Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

I mean that some wonderful person is going to bring you into their home, love you, and take care of all your special needs from genetic abnormalities. And not only that, but it’s going to happen on Christmas Day, so get ready!
I had one of those and he stole my heart.
A kitty can do that with one wide-eyed look.
Boom! You’re gone!
Oh, Hi Sarah!
Glad you’re back!
Good morn, Mr F!
Good evening blessed Bet (not Midler).
She makes me shriek.
You make me smile.
What a gentleman you are, Frank. Thank you😊
I have family here! 🙂
I’ll be in and out for awhile as I have some pressing affairs to deal with. If I’m gone, I’ve not “evaporated” (loved your word), just things that need to be tended to.
If I don’t get back before Christmas, have a glorious Christmas!
I kinda feel like CTH, Treepers, Sundance and admins are already a giant Christmas present and I wish all of the a great, life-giving Christmas in the face of darkness we are all dealing with!
Good afternoon, Solomon! Just in case, Merry Christmas!
TY!
Appreciate that very much.
It will be a bit of a painful Christmas, but hey, still vertical and still here with wonderful family. (You of CTH!)
Wish I could be this close to some others of my blood family. But I do have one angel in my family!
Thank you for your care and prayer. I treasure it.
Solomon, 3 hours late, but I did answer you on the Cruz thread.
Grace to you and Merry Christmas!
Thank you, good brother and friend.
Kind of emotional about the love manifest here among our branches and limbs.
Sometimes I feel like a twig, but at least it’s God and CTH’s healthy twig.
I’m content as such!
Grace and Merry Christmas back to you and all here!
🎄🎄🎄
Good morning, Solomon! I know the day will be a good one, because here you are!
Good afternoon, Betsy!
If your vertical, it’s a good day!
Merry, great Christmas.
I am in that position, thankfully. And you are correct, Solomon. I am most grateful that I am, because no one knows where she nor he will be tomorrow. I’m praying for resurgent good health for you. 🙏
I wish you for you a peaceful and pain free Christmas. I know that’s a tall order but there is no harm in asking. In my best limited Welsh Nadolig Llawen to you as we welcome our Lord with joy and with hopes that those who do not know Him yet will be awakened in the New Year.
Amen sis!❗️✝️❗️👀
From my heart.
When you make friends with a kitten you’ve made a friend for life
On its terms though😉… And I’m perfectly fine with that. All our many moggies (Britspeak for cats) set various terms of engagement, and we complied with each. Peace, harmony, and love reigned because we are nothing if not flexible.
Yes, as long as you obey! 😉
Yes indeed, that’s a claws in the contract😉.
Oh what a great play on words! 🤣
Btw, I told Frank I’ll be in and out at times tending to business per needed.
So if I am gone a few days here and there, I’m not “gone” from here, so no worries.
That, and still trying to heal and recover from the incident a couple of weeks ago.
It’s a balancing act for sure, but I am stubborn as a mule.
Also, when I can, I am going to post a 3 part parody series.
The Obnoxious Dictate
Somebody way high up of late I sent this to told me that that series was good enough to be in The Screwtape Letters.
When I can, I’ll post it on the open thread. Most here will get it.
Again, Merry and Joyous Christmas.
❤
Ha! You and Mungrel! I will look forward to that😊 .
I caught elsewhere from you that you’d be in and out. My prayers were answered when I knew you were back and I’m so grateful. I’ll keep an eye out for you. I’m so glad you have family and at least one special angel. Bless her heart mightily.
You take care, try to take it as easy as you can and know I do wish you a Merry Christmas and all the peace that passeth understanding. I think we are going to need all the Help we can get until the SC rules. And, yes, I capitalized that word deliberately. It’s in His hands.
All the best, Solomon💓 I’m so glad you’re back home here.
Hi there. Good to see you here on the CTH Open Thread – the sane side of the world!
Hi back!
Not only sane, but comfortable and assuring!
Merry, wonderful Christmas!
Good morning, Solomon, to you and the whole gang.
Good morning, GrandpaM, on your first day of the next chapter in your life. Did you wake up and think you were late for work?😊
Good morning, Betsy. I’m smiling, no I didn’t think that I was late for work because I haven’t had to clock in for since 1990. Just the nature of the work I’ve been in and having your own business. But our male cat woke me up early really upset that no one has fed him, yet.
Have a blessed day. I am hanging out with the carpet cleaners before I take them to my parents house. They are doing a great job. My DW is very happy and if she’s happy I am, too.
Haha!! Bless him. You can’t ignore a hungry cat for sure. I have an internal clock that is pretty reliable. But for some reason this year the time switch over has played havoc with it. Usually about a week is all I need to get in sync. I am still not there. By the time I am, it’ll be time to switch back. Oh woe is me!
The past 3 months when I was partially retired I discovered that I can sleep until 8 AM. Waking and going back to sleep, of course, but knowing that it ain’t my circus and ain’t my monkey does miracles for a peaceful sleep.
One less thing to cross of your to do list. I’m sure the relief is immense.
I can relate in some ways.
But I love the pressures of being self employed.
I can’t imagine not working. But I’m only 18 going on 63 if I make it to the end of May.
Hope I’m not getting too personal…do you have specific plans for your new schedule?
Sincere congratulations.
63?? I’m old enough to be your very much older sister!😉
LOL! So I’ll join you to be his older brother! 😁 but not too very much older!
Just got back from HEB, Frank and saw your post. No, no specific plans but helping my parents, esp. step-dad has some serious health challenges, and helping my wife take care of my sister-in-law. Other than that my new work shop building arrives mid January and my plan is to get very deep into reloading.
Would like to start traveling again but maybe for now some shorter car trips when we can.
I am just a couple of years older than you but it’s not the age it’s the mileage :).
And hopefully spend more time with the grands.
Niiiiiice.
We should have a Treeper conclave.
Question: Can you say threshing sledge super fast five times without getting tongue tied?
Well it’s now good afternoon for me.
We are a gang, aren’t we?
But a good one!
G, have a great Christmas and begin to enjoy the gift of retirement with you and yours!
Just replied to one of your posts above, have a Merry Wonderful Painfree Christmas!
Got it and appreciate it!
You’re a treasure here! 🙂
Thinking of “today”, thinking of “now”:
2 Cor. 6:2 (cf. Isaiah 49:8)
“For He says: “In the acceptable time I listened to you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.” Behold, now is the time of favor; behold, now is the day of salvation.
Isaiah 55:6-7
“Seek the LORD to while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the LORD, and He will have mercy on them, and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.”
Hebrews 3:15a (cf. Psalms 95:7-8)
“As it has been said: “If today you hear His voice, harden not your hearts…”
Revelation 22:17 (cf. Isaiah 55:1)
“The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” Let the one who hears say, “Come!” And let the one who is thirsty come, and the one who desires the water of life drink freely.”
—
Thinking of why:
Romans 6:23
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
John 3:16
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
Romans 5:8
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
John 5:24
“Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not come under judgment. Indeed, he has crossed over from death to life.”
—
Thinking of how:
Luke 18:13
“And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his chest, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’”
James 4:8a
“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.”
