Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

The Donkey
When fishes flew and forests walked
And figs grew upon thorn,
Some moment when the moon was blood
Then surely I was born.
With monstrous head and sickening cry
And ears like errant wings,
The devil’s walking parody
On all four-footed things.
The tattered outlaw of the earth,
Of ancient crooked will;
Starve, scourge, deride me: I am dumb,
I keep my secret still.
Fools! For I also had my hour;
One far fierce hour and sweet:
There was a shout about my ears.
And palms before my feet.
~~GK Chesterton.
I love this sweet poem. When the least of God’s creatures was given the honour of carrying Jesus Christ through the city, we know all are special in His sight, each and ever one.
May His blessings be with every resident within these branches.🙏💓
🥰
Good morning, Cat💓 I’ve addressed your snow issue below😊

God Bless America , 🙂
Am loving the bluegrass sound! 😊
Me too! 😉
Thanks for posting this. It is so evocative of my Appalachian roots. I was one generation removed from “brush-arbor revials” and bootleg out in the wagon-yard. But the culture was so rich within me, it never really left evan as I became increasingly more urban and cosmopolitan. At heart, I’m still a red-neck. 🙂
Really liked the variety of the 2nd video. Since I was very young bluegrass has been one of my favorite style of music and the Gospel songs tug at me like no other.
My roots are from the farm , hills and swamps of this great nation so guess I’m a red-neck also.
Yep. 🙂
Redneck? Salt of the earth😊
“Redneck”. One word, brother Garrison. Still have my original edition The Foxfire Book from 1972. What a time in our national history. Pure and healthy.
I have 2 full sets.
We have thousands of great legacy fruits of the Appalachian peoples’ labor and ingenuity. I little research will delight anyone on the subject.
Salutations, My Appalachian American Brother.
Good morning, jay💓 Now these are really wonderful! I can’t imagine making my fingers move as quickly as theirs.
Guten Morgen Betsy, may your day be Blessed. 🙂
Thank you, dear sir. You’ve given me a big ole smile🤗
Thanks, Beautiful!
With Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter coming up this week, here’s a very special version of “I Know You’re Out There Somewhere” by the Moody Blues. Imagine the words as a quest of searching for Jesus, as a coming back to Him, as returning to the One you love. As for the nature scenes, think of them as Jesus showing His love for you through His creation … some of the imagery might surprise you!
Some powerful lyrics:
“The words that I remember From my childhood still are true
That there’s none so blind As those who will not see
And to those who lack the courage And say it’s dangerous to try
Well they just don’t know That love eternal will not be denied …”
And here’s a nature scene of my own to contribute to the overall theme, “Moody Blues Twilight” — A sunset looking East outside my window in Northeast Ohio. Photo taken by me during the Trump Rally several hours ago in Selma, North Carolina.
Good Morning hayseed! Thanks for a new one! ❤️
LOVE the Moody Blues! 🙂
Good Morning Phoenix ❤️
Thank you for this most joyful interpretation of the lyrics….and the photos 🥰 can’t help but feel his love through the world’s landscape ❤️. Your photo was shot easterly at sunset? Very beautiful 😻
Have a blessed day Phoenix 😘 ❤️
I see 💚 what you did there, 💙 Feral Cat!
Something else I noticed … whoever put together this version of the lyrics video edited out the phrase containing the word “darkness” so you wouldn’t see that word flash upon the screen. Appropriate when you consider “In Him there is no darkness …”
And yes, Easterly … towards Easter! (I like that … thanks!)
Wishing you a blessed and happy Palm Sunday! 😀
What an appropriate picture, phoenix. A foreshadowing of a new day and promise to all of us through His grace. An old day dying and a new one to come.
The lyrics reflect what has been happening for me. Out of nowhere I am remembering the weekly services I attended when I was growing up. They come to me especially when I am going through my day performing the most mundane tasks, very suddenly. I can’t tell you how much peace there is in recalling them. 🙏
Thank you Betsy jones,
You’ve hit on one of the main reasons why weekly services are so important. They are a house built on rock that stands the rest of the week through the years when life throws its storms at us.
