Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

Good morning, WP💓. This is so beautiful and hopeful. 🙏
Almighty and everlasting God, in whom we live and move and have our being; We, thy needy creatures, render thee our humble praise, for thy preservation of us from the beginning of our lives to this day, and especially for having delivered us from the dangers of the past night. For these thy mercies, we bless and magnify thy glorious Name; humbly beseeching thee to accept this our morning sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving; for his sake who lay down in the grave, and rose again for us, thy Son our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen. 🙏
Beautiful, Betsy!
Good morning, Rileytrips💓 The most beautiful language in the world, I think. I feel so peaceful when I read these prayers.
Mornin’ Betsy. Hope y’all are doing good. 🙂
Oh good morning, Garrison💓!! We are, thank you so much..and I pray you and your bride are as well on this beautiful spring day in Texas. We are baby(dog) sitting for a day while our granddaughter competes in her last of the season volleyball tournament somewhere near Terrell. She’ll be playing with a jammed and swollen index finger, but will give it her best. Blessings to you, good sir🙏
Good afternoon, Betsy! Praying that your granddaughter has a great tournament and that jammed finger heals fast.
Thanks, G…I just checked in…finger sore but workable. Tournament not going well unfortunately. At last week’s, they took 2nd place. Our granddaughter is team captain and has said she’s really had a full time job rallying everyone. Not all her team mates unfortunately are as gung ho as she is….and she really is. Thank you for the encouragement💓.
Come soon Lord Jesus
Manuel Ponce was a personal friend of Andres Segovia. They were close musical collaborators and so we can surmise that Segovia had a hand in advising Ponce in his composition of this “Sonata III”. Segovia performed this wonderful piece throughout his musical career (I got to hear him perform it several times, in fact). Here we have a exquisite performance by Petra who also demonstrates three different concert guitars. After each element of of the Sonata, you’ll see a slight pause and then a introduction of a different concert guitar. Enjoy.
Live on the BBC, 1971, Neil Diamond, “Brother Love’s Traveling Salvation Show”
Here is a version that has an explanatory intro.
As with all singer songwriters these explanations vary. But hey, something happened to get a non-Christian to sing about a gospel revival.
Thank You!
Thank you, Boogywstew! Ah, memories of listening to that fine song on the car radio when I was in high school.
Your moniker is great~my favorite Led Zeppelin song.
You have good taste in music. : )
I have eclectic tastes in music, to be sure. I once had an ex gf remark, “I can’t believe I’m dating a guy who has a favorite musical!”
“Boogie With Stu” was a recorded jam from “Physical Graffiti” dedicated to Ian Stewart. When I first learned what an email address was, I immediately remembered the song title and thought it would be a great email address. I share the spelling of “Stewart” with Ian. I also preferred the spelling of “boogy” over “boogie”.
When I got my first computer in 2009, I set out to use “Boogywstew”. Another ex gf had spent hours trying to come up with an original email address and kept failing. She, like me, didn’t want to use a number just to make it work as in “Boogywstew74”.
I think she finally resorted to using 100 monkeys behind 100 typewriters?
Anyhow, I got my first choice on my first try which irritated her to no end!
Ah…..see why an “ex” gf. A true pal would have rejoiced with you. 😉
She became one of my best friends. I knew a very nice gentleman from church that I thought might be more her type. I was right! Now I have two great friends and their cats as pals.
…..and the cats, they just seal the deal. 😀
Morning Ya’ll , 🙂
Good afternoon, jay! We’ve been sunshining here for quite a while now. Will take some rain fr a change, and a lot of it. 😁
All we get is 8.65 days of sunshine here in the NW, 😉 . Leastwise that’s my story.
😁
“Walking On Sunshine” would have you smiling if you were walking down the hallway to your own execution!
All of us need a little sunshine right now.
So true, jay💓🙏
🙂 😉
Happy Caterday, Treepers! 🙂

In the picture at the top of https://theconservativetreehouse.com/blog/2022/03/25/the-hypocrisy-of-biden-speaking-about-democracy-vs-autocracy-in-poland-is-choking-when-contrast-against-western-govt-behavior-during-covid/ , the soldiers don’t seem thrilled to be with Pres. Biden.
And look at the moods of the soldiers, in the two pictures at the top of https://t.co/kfmyMkhH2B . They’re way more enthusiastic when Pres. Trump is there.
Yay, Pres. Trump!
Yawn . . . Reminds me of when Obama spoke to the military. They were soundly underimpressed. . .