John 6:28-29
“Therefore they said to Him, “What must we do, that we may be doing the works of God?” Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you should believe in Him whom He has sent.””
Mark 9:24b
“‘Lord, I believe; help my unbelief.'”
Acts 16:30-31
“Then he brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, you and your household.””
“Revelation 22:17 (cf. Isaiah 55:1)”
“The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” Let the one who hears say, “Come!” And let the one who is thirsty come, and the one who desires the water of life drink freely.”
Thank you TMonroe! This passage immediately brought up a song I’ve listened to for years so sharing ~ I hope that you enjoy it as I do!
Beautiful accompaniment to tm’s passage ❤️
I enter the Spirit as I listen…
The Rankins: Bells.
Ha! Just saw FDR’s post. I guess bells were in the air tonight!
Too bad dumbbells are on the air every night!
I was about 6-10 yrs old when last I heard this !
There’s another song in the Snoopy genra that was very famous at the time, I’ll try to think about it and see how good my memory is !
Cheers.
Here you go.
That’s it, Cheers, did you know that is was an Aussie that shot down the Red Barron, a trench shot from a Lee Enfield 303.
They held Von Rick in such high respect they buried him with military honour and sent an envoy with his belongings to the German side.
Chivalry I think.
That is probably correct, though who actually got him will always be disputed.
BTW, He got the majority of his kills flying an Albatross and not the Dr. III triplane he is most associated with.
I have one of those (the 303 Enfield) and from the same period. I love how it operates.
They’re heavy!
Saw my first one back in Sparks, Nevada. I was about 12…gearing up for my first Mule Deer hunt.
My neighbor had one…killed a buck with original open sight setup.
Niiiiiice
Those open sights are pretty accurate.
As do I. 1918 model, which according to the armory stamps, was issued probably issued for both World Wars. Got the bayonet with scabbard also.
No bayonet here. Over 20 years ago one of the sports chains had a load of Enfields and Swedish Mausers 6.5X55. Got one of each. They cost $100 each. Of course, at the time you could by a lot more with a hundred bucks.
When I bought the rifles I made them look at the year on the Mauser and mine is from 1905. Don’t remember the year on the Enfield, will have to look tomorrow.
BTW, my grandfather whom I’m named after was in WWI. Had some great stories that I loved to listen to over and over as a small kid.
Niiiiiice
Here are some other bells for you. A blast from my childhood past.
Snoopy was a favorite of mine growing up also.
Love this!
Such purity. Thanks, Sara. 🙂
Yes, purity is a great word for her voice and the arrangement of the song. My favorite part is the very end when she sings the word “bells” for the last time and her voice sounds like a bell the way the notes fall and because of the quality of her voice.
Here’s an early Rankin family video that I especially like. They do some step dancing and then there’s a brief candid shot of a fisherman dancing on the deck of his boat. I don’t think he was part of their performance. Made me want to move to Cape Breton.
Love it!!!!!!!!! Pure, free, unabashed, joy!!!!! And such an utter lack of pretension. (Had no idea these gals did Irish dancing! Love that, too!!!) Now, speaking of the Rankin family and fisherman, back at you:
Singing la, la, lalalalaaaaaaa….!
Wp- thanks for the reminder to take all the prescription G0d wrote for me. Reminder to self- don’t skip a dose 😎
Good morning, Cat. 😊
And a GLORIOUS Day to you✝️
🤗
🙏
When I saw the sinfulness of my sin, I found His grace absolutely irresistible.
Amazing grace…just amazing. 🙏
Your beautiful personal witness reminds me of this, outside a church of unknown location.
“Trying to hurt me by bringing up my past is like trying to rob my old house. I don’t live there anymore.”
Blessings to you.
I’m saving this one 😉
It’s so simple. There is power in simplicity I think.
Betsy, you’ve got a whole treasure trove of these. Yesterday the one about the Pavlov’s dog and now this. May I steal this one, too 🙂
Please be my guest!! When I see them I save them, knowing there absolutely will be somewhere appropriate I can drop them. This one made an impact on me. Yesterday’s keeps me smiling and laughing. Steal away!😊
Bone crushing joy.
😊💓🙏!!
🙏🏻 ✝️ 🙏🏻 , thank you W_P!
🙏
These selections are from a Windham Hill Winter’s Solstice LP from, I guess the late 80’s or early 90’s. Since this is Solstice eve, it seems to post a few selections.
I first hear a Windham Hill recording and was immediately struck by the remarkable quality of both the recording quality and the consummate talent of musicians I’d never heard before. I came to realize that Windham Hill recording were very special events.
Wil Ackerman, the owner of the label, was never completely happy with the term “New Age” that was associated with his productions. I think he felt the term trivialized what he was trying to do. Nonetheless, the name stuck. Years later when we listen to these musical selections we can appreciate the good taste Ackerman brought to our musical world. This is musical magic. Enjoy, Treeper friends on this Solstice eve. 🙂

What you wrote was really interesting about some of the backstory of this vision and label. I remember quite vividly how it was considered rather low brow to find this music beautiful and feeling like I had to buck against that message that, as you say, “stuck.” I used to own so many of their LP’s and found the music so lovely, delicate, and evocative. It’s been really great having you post some of their work. (Dunno why the links didn’t just open into the youtube images…) Gonna go copy and paste now, sit back, close my eyes, and enjoy….)
Much of what Ackerman did was rooted in the period. I think he was pretty much unique in this. He sold the label for millions and moved to Windham Hill in Vermont were he operates a recording studio. Sadly, the sale of the label left his musicians high and dry—he’d brought them together, given them a chance to shine, and then . . . just left. Many never recovered. That’s the nature of the music business, I guess. Still, I think it’s sad. What is left behind are these remarkable recordings.
Wow, what a sad ending to something so beautiful. As you say, I guess it’s the nature of business. I’d even take it a step further and say it can be the nature of life. Celebrate, embrace, and be grateful for the blessings in the moment, because anything can change in a heartbeat and/or slowly over time. And it does.
Ooohhhhhhhh, this is so delightful! I love how 3/4 time can be very hypnotic. Always circular. That waltz-like feeling. Makes me want to spin and then spin in a larger circle. (But don’t anyone try this at home!!!! Hahahaha!)
🙂 And, also, Ackerman loved to use alternate tunings in his music.
What are “alternate tunings?” I presume it has to do w/how any given instrument is tuned, but what’s the end result? I can’t imagine the effect. Not quite like minor key (cause you can just play in minor key), not quite dissonance (cause you can just play something dissonant), not quite change in octave (cause you can change octaves). But who knows. I am very curious about this and if you see this and have the time and inclination, please explain. I’m intrigued and want to learn.
Sarah, alternate tuning allows the guitar’s voice to change to a different sound. The goal is to do this without inducing dissonance. For instance a simple alternate tuning is accomplished by tuning the top (6th) string down to D. The resulting lower bass note produces a different but still very attractive and complementary sound. When classical guitars play music written for lute they usually use a D tuning to emulate the lower bass strings of a lute. Here’s a brief example of alternate tuning. Will has tuned the top string to D and induces different tunings with the capo.
Thank you so much for explaining that. Very interesting. It sounds like it’s only used for guitars, no? Not other string instruments or pianos?
