Some students from Middleton High School in Florida were in attendance for Gov. Ron DeSantis’ announcement of a cybersecurity training initiative at the University of South Florida.
As the Florida governor approached the podium, he said: “You do not have to wear those masks. I mean, please take those off. Honestly, it’s not doing anything. We gotta stop with this covid theater. If you want to wear it fine, but this is ridiculous.”
The media immediately went bananas at the audacity of the governor for giving students the option to remove their masks.
The media is apoplectic (see below for headlines). Newsweek said DeSantis “scolded” them. Business Insider said Desantis “snapped” at them. Yahoo News says DeSantis “bullied” them. CNN said that DeSantis “yelled” at them.
I hope Governor DeSantis now tells our doctors to stop requiring that we wear masks in their offices. I dare say there is hope as our dentist no longer requires the wearing of any masks.
I had a dr. listed as my primary even though I never visited his orifice..informed of compulsory mask policy I ripped the stooge on tge phone and crossed that office off forever.
Doctor was, no doubt, worried about frivolous suits by tort lawyers. Doctors’ insurance carriers insist on this policy as insurance carriers have to pay big bucks to defend lawsuits. It’s a legalized shake-down racket.

Your comment reminds me that my daughter’s pediatric orthopedic doctor told me a few years ago that his malpractice insurance was $42k per year! He had never been sued, reprimanded, or anything else. It is a racket. The medical/legal system is just corrupt with greed. Like everything else, I guess.
Interestingly, I had a legal class that was required for managers that the instructor, who was a lawyer, stated that she sued a couple of companies so she could get her classes filled up. Once she had a couple of companies scared to get sued for anything, she had a reliable revenue stream teaching managers how not to get sued.

I haven’t been to a doctor for 2+ years. I have never worn a mask anywhere. The grocery store was a pain, but I’d pull out the PA governor’s Mandate and read the section about the exception for pharmacies and grocery stores. Since I went early in the morning they finally stopped asking. What was really fun was when ‘Karen’s’ complained to the customer service desk about me, they backed me up!
That was at least something that Dr. Levine didn’t screw up in PA. .

I was at my doctors office yesterday. He didn’t insist I put mine on but he kept his on. He speaks with a soft voice and after I had to ask him several times what he said, he took it off so I could understand him. At least he met me halfway.

The medico-industrial complex here in central IN, at least in my county, is still mask bound. I had a lot of medical issues last year, including two eye surgeries and a back surgery. The eye doc wasn’t messing with masks as he has a private practice. Over at the surgery center, they were because science, I guess. And lawyers I don’t doubt. My PC and the urologist (two trips caused by, I’m sure, a bad lab result) are required by their hive to wear them however– the way I play doctor’s visits is if required, I put them on to get past the gatekeeper and into the examining room, then, off it comes. The doc shows up, doesn’t say jack about my not wearing a mask (seated under the sign that says, you have to keep it on), and we go about our business. So much theater!

DeSantis still allows Florida hospitals to impose MahhShhkkk mandates on visitors and patients. He still imposes a ‘one visitor one time and only one time per day’ mandate for hospitals. If you leave to get food during a visit, for instance, you cannot return.
DeSantis still allows the exclusion of anyone under 18 from visiting patients at Florida hospitals. Your 17 year old cannot visit his very ill Grandma. It could be his last chance to say ‘I love you.’

I have long had a major issue with hospital rules.
A reason given for “gay marriage” was “they can’t visit in the hospital, cause they aren’t spouse or family”.
My responce was “Hold it, before we even talk about gay marriage, just WHO in the HELL is the hospital, to say who you CAN and CAN’T have visit you?
Its none of their business, and they have no medical justification.
I have family members I would NOT want to see if I was on my deathbed, and people not related to me, that I am very close to.

Humans are social creatures. We rely on a lot of nonverbal language when we communicate, just as much as verbal. Not seeing the rest of the face does have an impact. It is socially isolating and meant to be so.

Bothers me too. Maybe because he has a heavy population of Democrats and elderly snowbirds in the state whose continued support he needs, a powerful medical and hospital lobby in the state, is not a medical expert, and has weighed the politics pro and con of fighting this among other issues.

The elderly are the vulnerable population for COVID. So I can see restrictions being in place as a safety measure. However, DeSantis listened to a wife of an Alzheimer’s patient to allow contact with loved ones. I listened to an interview with her on American thought leaders. He brought her on a patient advocate task force. So he at least shows he is capable of listening to others and making adjustments.
I can’t remember the outcome, but I believe there was legislation or an executive directive to open up visits to the elderly. But just like the schools, many nursing homes defied the new orders.
What should be evident to all is that many leaders in government are absolutely powerless against the bureaucrats who just do what they want. The same is true in many businesses. The employees are powerless against the corporate bureaucrats and from what I see, many of the executives are too chicken to take on the wokerati in HR.

I watched a busload of elementary school children this morning boarding the bus in the neighborhood. Of 10 students, 9 were wearing masks and the last one had his mask below his chin.
The governor here in Virginia has signed a bill into law that school districts can not mandate the wearing of masks, it is optional. I was sad for these kids and for their parents that continue this COVID Theater of the absurd.

Sorry to hear of your situation Alligator. My friend’s 17 yr old son had a tragic accident in late March 2020, right after they closed the schools. He was life flighted to Shands in Jacksonville. He was in a coma for 9 weeks..there were no restrictions on family visits, my friend’s family all visited..her and her husband were there 24/7 for 8 weeks. Sadly their son passed after 9 weeks. They brought him home after the 8th week to die..the hospice team did not make us wear masks to visit.
This is what I think I’m going to start doing. I don’t know why, but I get angry when I see people in masks. It’s starting to bother me and I don’t think I’ll be able to keep my inner thoughts inside for much longer.

I took a job in Florida and moved here from Maskachusetts. The most surprising thing to me is that my job and my wife’s require universal masking while working indoors while my Maskachusetts job did away with cuck muzzles last April. DeSantis needs to stop virtue signaling about this mask nonsense and drive an employee bill of rights through the Florida legislature that prohibits corporate places from requiring forced masking.
The media that complains about Gov. DeSantis , Is not followed by sane readers and viewers away.