Wishing you a wonderful and relaxing Palm Sunday! 😀
Oh how I agree! You can’t imagine how much, phoenix. A place of refuge, firm and unyielding. Thank you for your good wishes💓.
I find it wonderful how we each see different things in songs. How we bring part of ourselves to the beauty we behold.
Funny thing is the songwriter didn’t feel the same beauty. He had written a song, “Your Wildest Dreams” about regrets and longings for your first love. Its popularity surprised him. And this song was a follow up. Read about it here: I Know You’re Out There Somewhere by The Moody Blues – Songfacts
His current advice is don’t.
Frankly, he is just as responsible for this misinterpretation as he is for driving people to ruin their current lives to be utterly disappointed when returning to their past dreams. He did use sacred words and imagery to stoke secular longings.
My advice for your beautiful take on sacred words, imagery and longings is do follow them.
Very cool how God can use even worldly rock and roll lyrics to reach people. I’d heard “In Your Wildest Dreams” in the past and really liked it, but on a superficial level.
Normally in the past, I’d only heard a short version of “I Know You’re Out There Somewhere” … But one night in particular, when I was looking for a friend and asking Jesus to send me one, I went out to the car at night, turned on the radio, and came in on the middle part of the song playing “I know you’re out there somewhere … I know I’ll find you somehow … ” and then the portion of the lyrics I already posted above …
… So it seemed that time when I heard the song, that it was also JESUS who was looking for ME … saying that if only I would see, HE was the friend I was looking for!
(And now you know the rest of the story!)
Thank you for your kind encouragement and background information for a deeper look, Jim in TN!
Wishing you a Happy Palm Sunday! 😀
No coincidences, phoenix. Just prayers answered, as I’ve come to recognize. Yours is a very good example of that. Deo gratias🙏
Your last Neil Young song “Heart of Gold” always reminds me of the “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” … 😎
🙂
Good morning, Garrison💓 Every time I hear Neil Young…or Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young…I’m right back at UT in Austin. So long ago, but the memories come flooding back. Blessings to you😊
Hi, Betsy! UT and Austin were magical places then. I thought both were the coolest places on earth. Remember the vulcan Gas Company (and Shiva’s Headband that used to play there?) on Congress? It was a deep hippie place that set the stage for the Armadillo a few years further on.
Oh I do! And hippie indeed! Those were the days, during and near the end of the Vietnam War. And I in my naivete and small town girl innocence was not paying attention to what was going on. I used to cross the Drag to get to classes, and the hippies were all lined up that street. One could year the music and often get a whiff of that certain something.
But you are right. The last magical place before all changed and not for the better. Carefree and insulated from the real world, as I’ll always think of it.🤗
Sure has been a lot of Neil Young on these pages after he threw his tantrum on Spotify over Joe Rogan. And many of his tantrum copycats.
Why is it so many popular artists are dirt bag losers, in it for the money, drugs and/or sex, and callous manipulation of their fans?
Great music came out of the 70’s but the people wrote the songs and played the music were often less than great. I put the Harvest Moon video up because it’s so evocative of the times. I can like Young’s music but don’t much like Young himself.
Yeah. And he wasn’t the only less than great to produce great music. Might have to ban most music if we kept it to great people. Purging my collection would be painful. But there are still quite a few jerks whose behaviors turn me off to their music.
And as far as the Rogan stuff goes, it feels like Young is being pushed. Especially Amazon. Play Neil Diamond, ‘based on that we recommend Neil Young.’. Listen to The Pretty Reckless and Black Widow, ‘we think you’d like Neil Young.’. Huh???? I wonder what their recommendation will be after I listen to Five Finger Death Punch and Volbeat? Classical guitar? AC/DC? Bread? Is there anything I can listen to that will avoid these Neil Young recommendations?
Great cover! Love Josh Turner.
Have a blessed Sunday, Treepers. Always know that our Lord loves us and wants to look after us.
This week has been troublesome for me. I’ve suffered from depression which has left left me feeling hopless and overwhelmed. One of the realities about depression is that it is not your fault. Just knowing this is an essential element in coming out of a period of depression.