I bet they had to draw straws to see who would be forced to show for Biden. And when they all sat down for pizza, the mannerless cretin started stuffing his face before any of the others were served. What a pig he is.
A possible song for other codgers to enjoy.
Gogi Grant singing “The Wayward Wind” very well at the incredible age of 80. (From a Oldies sales video on PBS)
I remember hearing and liking her original version many decades ago during my childhood.
Gogi’s original version during the bloom of her youth.
This old codger loves this song!
Like this one better than the original recording – her maturity and love of the song shine through.
The lies they tell.
Media hyping that:
Antarctic Ice Shelf the Size of Rome Collapses After Record Warmth Recorded
and other such nonsense about the Glenzer Conger ice shelf in East Antarctica.
They say it was due to a “heat wave”. It got up to a whole -12C during that “heat wave”. That’s 10.4F. Break out the beach chairs and sun lotion.
No “ice shelf” is stable. An “ice shelf” is sea ice that extends out from the shore, and sea ice is not stable. It gets pushed around by wind and wave action. It gets pushed further out to sea by ice advancing to the sea from the glaciers inland near the shore. And add to all that volcanism and plate tectonics. Antarctica, including east Antarctica is has quite a few active volcanos both on land and under the ocean.
Climate Experts Believe History Began After 2014 | Real Climate Science
Oh, and BTW. Such breakups will add virtually nothing to sea levels. It is, after all, sea ice. A big ice cube floating on water that broke into smaller ice cubes.
I’m always in awe of the melt in minds happening in below freezing weather.
My retired pilot buddy wrote this. He was an airline pilot and also a pilot in the Air Force reserve flying the C-141 a 4 engine jet transport that the C-17 has replaced now. I met Donny through a career Air Force flight engineer friend that said Donny was the best pilot he ever flew with.
When they flew the C141 to Antarctica the ice they landed on was over the sea, it had to be 14 feet thick, and even then it would ripple as the plane touched down.
George, my flight engineer friend is gone now. He told me that in his 30 year career that “hands down” the C-141 was the best aircraft he ever flew in. The C-141 was taken out of service because it’s engines were not nearly as fuel efficient as the newer jet engines.
I think the theory is that the ice sheet keeps glaciers from flowing out to sea.
In reality the glaciers are pushing on no matter. The ice has to go somewhere and gravity is relentless.

Pantera.. in the days of yore..
The Turning Point..
..I was there..
———————————–
as far as the glam metal band that had knocked on my door.. well.. we had a disagreement about direction..
they turned down the contract with new management and the Heart tour chance..
I couldn’t believe it.. I vehemently disagreed.. it was a big break.. you take those deals.. the money will come later..
they also had said I was drinking and partying too much.. so.. they kicked me out..
wtf.. I was a fck’n oilfield diver.. if I wasn’t offshore.. you could find me at the bar.. like most every other fck’n oilfield diver..
I even told my diving company that’s where they could find me if it was an emergency.. you could find me at Cardi’s..
anyway.. I went back to jamming in my apartment as before.. months had passed.. then another chance came up for me..
one of the guys at Cardi’s made some sort of an arrangement.. and asked me if I wanted to play as a guest guitarist with Pantera on New Years Eve..
I figured what the heck.. it’s a good connection.. so I agreed to go..
————————-
Pantera..
Before.. and.. After..
see the “and” in the above..
after the Before.. and before the After..
that’s where I was that New Years Eve.. caught in the middle..
the night of my chance onstage with Pantera.. a song had already been prearranged..
there were no guarantees though.. but they would try to fit me in..
I was in Pantera’s home turf.. at a club called Savvy’s in Fort Worth, TX..
I didn’t know It at the time.. but it was to be a historic night for Pantera..
backstage.. I was hanging out waiting for my chance.. and I noticed something else was going on..
as it turned out I wasn’t the only “special guest”..
I noticed there was this other guy off to the side.. waiting in the wings.. pacing aggressively back and forth.. practicing of sorts.. and who looked totally out of place..
he had no “glam” attire.. no big hair.. actually no hair.. he had a shaved head.. he looked like a fck’n gang banger right off the street..
it turned out to be Phil Anselmo..
I didn’t know it at the time.. but this also was the last night vocalist Terry Lee would sing for Pantera..
and the first night Phil Anselmo sang for Pantera.. their new singer..
it was not only a changing of the frontman.. it was a changing of their genre..
a whole new direction for the band..
