This always brings tears of hope and joy! I will also listen to the version of Hallelujah sung by the two Canadian sisters. Although mostly heard at Easter, it is my reminder of the reason for my Saviour’s birth.

A beautiful song, that touches the heart. A child was born in a manger, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
To our treeper families in Australia, you are always in our prayers.

That is beautifully put together and presented. Wow.
Something done that is that well-prepared has a powerful impact on the ones presenting it–not just on the audience.
Seeing the little children vignettes reminded me about the little Sunday School programs in our country church on the prairie in the early 1950s, when I was 6, 7, 8; my brother was 8, 9, 10….we would memorize our lines and memorize little songs to be sung at a certain point.
The lighting in the church was low, mostly candles. If it was below zero as it easily could be, the floor of the sanctuary never got warmed through by the good furnace…once a building is frozen clear through, it takes awhile for the furnace to get the job done that way. So all of the girls, in our pretty Christmas dresses, would have cold legs above the anklets, unless we had been dressed in the thick cotton stockings that required a little garter belt to hold them up. In other words, we would never have worn pants to keep warm: must be as pretty as we could be for the program.
Our Sunday school, from grades 1-8, probably never numbered more than 25 total, so the individual “classes” were sometimes combined for the song we learned.
At the end of the program, everyone was glad to head out into the night and return to their warm farm homes. On the way out the door, each child would be handed a small paper bag that would have in it a few pieces of hard ribbon candy, a coupple of chocolate pieces, and a piece of fruit. Such good memories.
This is one of the first songs I learned for a program like that:
Sharon: I am 52 years old and we sang “oh come little children” as young children. The song is alive and well and very loved in German-speaking countries (“Ihr Kinderlein Kommet”
Merry Christmas!

Jesus was totally defenceless when he left Heaven to become a man.

Menagerie, such a lovely contribution.
Not everyone can celebrate a “merry” Christmas. People are hurting.
This song brings it all down to what matters. What gives us hope and faith. What gives us the strength to carry on, and hopefully spread the word.

I couldn’t find a video of real children singing. I don’t suppose it’s used much any more.
