Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

Thinking of “today”, thinking of “now”:
2 Cor. 6:2 (cf. Isaiah 49:8)
“For He says: “In the acceptable time I listened to you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.” Behold, now is the time of favor; behold, now is the day of salvation.
Isaiah 55:6-7
“Seek the LORD while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the LORD, and He will have mercy on them, and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.”
Hebrews 3:15a (cf. Psalms 95:7-8)
“As it has been said: “If today you hear His voice, harden not your hearts…”
Revelation 22:17 (cf. Isaiah 55:1)
“The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” Let the one who hears say, “Come!” And let the one who is thirsty come, and the one who desires the water of life drink freely.”
—
Thinking of why:
Romans 6:23
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
John 3:16
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
Romans 5:8
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
John 5:24
“Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not come under judgment. Indeed, he has crossed over from death to life.”
—
Thinking of how:
Luke 18:13
“And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his chest, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’”
James 4:8a
“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.”
John 6:28-29
“Therefore they said to Him, “What must we do, that we may be doing the works of God?” Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you should believe in Him whom He has sent.””
Mark 9:24b
“‘Lord, I believe; help my unbelief.'”
Acts 16:30-31
“Then he brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, you and your household.””
—
Micah 6:8 — “He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?”
John 13:34-35 — “A new commandment I give to you, that you should love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love among one another.”
Mark 12:29-31 (cf. Deut. 6:4-5, Lev. 19:18) — “Jesus answered, “The foremost is, ‘Hear this O Israel: The Lord our God is One Lord, and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is not another commandment greater than these.”
Thoughts related to SSL’s query below in yesterday’s thread about Matthew 19:17:
“Jesus, although in the form of flesh, was still God. God is always good. It’s like, how could He say that?! Perhaps He was referring to His lower form not being “good” compared to the glory He laid down to live like the rest of us in order to redeem us.”
The way in which Jesus “was made lower than the angels for a little while” (cf. Hebrews 2:9) appears to relate to willingly “having taken on the form of a servant, having been made in the likeness of men” (cf. Phil. 2:7), “so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone” (cf. Hebrews 2:9). Jesus remained sinless and spiritually unblemished and without spot (cf. 1 Peter 1:19, Hebrews 4:15), which attests to His remaining “good” yesterday, today, and forever (cf. Hebrews 13:8).
It’s noteworthy that in the Greek, this part of Matthew 19:17 can evidently be read akin to ‘why ask Me about the good (peri tou agathou)? Only One is good’. Thus, some other translations of the English publish that as ‘Why do you ask Me about what is good? Only One is good.’
Additionally, the King James translation (and New King James translation) have the title with which the man first addressed Jesus in Matthew 19:16 as ‘Good teacher’. The Greek term used — Didaskale — doesn’t have a separate Greek word for ‘good’ used in conjunction with it there. That figures to be a primary reason why other translations use the term ‘teacher’ alone in that verse.
With that perspective, the question about the “good [things]” (Gr. Agathon) that the man asked to be done appears to have a direction in the first part of the answer to the only One who is truly good and from whom all good things originate. While what can be done by those following the Mosaic law would hopefully have been towards a good purpose — as “the Law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good” (cf. Romans 7:12), the Law was not in itself a sufficient means for deliverance for those who had already transgressed it. Per Galatians 3:10, “All who rely on works of the law are under a curse. For it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.”
As far as who had or would transgress the law (save for Christ Himself), Romans 3:9-10 spells out the sorry state of the children of Adam: “What then? Are we better? Not at all. For we have already charged both Jews and Greeks all to be under sin. As it has been written: “There is none righteous, not even one”. Man’s track record is further emphasized: “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
The answer to the troubling reality of sin and judgment was found not in man’s successful keeping of the law after having fallen short of it, but mercifully through Christ and His grace (cf. Romans 3:24). Paul highlighted how even in Abraham’s time, God’s promise came not from the law but “through the righteousness that comes by faith” (cf. Romans 4:13). Romans 5 evidently indicated the necessity of moving from man’s failed — and thus insufficient — track record to the unblemished record of One who also was “born of a woman” and “born under the law” (cf. Galatians 4:4), “yet was without sin” (cf. Hebrews 4:15).
