always extra special when they record together…
I also really like their cover of Peggy Lee’s “Fever”….where Josh uses his electric…to great effect.
Have a blessed Sunday, Treepers. The one great truth thata faith teaches us is that Our Lord loves us and will look after us if we simply ask his forgiveness.
Good morning, Garrison.💓
Oh how I love Voces8. I discovered them about two years ago. What a find! All blessings to you and your bride on the Lord’s day.
Blessings on you too, Betsy. Have a great day. 🙂
Good blessed Sunday Morning, Garrison💓. A lovely way to start the day…
Good morning, Bet! May we all have a blessed Sunday today! 😍

Morning All!
And a very early morning it is. Trying to get my internal clock adjusted for the 23:00 departure later today.
Weather:
The European model was correct. Texas is going to be warmer than average while the north is colder than average. May is typically the height of the spring tornado season. And with Texas being warmer the clash continues between cold in the north and warm in the south and this coming week could be the most active tornado week of the year. The following week things should settle down but then week three the cold pushes down again and so the potential for severe weather increases again.
The first half of this month it will be much wetter than average in a band from east Texas up through Nebraska with Oklahoma seeing extremely wet conditions. This is the battle zone between cold and warm and will see heavy thunderstorms dumping lots of rain quickly and thus be on the lookout for flash flooding. Kills a number of people every year, especially down in Texas and Oklahoma when the sandy soil gets saturated. Many of those deaths occur when people are driving at night and suddenly there is a raging torrent running across the road. So be careful when driving in conditions of limited visibility down there.
This time the models show the cold coming from the Pacific NW and clashing with an arc of warm starting in Texas and running up to Minnesota. Warmest in Texas and Oklahoma.
Every time there are flash floods in Central Texas people will try to drive through the high water. Never figured out why.
AT THE LAMB’S HIGH FEAST WE SING
As they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks for it, and broke it. He gave to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.”
He took the cup, gave thanks, and gave to them, saying, “All of you drink it, for this is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for many for the remission of sins.
But I tell you that I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on, until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father’s Kingdom.”
— Matthew 26:26-39, WEB
Jesus therefore said to them, “Most certainly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you don’t have life in yourselves.
He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me, and I in him. As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father; so he who feeds on me, he will also live because of me.
This is the bread which came down out of heaven—not as our fathers ate the manna, and died. He who eats this bread will live forever.”
— John 6:53-58, WEB
According to Hymnary.org, this hymn has been published in 45 American hymnals by a variety of denominations and traditions since 1979. Prior to 1979, it was published in at least 140 in addition.
This hymn is from the fourth century Latin. The video features the most frequently-used tune for it, “Salzburg,” which was composed by the German, Jakob Hintze (1622-1702).
The hymn was translated to English by Robert Campbell (1814-1868), a Scottish Roman Catholic.
Our congregation will be singing this hymn this weekend, although with a different tune from the video.
Best to all of you, Treepers!
And a good blessed Sunday to you 1530!
Easter joy…Easter triumph 🥰
Hi FC! And to you too!
Good morning 1530, good to see you again, and have a blessed Lord’s day!
Thanks GrandpaM. A blessed Lord’s day to you too! Hope your week is the same.
The climate alarmists are back on the kick that fracking causes earthquakes. They just recycle the same arguments over and over even after real science debunks their claims.
Texas is where they’re aiming their bile this time. Nothing in the way of unusual seismic activity is occurring in the Lone Star State but that doesn’t seem to matter. Texas has had occasional quakes. Here is the history of actual quakes over 4.5 since 1923.
They had a bad one hit Wichita a couple days ago.
Oops! That was supposed to be on the weather post above and was a reference to a tornado.
I felt several earthquakes before I left Dallas a few years ago. 3.0+ on the Richter scale. I attributed it to the implosion of Texas Stadium in Irving on top of an ancient underground mountain range. One of the professors from SMU said much the same thing.
Approximately one each decade. Looks like a pretty consistent distribution.
Here is some more in depth info on earthquakes and disasters in Texas. War On Energy | Real Climate Science
Good morning from one night owl to another. The small branch where I sit is under a severe thunderstorm and very heavy rain until possibly 0500.
I usually stop by on my way to bed to listen to the music and take in the prayers. You all are blessings to me and I thank the Lord for you and include you in my prayers.
A happy and blessed first day of May.
Back at you. Amazing that it is already May.

