In an effort to keep the Daily Open Thread a little more open topic we are going to start a new daily thread for “Presidential Politics”. Please use this thread to post anything relating to the JoeBama Administration and Presidency.
“This is no small thing, to restore a republic after it has fallen into corruption. I have studied history for years and I cannot recall it ever happening. It may be that our task is impossible. Yet, if we do not try then how will we know it can’t be done? And if we do not try, it most certainly won’t be done. The Founders’ Republic, and the larger war for western civilization, will be lost.”
“But I tell you this: We will not go gently into that bloody collectivist good night. Indeed, we will make with our defiance such a sound as ALL history from that day forward will be forced to note, even if they despise us in the writing of it.”
This thread will refresh daily and appear above the Open Discussion Thread.
Whenever the possibility presents, throw sand into the machinery…

Just something to consider.
Face recognition is a misnomer. A recent documentary on china I watched said the software they developed works based on the body and how it moves, your gate. They do not need to see a face to identify you.
Consider wearing lifts to change your appearance in addition to protecting your face, if you can.
Put a pebble in one of your shoes.
”Dr.” Fauci tried wearing lifts, but everyone still pegged him as a little asshole anyway.
Avoid cities like the plague. Apologies to treehouse residents living in cities. Get out if you can.
Spelling is important. It’s GAIT not gate. And you are absolutely correct. Change the way you normally walk . . . multiple times. Use your beautiful, free imagination. Practice. Have fun. There’s a John Cleese (sp? lol) video you might be able to find. Something about a Ministry. SO apropos. 💖
Ministry of Silly Walks. Monty Python. Need a laugh? This is golden. 🤣
thanks Tea..gait, I was too lazy to look it up, now I wish I had.
I’m going to start playing with this gait thing. I’m a dancer. All I need to do is a different dance step and I’ve got this thing nailed. It will take a while for them to nail my gait, right? Thanks for the reminder about this. It is true and you are absolutely correct about it. Thumbs up, doug!

A public school in San Antonio segregated fifth-grade students by hair color, subjected them to harassment and abuse, and showed them graphic photos of murdered black children—all as part of a twisted “antiracism” lesson.
Sounds like the anti-racists are really the racists.
Kind of like the anti-Fascists, that are clearly Fascists.
Meanwhile at central planning.

‘Antiracist’ is a term promoted by 60’s communist Angela Davis.
Her definition is, an antiracist ‘actively’ dismantles all structures and institutions in the West because they are all founded on white supremacy which is the foundation of capitalism.
She contrasts this with ‘nonracist.’ I guess that’s somebody who is not an activist.
Again, it’s Orwellian verbal engineering-opposite.
So, how many Apple Computer manufacturing plants are there in Africa? What about Microsoft? Boeing? Airbus? Does Google, Facebook or Twitter have any software development facilities in Africa? Amazon? What about Nike make any shoes there? Africa has untold natural resources, plenty of cheap labor and access to two oceans but nobody wants to manufacturer or develop anything of value there. Why?
I would like to know the answer to that question as well..
Great question
Never considered what I did not learn in public school geography, or even college courses. Learned from reading Thomas Sowell that Africa lacks natural deep water harbors. The topography on the interior presents many challenges to transpiration (The Great Rift for instance) and many rivers are un navigable.
But these are historic barriers. Certainly computer chips, I phones, and laptops can be flown out, so there’s that
Who would have thought this could have happened 🙂
In first months since passage of St. Paul’s rent-control ordinance, housing construction is way down
https://www.minnpost.com/cityscape/2022/03/in-first-months-since-passage-of-st-pauls-rent-control-ordinance-housing-construction-is-way-down/
Rent control has destroyed the housing industry in NY City as well as making affordable housing impossible.
Rent control is going to give us all housing Soviet Style. Grey cement with no insulation water dripping from every pipe and no one who cares.
Rent control is completely unconstitutional but, then, the three “Constitutionalists” that President Trump nominated to the Supreme Court have lost their copies of the Constitution!
You ever been to Co Op City in the Bronx?
Co-op apartments are owned not rented!
If ever any kind of housing project was headed from the get go to become as “annieoakley” describes … Co Op City is that place. It was shoddily constructed and maintenance is shoddy as well.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Co-op_City,_Bronx
My own personal experience in living in NYC and visiting friends and family there was I could never figure out the rhyme or reason for anyone who ended up living in a rent controlled apartment??? It just seemed to me that everyone I met living in a rent controlled apartment could afford to pay what the going rate was. And I always figured a landlord should be able to charge whatever he could get for rent.
When does the wholesale insulating of half of NYC begin? That will drive rents into the stratosphere.
Boogey they are handed down family to family and no one ever moves. My aunt had a one bedroom apartment across from the 59th Street Bridge in Astoria. Her rent was $35 a month. She lived there for 45 years and never moved.
Very early in our marriage, and long before it became a T.V. show, my husband and I started buying houses that were next to being condemned, fixing them up and either renting them out or selling them.
We learned quickly that renters have all the rights and landlords have almost none.
That was on the lower east side of St. Paul, from the mid 1980s to the late 1990s.
When an 80-something tenant moved out in the middle of the night and skipped on her rent, we knew our days of restoring homes destined for destruction were over.
You can’t win.
get first and last month’s rent when they move in……
Better yet…get 12 months rent upfront. In Florida the tenant has all the rights and having a written lease is a joke since the lease conditions only apply to the benefit of the tenant.
Thanks for your great comments. Good idea.
First, Last, and Security.
Raven
I cannot imagine the headaches of being a landlord. But I’m almost positive in all of those years you had some good tenants too.
Flova,
You are right, we did meet some very nice people, who also appreciated the work we did and how accessible we always were if they ever needed anything.
One of the best memories I have of Christmas came when we were living in one of the houses we bought and were fixing up at the same time.
The house was in a terrible neighborhood, I believe the second worst for crime in the Twin Cities at the time, full of old houses in tough condition.
We moved in and started working on the old girl. One of our neighbors kept their yard neat, one kept a bunch of junk in their yard, including broken vehicles, motorcycle parts, scrap wood, trash that didn’t make it to the trash can, etc. So we built a privacy fence on both sides, just to have a quiet yard for the people who would eventually buy the place from us.
My husband often complained about the junk yard next door, and said he was going to call the city and report them. I asked him not to, saying no one ever knows what is going on in someone elses life that causes them to be left in shambles, and he agreed. I asked him if we could go knock on the neighbor’s door and volunteer to clean their yard for them. He said absolutely not, and he was right; we had more than enough work of our own to do — since we were still both working full-time jobs that had nothing to do with restoring old houses.
A week before Christmas that year I was drawn to a Hickory Farms cart at the mall and I bought one of those huge salamis, not knowing who I was buying it for. Soon I knew exactly who it was meant for, so I wrapped it with some special Christmas paper and had it ready to go when the time came.
The next day I heard noise coming from the messy back yard and I ran outside with the wrapped gift.
It was the first time either my husband or myself had talked to anyone living in that house, and it was me talking to a really tough looking biker dude. I walked around the fence and stood among broken vehicles covered in snow and said, “Merry Christmas, neighbor!” The tough dude looked at me with surprise as I held out the wrapped salami to him and he asked, “Is that for me?”, to which I said, “Yes, it’s for you!” He then asked a second time, “For me?” as if he did not believe anyone would give him a Christmas gift that year, and I said, “Yes, it is only a small gift, but it is a gift just for YOU. Merry Christmas, neighbor!”
The look on that man’s face as he looked at the wrapped and unknown gift he had been given was, to me, the greatest gift of true Christmas spirit I could have been given. That tough biker dude suddenly looked like a little boy who thought he had been forgotten, and instead he had been remembered and rejoiced.
A few months later when an ambulance came in the middle of the night and took that man to the hospital we learned he had been battling stomach cancer for many years.
We never know what is going on in someone’s life that causes them to do the things they do, but we try to give them grace to live their life without adding any additional stress caused by us.
I installed flooring in the downstairs apartment of a 2 apartment house.
The folks upstairs had been there for years and were good tenants.
The downstairs apartment was empty for a short time until the new people moved in. They never talked to the landlord or anyone else, they just moved in. They were tapping a hot wire going upstairs or into a basement breaker box belonging to the upstairs tenants for electricity. They turned their own gas and water on by snipping locks.
It sounded like a simple case of breaking and entering to me. It took the landlord 6 MONTHS to get them out! They punched holes in all the walls, burnt holes in the carpet and vinyl floors with a clothes iron, smashed the toilet bowl and sinks and poured cement down all the drains.
This was in Dunkirk NY about 15 years ago.
Sounds like Pacific Heights.
Hilarious but sad