As in many cases in Scripture, Jesus appeared to give an initial response to people that was wholly true and consistent with a purpose or purposes being accomplished in His earthly ministry. Some appear to be cases related to the law and the fulfillment of Messianic prophecy related to national Israel. This may be the case even were one to allow for the context to be what prompted the King James, the Young’s Literal Translation, and other translations to use “good teacher“ and have the question phrased as Jesus asking the man why he called Him good.
In the case of the Canaanite / Syropheonecian woman, her national origin and Gentile status was quite relevant to what transpired, given the level of faith demonstrated and her persistence in the face of national estrangement from God and His people.
Note that she was not answered after the first instance, she received the reply that Jesus was only sent to the lost of of the house of Israel, and then was told after she had made another plea that “It is not right to take the children’s bread and to cast itto the dogs” (Matthew 15:26). Even with this comparison, the woman made a humble appeal for mercy, to which Jesus replied (and also granted her plea): “O woman, great is your faith. It shall be to you as you desire” (cf. Matthew 15:28).
When the rich young ruler asked Jesus what good thing he could do to obtain eternal life, Jesus answered: “if you will enter into life, keep the commandments” (Matthew 19:17b). When asked which ones, Jesus listed several of the Ten Commandments. After the man said he kept the commandments from his youth, why did Jesus say anything further to him? Didn’t that settle the matter?
The Lord’s reaction was clear: “Jesus looked and him and loved him (Mark 10:21a)”. Had the rich young ruler thereby been justified, especially with his clear regard for the commandments? Or, could it be that even with someone following the written code, the man’s justification was not a settled matter?
Jesus continued (Mark 10:21b-22): “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” Jesus asked the man — who had asked what must “I” do — for something beyond the letter of the written code. Instead, the man went away, showing that those who adjudge themselves to be walking according to the written code may or may not be truly walking with Jesus.
This is in contrast to the Caananite woman whose plea for help was answered by Jesus with the Scriptural truth that He was sent to the lost sheep of Israel. Citing her faith in answering her plea when she persisted, Jesus allowed a greater point about faith to be made just as He did about the limitations of outward observance of the Ten Commandments and the Mosaic Law. It must be considered that what was asked of the rich young ruler pertained to his individual situation and stumbling block, especially given Christ’s observation that “with difficulty a rich man will enter into the kingdom of the heavens” (cf. Matthew 19:23).
This and your post above, with some good words from Frank Field and vibeman earlier today have helped me understand this issue better.
Thank you for this offering of spiritual wisdom!
I knew I could count on you for true exegetical accuracy.
Again, thank you for taking the time to address this area!
That a lot to ingest. Thanks TM!
Tanks , TM, perfect read before church this morning.
Sheesh, THANKS , first word out of the gate this morning and typo, but I will blame it on the blessed auto correct.
A small digression. It surprised me when I learned that I really didn’t share the name of one of the apostles, but that of a king whose ass the KJV translators were so obviously kissing.
And then I learned that those translators didn’t have the resources available to them that we do today, but they strived to get it right.
They also strived to uplift the language. Just look at all the different ways different translations have found to say ‘girl, get up.’ Mark 5:41 Taking her by the hand, Jesus said, “Talitha koum!” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, get up!” (biblehub.com)
Translations are always difficult. Poetry almost never survives. Idioms lose their meanings. You had to reach back to the Greek to help clear things up, but even that may be a translation. (Just what language was Jesus speaking? Aramaic? What languages did he know? Aramaic? Hebrew? Greek? …)
What is a good way to deal with the many different translations to English?
I found this interesting, Why the King James Bible of 1611 Remains the Most Popular Translation in History – HISTORY, though they didn’t actually say how the KJV became popular here in America.
The pilgrims used the Geneva Bible. But a carpenter did carry a KJV over on the Mayflower. The First King James Bible in America? | Manifold Greatness blog (wordpress.com)
The reason that translations are important but not the utmost importance is quite simple. Everyone that does not read Greek or Hebrew must depend on a translation. Absolutely everyone. Since translations are the creations of flawed men, they can never have the perfection that the original writings under the guidance of the Holy Spirit had. That perfection is both literary perfection and historical perfection. Translations are close, but not perfect. We also do not have any complete texts of the originals. We only have copies.