I sat down and warmed up with ‘Diamond’ Darrell.. for what was to be a first.. and a last time..
the first time for “hair metal” me to sit down and trade riffs with ‘Diamond’ Darrell..
and it was the last night for the “hair metal” ‘Diamond’ side of Darrell..
from “Diamond Darrell”.. to what was to become “Dimebag Darrell”..
a historic night in the history of the band Pantera..
I was there.. and I missed the old Pantera.. in more ways than one..
before the night was over.. the previous “hair metal” Pantera as I had known them..
were now gone..
and the new “thrash metal” Pantera had taken the stage..
and with a wilding crowd.. chaos ensued..
a rubicon had now been crossed..
and my “hair metal” chance was now history..
..and..
..There I was..
just a small footnote..
in Pantera history..
—————————–
Pantera.. glam metal.. from the early days..
the good stuff.. a polished song.. FM radio material..
we all were young.. and reaching for the stars..
and ‘Diamond’ went on to make it to the top..
one of the most talented guitarists I had ever met..
R.I.P. ..
..Forever Tonight..
on youtube I couldn’t find the music video from the other band I was in..
but I did find this rare bootleg live recording of Pantera from the New Years Eve night I was waiting for my chance backstage..
more from this night is on the guy’s youtube page.. but listener discretion is advised..
it’s classic Texas bar band hair metal.. circa late 1980’s.. raw and unedited..
Those were the good ol’ days. Thanks for sharing!
Ya gotta love it:
The second video is the one I’m talking about.
. . . but deliver us from the Evil One.

Spiritual Vision Through Personal Purity
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. —Matthew 5:8
Purity is not innocence— it is much more than that. Purity is the result of continued spiritual harmony with God. We have to grow in purity. Our life with God may be right and our inner purity unblemished, yet occasionally our outer life may become spotted and stained. God intentionally does not protect us from this possibility, because this is the way we recognize the necessity of maintaining our spiritual vision through personal purity. If the outer level of our spiritual life with God is impaired to the slightest degree, we must put everything else aside until we make it right. Remember that spiritual vision depends on our character— it is “the pure in heart” who “see God.”
God makes us pure by an act of His sovereign grace, but we still have something that we must carefully watch. It is through our bodily life coming in contact with other people and other points of view that we tend to become tarnished. Not only must our “inner sanctuary” be kept right with God, but also the “outer courts” must be brought into perfect harmony with the purity God gives us through His grace. Our spiritual vision and understanding is immediately blurred when our “outer court” is stained. If we want to maintain personal intimacy with the Lord Jesus Christ, it will mean refusing to do or even think certain things. And some things that are acceptable for others will become unacceptable for us.
A practical help in keeping your personal purity unblemished in your relations with other people is to begin to see them as God does. Say to yourself, “That man or that woman is perfect in Christ Jesus! That friend or that relative is perfect in Christ Jesus!”
WISDOM FROM OSWALD CHAMBERS
We are not to preach the doing of good things; good deeds are not to be preached, they are to be performed.
Prayer for peace from Metropolitan Agafangel in Odessa
We thank Thee, Merciful Lord, King of the ages, and Author of every good thing, for Thou destroyest the walls of separation between enemies and grantest peace to those who seek Thy mercy.
We therefore entreat Thee to awake the desire for peace in the hearts of those who are filled with hate for their neighbor, and of those who are at war or are preparing for war.
Grant peace to Thy servants.
Fill them with Thy fear and establish them in love.
Extinguish every dispute and expel every temptation for dispute.
For Thou art our peace, and to Thee do we ascribe glory, to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and to the ages of ages. Amen.
Amen 🙏
Good afternoon, Cat!

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow, that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ.
AMEN.

Northern Ireland “celebrated” yesterday the passing of a law which makes it illegal to pray publicly for an end to abortion or even to help a woman who is being pressured into abortion. All it needs now to become official is the Queen’s assent.
I’m left with no words.
I wonder if there will be any Christians who will disobey that satanic law.
I wonder as well.
What I’m having trouble with also is how in this world the Queen, given her firm Christian beliefs, can possibly give her assent to this. If/when she signs the paper, she is as complicit as any who has pushed for this and voted for it. I am assuming she abhors abortion. But I’m unsure what bothers me most…the actual law or the fact that millions are “celebrating”. Two sides of the same coin.

Pacifism: A Biblical Perspective
Are we His foot soldiers on this earth? Yes. Then we must step up and never acquiesce in the face of evil… and we must stand and work against it without shirking, for His greater Glory.
An excellent post, thank you for this.