That video was wonderful to watch…
A hauntingly beautiful, stark, siren song. Connie Dover, the artist who sings it, posted this below the video:
I took these photographs inside of Yellowstone National Park, where (in my other life) I cook at a winter camp near the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River. My friend Gehrig Fry created this video of the photos set to my song, “Last Night by the River”, adapted from a Shoshone love poem. Portrait photographs added are by Gehrig Fry, and landscape photos outside of Yellowstone are by Gehrig Fry and Anette Dunshee. Thank you both. Yellowstone in winter is a wild and austerely beautiful place. It’s interesting that the union of music and landscape can elicit a powerful emotional response that feels drawn from something greater than the sum of its parts.
Wonderful photographs – very stark. Very cold. The farm I grew up on looked like that (in terms of the stark beauty and the cold)….about 500 miles north of Yellowstone Park. I think the Sioux were residents of that extreme NE area of Montana.
I’ve free chase hunted in the Little Belt Mountains.
If you got lost, you might not be found til Spring.
Beautiful. Sounds like you had a great place to grow up! Still in Montana?
No, unfortunately!
I was the youngest of 7. My dad died when I was 17, the farm was sold, all six siblings were literally scattered to the four winds around the world and, at that time, “staying in Montana” just wasn’t a noticed option.
Beautiful, Sarah lee. Thanks for posting. 🙂
I read they were going to relocate or cull some of the Bison from Yellowstone. I hope that if they culled some they butchered them and provided the meat to the needy.
Hmm. I had no idea about this and your comment got me curious. It seems to be an issue that is ongoing.
2016: https://www.hcn.org/articles/the-science-behind-yellowstones-bison-cull
2017: https://www.yellowstonepark.com/park/conservation/culling-last-wild-herd-bison/
2021: https://jacksonholeradio.com/2021/12/900-bison-to-be-culled-from-yellowstone-herd/
Quite ironic skimming the plethora of articles out there as there seems to be an issue with a virus and the word quarantine comes up a lot.
Run reindeer run…
If I can say…
And greatly apologize for not getting Frank’s ruse and ode right a few days ago…
Friends, I am truly sorry I missed the joke and ode to Garrison who is one of those music and spiritual voices I always looked for on this thread.
If I can have a minute here to explain…
Frank and I talked about our past problems with anger.
I got halfway into Franks video and it just hit me hard about my own anger issues. True, things and some not so good people drove me to it, but that’s still no excuse.
Yes, I have destroyed 1000s of dollars of stuff, sometimes for good reason and some really bad stuff I couldn’t get away from.
At that halfway point in the video, I saw myself beating my hands and I lost notion of Frank’s video being a humorous ruse.
That’s on me, not Frank or Garrison.
Garrison, if you read this, please accept my sincerest apology.
I chose to leave rather than have you leave.
It’s why I left.
You’ve been here longer than me.
I am so sorry I injured you.
I just missed it and wept before God for doing so.
You are one of the most precious and beloved people here. You offer music, but also great spiritual wisdom.
I respect you for both.
Please forgive me for my error.
You are a true brother!
Solomon……please, let this be the last of it. I think everyone has received your message by now.
Okay. Thank you.
Just know. I love these people here with a passion not many people in other countries get to enjoy.
But I’ll take your advice and thank you for your kindness, and wishing you and all here a very best Merry Christmas! And hopefully a better New Year.
Solomon, I’ve always felt it takes a lot of courage and a humble soul to sincerely apologize. I was not involved in the episode which you speak of, but I understood it was based on a misunderstanding regretted by all. And these things do happen.
You’ve drawn a line under it, and you are back where you belong. There is thanks to be given for that.
I hope that as the days pass you are in less and less pain. I know of your multiple underlying physical issues which don’t help. Just praying that this dreadful episode for you resolves quickly. God bless, as always… B
Ad rem,
This last Sunday Frank and I were discussing the Civil and Revolutionary Wars following rah’s discussion of Lincoln visiting the heavy artillery around Washington. Two of my comments went to moderation and never came out. I didn’t swear one bit. If you see them floating around please unbin them so we can continue our discussion. Thanks.
merrie
I seem to remember that was about the time the site had a problem.
you are up late, Rah. only 1:25 here by the ocean. daughter had a fainting fit last nightand is 600 miles away. so prayers up for her. some sort of blood coagualation problem.
Slept and woke early. Prayer done.
🙏
Please keep us in the loop! I echo rah. ❗️🙏❗️
I’ll lend mine, merrie🙏🙏🙏
My daughter years ago had life threatening clots. I know how worried you are. But not be able to be with her? I understand what that feels like. God is beside her.
From one mother to another, they are always our little girls. May He, the Great Healer, bless her and make her whole once more.
Prayers up, merrie!
Merrie… I found both of your past comments in our bin. It appears our spam filtering system “Akismet” made a false positive match with something that was on our blacklist, and thus, disallowed posting.
Here’s what it looks like when I check the “comment history”…
Sorry for the inconvenience. 🙁
Merry Christmas Ad Rem🎄🙂
Thank you FC! And likewise to you and yours….. v
❤️. You all are the best kind of friends anyone could have especially during times such as these. To me, it’s like a family I never knew(only child here) and I love each and every one of you. Sundance sure knows how to make a family❣️
Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and here’s hoping we set off a huge fireworks display starting on New Year’s Day😉
A very special wish for you Ad Rem for your kindness, patience, and humor. Thank you. I could learn a lot from you and I do. 😘
Ps love your hat
Whoever thinks that virtual warm hugs can’t be felt doesn’t know this place. Beautiful,Cat.
A big Amen to that!
😘 😘 😘
DITTO–CTH is an island of positiveness in a sea of crap…contribute accordingly…
Agreed. There’s no point in keeping score. Merry Christmas, Solomon.
Bless you, Garrison.
Thank you for your generous kindness. You have a big heart. I see it all the time here.
Merry and glorious Christmas spirit of peace and joy for you and yours.
Glad were not in a football game where you have to keep score. 😉
👍
22 December 1958
After just two weeks on the Billboard Pop chart, “The Chipmunk Song” was the number one tune in the US. It’s creator, David Seville (Ross Bagdasarian), named the Chipmunks Alvin, Simon and Theodore, after executives at Liberty Records.
22 December 1962
The Tornadoes became the first British group to have a number 1 record in the US when they hit the top with their instrumental, “Telstar”. The song was named after the world’s first communication satellite launched by the US earlier in the year
22 December 1979
Former studio musician Rupert Holmes had the last number one record of the seventies with “Escape” (The Pina Colada Song). The tune stayed at the top for two weeks and the follow-up, “Him”, also made the Top 10. Holmes had previously done studio work for The Drifters, The Platters and Gene Pitney.
I used to listen to Telstar on my transistor radio. I loved anything “space age”. I remember as a kid going outside and seeing the first communications satellite, Echo 1, crossing the night sky. A huge thrill. Echo was a metallic balloon that reflected radio signals. I seem to recall that the 45 of Telstar listed “The Telstars” as the artist. This is the first time I’ve ever heard that it was The Tornadoes. And they were British! So this revelation rocked my world
Great story!
(Oops. Posted on the wrong thread.)