April 30 2022 (Diana) “Naomi” Judd, American Grammy Award-winning country singer (The Judds – “Why Not Me”), dies at 76 of “mental illness”.
Missed this as from what I can tell only announced 9 hours ago.
The official Judds only posted this video 2 weeks ago.
🥰
One of the great duo’s in American music? I think so.
A rare combination for duos – great song writing, great stage presence, great harmonies. Not even the Everly Brothers approached that level. The EB didn’t write most of their hits.
Their performance at the CMTs last week was nostalgic, but Wynonna carried the entire performance. Sad looking back , knowing what we now know.
RIP Naomi.
Naomi loved singing with her daughter. You could always tell who the mama was.
Thanks, for posting her music last night and today in remembering her. She lost her brother, Brian, while she was in high school. Her mom, Polly died a few years ago. Always wondered if they were singing about Polly’s dad in the song, Grandpa?. She was the oldest of 4 children: Diana (Naomi), Brian, Mark (Southern Baptist preacher who officiated his mom’s funeral. Wonder if he will do the same for his sister?) and the youngest, Martha (who is good at the piano and a great singer)
Blessed assurance, Diana, in the arms of Jesus. 🕊💕

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow, that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ.
AMEN.

Faith— Not Emotion
We walk by faith, not by sight. —2 Corinthians 5:7
For a while, we are fully aware of God’s concern for us. But then, when God begins to use us in His work, we begin to take on a pitiful look and talk only of our trials and difficulties. And all the while God is trying to make us do our work as hidden people who are not in the spotlight. None of us would be hidden spiritually if we could help it. Can we do our work when it seems that God has sealed up heaven? Some of us always want to be brightly illuminated saints with golden halos and with the continual glow of inspiration, and to have other saints of God dealing with us all the time. A self-assured saint is of no value to God. He is abnormal, unfit for daily life, and completely unlike God. We are here, not as immature angels, but as men and women, to do the work of this world. And we are to do it with an infinitely greater power to withstand the struggle because we have been born from above.
If we continually try to bring back those exceptional moments of inspiration, it is a sign that it is not God we want. We are becoming obsessed with the moments when God did come and speak with us, and we are insisting that He do it again. But what God wants us to do is to “walk by faith.” How many of us have set ourselves aside as if to say, “I cannot do anything else until God appears to me”? He will never do it. We will have to get up on our own, without any inspiration and without any sudden touch from God. Then comes our surprise and we find ourselves exclaiming, “Why, He was there all the time, and I never knew it!” Never live for those exceptional moments— they are surprises. God will give us His touches of inspiration only when He sees that we are not in danger of being led away by them. We must never consider our moments of inspiration as the standard way of life— our work is our standard.
WISDOM FROM OSWALD CHAMBERS
The great word of Jesus to His disciples is Abandon. When God has brought us into the relationship of disciples, we have to venture on His word; trust entirely to Him and watch that when He brings us to the venture, we take it.
If it is any consolation, he has been trying to do that through all of time. Even succeeds now and then.
Can you imagine how Moses felt when he found his people worshipping golden idols while he was talking to God?
Corrupt Popes, Corrupt TV Evangelists, Entire Churches Abandoning God for the World, it is all very sad. And something each of us has to protect themselves from. God’s plan though never falters. It moves forward with or without us.
Ballad of John Henry, Battle of Sinners and Saints
Dear Father, I seek Your protection from the wickedness of the evil one. You are the Almighty God, and his power doesn’t stand a chance to the might You yield. I come to Your refuge with joy for You shelter me against the attack of the devil. Protect me, O Lord, from the craftiness of the enemy, and save me from his evil plots. Cover me with Your presence when I feel weak so that he will flee from my presence. Amen.
Amen.
Amen!
Mornin’ comrade infidels.
We need to research and make public all we can find about her. “Nina Jankowicz named executive director. She was previously a fellow at the Wilson Center, advised the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry as part of the Fulbright Public Policy Fellowship, oversaw Russia and Belarus programs at the National Democratic Institute, and wrote the book How to Lose the Information War: Russia, Fake News, and the Future of Conflict.”
It is not a coincidence that Nina is linked with information warfare and Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry. It should be readily apparent by now that the DNC and Uniparty are deeply linked with Ukraine.
GGGG…: She’s a psyop, nothing more.
George Eliason is an American investigative journalist. He has been in Ukraine, has good sources, and his reporting is clear and truly compelling.
Here is his most recent post on Substack~and it’s about The Ministry of Truth and N. Jank.:

Kinda says it all!
Would that Orwell’s words had never come to fruition, The Ministry of Truth has three slogans: “War is Peace,” “Freedom is Slavery,” and “Ignorance is Strength.”
We are here: “Now I will tell you the answer to my question. It is this. The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power, pure power. What pure power means you will understand presently. We are different from the oligarchies of the past in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended, perhaps they even believed, that they had seized power unwillingly and for a limited time, and that just around the corner there lay a paradise where human beings would be free and equal. We are not like that. We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power. Now you begin to understand me.” ― George Orwell, 1984

Geisha the Cocker is now middle aged or a little better and we are looking at getting another pup. Sherry has finally consented and said I can have a Bull Dog. But looking at them, there is no way I’m paying the $5,000+ reputable breeders are asking and I refuse to get one from a puppy mill. So now I am looking at some local smaller breeders to see what they are asking.
Anyway it goes, we’re getting another pup but at this time it looks like what ever it is, it will not be an English Bull Dog.
Think about walking through your local shelters. You won’t reget it. – dogmama53
Yea, that is where we got Gabby the cat.
Rah , check if there’s a bulldog rescue group in your area, too.