Imagine for a moment that God had miraculously preserved a perfect text that everyone could read and understand. The text itself would have become an idol of sorts. People would revere the text instead of the God about which it speaks. Instead, God gave us fragments of perfect truth that requires a discerning Spirit to read and understand. The words on paper become less important than the understanding given by God to our souls.
But (almost) all translations succeed in that which is most important. While we may not have the precise words that were used to pass on the knowledge of God and Christ, they do accurately inform us of the character of God, His perfection and holiness. The words used are important. However, the One about whom the words are written is more important. The miracle is that the nature and character of God comes through in every translation no matter how good or bad it may be. In all of them God is sovereign, man is depraved requiring redemption, and an eternal God has created a universe in which He can be worshiped for eternity by those he has redeemed.
John said that if every thing about Jesus was written down, all of the books in the world could not hold it. Jesus and God are bigger than any container in which one would try to put them, and that includes the words in books. The texts we have about God and Christ are literary windows into a vast eternity and the windows are always smaller and a bit less clear than the reality that exists on the other side.
I don’t think it’s that complicated.
Thank you, sarah, I needed that!
I am so glad you posted that image. At Holy Mass earlier today, during the Agnus Dei, I was in deep recall of my visit to The Pieta and how incredibly moved I was then – even though I had see so many photos of it – and, again today I was moved to tears. One never knows what or when Truth will visit for a moment of sanctification. Praise and glory to God Almighty.
Wow! You’ve wandered quite a way from all your incredible string instrument pieces that you share. The sound of the organ is so dense and powerful! Can’t wait to listen now!
I tried to introduce Buxtehude but apparently got timed out. Duuhh . . . He was a contemporary of Bach, composing for both strings, lute, and organ. His organ music are masterpieces, however. Can you just imagine sitting in a great cathedral in the 1700’s and hearing this music? How wonderful that must have been.
Darn! You transported me back to the ‘60s when my high school Chorale (a Director’s hand-picked subset of the chorus, and in which I sang first bass) performed a cantata along with several strings – it was from Buxtehude. I don’t recall the particular piece but the name stuck forever because we kids called it Bucks-ta-hoody. The German pronunciation actually isn’t too far from that, as our director once or twice reminded us. I have no idea of the correct Danish pronunciation. The cantata was challenging but in the end our group pulled it off pretty well. Credit our director for his professionalism and eternal patience.
Listening to these selections, it’s obvious the man could compose some seriously good Baroque organ music as well.
Hmm…were we students together? 😉
I know, not, but this was intriguing to learn about your musical acumem.
Glad you got to do it!
I would not know, given only our pseudonyms. It was just outside Baltimore, in southwest Baltimore County. The Director’s name was Ickes. If you were there back then, you’ll know exactly when and where….
Yes. I can imagine!
The pipe organ is called the king of instruments
Garrison, I have much of Walter Kraft’s works, all of Bachs works.
Walter was one of the best to play the best!
Loved hearing these compositions you linked.
Thank you for this great offering of pipe organ music tonight!
Gotta give a 7 👍s up! 🤗
Have a wonderful Sunday, Treepers. Please know that our Lord loves us, watches after us, and will guide us when we ask for his help. This is something I say in all honesty because our Lord had given me guidance through some of life’s most hard events.
Trust me on this—our Lord is the real deal. This week I had a chance conversation with an old friend. I’m not very good at proselytizing. Still I do what I can when the need appears. My friend had suffered a terrible loss and when I asked him to reach out to our Lord, he said he just couldn’t do it. This was troubling. I didn’t know what to say. Tonight, however, things had changed. When I talked to my friend he casually mentioned that he was prayng the “Lay me down to sleep, my soul to keep . . .” prayer. I stopped him and said, “are you serious about this?” Do you really say this prayer? Indeed he did. I told him he was in: this was all that is necessary to accept Jesus as our personal savior. Our Lord was now with him. My friend was saved. Although greatly troubled, he is a good man. I could not have been happier.