Elon Musk interview on Babylon Bee today. Seriously. Musk discussed woke culture as a way for mean people to have an excuse for being mean.
What interested me was his take on solar power and the huge batteries needed “because the sun isn’t always shining.”
but that is not true. The sun IS always shining on our planet – somewhere. and some places are hot when other places are cold. today’s solar and wind technology is dark ages. someone someday will figure how to bounce the sun’s energy around. should be easier than bouncing radio waves. maybe satelites???
anyway it is an interesting video. just thought I’d share
Isn’t the Babylon Bee a parody site?
While it is a parody site, this is a real interview.
Yes–but Musk was on fire…he can be very funny…knows the world needs to look at itself and laugh a little
May I ask for somebody to post Marlene Deitrich singing “Johnny”
Sure. Happy to oblige:
Studio recording
Live performance
brings back so many memories. thank you Sarah Lee
My pleasure. Anytime you have a request, post a comment. If I see it, I’ll do my best to find it and post it for you. I’m confident many others would do the same. (It was fun finding these because I had never heard Dietrich sing anything in my life, even though of course I’m well aware of the name, so you exposed me to something new and I loved it!)
any chance you can post “Peter”
While your in request mode, in my musical military history I discovered that the only song cherished by foes alike was Marlene Dietrichs ” Lilia Marlene”
Vera Lynne also sung this song, Both versions were played by the old vets I grew up with , I still think to this day the hauntingly beautiful German sang is the better.
I did not understand until I became a man why .
Good morning, dear Mungrel 🤗.
I remember Marlene singing a short song in “Witness for the Prosecution” long ago. She was sultry, I thought.
Well now I can say,Good Morning as it is 1 am here.
Sultry you are spot on, my point is though soldiers that had no other objective from both sides other than to kill each other found the common ground of love or the yearning of a woman whether it be lover, sister or mother in a song.
I know of no other in the trenches real people’s fighting in any war of another example of unity .
And I get called crazy for stating ” the most powerful force in the universe is love ” ! Maybe I should add the concermation of man and woman or God given universe , I really don’t know, but the fact is other than selfish love the real love between a man and a woman can conquer all.
Is not God love !
It can. Because it is God given, I believe. No need for dissection on my behalf. And it is a fundamental human need as well. It is why babies in orphanages deprived of human touch fail to thrive, as happened and happens frequently in war torn countries. But enough of those thoughts.
Marlene was iconic for the time she lived. You mention Dame Vera Lynne who just passed away. A symbol for tough times. A simple voice whose singing uplifted a nation fighting for its life. Neither will be forgotten.
A few years ago, reading a history of WWII in the western desert, I came across commentary about the universal popularity of Lili Marlene. Seems the Germans had a radio station in Belgrade that beamed the song to Africa where both allies and German troops could listen to it.
Hi Garrison, because Lili Marlene was a German song it was on the list of the banned songs by the commies in the Eastern European country I grew up in. Just for that one reason when I ran into the English version I made sure to record a copy and listened to it quite often. It was also sung in the local language before the Russians ran over the place and installed their commie puppet regime.
Still remember the first two lines.
As a matter of fact I may ask my Mom to sing it. She ought to remember it.
How many languages does your mom know?
I’ll bet you both can share some stories!?!
Good evening dear Treeper
Good evening, deer friend! Her native one, and a little English, a little German, and a touch of Russian.
Hey!
Mungrel!
Any updates on detention camp and the jab police?
Go with God dear friend.
Certainly have, don’t worry about the camps, there are no large scale Nazi type roundups , they are just flexing the narrative in keeping with the plan, yes some have been “quarantined” but the whole thing on that side is failing .
Protests have consistently been ongoing even though the crowds are smaller.
The good news is the cops are not enforcing a lot of the mandates and seem to be moving on to the Patriots side , it is confirmed that the army will not intervene other than a security roll.
The division tryed by the commies in the vaxed versus unvaxed is a complete failure.
Everybody is in waiting mode as Christmas is a time here where everyone celebrates whether Christian or not.
Dictator Dan was warned in no uncertain terms what would happen if he shut Christmas down !!!
There is a more important front that the commies are attacking , that’s the food chain, I already warned about this side of things and will make a detailed post about this soon.
I am trying not to post negative over Christmas.
The Christian people here are standing up now more and more and God has been spoken about in public rallies which is something you never see here as faith is very much perceived as a personal matter, I have mentioned this aspect before here.
Another tick for mungrel is I managed to get the message out to my blackfella mob up North and they are refusing to take the “white fella” poison , meaning jab, there are so many now that Guv carnt do a Damn thing about it.
I expect Christmas to be calm and things to heat up a week or two later.
I will make a more detailed post tomorrow.
Santa comes tonight here and I hope he brings peace.
If not ………….!
Mungrel, they daren’t use food as a weapon surely! That’s a war crime, in case they didn’t know it. But then again you all are dealing with war criminals.
I’ve often wondered how this has all become so grotesque and cruel. I have wondered whether this could be the start of a much needed awakening to Christ. You of all people know we desperately need it. And I’m seeing many, as you have suddenly calling out to Him. Because in the end He is our help and our salvation. Something has to break the stranglehold Lucifer has on this world.
I’m so pleased you were able to convince your friends that they should stay away from these genocidal poisons. The mandates here are going to the Supreme Court, arguments for one hour on January 7. I’ve got to focus now on God’s mercy because if ruled constitutional, two of mine are moving targets, as well as millions more. If it is so ruled our Republic is dead. But that’s as far as I want to go now.
It’s Christmas! And we’ll spend it in thanking God for loving us so much that he sent His Son, our Saviour to be born. I’ll leave it here for now and get some shuteye. You take care friend. I’ll look for you tomorrow…LBT-Woomera

If there were a theme song of the Second World War in Europe, that would be it.
Yes unfortunately as it sounds so do I .
I see Bill Nye the lying guy is at it again.
https://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/brad-wilmouth/2021/12/21/cnn-lets-bill-nye-link-recent-tornadoes-global-warming-fossil
My theory is he has been putting his bow tie on too tight for all these years and is suffering from progressive encephalomalacia.
I get you.
According to the NOAA database there have been 1612 tornadoes in December since 1950, one for every December day for every year. Although devastating there was nothing unusual about these tornadoes. It’s important to have good data with which to refute these globalist tools like Nye, who is not a scientist, not even close. He blames fossil fuels. I see his point, no one used fossil fuels until a few years ago. Everybody knows that
If he was challenged to explain the meteorology, he would be exposed as the know nothing numbskull he is. This truck driver has forgotten more meteorology than he has ever known, and I am certain I would make him look like a fool in a one on one debate.

Ukraine roads sure better than the ones I drive.
Could be because they have few cars and no gas.
Why do they post an article about September 26 & 27, 2018 on September 28, 2021? Three year anniversary remembrance? Propaganda to stoke the flames of war?
Someone(s) want a war very badly. Whatever has to be done to get it will be done.
I have a son in law from the Ukraine. Bummer
Ruh roh😬
. . . but deliver us from the Evil One.

The Jesus Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy upon me, a sinner.