It’s funny how many people are eager to line up to be the Lord’s vessel to pour out blessings and deliver miracles, but when it comes to being part of His fighting army to strike back at evil, they step back and say, ‘Oh no, He’ll do that himself’.
We are His delivery system.
“…and quote the odd verse out of context…”
The “If My people…“ (2 Chr. 7:14) crowd.
they step back and say, ‘Oh no, He’ll do that himself’
The “God wins” (let’s eat) crowd.
My Isaiah lesson this week is the end of chapter 44 and Chapter 45. Great discussion last week and did not finish 44. That is fine. They are connected. From Chapter 45:
18 For thus says the Lord,
who created the heavens
(he is God!),
who formed the earth and made it
(he established it;
he did not create it empty,
he formed it to be inhabited!):
“I am the Lord, and there is no other.
19 I did not speak in secret,
in a land of darkness;
I did not say to the offspring of Jacob,
‘Seek me in vain.’[d]
I the Lord speak the truth;
I declare what is right.
The earth was formed for the purpose of habitation. The “We must save the earth by eliminating people” is another in the series of lies of the ungodly.
God alone defines truth.
God alone defines what is right.
His truth is what is right.
So very powerful, VM.

I have a serious question and maybe you’all can help me… Q. is attendance at (any Christian) Church a prerequisite to eternal life (heaven)?
god, NO
It will help your walk with him to gather with like minded souls. Have you studied the Gospel of John?
No, it is not in almost all denominations. There are several requirements for salvation in scripture but church attendance is not one of them.
It is part of the great variety and mystery of Christianity in that while there are vast differences in doctrine and practices, within that disagreement there is a shared understanding that God is sovereign, that the blood sacrifice of Christ paid the debt of sin and that His resurrection defeated the power of death.
With that said, almost all denominations are in agreement that once a person experiences the salvation of Christ and is bonded with Him through his salvation and the indwelling Holy Spirit that person will deeply desire the fellowship of other like believers that occurs with coming together in worship. It is not so much a requirement as it an expectation and evidence that one has a personal relationship with Jesus.
(The above is based on my limited knowledge. Since I am not omniscient, there may be denominations that require attendance, and not just the participation in rites, in their salvation beliefs. )
“…that person will deeply desire the fellowship of other like believers…”
I always feel “in church” when I’m on this thread with like minded friends and worshippers. More so than within any building amongst so many others. And goodness knows, we far surpass the 2 or 3 gathered together, including all those who visit but perhaps do not comment, or pass through with an occasional contribution.
Your eloquence always amazes me.
I, too, believe God is where He is needed.
He is with us always
Bless, ms idaho…you really are so kind. He is, always. Even when we may not feel His presence, I believe.
Years ago I had a cartoon. Small man, hunched over in a crouch. Clouds in sky with fist protruding. Finger poised to ‘flick’
Balloon words from crouching man “Don’t Thump. Don’t Thump”.
I can’t tell you how many times I have either ‘felt the thump’, or felt it was imminent.
If you are paying attention it is hard to miss. If you choose to ignore the warning signs sometimes the thump is profound.
Ahem – the words of experience
I understand that completely. For me as well. And confessionally, in my life I’ve felt the thump and ignored it. Paid the price for it as well. I’ve listened a lot better since.
Jay 1776 and his ‘Hi Y’all (southern, doncha know), reminded me of something from when I was young. I grew up in Tulsa a long time ago, and everyone was getting a television set except us.
Dad said it was just a fad and would soon disappear. But then his brother told him he could watch the boxing matches on television. So Dad brought home a tv set in time to watch the fights the next Friday night, (I think that’s when they were on.) There were things worth spending money on, and things that were not. My dad would dismiss anything as a fad that he didn’t want to spend money on.
Gosh I’m glad I grew up when I did. Simple fun, playing outside after dark, being entertained by an exotic looking man on the TV who played the organ for what seemed like hours and stared into the camera. I don’t think Channel 6 had much else to televise then. And oh yes, my dad once found Carouso singing on television and for sure he was hooked. And before long, Jack Bennie.
We used to drive to Elwood on Sundays to my Grandparents house to watch Bonanza and Disney in color. Our TV was black & White. When I was 7 I begged my mom to stay up past my bed time on Tuesday nights to watch Combat with Vic Morrow. She allowed it.
I feel the same way – THIS Tree has been my ‘church’ since I started coming here months ago – after my unasked-for retirement. It is my daily ‘bread’. Thanks to all who help me. Sincerely, Pauline
Beautiful, p…my daily bread as well. 🙏💓
parichute, think of all those who through age or infirmity cannot physically visit a church structure, or perhaps have no physical church home. I have always believed God is where He is needed, whether those He watches over know it or not. I doubt very much He adds, “but you must be in a certain designated place.”