Clinical depression is caused by stress, and by a chemical imbalance in the brain. Knowing this provides a path to not being depressed. Essentially, just knowing the name for the problem is liberating. That happened to me today. When I begain my morning—I wasn’t depressed. They grayness had disappeared. If you have a name for the problem, it really helps to stop being depressed. Honest.
Hope you keep feeling better.
Good Morning Garrison! So much truth in what you have written here. Personally, I’ve come to the conclusion, that when these feelings overwhelm me and start to sink my spirit, it’s at that time the Good Lord uses that experience to bring me closer and teach me something new. Without sadness, I wouldn’t recognize joy ❤️
I’ve discovered if I count my blessings daily and include all the branches here, it leaves me in a better mindset to face what I must when I was depressed and distraught over that something. Now, I have a new bullet to add to battling the negative and I have you to thank for it. ❤️
Prayer always helps to find the path out of depression. 🙂
Oh how I understand what you’re describing, Garrison. And I believe you are right. Being able to recognize what you’re enduring and why is a big step to waiting it out so to speak. Those feelings come to all of us. But you have so much going on and are at an age when anybody would find it difficult at times to keep soldiering on…even though we all know that you do so because of the incredible love you have for your wife.
The saving grace for you is your passion for all sorts of music. It is for me as well. Voices such as you’ve left for us here can be transformative. I discovered Voces8 last year. They were a revelation for me, pure and perfect voices that go a long way to changing a low mood into something so much better. There is a God given joy in hearing them.
You and your beloved wife are in my thoughts so much daily. I do pray that you know we all treasure you and the gifts you keep giving us, without which we’d all start our days a little less joyfully, my friend.💓
Thank you for your kind thoughts, Betsy. Most depressions are episodic “mood disorders” which are generally not long lasting. More serious depressions can result from “major depressive events” like divorce, injury, or other kinds of major emotional losses. Long term depressions are seriously debilitating and often cause affected individuals to blame themselves for what is actually a chemical imbalance due to stress. A psychiatrist friend once explained how effective modern meds are at treating long term depression. But if people blame themselves for being depressed they won’t seek medical help..
I know that chemical imbalances happen. I wonder about this though…and you may find it as interesting as I did. I’ve written about this before so I’ll shorten it.
There was an entertaining programme in the UK…Two Fat Ladies, as it was called. These ladies d’un certain age and terribly posh, rode on a motorcycle and sidecar to various historical venues to whip up culinary delights for various groups. Boy Scouts, nuns….the variety of people who were lucky enough to taste their fare was amazing.
Anyway, one of the two ladies said that the fetish to eliminate fats from every bit of food we put in our mouths had led to serotonin levels dropping precipitously, and this (in Britain at least), was the reason why as never before so many people been put on meds for depression. She explained the mechanics of this. And it was an eye opener for me. And it made perfect sense.
I’m certainly not suggesting adding essential fats into our diets is a cure all for everyone. But I do wonder in their preoccupation with cholesterol levels, doctors have introduced the law of unintended (??) consequences. Fat-free makes no sense to me now. Just a musing of mine, which I tend to do a lot of.
In any event, I understand how debilitating depression can be, because my younger daughter suffered with it and for many years was on antidepressants. Some helped, some made it worse. I don’t know if she still takes anything. She’s not at all forthcoming about that. But if she is, they are really helping, and I’m grateful she sought assistance for that most terrible thing.
Churchill’s depression was lifelong. His “Black Dog” as he named it. No meds available back then. I am all sympathy for those who need help but who, for whatever reason, don’t seek it. Especially when help from a qualified and compassionate physician might change their lives.
Father I pray peace upon Garrison Hall , may your Holy Spirit bring him and all Treepers the comfort of your Love , In Jesus Holy Name , Amen
🙂

ALL GLORY, LAUD, AND HONOR
On the next day a great multitude had come to the feast. When they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, they took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet him, and cried out, “Hosanna!Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, the King of Israel!”
Jesus, having found a young donkey, sat on it. As it is written, “Don’t be afraid, daughter of Zion. Behold, your King comes, sitting on a donkey’s colt.” His disciples didn’t understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about him, and that they had done these things to him.
The multitude therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead was testifying about it. For this cause also the multitude went and met him, because they heard that he had done this sign. The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, “See how you accomplish nothing. Behold, the world has gone after him.”