May our Lord bless us all, Treepers!
Back to you. Garrison!
Good morning, Solomon!
🙂
Thank you, Garrison! Blessings to you!
And to you also! 🙂
You mean?
You mean – you think there are people who DON’T pray this prayer as they drift off to sleep
Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord My soul to keep
If I should die before I wake
I pray the Lord my soul to take
Even tho it is short and sweet, sometimes it is a chore to stay awake to the end
As a child I slept under this prayer. My mother had embroidered and framed the piece. It hung above my crib as a baby.
There is another stanza at the end:
If I should live another day, I pray thee Lord to guide my ways.
I should’ve read your post before I posted mine!!!
You posted the original 2nd verse ❤️🥰
I taught this to my children when they were young and came up with a “positive” way to end the prayer…2nd verse
As I lay down to sleep
I pray the Lord my soul to take
And when I wake dear Lord I pray
Bless and guide me through the day.
Watched them drift to sleep with smiles on their faces😉
I can’t watch The Parting Glass. It’s so beautiful but it blurs up my computer screen for a long time.
There are several good versions of this song but when I heard this particular version it immediately struck me as a fitting week-ending benediction. I’m told that it was originally written to celebrate the last-round drinks at an Irish pub’s closing-time.
Correction: Wikipedia attributes the “Parting Glass” to Scotland. Since I’m Scots-Irish and the song originated in the 1700’s, the song could have traveled from Scotland to N. Ireland. Or, maybe not. 🙂
There is still the Scott Presbyterian Church in Armagh, Northern Ireland.
This also made my computer blurry!
Hope you like it!
Garrison, have you noticed in your life, or in friend’s life, that it is only until we fall on our knees, begging for help from our God, that help comes?
It’s interesting that you ask this kind of question. Since I am not churched, I can only speak from my personal experience. Our Lord has been with me for as long as I can remember—He was simply there-I felt his presence, knew he was watching over me.
I don’t think I’ve ever “fallen on my knees” when talking to him. My connection is more direct than that. When I talk to our Lord, I usually find a quiet place, close my eyes and just talk to him as I would my father. And, yes, there have been times—rarely but definitely there—that I’ve felt His Grace without actually asking for it. My take is that it is what a father would do. Our Lord is, after all, our Father.
I,too, have had similar experiences. They have produced wondrous results ❤️😉
Thanks garrison , I was beginning to think I was going nuts 😘
Rejoice O daughter of Sion !
Ms Idaho
I answered your question about needle-ball-airspeed on yesterdays thread.
Rah
I know you are headed out to drive today – I imagine you will see some of the tornado destruction first hand
I plan to respond to your descriptions of ‘some’ of Tony’s ‘feats’, so I hope you will be able to check back later for my response.
(No) Thanks to you, when my head hit the pillow last night the brain took off with a squeal ‘imagining’. IF I could have rolled the nosegear wheel on the runway – and IF i could have, HOW would I have gone about it.
I’ve seen videos of both those feats but can’t find them on YouTube now. Must have been dumped.
I did however, find this one of Bob Hoover in an Aero Commander. Bob was often mistakenly called “Chuck Yeager’s wing man” from their WWII days when they served in the same unit flying P-51s.
Sorry. Here is video of Bob doing the pouring during a roll.
NO
Nice music and words, but no roll
I was trying to figure out if the roll was on point or a barrel roll?
On point you would keep the nose on a point on the horizon as you roll. Jets and high powered airplanes can do this.
With a barrel roll you form a circle on the horizon as the airplane ‘rolls’; wings level, to vertical (perpendicular to the ground), to upside down, to vertical to level again. As tho you were rolling on the outside of a barrel. Can it be done as tho you were on the inside of the barrel? I don’t know….
Either way I am having mental difficulty with G forces during the roll. You would need a positive G to be able to pour water and 50+ years ago, when I did things like that, well, memories fade….
My first read of your post yesterday had me imagining a loop not a roll. I can well imagine the G forces at the top of a loop would let you pour water into a glass – with enough Gs water would flow ‘uphill’.