Believing in Jesus Christ our Lord is the key, no matter if alone or amongst many.
No, it is not but we are encouraged to fellowship with other believers. Just a few points from an article written by Kelli Mahoney. Fellowship gives us a picture of God Romans12:4-6 (the body of Christ). It makes us stronger Matthew 18:29-20. It provides encouragement Hebrews 10:24-25. Fellowship reminds us we are not alone 1 Cor. 12:21. It helps us grow 1 Cor. 14:26.
Like I’ve heard it said many times, we are not to be Lone Ranger Christians. 😀
Thanks Grandpa – I was brought up in the Catholic church but encountered only one great priest along the way, none of the nuns were particularly impressive either. Then in my early teens, the highball-drinking, cigarette smoking priest washed my sisters mouth out with soap for passing a note in class. Then my catechism teacher (priest) was a pedophile to the boys and you know the rest… disenfranchisement with the whole thing, really. Alas I keep my Faith in Lord and Holy Trinity without the benefit of the Eucharist except when I attend for Memorial Masses or Weddings. I tried a few other Christian churches on for size and its the ‘fellowship’ that creates an anxiety for me. I have difficulty when pressured to belong according to someone else’s idea of belonging. I love people, but I like to choose with whom I spend my time and share my self.
Jay1776 – I will revisit John – I thank and Bless you.
I heard this spoken at a public event once, the speaker was driving home this point.
“Keep The Faith” he said and repeated that statement twice more. No matter what anyone else does.
Don’t feel like the Lone Ranger. My ‘fetching up’ was not very different.
About 10 years ago, when I was in Hospital in Butte MT (of all places) an extraordinary older Priest ‘made the rounds’.
Had he been my priest (or I been one of his parishioners) 60 years ago, my story might be different. Alas, on a subsequent visit there was a younger priest. That was the end of that…
I don’t know how to describe the difference. Holier? More understanding and compassionate? Old enough to be closer to God? More able to radiate and reflect the Goodness of God? Words escape me – but there was a difference. I was glad to know this Priest.
The Great Priest I knew walked like Jesus, really. He was the epitome of Christ-Like and I believe it was he who gave me my religion. We also had the same Birthday on April Fool’s Day, I shall never forget him. His name was Father Holland, God took him home I’m sure – on the bullet train through the Gates. 🙂 Interesting fact about my father… he passed away in 2015 and we were given a certificate of sorts saying he had been given a free pass into heaven, no Purgatory. Evidently this can be awarded to some by the Parish priest under the permission of the Pope. We had never heard of such a thing, prior. Needless to say, he was the best father a girl (or in our case 5 girls) could ask for. May the Lamb of God shine in our lives today and forever.
How truly fortunate for him to have been in your life. He sounds like he was a very fine man and servant of God.
May He shine indeed. Amen and amen🙏
In my youth, growing up…and I’ve mentioned this before…our rector was I’m sure ordained for his calling well before he was actually ordained. He was a deep voiced man, a graduate of the Naval Academy, a kind and reverent man. He was also a family friend. He and his wife both were cancer stricken at the same time, and my father treated them both surgically. He survived and she did not. I was too young to understand that my dad was as affected by this loss as any he ever saw.
There was just something about him and his sermons…which were delivered conversationally as if to each person individually in his congregation…that was compelling.
While I’ve not deliberately looked for another such as he, I’ve never felt as comfortable with any as I was with him. When my life took a very much unexpected turn, he was the greatest comfort. He was a one of. I do miss him and think of him often.
I know exactly what you mean, ms idaho. I truly do.
You know, G…there are a few friends from this thread who are now absent. A day doesn’t go by that I don’t think of them. For example MIA is Sarah Lee whose contributions were always beautifully written. One day here, then gone the next without notice. I hope she’s all right.
But over the past few weeks especially, S has been on my mind. And today in particular my thoughts are occupied by him. I pray he is as all right as his physical issues allow him to be…in fact better. I do miss him. Please send my regards and affections to him. He is absent here, but not from my heart. B
As I drive the big truck I listen to audio books. I have been listening to U.S. Grant’s extensive memoirs of the Civil War. So extensive that on YouTube’s free audiobooks it is broken down into 4 sections.
In fact I am now listening to it a second time because after the first I realized I needed to brush up on my Civil War era maps of places and topography to get the most out of it.
