Good luck making an impact there! By far they are the most government dependent population. Goes way back centuries to the paternalistic relationship with the Catholic church. In the twentieth century the government took over that role. Extremely statist and bureaucratic now, invasive with every facet of life. Red tape ad infinitum for any transaction or inquiry.
And even more complicated trying to deal with government bureaucrats in English.
Most are bilingual, but only comunicate in English reluctantly.
Yet there still a weird dynamic between the provincial government and the federal government. Quebec takes every opportunity to show their independence from Ottawa, and making arguments for separation. If they could embarrass Ottawa they would do it to suit their agenda.
However, in the Covid issue they are totally in sync and compliant. Hopefully their trucker spokespeople are charismatic. Quebecers love charismatic figures. Former Premiers Lucien Bouchard and Rene Levesque were master orators, and treated like gods. And they support Trudeau because of ethnicity and family history as well as sweetheart favoritism.
Quebecers can be swayed by personality, a compelling narrative, and appeal to the community. If the truckers can be portrayed as underdogs with a worthy cause they may evoke sympathy. But again, everything is filtered through the MSM of the province. And some of the worst are the few remaining English legacy media. Particularly the Montreal Gazette. Who were noxious cowards and appeasers during the separatist conflicts. And one of their worst employees is the draft dodging American, Jack Todd.
I wouldn’t be too optimistic of effecting real change in Quebec, but they are a wild card that may go in an unexpected direction.
Again, the key is charismatic leadership. And smart.
I DID hear talk, during the first truckers presser. They said they were actually getting good support from Q truckers, and people in the street.
They commented on hugging/embracing, which I gather is unusual?
And the Truckers have a very charismatic speaker, probably more than one, and a compelling narrative.
So, lets hope there is support from Q?

Agree here as well. Always loved the winter Olympics but I feel that anyone that watches this years Olympics in China is a traitor to our country. The Chinese govt, in my opinion, are responsible for the killing of millions of people around the world because of a virus they made in their country. After that, it lost its magic and became just another sporting event. And the endless human-interest stories that became the bulk of Olympic programming. I personally didn’t care that the athlete’s father was a mailman, or that his mother was a coalminer, or that he had to walk 8 miles to school, in a blizzard, uphill both ways, while carrying his siblings’ books and tutoring them after school, while mucking out the horse barn…

So, I went grocery shopping today; just to grab a few things. Did my shopping, walked outside and there was a mother with a toddler, maybe 3 years old.
Mum was trying to put a mask on the little girl, but the toddler kept turning her head away and saying ‘don’t mummy’.
So what does mum do?
Points a stern finger at her child and says: “if you don’t wear this mummy and daddy will get very sick and might die. You don’t want to make mummy sick, do you?”
I had absolutely no idea what to say. As I walked away I wondered just how many children have been told something similar by selfish, moronic parents.

Judge Steven Merryday ruled that the service members would likely prevail on the merits of the case, stating that the respective branches of the military have “wrongfully denied” their religious exemptions.
The judge also ruled that unless the military presents better legal defense than it has thus far, the court is likely to rule the same way and expand his order.

The Stock Market made a 50% price retracement commencing Tuesday January 25th. This is a typical Bear Rally in an overall Bear Market. A close next week below 33,700 will confirm we are in a Bear Stock Market.
They can only manipulate so much for so long. However, nothing can ultimately stop market direction up or down. It has been this way since before Jesus. It is why IMO, people who listen to guru’s, pundits and talking-heads are most always doomed in the end.
There are lots of things to consider if we are in a bear market. Typically, a bear represents a 20% drop in the market. A 33700 close as you state represents only about a 10% from the all-time 2022 high, so that wouldn’t be classified as a bear market typically.
Bear market usually has a time duration. So if the market drops 20% from the all-time high and then the recovery starts the next day and the recovery is sustained in subsequent days and weeks, then on the heels of that, you have a bull market which makes the bear a nothingburger.
A bear market can also be measured by the S&P, not just the DOW.
As of this writing, the DOW just broke below 35k, S&P is down a half a point. The market is way overvalued. Stuff does up and then down, then back up. People understand that when they invest in the market.
Headline control and super computer based trading are fascinating creatures if one has the money to drive the panic up or down as needed.
These are topics that the very smart folks at the Major Investing Firms handling their models avoid discussing at all costs.

Good morning CTH. Tonight we leave for Ottawa, but the preparation for the trip started days ago. Last night we went shopping for things that would be needed for the trip. I reached out to the leader of our convoy rep and asked what they most desperately needed.
“Prayers and Diesel”, he said.
“I can take care of both”, I replied.
So, at 8:30 last night I drove through a blizzard out to my dad’s house to pick up a large diesel tank. My wife and are taking others up in our seven passenger vehicle, so I had to arrange to have the diesel tank pulled from my work pickup, to someone else’s truck.
Another two trucks and trailers loaded with with gear are leaving tonight. Trailer two will contain diesel. They will stop at my place and pick it up, while I follow in our car. My dad handed me money as we walked out the door and said to fill her up.
A sobering experience happened yesterday. Friends of ours who promised to not get vaxed, caved and are all in on the vax now. They did the kids so that they could travel. The kids came to our house yesterday for a visit, and described how they were out busy renewing their passport photos. It saddened me to see how oblivious they were to the enormous stress that we carry each day.
But, trudging through the snow at my dad’s house with my truck backed up to his barn, and connecting chains to the loader of the tractor so that we could get the tank into my truck, I contemplated again on their worries about preparing for a trip to who knows where, against my stress and worry as I helped to prepare for my little efforts to stock the convoy with diesel.
Folks, there is a joy in life when you are part of something noble, that can not be replaced by joy of travelling or going to restaurants or the gym. I know that if any of your were here, you would be trudging through the snow shoulder to shoulder with us. I know it because you have the same spirit. The spirit of a true patriot is rare. Very rare.