Prayer of Saint Ioannikios the Great of Bithynia (+ 846)
My hope is the Father, my refuge the Son, my protection the Holy Spirit. O Holy Trinity, glory to Thee.

THE DRAWING OF THE FATHER
“No man can come to Me, except the Father which hath sent Me draw him.” John vi. 44
When God draws me, the issue of my will comes in at once – will I react on the revelation which God gives – will I come to Him? Discussion on spiritual matters is an impertinence. Never discuss with anyone when God speaks. Belief is not an intellectual act; belief is a moral act whereby I deliberately commit myself. Will I dump myself down absolutely on God and transact on what He says? If I will, I shall find I am based on Reality that is as sure as God’s throne.
In preaching the gospel, always push an issue of will. Belief must be the WILL to believe. There must be a surrender of the will, not a surrender to persuasive power, a deliberate launching forth on God and on what He says until I am no longer confident in what I have done, I am confident only in God. The hindrance is that I will not trust God, but only my mental understanding. As far as feelings go, I must stake all blindly. I must WILL to believe, and this can never be done without a violent effort on my part to disassociate myself from my old ways of looking at things, and by putting myself right over on to Him.
Every man is made to reach out beyond his grasp. It is God who draws me, and my relationship to Him in the first place is a personal one, not an intellectual one. I am introduced into the relationship by the miracle of God and my own will to believe, then I begin to get an intelligent appreciation and understanding of the wonder of the transaction.

Forgot-good morning and have a Blessed Day🙂
Blessed day to you Cat ~ to you and your household! 🙏🙏🙏💐

Thank you Heavenly Father for sending Jesus Christ ~ that I might be rescued and saved!

I second that…💓💓 Oh my heart!
Mornin’ infidels!
Ha, ha, ha, nice, like , but come on admit it , you seen my post about pop first and are trying to stur me up !
I haven’t forgotten about your Aussie sling , don’t you worry about that 😒 !
….:over the fire place.
Goodaye Pop,
My reply to your question about your wayward son is on last OT , I suppose you’re “Partying up” now!
Some things never change!
Now it’s my turn to look after you as my third pop taught me 😜 !
So take it eeeaaasssyyy !
And on his first day of retirement, he’s having a lie in. Good for him.
LOL, Betsy, good morning, about to start moving furniture around for the carpet cleaners and then off to my parents’ house to do the same. Will check back here later.
Don’t do your back in, for heaven’s sake!!😬
Actually, the guys are moving the stuff by themselves pretty well. 🙂
Excellent!
Good morning, son, it was an easy night, I was the driver anyway, and I had to be good. Wifey enjoys just a glass of wine with her steak. We just celebrated my retirement so being a retired guy this morning I’ll have to get things ready for the carpet cleaners, so I’ll be back later and will read your reply from yesterday.
So your pop is in great shape this morning 😀 PTL!
Sh*t hot pop, I can go to bed with worries now 😝
Ha, ha. No worries. Just read your post from yesterday and now I’ll be a little less worried about you. Good night, see you tonight when it’s your morning.
Don’t know about Christmas eve though. We’ll have all the boys (our 2 sons and the son-in-law) and they all like after dinner to have cigars and single malt.
Johnny Walker Blue Label is really good. Kinda expensive as it has some 25 year old stuff in the mix.
👍
Ben Stein always refers to his wife with that same moniker. So glad you both enjoyed your evening out.
We had a great evening. The restaurant is about 30 miles away (we live in the boonies, you know) and our granddaughter works there when she is not busy with college. The food was great and we loved the chance to visit with her while she was working. Also, her brother’s (our grandson) girlfriend works there so we got to visit with her, too. Really sweet girl. She and our granddaughter have become good friends so my comment was that grandson is in deep trouble when those two gang up on him :).
And of course we shared a fine bottle of wine with our steaks. Just for taste enhancement.
Oh jolly good! Good food, good company, and good wine. There’s no way to improve on that. And kudos for your granddaughter working there as well. Working in a restaurant is very educational. Lots to learn about service well given and working with a public which in general doesn’t appreciate what it takes in that position. All 3 of mine held jobs like that in their teen and university years.
And I know its hard work. It’s why when we dine out, which is infrequently, we extra tip if the service is good. But we start out with big smiles and gracious words for any who serve us. We have observed others who have not even looked at those who wait on them, as if they weren’t human. And it is why we always tidy up before we leave, making sure our empty plates are stacked and whatever refuse (such as empty salt and pepper and sugar packets) plus napkins are not strewn about but are collected and placed…so those cleaning our table find it as easy as possible.
I hope our three grands will someday take jobs like this. We’ve schooled them in being thoughtful of those in those jobs, which they are. Now they need to see the other side as it were. It won’t hurt.
So very true, Betsy, same here. Working with the public all these years have taught us to always treat the people that are helping us with respect.
It’s just common decency. But too many have forgotten unfortunately.
Great family stuff!
🙂
It’s funny how, even with their eyes closed thy know where to find what the need.
The nose knows….
Yeah, kind of like the nose knows how great a glass of 1945 Mouton Rothschild Bordeaux smells like!
Beautiful!! A houseful.
Got a little snow up here in Newaygo. Enough to cover the asphalt.
Today I do 4 stops up here, Newaygo, two in Muskegon, and one in Holland, and then go to the Vandalia terminal, drop this trailer and hook to another that I take home to the Anderson terminal. Then done for the week.
God go with you, rah.
One way or another I know he always is. Should not be a problem as long as other drivers behave themselves.
Enjoy your time off!!
I’m interested, if you will forgive me for putting such a question to you, what your take is on that young driver sentenced to 110 year in prison for the accident in Colorado which saw 4 people lose their lives. Any answer or none will be fine.
I’m assuming you know about that big rig accident.
If it’s the idiot that cooked his brakes going down a hill and ran into a bunch of cars killing people, yea! Lock him up and throw away the key! I remember shortly after the accident he said he was afraid HE was going to die! Scumbag! And BTW, if that guy supposedly learned from one of the half assed operations that supposedly train drivers that we call “puppy mills”, I hope the DOT and NTSB, were up their rectums with a microscope. And then there is the company he was driving for.
Too many supposed training schools out there turning out half trained drivers.
Stay safe Treeper!
Good morning Treepers!
Goodaye Frank, your morning is my midnights,
I await the son so send the sun back 😀 !
👍 See above questions!
I’ll check back manana
Good morning Frank!
Good evening!
Good morning, Frank!
Good evening young man.
We’re youngsters til 85. Correct?
Sorry. No.

BE MY VOICE
BABY LIVES MATTER
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow, that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ.
AMEN.
There is an eternal path our world today full on ignores…
“Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.”
Jeremiah 6:16 KJV
My wife is now recovered from covid, she was sick. During, a pastor friend asked me, how are your souls? We remain in the Word was my reply.
How is your soul today?
Great question!
Hi FC, great question, indeed,
I remain in the Word. 👀😎
This I found written unknown on a scap piece of paper left in an old book l inherited, the book belonged to my great aunt, her husband never returned.
Keep the home fires burning,
Tho’ your hearts are yearning.
Tho’ the lads are far away,
They dream of home.
There’s a silver lining
Through the dark clouds shining
Turn the dark clouds inside out
Till the boys come home.