His name is the first to appear in the published emails linked in the report.
Georgia Tech recruited him from DARPA in 2018.

is the revelation that emails show gollust and Zucker ‘ordered’ Governor Cuomo to oppose Trump’s proposal to quarantine NYC March 28, 2020. Assumedly, there are other emails showing other such orders, ie. maintain lockdowns. Also, possibly, there are emails showing Obama people (i.e. Ben Rhodes and Wittes) giving the original order to Gollust and zucker.
In a pre-2016 USA, this would be a massive scandal–watergate times 1000. Obama using media and governors to oppose Trump and ruin his presidency.

The White House says there is no longer an active conversation on importing Venezuelan oil.
What the WH didn’t tell you is that Venezuelan oil is off the table because Maduro told Biden to get RTK.
4:52 PM · Mar 14, 2022·
are any of the words associated with RTK allowed in polite company?
So Saudi Arabia would not talk to biden about oil sale, Iran is going to meet with Russia and China, so I am thinking oil from them won’t happen, and now Venezuela won’t sell oil to biden.
So who is left to supply oil to the USA…why, the USA, of course!

So several questions I need answered. Is the Media trying to start A real World War? Is Jake Sullivan threatening china? That in itself is funny and sad . What is Iran doing? I come to Last Refuge to get Real honest answers from real honest people.
Yes the Media is trying to start a war, or do anything requested of them by the democrat party, who pay them with our tax dollars.
No Jake Sullivan isn’t threatening China, well he may have tired, but they kicked him out on his butt empty handed.
The Russians, at least, appear to be wide awake as to the true nature of our collective enemy?

Why only K-3? This whole thing should be banned..parents need to reassume their rolls as parents and do their job whether they like it or not. Parents are the ones who got us into this problem; they voluntarily handed over their responsibilities to teachers because it is easier. Get a grip people, if you have kids do your jobs.
It’s sad that this is seen as a major victory.

A recent poll found that a majority of American voters believe that Putin would not have decided to invaded Ukraine had Trump still been in the White House.
Maher blasted pundits on both sides of the political aisle for using the Russia-Ukraine conflict to prove “everything we already believed and everything goes back to what we already hate,” pointing to Republicans blaming President Joe Biden for the ongoing war and Democrats blaming everything under the sun on Trump.
Also on Friday night, Maher defended Florida’s anti-grooming law, which Democrats and progressive critics have falsely labeled the “Don’t Say Gay” bill.