Several times Grant writes of how damaging the press of the North was to the war effort. And how the Confederacy took total control of their press to only print news or views which their government desired. Each side got the newspapers from the other side relatively quickly and regularly. Often, as a Lt. General, as he closed in or Richmond, Grant was reading Richmond papers only a day or two days old.
Even as Confederate Generals Floyd and Pillow were getting ready to sneak out and escape Ft. Donelson, because after an attempt to have the garrison fight it’s way out, they knew their cause was lost, Confederate papers were reporting a great victory under their leadership.
Shiloh was reported as a victory for the south in the Confederate press and even some papers in the Union reported it as such.
During Sherman’s march to the sea, the Confederate papers reported that Sherman’s army was starving and trapped and ultimately doomed, and some Northern papers were reporting the same. In fact that story carried so much weight that Lincoln wrote Grant asking him if Sherman’s Army was OK. And then based on Grant’s reply made a public statement that all was well with Sherman.
The day before the Confederate defenses at Petersburg collapsed after the defeat of their defenses on the White Oak road, the Richmond press was reporting a great victory for Lee.
I once found an online account written by someone who was with Grant as he was dying from throat cancer and staying in a cottage upstate from NYC. It was pretty moving as Grant was wrapping up his last edits. But you do need to keep in mind that, like all memoirs, they need to be read with caution.
Sure, as always. There are errors Grant made that he omits and the digging of canals to try to get around the defenses of Vicksburg he claims he never thought would work but were useful in keeping the men busy during the winter and spring months before a real campaign could begin. That is not the full truth.
He admits regretting the attacks a Cold Harbor but does not really admit culpability though he was fully culpable.
Still, over all I find that he is generally more honest than most, and much more honest than many.

“God always give His best to those who leave the Choice with Him,:
I don’t believe it is possible to do it wrong. Some doors open and you are prevented from making the wrong choices. So what happens is what is supposed to happen.
We often use the old Ben Franklin method of making choices. 2 lists . One – every positive thing you can imagine. two – every bad thing you see – or can imagine. That means asking lots of questions, talking with lots of people, weighing alternatives.
Then you look at the 2 lists. Not only which one is longer, but which one has things of more importance.
You get the idea. Don’t be a worrier – but maybe be more of a mirror? Reflect back what they share with you? Help your offspring put things in perspective? Ask informed but uncritical questions. Have you considered this? as a consequence of that?
Bottom line – no matter what you plan for, no matter how well coordinated you think your plans are, they won’t work out that way. If you know that little detail in advance you won’t be surprised at the way things work out.
Thank you Idaho.
I love her so much and want the best. She is like me but not like me — more impulsive, differently wired. Your courage in moving is inspiring me on many levels. And you are so right about “the best-laid plans” — just gotta give room to the Almighty for those divine plans to work
GREAT AND GLORIOUS NEWS!!! From Rebel News…
Pastor Pawlawski has FINALLY been granted bail!
He is still under house arrest (of course), but at least he is with his family and has been released from the clutches of his cruel gulag torturers. And I give unbridled and heartfelt thanks to God Almighty, to Him be all glory🙏
Thanks for posting this betsy! Glorious news indeed!!!
I’m so relieved for him and his family, even though the Communists running Canada now haven’t done with him. His God has not left him. Nor will He.
Glory be to God, in the Highest! This is the best news I’ve heard all month.
It is simply the best!!🙏
SPECIAL FORCES PRAYER
Amen, rah🙏
Amen…
Texted Betty to let her know that I had taken care of Cooper their dog. Let him out to do his business and filled his food and water bowls.
She says that they think it is a kidney stone but are still awaiting test results. If that is the case then that is a big relief. Something that is treatable even though so painful that morphine is indicated. Knew it has to be something that he couldn’t gut out because he’s a tough man in his quiet sort of way.
Kind of you to let her know the dog was being well taken care of.
Yup….that would be a big relief ’cause they can zap those things and get you back on your feet quite quickly these days.
It is all I can do. Wish I could do more. I really can’t imagine not having my friend around. Our lives are connected in many ways. It is also comforting to me when I’m on the road to know he is next door and Sherry can call on him any time if there is a problem.
The 90 year old Widow lady next door relies on both Steve and Betty also. He is the one that takes her trash out and bring the can back in most of the time, though I do it when I see it needs to be done if I’m home.
He and Betty take care of her yard also.
When Steve goes to take her trash can out he always brings an apple or carrots to feed to Holly the Pony, who’s corral is just across the street.
That is just the kind of guy he is.