Then I got to laughing because we could not DO a decent loop in our Citabria. As a rule we took off with full tanks of gas – plus 2 people on board. The poor Citabria would struggle to get to the top of the loop. Often we ‘fell out’ of the loop, leveled the wings, and pretended we meant to do an immelmann turn all along, sloppy tho it may be Ha Ha
None of the airplanes we flew had what you would call a powerful motor – hence our acrobatics were fun but not spectacular if viewed from the ground. And, of course, nowhere near the ground.
Incredible.
i found the one of Bob Hoover in an Aero Commander (twin engine, lots of power) assuming pilot and no passengers, probably no where near gross weight.
It was, as I suspected, a barrel roll
My memory of the barrel roll is faulty – you would not fly an imaginary circle outside a barrel, you would fly an imaginary circle inside the barrel. Sigh
That video shows lovely stable air with no bumps visible. I never flew an Aero Commander, but pilots said it is a dream to fly.
And, absolutely, as long as you maintain at least 1G, water can flow uphill. The specific airplane makes it easy to do the maneuver – there’s that :). And, as stated, if you closed your eyes you would not know you were flying anything but straight and level.
the link
that’s very odd
the link was there until i refreshed
now what is there is not the barrel roll
same as with rah’s post above.
if you want to see it, tho, search for barrel roll while pouring water
ms idaho, keep those exchanges with rah going, I just sit back and enjoy.
glad to know someone besides me (and, I assume, rah) enjoy them too.
That’s right. In a perfectly executed barrel roll the airframe is not subjected to any different stress than if was flying straight and level right side up. That is why Tex Goodwin got away with doing a barrel roll of the prototype dash 80 that would become the 707.
now that I see you are ‘here’ ….
Tony did the nosegear ‘stunt’ using an airplane totatlly different from the ones we flew.
First question I had re: running on the nosewheel only on our Cessnas – could the airplane DO it?
I suspect it could not – for 2 reasons. First, the propeller may have been too close to the ground. 2nd, our planes were ‘prettied up’, so the nose and main landing gear had ‘fairings’, shaped wheel coverings. It is possible that if the nose got too low you might impale either the nosewheel fairing or the propeller into the ground – which would put the airplane on its back.
Another consideration: the main landig gear had wonderful flexible steel supports, designed to take hard landing and bounces. The nose gear had a hydraulic-type strut, which was fragile and inclined to ‘wobble’.
2nd question (assuming my memory is wrong about the above assumptions) – how would I go about it? First, I would find an airport with a very long runway where I could practice and not disturb other airplane traffic. I would approach the runway as tho to land but remain in ground effect – a foot or so from the ground. I would want an observer on the ground (if possible) to help me decide if my perceived nose down attitude was anywhere near correct. I know, that seems self evident, but all my landings were nose high. I would need to learn my new references while experimenting with various airspeeds, power and flap settings.
When comfortable with my new skills, I would put the nose wheel on the ground – but I would not put the weight of the airplane on it. I would ‘fly’ in ground effect with the wheel just touching. A crosswind would not matter – once I had the rest of the skill set mastered.
Then it occurred to me – it would be easier in a twin engine, like a Cessna 402. The motors are on the wings. Since I would want the main wheels in the air, the props would be safely away from the runway. Also, that airplane has retractable landing gear, hence no fairings to get in the way. Despite your description, I suspect Tony kept the airplane flying with little weight on the nose wheel during his ‘demonstration’.
OOOPS – I just read that he did it ‘deadstick’. I am positive our Cessna would not survive that
Hubby and I were discussing ‘under what circumstances’ would a pilot ever want or need to run the airplane on its nosewheel. I thought maybe if for some reason the main gear would not come down. He was a Flight Surgeon for SAC in the Air Force in the 60s. He also had some flying lessons after he got out of the service, so we can discuss airplane flying adventures. My next post will relate his ‘unusual’ landing while in SAC.