Her name was rose.
So beautiful. It so obviously touched Rose’s heart. So many broken into pieces during that dreadful time. Actually, Mungrel, those sound like lyrics which might belong to a song of that era. They are really ringing a bell for me. Very Vera Lynne.
Originally performed 1914 by Ivor Novello; lyrics were written by Lena Ford. A British WW1 song.
https://genius.com/Ivor-novello-keep-the-home-fires-burning-lyrics
Thank you!! I knew it was, and had a WWI connection. Just couldn’t pull those memories together.
Well there ya go, Thanks heaps, I tried off and on for yrs to see if it was a part of poem ! I was barking up the wrong tree obviously.
Rose was in her late 60s when I was a child , my memory of her is a very kind and humble woman, small in stature she would take both my hands with hers , bend down , and kiss my forehead , she allways had an air of sorrow to her though, it wasn’t till many yrs later that I understood why.
Once again much appreciated.
Cheers.
I have always thought our strongest childhood memories are of those who were kind to us. She must have loved you very much.
Great find!
And then there was I’ll Be Home For Christmas, that was popular when the ever optomistic were talking about the war being over before the Christmas of 1944. Then came the battle of the bulge, and the toughest battle fought in US Army history.
Reel America-1944 U.S. Army Newsreel – Bing video
I do not want to be a downer, but this happened and many a fine man was killed. Today as I drove homeward I listened to the testimonials from men, old men now, that as young men were lucky enough to survive that battle. Men who picked up pieces of their buddies and stuffed them in the field jacket the corpse still wore so that as much as the whole body as possible would be buried together. Every one of them carry the memories of what they saw and endured. And every one of them thought that that since they had survived when so many others had not, they owed a debt to live the best life they could and be productive and thrive when they got home. And then, when asked if it was worth it, every single one said it was. That Freedom was worth any price. And they talked of the flag, and what it stood for to them and that it was both a symbol of Freedom and the price that had been paid to remain free.
And the desperate fight they were in was going on this time of year during the coldest winter to hit Europe in 50 years. Every single one talked of the cold, and the fight to keep from being put out of action by the cold. They talked of waking up and having to take off their boots and rub their feet because there was ice between their toes.
BTW Okinawa was just as tough, but it was fought by the Army, USMC, and Navy.
Gut wrenching.
One day. Every single tear will be wiped away.
I love our lord Jesus, I enjoy every moment with his Holy Spirit, and his word.
I find no pleasure in Christmas anymore, I actually dread it.
The facts about Christ’s birth are much different than celebrated. (Also his life) Like an adopted child, you know something is different when you look at Christmas.
I’m not unique by any means, it’s not just the religious aspects or the commercial.
I’ve learned that denouncing yourself in anyway is not truthful. Some things, of course, don’t need to be confessed or said.
With God, The celebration of Jesus is fixed, within guidelines or truth, unique, purposeful, meaningful in every microcosm of its purpose. It is truth an absolute. An adventure or journey with God and his son.
Mans way is not. It is a fleeting destination that cannot ever be reached. It’s a twisted version of meaning, knowledge, understanding that leads to destruction.
And isn’t that in all of the worlds ideas without God?
Religion has its place. It fits here. How we ventured so far from facts I can only assume was veiled in consumer practicality, “the world.”
When my kids were young I was adamant about the worship of Christ on and before Christmas. Slowly it was dissolved and lost its place in our hearts. I’d rather not participate.
Those scriptures that demand your complete attention on God. It’s all protection not constraints. It’s life and it’s fullness, if you embrace. But, if you look back for just a moment at the world, you are unworthy.
Just like the mask and now vaccine, nobody wants to stand against the juggernaut of societal judgement.
Every aspect of our faith must be diminished for evil to sit on the throne. Just like, every aspect of this world must be denounced for God to sit on the throne of our heart.
It’s the foxes (the tiny bites) that ruins the vine.
Not new, ancient.
There is a plus side to celebrating an”alone Christmas” I think, Palerider, as we are doing and have done ever since we landed back on these shores. It gives us the solitude to focus on the birth of Christ and all the wondrous meaning of the delivery on part one of God’s promise and great love for us.
Unfortunately, much to my chagrin but of no surprise at all, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, has made the news and allowed himself to become a propagandist tool of the British government. He has given an interview in which he states that “Jesus would take the vaccine,” a piece of blasphemy that takes my breath away. He also says that doing so or not is not about personal choice but rather (insipid, banal and perversion of the phrase) an “act of love.” He, as so many others in the church have proven themselves are now servants of government rather than God. I find this extremely distressing as I was rearer in the sister of his supposed Anglicism, the Episcopal Church here.
So my celebration of Christmas has been refocused on what it should be. In the quiet of our home on the day itself, where I can, without interuption, praise His Holy Name for bestowing upon us the Greatest Gift of all…and rejoice in the knowledge of the meaning of it.
In spite of your stated feelings, I do wish for you a peaceful, reflective Christmas, perhaps with a bit of joy sprinkled in. Who knows. Such may take you by surprise. I hope so anyway🙏.
The Bible cautions against taking on the ways of this world, and instructs us to follow God’s Word.
You ARE worthy. You (and I and the rest of us) are SO worthy, in fact, that Christ voluntarily submitted to torture and died on the cross to forgive our sins. He thought us to be worthy of that sacrifice, the ultimate Grace Gift…
Only the Ruler of This World, via his soulless brainwashed minions, tries to diminish our faith. We have the volition, the free will choice to ignore that Evil Ruler and his minions here, and maintain and strengthen our personal faith. Christmas occurs every year to remind us of Christ’s incarnation on Earth, in this Kosmos, so that He could demonstrate His Father’s Plan and Love for us.
“Man’s way” has rarely ever followed what God commanded of us to do and how to live. But it means we keep trying.
The World “Health” Organization says today that it would be “best” for everybody if we all just cancel Christmas this year.
Besides being as offensive as that statement is, it is impossible to not see the subtext of that deliberate odious pronouncement. They fool no one.
I’m looking forward to God cancelling the WHO.
🙏🙏🙏!!!!
Could we add the UN !
Yes we can!!!!!!
I’m in, mate. Cancel it, tear the building down and salt the ground.

Good morning Solomon ☀️
Left you a message on your post time stamped:

Still learning tech stuff basically illiterate Hope I don’t send you on a wild goose chase❤️
Back to you Cat.
I appreciate you and your caring heart. Seems you have a meek spirit.
The meek shall inherit the earth!
Could you be one?
Absolutely!
Very Merry and wonderful Christmas and New Year.
Even if 2022 is projected to get worse, and it could, we have the higher (highest) hope in our God!
Hang on to that!
Meek. That’s a word my family would rotflmao upon hearing describing me. 😆
Someone said something to the effect.. do not mistake kindness for weakness
Imho, I’d wager that many here have that saying hanging on a wall, you included ❤️
A very Christmas to you and may our new year start off with all sorts of wonderful things🎁
Meek can be strong: Moses!
👍👍👍🙂
Yes, it’s on Twitter. I still want to share it.
CDC and NIH hold hundreds of vaccine patents. FDA 45% funded by big pharma.