— John 12:12-19, WEB
Today is Palm Sunday, the celebration of Jesus Christ’s entry into Jerusalem and the beginning of Holy Week. This hymn is traditional for this celebration.
Best to you all, Treepers.

I used to work a very late shift and would get home well into the night after my wife had gone to bed. I would not turn on any lights as I knew my path through the house. One day while I was at work, my wife decided to rearrange the furniture. In may path was a big oak porch rocker like you see at Cracker Barrel. It tackled me on the way through the house and the rocker and I tumbled across the hardwood floors banging into stuff as we did. I ended up on the floor in the still dark house with the rocker on top of me and me wondering what had happened and how bad I might be hurt. Nothing was broken, but it was the last time I tried to go through the house without a light.
I did that the other day, VM. But it was daylight, so no excuses for me. In the dark it is so much worse, and falling in the dark when you know you’re going and can do nothing to stop it? Ouch!!! Bless your heart (and I mean that in a truly caring way and not in the snarky Southern one😉💓)
Thanks for a reminder of that old ‘Southern’ joke Betsy, its one my mother could tell perfectly. 🙂
Good afternoon, P💓
I can’t say or write that anymore without a qualifier. Its a gentlewoman’s way of implying something she’d never say in public. Heaven forfend!! I’m glad it caused a nice memory for you🤗

Complete and Effective Decision About Sin
…our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. —Romans 6:6
Co-Crucifixion. Have you made the following decision about sin—that it must be completely killed in you? It takes a long time to come to the point of making this complete and effective decision about sin. It is, however, the greatest moment in your life once you decide that sin must die in you– not simply be restrained, suppressed, or counteracted, but crucified— just as Jesus Christ died for the sin of the world. No one can bring anyone else to this decision. We may be mentally and spiritually convinced, but what we need to do is actually make the decision that Paul urged us to do in this passage.
Pull yourself up, take some time alone with God, and make this important decision, saying, “Lord, identify me with Your death until I know that sin is dead in me.” Make the moral decision that sin in you must be put to death.
This was not some divine future expectation on the part of Paul, but was a very radical and definite experience in his life. Are you prepared to let the Spirit of God search you until you know what the level and nature of sin is in your life— to see the very things that struggle against God’s Spirit in you? If so, will you then agree with God’s verdict on the nature of sin— that it should be identified with the death of Jesus? You cannot “reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin” (Romans 6:11) unless you have radically dealt with the issue of your will before God.
Have you entered into the glorious privilege of being crucified with Christ, until all that remains in your flesh and blood is His life? “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me…” (Galatians 2:20).
WISDOM FROM OSWALD CHAMBERS
When a man’s heart is right with God the mysterious utterances of the Bible are spirit and life to him. Spiritual truth is discernible only to a pure heart, not to a keen intellect. It is not a question of profundity of intellect, but of purity of heart.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow, that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ.
AMEN.

Joe Bastardi at Weatherbell has his Hurricane impact scale out. In that impact scale they are trying to forecast where the hurricanes will be hitting. Weatherbell is the only organization that does this.
He points out that the last several years the most remarkable thing about the hurricane seasons has been the lack of hurricanes hitting US shores.
Bottom line for this year? Look out all the states that border the Gulf of Mexico! Impact scale for the Gulf is a 7 and that is twice the average for that area. All other parts of the US coast the impact scale are average.
Brrrrr…Wake up Betsy….you left the fan on and it’s so cold, it’s blowing snow on me 😂 if this keeps up this morning, I’ll be tempted to make a ⛄️ 😂 😂 😂
Good Morning, I left a cup of coffee for you. 😉
32 deg. F here (that would be 0 C for Mungrel) at my central Indiana home when I woke up this morning. I warned you guys about this coming last week. But that sure doesn’t make it any better now, does it!
😂 I listened to you Rah! Didn’t plant yet! Where I live, they say, every month of the year, it’s possible snow will fall. 😜 and thanks for the gulf prediction, I’ll pass it on. 😘
Up here in Indiana they say don’t plant before Mothers day. Probably ok to do Tubers and all that underground stuff now after this passes. Potatoes, carrots, turnips, that kind of stuff.