In another little story I have planned to share I discuss different kinds of flying – As a flight instructor my time was spent going up and down. Most pilots go ‘cross country’ , from point a to point b – sometimes point c – and eventually back to point a. Cross country flying is often described as hours and hours of boredom punctuated by moments of stark terror.
True Life Story:
Hubby had such a flight. In the early 60s he was a Flight Surgeon in the Air Force for SAC. The mission – to fuel an airborne bomber
In SAC all folks on flying status had to get x number of hours per month, so both crew and passengers were on this flight.
The KC-97, an air to air refueling tanker, was- fully loaded with jet fuel. Very heavy weight. It sprang a leak.
Jet fuel was sloshing inside the airplane. The crew and passengers were covered in jet fuel
All electrical was shut down so fuel could not be jettisoned. Sparks not wanted, don’t ‘cha know…
The plane was forced to land fully loaded with fuel everywhere inside the airplane. Because of the full fuel load they were overweight for landing – by a lot. They blew some tires and folks were thankful they were alive to hear the explosive bangs.
They were able to manually extend the landing gear. Then used up the entire extra long runway getting stopped. Luckily the runway was foamed.
Hubby’s comment – I never saw so many people move so fast to exit an airplane – flying (jumping) off the wings, which were several feet above the ground – no parachutes.
He’s smiling as he relates the story (we didn’t meet for another 20 or so years). As Is also said, any landing you can walk away from is a good landing.
HAH!
who says we made perfectly executed barrel rolls?
I was working with students, remember.
Thank goodness the Citabria was built strong enough to withstand lots of mistakes
Joe Bastardi goes over the weather and provides context in the larger scheme of things for what happened Friday night.
Scroll down to the video: WeatherBELL Analytics
Bottom line in a nut shell is: Yes warming was a factor. The water in the Gulf of Mexico is quite warm for this time of year. The warm air coming off of it clashed with a strong cold front.
In the larger context. Severe weather events require contrasts in temperature and pressures. The vast majority of the warming we see is in the Arctic. That means less contrasts in the air masses between the Arctic and the northern temperate zone where we live. Thus over all both tornadic and tropical cyclone activity is down relative to averages.
Of course that is no consolation for those that lost their lives or had their lives smashed Friday night-Saturday morning.
Old saying down south. When you get thunderstorms this time of year, expect snow in the same area in seven to ten days. And that is what the models are showing is going to happen. Warm this week, cold and snow coming in for some of us just in time for Christmas.

Because he would have been booed and heckled to no end.
“Let’s go Brandon!” is to creepy joe,
What daylight is to a vampire.
He’s probably still trying to figure out who Brandon is.
Do you think a staffer tried to explain it to him? 😂
Who knows. Probably not, not wanting to anger him.
I think he does get FJB!
He sure hears it enough!
Maybe “they” keep college football games away from him as well!
He otter know by now ya think. 🙂
True. One of my daughters texted me today about the Dallas Washington game.

PERSONALITY
“That they may be one, even as we are one.” John xvii. 22
Personality is that peculiar, incalculable thing that is meant when we speak of ourselves as distinct from everyone else. Our personality is always too big for us to grasp. An island in the sea may be but the top of a great mountain. Personality is like an island, we know nothing about the great depths underneath, consequently we cannot estimate ourselves. We begin by thinking that we can, but we come to realize that there is only one Being Who understands us, and that is our Creator.
Personality is the characteristic of the spiritual man as individuality is the characteristic of the natural man. Our Lord can never be defined in terms of individuality and independence, but only in terms of personality, “I and My Father are one.” Personality merges, and you only reach your real identity when you are merged with another person. When love, or the Spirit of God strikes a man, he is transformed, he no longer insists upon his separate individuality. Our Lord never spoke in terms of individuality, of a man’s “elbows” or his isolated position, but in terms of personality – “that they may be one, even as We are one.” If you give up your right to yourself to God, the real true nature of your personality answers to God straight away. Jesus Christ emancipates the personality, and the individuality is transfigured; the transfiguring element is love, personal devotion to Jesus. Love is the outpouring of one personality in fellowship with another personality.