The government is not protecting the people but is acting to enrich itself.
Dr David Martin outlined this early on in a brilliant interview with Reiner Fuellmich. They are both essentially patent factories.
That interview is still up somewhere, I think on Bitchute or Rumble.

Dead Reckoning land navigation in relatively featureless terrain.
Dead Reckoning is using a map, compass, pace count to navigate to your objective. Sometimes in mountainous terrain an altimeter is a better tool than a compass.
However in terrain where there are few features such as some deserts or tundra or even Great Plains, the program has to different.
If one doesn’t have a sextant for celestial navigation then then solo dead reckoning can be difficult because one is bound to wonder off the compass azimuth a bit at a time. The error is generally cumulative since most people tend to diverge slightly in the opposite direction from their dominant hand.
When in a group this can be prevented by sending a person or two forward on azimuth a good distance on to the horizon. The stationary navigator can stand and shoot a more accurate azimuth and direct the advanced party left or right or failing the ability to communicate with them, use their location as a reference to compensate for the error.
Try dead reckoning in a small sailboat on a calm sea during the daytime when the sun is heavily obscured by clouds. I’ve been there, before GPS technology was on the market. Depth gauge helped, compass was invaluable, but it was a rough guess at best. After land came into view I finally discovered I was about 6+ miles south of my intended destination….from about 80 miles offshore. 1o years later, GPS changed all that.
Great story. I’m betting you had a few adrenaline inducing moments on that trip.
Niiiiiice
I was 30+ years younger and looking back, given my limited blue water experience, maybe a bit overconfident of my navigation skills. But it all worked out.
No sun or stars and no horizon, and no reference points, then all you can do is trust your plot and compass and make sure your well away from shallow soundings I guess. Sooner or later the skies will clear.
Same thing flying an airplane. Compass heading, best guess wind speed, known airplane airspeed and time.
If your airplane is going 100 mph and flies for an hour you should travel 100 miles flying for 1 hour.
And, as with the sailboat, your likelihood of arriving at a specific point and on time depends on the wind.
I had a ‘trick’ question I loved to pose.
Say it takes 1 hour to fly to a point 50 miles away and return to base in a no-wind situation.
Then, add a 50 mile per hour wind and repeat the flight – wind aloft aligning with flight path.
Will the flight take more or less time for the round trip.
Student beams with pride – less time.
Wrong. You will fly into the wind for much longer than you will fly with the wind behind you.
And, of course, the longer the flight the greater the difference.
Ask any frequent flyer. Flying west to east takes lots less time than east to west – thank you jetstream.
Here’s one you might find interesting.
Most of Australia is covered by semi arid scrub, some places you can travel a thousand miles and the terrain is exactly the same, scrubby tree, rocks, ants, lizards and snakes yes, but it is all the same.
When it is “overcast ” it is impossible to tell compass points.
Many years ago as an “initiated ” man I was taken to an Aboriginal “Sacred site” by an “Elder” which is a term used for a Tribal Cheif here , a funny fella he was in allways stirring me up as I kept moving in the wrong direction , I knew we had to go north and normally I wouldn’t have a problem but it was “overcast” , this was a three day journey by foot.
After all my pestering he finally taught how to find “Direction”how simple is this – any fungi or moss always grows on the South side of a tree ! Ha .
And if not sure a bullant mound will always face east to west if you know how to read them !
I was also taught to “see” ants as a means to predict weather !
Another trick is burning a certain shrub to keep away the night bugs !
These learnings are invaluable if you are to survive in this country.
the way you write – your life sounds harsh
but OH SO FASCINATING
Love reading your posts
Mungrel is our very own Crocodile Dundee. 😊
In the movie – Crocodile Dundee was played by an actor
Mungrel is the real thing
And maybe also Quigley Down Under. 🙂
Love Tom Sellick
One of my favorite movies.
I can’t remember – that was based on fact, wasn’t it?
On the ocean you get two variables- wind AND ocean currents. So dead reckoning must include both vectors in your calculations for apparent forward speed and direction.
yah – no small feat
we had a portable sail on our canoe. sailed it on small lakes. not a lot of wind allowed – no ocean currents. lots of fun, tho. we put a life jacket with handle on our lab so if we ended up in the water we could get help from her dog paddle – and prevent her from scratching us while we attempted to recover.
years ago a pilot student of mine took me out on his sailboat on Lake Erie. that would have had some current – the water ended up at Niagara Falls after all – but I was to iggorant – didn’t know how he sailed it
I just thought about Mungrel’s post
you won’t find moss growing on trees on the ocean
no ants, either
maybe not even seagulls
and if the wind stops wind-ing all you have left is rowing, assuming you have oars
of drifting.
Bingo. Not a whole lot on the ocean to use as aids to navigation. Just flat water out to the horizon all 360 degrees around. Fortunately I was only 80 miles offshore, so roughly 8 hours of sailing got us within sight of the coastline. I had a 8.7 meter Columbia sloop with a 3,500 lb lead-filled keel, a very stable blue water sailer but hull speed was not quite 8 knots. But, no oars. 😉
gulp
I never could convince myself to love or even like flying over big stretches of water.
Even tho the airplane does not know it is over water – even tho the engine sounds the same – my head knows.
I have flown over desolate land. But it is LAND
An airplane can climb higher and maybe ‘see’ a landmark. Go high enough and you can see something – at least the flying I did.
You survivor types leave me gasping
https://www.breitbart.com/immigration/2021/12/22/pope-francis-no-country-can-exempt-itself-from-duty-to-take-in-migrants/
Says a man that lives in a city state with a big wall around it and who has personal elite soldiers to guard him.
There is certainly enough space, enough sovereignty ceded to the political entity, and enough financial backing for him and the entity to take in significant numbers of migrants. If there is a limit and it goes past the point of sustainability, why wouldn’t there be points of sustainability that can be exceeded for other political entities?
Yet instead, the coffers stay full (especially when Catholic charities can get public money worldwide for their migration infusion promotion efforts elsewhere), the space stays clear, and fingers appear to be pointed elsewhere? And they can set limits, but others can get vilified for doing so? How about that.
Definitions…what is the difference between migrants and invaders? (I would guess motivation.)
Then the country they live in has an equal duty to do so. They can “take in” their own citizens.
The country they live in before they migrate or after?
Depends on who is in power.
Aliens both.
Hi Leenie!
Since folks started off the morning with Snoopy the Red Baron, I figure I can slip this in to further start the day on an up note:
A story from the book of tragedies that didn’t happen
Two Aviation Terms apply to this post:
1. VFR – Visual Flight Rules. You might think of it as ‘see and avoid’. Regulations define how many miles visibility you must have and minimum cloud heights.
2. IFR – Instrument Flight Rules. When you can’t see to avoid other airplanes, mountains, tall towers and such, then you fly using the flight instruments and work with Air Traffic Controllers who ‘clear’ the airspace around you, assign safe headings and altitudes.
One quiet day at work in our General Aviation District Office (GADO) we got a call from an Air Traffic Controller at the Denver Airport. The only information we had was that a small airplane was endangering Commercial Air Traffic. So, another Inspector and I jumped in a car for the hour long drive to Stapleton (since moved and renamed).