Tubers grow and survive frosts better than other crops. In fact the potato first became a staple of the Europeans during the Little Ice Age when the grain crops often failed due to frosts and violent weather. In fact if Eric the Red and his boys in Greenland had them, they might have held out longer there.
Here in Southern Kentucky, it is Derby Day. In the messed up year of Covid, my garden was hit by the frost as the Derby was not until September 5.
Kentucky Derby?? Why did I think that was always in May? And on a Saturday??
My beautiful garden in Texas was destroyed by the freeze of last year, even those plants that were supposed to withstand the temps we experienced. I could weep every time I go outside and remember what it looked like.
I was always in May, 1st Saturday in May to be precise. 2020 it was September 5th because it was delayed by Covid fear.
I remember Covid pushed it back. But in April?? What’s up with that??
In Britain?
“Ne’er cast a clout till May is out. ”
Good advice, which I ignored once and once only. On May 30 one year, the sun was shining, it was beautifully warm, the new lambs were bleating in the fields, watched over by their mothers…and I decided that piece of advice didn’t apply to me. So I planted all my lovely impatiens, stood back, and admired my (and God’s) handiwork.
On June 1 came Nature’s harsh lesson. Overnight snow so heavy that our farmer neighbour’s JCB couldn’t budge a flake of it in our lane. We woke up to the sound of his engine really working, and not in a good way. He gave up. The snow was piled half way up to the top of our 6′ hedge rows. I’ll never forget it.
So, in short, when Mother Nature speaks, I listen.
We must be close. I’m a little north of central and we were 30 when I put logs into the wood stove.
Betsy, turn it the other way!!! It’s coming down faster 😂
Already done! It might take a while.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cat!! We’ve got and have had the most fierce winds day in and day out for over a month. Very unusual for continuous winds in our neck of the woods. Must be solar activity (storms). Quiet in the night but as soon as Mr Sun peeps on the horizon…here comes the wind, blowing pollen everywhere.
Yesterday when I came out of the grocery store, my red car looked as if murder had been done upon it with all the yellow pollen crawling down from the roof, down the windows (as you’d see in a murder mystery) in rivulets. I truly don’t remember an April like this.
I’m up!! I’M UP!!!! It’s off now. Snow?!?! Tell it to go away, Cat. Enough is enough. Oh, and thank s for that cup of coffee. Much needed this morning. Blessings to you, girl😘🙏
Morning, Treepers. Hope all of y’all are well.
Good morning, CR🤗!! It’s so lovely to see you💓. Here’s really hoping your day is full of everything wonderful😘
Betsy, have you been to Merthyr Tydfil, Wales? One of my relatives was born there in 1740. He moved to America and lived for a while in Northern Pennsylvania when it was part of Connecticut. merrie
Good afternoon, merrie💓 We have not, but we have been through it on our way to look at area rugs (so my husband keeps telling me, though I swear the only one we ever went to was a place in N Wales…Frith, it is called…look it up if you have time…AMAZING!!! We had to be buzzed in to the showroom).
I know Pennsylvania and Ohio have deep pockets of Welsh influence where people settled. It was only when I looked at a map of Pennsylvania that the Welsh names jumped out at me. Bryn Mawr College, for example. Patagonia in South America was also a place where the Welsh migrated.
How interesting it is to be able to look through our ancestors and learn where they came from. Yours came from a very beautiful area, but then to me Wales is just gorgeous throughout.🤗B
I’m sorry! I just could not help myself!
I have had a craving for a Braunschweiger sandwich for some time now. So Friday I picked up some at the store.
So breakfast this morning was Braunschweiger, mustard, and lettuce on white bread. The Breakfast of Champions!
I think I’ll have some fried bologna with my scrambled eggs.
Fried bologna with scrambled eggs is also an egg-scellent choice! 😀
Funny you mention Braunschweiger, rah!
With my severe food allergies, I’ve been eating a highly restricted diet and it was only this week that I experimented and added Braunschweiger back in and tried eating it this week … Fortunately, it seems fine, which is wonderful news! Love the taste and it’s super high in vitamin B12.