He sounds like a great guy….and an amazing neighbor to have when you’re away too. You really are blessed. Continued prayers…..
This would be the best outcome for a sudden and inexplicable illness necessitating an ER visit. And yes…kidney stones can sink the strongest to his knees. Prayers will be ongoing. Thank you for the update🙏
Amen indeed.
Ham, green beans, and potatoes for dinner tonight. The ham hock is a boiling.
Rah, you reminded of this recipe from my Flavours (San Antonio) cookbook…
Cook and drain green beans. Put in reheatable dish.
Melt 1/2 stick butter with 1 tablespoon mustard and 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, stirring until well blended.
Pour the above over the beans, making certain they are coated. Leave for a couple of hours. Reheat before serving.
I don’t know how many beans you prepare (assuming they are fresh) , but this is one of those marinades you can adjust for more or fewer. Works well with drained canned as well. Delish with ham.
This time of year the beans are frozen. But when available she makes it with fresh and I sit down and help her snap them.
It doesn’t matter, fresh frozen or canned. I use mostly frozen myself. This particular marinade works if one is having ham or pork. Otherwise, I just serve with lemon and butter. Can’t wait for the fresh!
BTW, add Seasonall and garlic and your marinade sounds exactly what my favorite marinade for steaks is.
If steak prices ever come down, I’ll certainly give it a try.
Leave out the mustard.
No problem…I would have done so… I just couldn’t see that. Why ruin a good steak?
There are signs of beef coming down in price here Betsy (almost spelt Best-y, which would appropos as well 😉 I bought two PRIME strip steaks the other day for $13.50 (1.25 lb.) plus a top Roast we smoked and sous vide(ed) are now slicing for this weeks’ lunches AND a huge London Broil that I cut in half and marinated 2-ways (they are in the freezer)
😂😂😂!!! I’ve been Besty so much of my life by those who transposed those two letters. Through my dear dear friends in Wales who renamed me “Bet”, a great gift was given to me. Please feel free to call me that😉Frank and GrandpaM do!
Wow!! Bargain!! Occasionally one of the men who works at my Neighbourhood Wal-Mart and has become a friend, as all who work there have become, has directed me towards perfectly good meat reduced because of the sell by date. I had a wonderful pot roast from them ( I don’t find the critiques of their meat to be accurate).
But the last time I bought a steak a few years back, I bought it at Sprouts. It was delicious. I haven’t bought any meat from them in a long time, but by golly I’ll start keeping an eye out for any price reductions. Thank you for the heads up on putative price drops💓
Fried Spam and eggs scramble, add onion, shrooms, garlic and a good dose of Chipotle tabasco. 🙂
Since Spam is one of my truck foods I rarely eat it at home but there are a couple cans in the pantry. My oldest Granddaughter still calls it “Papaw Ham” because I was the one that that fried some up that she ate when she was a little girl.
I have a young friend who is struggling to identify herself politically.
So, I’m trying to find an unbiased, detailed online quiz that places the respondent in the political party that most likely aligns with his/her beliefs.
Years ago someone here at the Treehouse linked a very good one that would put you on a 4 quadrant grid with two axes, but all I can find now are poor facsimiles that use loaded questions.
Does anyone know where I can find the one that I remember?
I wish I could help, LJP2014.
I just learned my best friend and neighbor, Steve, is in the ER. They don’t know what is going on yet but Betty, his wife, will let us know. You will not find a better man. I can’t imagine my life without him. He is there when I need him and I try my best to be there when he needs me.
Prayers going out for your wonderful friend rah….
Thank you so much!
Praying for this now!
I’m adding mine, rah. Please let us know, if you think it is appropriate. May the Holy Spirit be with him and his worried wife🙏
Thank you all so much.

Steve just called. It was a kidney stone. He is home now. They’ve got him doped up and say if he doesn’t pass it in the next 5 days then come back in. Said it put him down real quick. BP shot way up and he was sweating and at first they thought he was having the big one.
Deo gratias!!🙏 Thank you, rah. So relieved for him and his wife.
Good news, hope he passes it successfully!
Od to the C-141B.
My crew chief friend retired from the AF after a 30 year career. When he got out he finished his degree and went to work for UPS. He wrote the manual for the first 747s that UPS bought for carrying freight.
He swore “hands down” the C-141 was the best aircraft he ever flew in. That aircraft was removed from service and replaced because the jet engines it used were far less fuel efficient than the newer engines. The airframes all had plenty of hours on them also but still had significant life left.