Thanks,
They sure are cute puppies aren’t they!
Despite doing so much for us, science is rife with assumptions, constrained and compliant to world views, and full of facts that don’t fit the current picture.
That is true even for hard science like physics. Try explaining the universe without the assumption that the laws are the same everywhere and everywhen. Imagine all the changes if type 1a supernovae weren’t all the same intensity and couldn’t be used to establish a precise distance, would anyone support the idea of dark energy?
But it gets even worse the softer the science gets. How can you know the past if the record isn’t recorded, can’t be translated, or was destroyed. (And can you trust the recorded record?). What to do when the archeologic or geologic record is so fragmentary and incomplete?
Or worse, how do you demonstrate the evolution of life through periods when cells and DNA don’t survive?
The answer is they tell stories. The stories have to fit what is known, as well as the current assumptions and worldview. But these stories are always changing. Proving the old stories wrong by finding a new fact that doesn’t fit, crafting a new story that does fit, then arguing out the old and the new and shaping a different understanding for common acceptance is a big part of the scientific debate.
And the winner of that debate is not always right. In the 1920’s some guy, using lots of evidence, claimed the old and new worlds had been joined together. Lost the argument and was dismissed as a crack pot. In the cold war, the government mapped the sea floor, demonstrating that the Atlantic had been growing. That kook’s idea was right. But they still dismissed him and the evidence because he didn’t provide a mechanism that could make this incredible thing happen.
That IS science. Ugly. Messy. Warty. Ever changing. But hopefully improving our understanding and our lives. A general good, but not something to ‘believe’ in. And nobody should be trusted just because they are scientists.
This applies to all science. And I hope you can use it well to protect you from Science Fraud like AGW and everything to do with COVID.
But I want to focus in on a few New World discrepancies.
Europe brought chickens, horses, pigs, and cattle to the New World. But did you know that the Spanish wrote about chickens already being in Peru. Despite that written evidence, science still treated that as a fable, or that maybe chickens somehow got there from the first chickens brought over but before the Spanish got there.
Well, now science is finally proving that written record correct and the current story is that Polynesians were the first to bring chickens. And they are doing their best to demonstrate which chickens came from which source.

There was also an interesting story about a piece of an iron axe dug up from a Huron village. The very existence of that axe turned a lot of assumptions on their heads.
How did Huron-Wendat get “cursed” European axe a century before European contact? | The Star
The axe was pre-contact, but post Columbus. A makers mark enabled tracing the axe to the Basque who made settlements to fish off Newfoundland and did some trading and left lots of stuff behind.
It had to be traded down the St. Lawrence river. Establishing that trade did happen between nations that had always been thought to be deadly warring enemies. Eventually the Huron buried it in a manner that suggests they were protecting themselves from spirits they didn’t understand.
But that wasn’t the first known contact with iron wielding Europeans. What happened to Viking iron in the New World?
And Vikings were subject to smallpox long before these contacts.
Ancient DNA suggests Vikings may have been plagued by smallpox | Science News
It was also known to be in the Philippines by the 4th century. We did record ourselves unwittingly spreading it through Polynesia. And it seemed the Polynesians had no natural defenses.
But those things do make me wonder how all this contact happened yet no spread of the disease until Europeans.
That “Kook” was Alfred Wegner. He was a Meteorologist by training that spent a lot of time in the Arctic studying the weather there before he turned his attention to “Continental Drift” once he discovered that rocks and fossils along the east coast of S. America matched up well with those along the west coast of Africa.
He is much like a Galileo of more modern times. Those two, and several others, like Kepler, are prime examples of how “scientific consensus” is often in conflict with the scientific method.
One of the earliest fathers of the scientific method was ibn al-Haytham. He is the one that first developed the method of experimentation. This is a passage he wrote that has stuck with me. He wrote:
“The seeker after truth is not one who studies the writings of the ancients and, following his natural disposition, puts his trust in them, but rather the one who suspects his faith in them and questions what he gathers from them, the one who submits to argument and demonstration and not the sayings of human beings whose nature is fraught with all kinds of imperfection and deficiency. Thus the duty of the man who investigates the writings of scientists, if learning the truth is his goal, is to make himself an enemy of all that he reads, and, applying his mind to the core and margins of its content, attack it from every side. he should also suspect himself as he performs his critical examination of it, so that he may avoid falling into either prejudice or leniency.”
I guess all those economists should have been consulting with this truck driver and a whole bunch of other common folks. They are always surprised by economic downturns. So I wonder what good are economists? I took two 200 level courses in economics while attending IU back in the 70’s. One in micro and one in macro and virtually nothing I learned in them has been needed to see that the economy has been slowing.

Dear Betsy,
Was just reading an article that mentioned Tom Jones (hadn’t thought of him in YEARS) and that he was Welsh. I didn’t know that. Furthermore, he is still around! Who knew?