Sadly, I have to eat it without bread (Unless I drive to one restaurant over a half hour away to buy a special whole wheat bread that’s not baked with soybean oil in the dough and contains only natural, non-GMO, organic ingredients …)
So I would gladly join you in a breakfast of Braunschweiger, mustard, and lettuce … hold the bread! (Haven’t been to First Watch in awhile and am all out of bread.)
Wishing you a Happy Palm Sunday! 😀
Back at you.
we are having fried scrapple
Srapple! That’s and east coast thing.
true. our roots are in western pennsylvania. only came to oregon 50 years ago. still have cast iron lard rendering pot. love scrapple fried with egg on top or just out of the pot with butter
rah, as I wrote to Betsy, we lived in part of Pennsylvania when it was claimed by connecticut. also another part of PA claimed by Virginia. and the studebakers lived along the susquehannah when it was claimed by Maryland and the delaware injuns who masakerd almost all of us
So do you make the Scrapple yourself using an old Pennsylvania Dutch recipe? Some how I doubt that it is something you would find in the stores out there.
its just corn meal mush (yum) plus left over pork. yellow corn meal not white. you know “the last of the wine and the white corn meal. the last high fiddle singing the reel…” kinda thing.
also whole pepper corns, thyme, salt, maybe three nutmeg buds. I specify yellow corn meal as it is what we are used to. We have always been among those who “dined in their boots at the second table.” beneath the salt if you will. those above the salt had the white corn meal and “the last of the silk with the Paris label, the last blood thoroughbred safe in the stable…”
scrapple goes well with bloody mary and can soak up at least three.
There are lots of different recipes for it. I would like mine spicier, like a good sausage.
Scrapple tastes great as well … haven’t had it in years. Was introduced to it in Southern Maryland. Bon appetit! 😀
Wow!!! Now ALL y’all are making this old Southern gal verrry hungry!!
Well, and by coincidence, I actually happened to photograph today’s late brunch before eating it. (Normally I’m not that patient.) So it may show up someday in an Open Thread … 🙂
Oooooo!!! Can’t wait!😁
For those that don’t know about Scrapple. It was originally a way to use the less desirable parts of the pig. In fact they said they used every part but the pig but the squeal in it. Hooves, nose, intestines, you name it.
Back then, when times were tougher it was necessary.
Now days most recipes call for port butt. The corn meal, either white or yellow or both, is a constant. But the spicing is to taste. It is usually made up in loafs in bread pans, and sliced and fried, usually in butter to brown it. It only requires browning because it was all precooked before it was formed into a loaf.
Can be made in large batches and the loafs frozen for later use.
How about blood pudding, rah? Ever try that? Part of what is called a cooked English breakfast…delicious sausages, bacon (but not as we know it here), eggs, mushrooms, toast, baked beans and grilled tomatoes. Yum!! Except for the blood pudding…
I can’t…I just cannot!
Tried Blood sausage in Germany. I’m not a picky eater but that was too much for me.
At least you tried. I wouldn’t even do that. Bravo you.
How bout some Haggis. 🙂
Never had it.
Actually I did try that. I was with others and out of politeness I did . And as I am wont to say, jay… Once and once only.😬
You said it one time! 🙁
. . . but deliver us from the Evil One.

The Fifth Sunday of Great Lent in the Orthodox Christian Church
Sunday of Saint Mary of Egypt
From The Synaxarion:
“The memory of this Saint is celebrated on the 1st of April [O.S.]; but she is also commemorated on this day, as the Holy Fast is already drawing to a close, in order to arouse the slothful and sinners to repentance, having Saint Mary [of Egypt] as an example.”

I had hoped, that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s nihilistic acceptance of his fate (Grounded in the confidence provided by the Koran.) would emulate Meursalt’s in Camus’ “The Stranger”. We Americans would have our catharsis as he went to his death, and, he, is hubris, pride and narcissism to comfort him as 17,000 volts sent him home to his virgins.
Then, I realized that in fact, like Meursalt, he had come to accept and enjoy his life in prison as he awaited his execution. Ecclesiastical proclamations and the words of the Prophet paled in comparison to the sustenance accorded by his infidel jailers. It is not accidental that he is, at heart, as are most of us, more Occidental than reverential.