By the time we got there the problem was over – but we were tasked with chasing down the pilot and taking action against him.
The story as it unfolded was this.
We had a joke re: IFR flight: I follow railroads, I follow rivers, I follow roads.
Seems this private pilot in a small single engine airplane was following I70 from the mountains to his home airport east of Stapleton. In typical Denver weather conditions there would be no problem. But on this day there was a low cloud condition that went from the mountains east. IFR (Instrument flight weather conditions) – low clouds, poor visibility.
The pilot had been following the highway – and weather in the mountains was beautifully clear. We later found out that the pilot landed on the highway (dodging bridge overpasses and endangering cars and trucks). He conferred with drivers, who then cleared the way for him to taxi under the bridges and clouds and take off again. (gulp)
Now, imagine if you will – I70 passes UNDER the north end of the primary take off runway. A sharp Air Traffic Controller spotted the airplane blip on radar and contacted the control tower folk (who then called us). They halted all Airline and IFR take off and landing traffic. Meanwhile they got the binoculars out and watched the wheels (stuck out below the clouds) pass by the runway. They then followed the plane on radar until it landed at an airport to the east of Stapleton.
The hold up was consequential – even in those days there was a lot of take off and landing activity at that airport.
Believe it or not, we were able to drive to the miscreant’s airport – found his plane (the cowling was still warm) – but were unable to do anything about the problem this pilot caused. Even if we traced the ownership we would not be able to prove who was flying the airplane. And, of course, no one would admit they had been flying. No one saw it land. No one saw the pilot emerge after flight.
I remember a Family Circus cartoon: broken lamp on floor – mad mom asking who did this? kids both say ‘not me’. Ghost floating nearby with sign on chest ‘Not Me’.
In retrospect the incident is funny. It sticks in my memory because of the air traffic controllers who did a great job preventing a major catastrophe.
Have a Blessed Wednesday before Christ – mas
Jeesh. Another great post
thanx
Rudolph …… Blast from the past…….
Oh, my gosh, Cactus!!!!! I fear you just “aged” yourself!!!! Thank you! That was fun!
Yup, in those days, we didn’t have NORAD tracking Santa’s flight…….
We all just listened real hard to see if we could hear him land on our roof at night…….of course, we all fell asleep before he got to our house……drats, maybe next year….
But, you could count on Ol’ Santa, he never disappointed us, he was able to find our house without a GPS.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Yup! Who needed NORAD? I’d get up all through Christmas Evenight and look out my bedroom window, up to the sky to see if I could see a sleigh!!!!! Magical!
Excellent. I recall seeing that in B&W on my parents’ early televisions in the ’50s. Don’t think I saw it in color until my kids were born in the ’70s.
Despite not having any technology like “CGI”, the cartoon artists & animators ‘back in the day’ did a fantastic job, manually, without any computers or printers.
Drafting joists on high rises, and the wooden kickers and steel pans for foundations like the Superdome, we didn’t have any of the modern stuff.
But we did have those awesome ball-bearing slides on your drafting desks. Didn’t have to worry if you didn’t get your t-square perfectly straight. Early 70s.
OSHA could be a bear. You couldn’t miss a joist connection by more than a 64th of an inch!
I understood their demand. Miss a few of those here and there, a skyscraper could come down.
This is why I understand some of the collapses in China.
Communists rush the job of building ahead of safety.
Believe it or not, the construction crew of the Superdome in New Orleans actually poured the concrete pillars without without rebar. I never figured how such a gross neglect was possible.
So they had to tear all that down. There were so many mistakes…it’s what drove the original projected cost so much higher.
All the beautiful music posted here leaves me wondering how a mind can create such beautiful sounds. Much as I love music, I have trouble remembering a particular melody – tho I instantly can identify a piece of music when it starts to play (the old brain may not be able to ‘name’ it, but I know the melody)
Today I am listening to King FM 98.1. They are playing Schumann’s Butterflies Op.2. – never heard it before.
I can imagine him looking at butterflies flying, landing, swarming, reacting to wind, flitting from flower to flower.
Would he be ‘composing’ in real time? This is a piano piece – following the butterflies with his fingers on the piano?
I can ‘see’ the butterflies flying
Is great music truly flowing from Heaven thru the ‘composer?
I absolutely believe it is, ms idaho. To me there is no question about it.
so – maybe – if i am good
maybe – if I’m allowed into Heaven
I’ll be allowed a harp – or??
and I will be allowed to play or sing those
beautiful notes?
Do you suppose one of the beautiful things about Heaven is Music?
It definitely is, ms idaho. 🙂
I often wonder if those whose music we’ve enjoyed down the ages (composers, conductors, instrumentalists, singers) are in heaven, or will be, honouring God Who’s musical blessings He bestowed on them. Celestial performances. I like to think so. How glorious would that be?💓 Your thoughts are mine.
we are of one mind.
But it is more than that (maybe)
I have never seen a painting that did more than offer a poor attempt to capture a sunrise or sunset.
Great artists try to capture bodies and faces, land and sea scapes – and, while the painting or drawing may be beautiful, it fails to capture reality.
I love the quip from one who created great statues – It was in the stone, I just released it.
But images are static. Life is moving.
Music is moving.
What is ‘great’ music is debatable, I know. I have my own biases.
I intensely dislike music that sounds like it’s tempo is coming from a metronome. I like it when the musician exhibits emotion and varies the tempo.
I hate it when i am being screamed at.
I hate it when I can’t find the melody
We often watch The Ed Sullivan Show. They feature ‘snips’ from the various artist who appeared on the show over the years. What often disappoints me – someone whose music or voice I love does a horrible job on the show.
I can’t sing or play an instrument – but boy can I be a critic.
I loved your quoting the sculptor who said e just released his work from the stone. A very humble man.
And we all like what we like. Fortunately there are no orthodoxies or rules. Whatever speaks to our inner man or woman. Whatever awakens us. I’ve always felt this is so. There is no use analyzing really I’ve discovered. My love is classical music. But what is supposed to pass for “new” classical is so tuneless, without character or beauty. And yet those who laud these composers do so in such a fawning way that I have to turn it off.
All I know is that my life would be the poorer if I had no music in it. I believe one doesn’t need to sing or play an instrument to take pleasure in what moves them. Enjoy whatever type adds to your life.😊
I used to know more about the art world than I can remember – so I went looking. It was Michaelanelo who said ‘every block of stone has a statue inside of it.
and
It was the famous Italian sculptor Michelangelo who saw the trapped sculpture he needed to release from the solid marble block [6]. The released figure from the stone was later named David.
As a child I used to try to sculpt things from soap. maybe because I didn’t ‘see’ what was held captive I never could make anything that was more than soap shavings.
I, like you, have focused on and treasure the pleasures of music.
I’ve seen some of the best paintings of sunrises, but none matched a greatest sunrise I saw coming up over the Potato Hills while viewing from the Panorama Vista on the Talimena Drive.
And you could look down and see bald eagles flying a 1000 ft below.
God’s Nature is Art at its best.
I’ve spent nights up on that vista.
Imho. You betcha. God gave us instruments here on earth to practice with. We’ll all be in tune in Heaven😉