I have flown over the Atlantic in them many times and jumped them several. The most memorable was a low level tactical fight across the US and through the Rockies then rigging in flight to jump onto the DZ at Ft. Lewis, WA.
The next day we were trucked to the base of Mt. Ranier and climbed the mountain with full rucks. The plan was to stay up there do some training while up near the summit. However several civilian climbers on the west face died in an avalanche and conditions were getting so sketchy that we ordered to get off the mountain ASAP.
Flying across the Atlantic in one when there is only one or two teams on board is really quite enjoyable and I did that several times. I would rig my hammock up at the back deck tied to the rear brackets to the jump cables and with a poncho liner sleep quite comfortably. We could play hackysack and poker, though for the later we used sign language.
The first time me feet touched the ground, actually snow, in Germany was under canopy having jumped from a C-141B. A flight of three had been tasked for a training flight across with a CARP (Computer Actuated Release Point) jump as their objective in Germany.
They could have done the exercise without Jumpers but our Company SGM somehow heard about it and volunteered the team I was on to go with he going also of course. So there were only four of us in each aircraft.
During the flight the crew invited us up to flight deck and it was cool looking out and seeing the other two birds flying the formation in the morning sun over the Atlantic with their contrails streaming out behind them. Just Beautiful.
The DZ was the close to the Kasserne at Bad Tolz an laid between a road and a cultivated forest of pines. We all missed the DZ going into the pines. I managed to come down between a row aiming for a pile of snow and that is where I landed. Now when going into the trees you don’t drop your rucksack to the end of the lowering line but ride it in and land with it still attached hanging below your reserve parachute. When I landed in the pile of snow it was actually that packed icy stuff. My legs penetrated but the rucksack did not and it threw the upper part of my body forward over the metal frame of the Large ALICE ruck I was jumping and really knocked the wind out of me and left a bruise across my belly. But back then I had a six pack and my abs were tough and so I had no more serious damage.
However, I have also flown in one to Italy complete with the Air Force version of airline seats and a “comfort palate” that had bathrooms and meals in racks heated and that was not comfortable at all though much better than being rigged for jump in full combat equipment and rucksack sitting in those red nylon seats.
During Jump School one makes five jumps to qualify. One of mine was made from a C-141 A. The rest for C-130s. The C-141As were all having their fuselage extended to make them B models because the aircraft was proven to be able to handle more than it’s original design called for. So that was the only jump I made from an A model.

The first (and only) time for me 🙂
I saw the ship at the dock in Philly a couple years ago when I was down there picking up a load. I don’t know if they have broken her up or if they are going to do something else with her.
seen on Gab
I love listening to elders tell their stories of life ‘in the day’; tears in my eyes as well reading this story. Thank you for sharing. It feels like Sunday today apropos of nothing as they say in some old song.
Hi parichute 🙋♀️
Personally, everyday here feels like a church fellowship and daily Bible studies, prayers and the hymns , courtesy of many treepers (you know who you are) 🥰. I’ve become more intimate with the Lord now than ever in a stick built church.
This discussion along with the one upthread about church has been especially endearing to me!
You all are so special to me I’ve met a lot of beautiful souls here ❤️ I miss some of the first treepers I met, Including juststevie and Solomon. For me,in the beginning, these two are responsible for my renewed interest in the Lord! I love them and all of you sooooo much.
I could go on and on gushing so about all your wonderful exchanges but don’t wish to embarrass anyone (me).
And mungrel, getting itchy for a romp. I’ve cleared some of the felled trees for space to run. If you’re so inclined, you can join me. That is, if your zipper didn’t get stuck on your $&#%. 😜
What makes the world go round!
There are more good generous people in this world than there are not. A greater gift than any of those who were so kind probably imagined. God bless all of them.
I have always believe that Betsy – more good than evil (people) in the world. It is Media and Governments that want you to believe otherwise to foment despair.
If you watched this Sunday morning show anyway, while you waited for Ultraman and Lost in Space to finally come on…
Highly suggest you watch this weeks Saturday Summary from Joe Bastardi. It is short and too the point but not sweet.

But for those that won’t. Winter is not over for us in the central and eastern US. We are locked into a cold pattern for the next two weeks. Monday in New England is going to be a “wild day” of weather with cold and snow bearing down.
You in Texas and Oklahoma looking at another blast of severe weather on Tuesday though probably not as severe as what you just have. However when it moves east on Wednesday it moves along the Louisiana Alabama border and Joe says “it could be a real big ticket day” for severe weather there.
So hold onto your hats and don’t put those warmies away yet.