He has probably put down the Koran and is now reading American fiction. I suggest his jailers bring him some Hemmingway. Maybe, “For Whom The Bell Tolls”.

The Kokomo newspaper printed a special issue and I will always remember this photo:
The caption was “The sign says Alto but the town is not there.”
Treepers your knowledge and discernment and opinions on this would be most welcome.
USAWatchdog .com – Greg Hunter has on Bo Polny who talks of upcoming events in the next 60 days.
He says we are in a Jubilee year. 50 years from Nixon leaving the gold standard. He bases his timelines on PAST Bible happenings , and says the Bible proclaims – ” WHAT WAS SHALL BE AGAIN ”
He does NOT predict exact events, he highlights the TIME when they occur.
He has been correct some , and wrong some …. still researching. Give a listen. What do you think ?
After a cold morning it is now 57 deg. F and sunny. Sherry is putting the rub on the Porterhouses and the grill on the deck is clean and ready. So in 3 hours I will be out there with a Jack & coke in hand grilling. Though we planned on having baked potato and toss salad we decided after looking at the size of the steaks that only a salad will be what we want with those steaks.
Despite the fact that the steaks cost $12.50 a lb on sale, life is good!
This is no surprise. The constant flip flop in temperatures and pressures made this possible:

Not at all the flash mob video I was looking for, thinking it’s even better.
This is the one I was originally looking for. Love watching the children in the crowd.
Love that. Monoculture works. The whole crowd knows the words even the guy partly behind the tree hoisting a cold one.
I think that girl is the conductor’s daughter. Paid for by Banco Sabadel in Barcelona
Wonderfully uplifting! 😊
I have had a very sad day. I went to Palm Sunday church service and then to the funeral services of my brother-in-law then come home to say goodbye to my first-born daughter as she embarks on her new life in a new state and that state is Texas. I do not know when I will see her again and it hurts my heart. I prayed at church that her move will be best for her, but it is hurting me beyond belief. This is hurting me more than when I buried my parents, and it shouldn’t; she didn’t die she just moved. Not many make comments on this thread but for those who do and read this please send a prayer for the safe arrival of my daughter to Texas. It will be much appreciated, and I have come to learn that Treeper’s seem too genuinely care for the people in this on-line community. Peace out and Love be with all
Praying for the safety and protection of your daughter as she travels to Texas and along her life’s journey there, KBH. Praying that your close family relationship will continue across the miles, for love has the power to transcend time and space. And praying that the Lord may grant your daughter the best of success!
KBH, I am so sorry for your goodbyes. And I am able to feel what you are feeling because in my life I have had so many of them myself. My children at one time were over 4000 miles away, but it makes no difference if the distance is that or 40 miles or …
Because out of your sight and reach is a pain like no other. I will say prayers for her with all my heart. I am here in Texas and I will also give thanks that it is this state rather than some horrible blue one where she will live.
And I will say prayers for you as well, as you get used to this next chapter in both your lives. Your strong bonds are safe and will not be broken. I do promise that, as I have discovered with my own.
These chapters are markers in life’s transitions and there is no way to avoid them. Painful? Oh yes. But you’ve sent a well adjusted functioning child (that she will always be no matter how old she is). You’ve done your best as her mother. Be proud of that and the daughter you’ve launched into the world…
And , as I did, allow yourself as many cries as you need. You’ll see her again and I bet soon🙏💓B
I’ve kept this on my phone for years… It’s only one part of a whole but I hope it will be a comfort for you…
“You are the bows from which your children
as living arrows are sent forth.
the Archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite,
And He bends you with His might
that his arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the Archer’s hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies,
so He loves also the bow that is stable. 🙏
Dear KBH: have been there; I know that anxiety so well
and am praying that your cherished daughter arrives safe & sound in her spot of Texas, to enjoy prosperity, and the blessings of friendly neighbors and healthy relationships of all kinds. And that your reunions are frequent and joyous.
Thank you all for your prayers. I truly feel welcomed here at the Treehouse. Shout out to Sundance. This site is like no other.