I missed hearing that Michael Nesmith died a couple days ago. Michael Nesmith, singer-songwriter with the Monkees, dies at 78 – The Washington Post
Found a list of songs written by him. Sorted it by date and found that he actually wrote lots of Monkees songs. Songs written by Michael Nesmith | SecondHandSongs. Every song he wrote was covered by at least one artist.
I am no good at posting videos anymore. I’d love it if someone posted Ronstadt singing his ‘different drum’. And maybe some songs song by him.
Thank you for both postings.
One of my very favorite songs. At one time there was an excellent version of Michael performing this song on Austin City Limits. Apparently, it’s been pulled from Youtube. Thanks for posting. RIP Michael
I’ve played guitar and other instruments since the 1960s.
Took music lessons for a few years, and worked as a music teacher for a few years too.
I was a 6th grader when I learned how to play this song.
RIP Michael Nesmith.

“She perfected the liquid with help from her son’s science teacher and in 1958 launched the Mistake Out Company, running it from home and mixing up batched in her kitchen and then garage. When IBM passed on the chance to invest, Bette decided to go it alone, and built an extraordinary multi-million corporation herself.”

That’s very interesting.
It’s the ideal kind of thing that makes ‘Uncle John’s Bathroom Reader’ books so great.
FYI POWERLINE has a long discussion on Nesmith and his contribution to several people. PL, CTH, and Lucianne my daily staple…but nothing compares to the depth of feeling and community here. Have a blessed Sunday all

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow, that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, amen.

The Jesus Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy upon me, a sinner.
Prayer of Saint Ioannikios the Great of Bithynia (+ 846)
My hope is the Father, my refuge the Son, my protection the Holy Spirit. O Holy Trinity, glory to Thee.
The Trisagion Hymn
and the
50th Psalm (Septuagint)
For Advent or for any time, one of the greatest cantatas ever composed: Sergei Taneyev’s At the Reading of a Psalm.
The text is a poetic meditation by poet Alexei Khomyakov on Psalm 50. I cannot find the translation outside of the CD itself, but one does not need to know the text to enjoy the music while meditating on the Psalm yourself.

Lauren’s brood:
So wonderful to see all of those boys. She has to have a good husband.
Jesu- se, ego sum peccatore. Et mea peccata sunt mea culpa solus. Solus.
Sed- commodo, dimitte me.
Et, benedicite in Tu Lux. Omni.
Is that Latin via Google Translator?
Here is what I think you might want:
“Jesu, Ego sum peccator.” (Jesus, I am a sinner.)
Meā maximā culpā peccavi ego solus* (By my complete fault have I sinned)
Sed, quaeso, dimitte me, (But please, forgive me)
Tuā luce benedicas me (May you bless me with your light)
Amen.
* Sola would be used by a woman.
“Jesus, I am a sinner. My sins are my fault, alone. But, please forgive me. And, Bless in your Light. Everyone.”
is what my Latin said.
Yours is similar, though a little off. But, yes- Classical Latin 🙂
Greetings again!
Yes, well, my point was that the Latin words made little to no sense because of grammatical and semantic violations. Note the differences.
Best Wishes!
Thus says the Lord:
“Stand by the roads, and look,
and ask for the ancient paths,
where the good way is; and walk in it,
and find rest for your souls.
But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’
I set watchmen over you, saying,
‘Pay attention to the sound of the trumpet!’
But they said, ‘We will not pay attention.’”
Jeremiah 6:16-17
And we think our times are so unique and different, but we are all just mice running in the same old wheel, until we heed the Word of the Lord and are set free.
Good Morning, I’ve been using TTB.org with J. Vernon McGee for my daily Bible study for 40 years now. He passed in 1989 but his style fits my personality and it had a network of AM stations across the nation that I could listen to while trucking over the road. It’s easier now with phone and internet options. It’s a 5 year thru the bible study. I was fortunate to grow up in a Christian home with praying parents so my wife and I have done the same for our kids. May God Bless America and all at CTH.
PS Still missing Rush and Paul Harvey too.

“We will try to investigate what led to this,” the sheriff said. “But this is tragic for the deputy, for the sheriff’s office and for the man’s family.”
Wow. Apparently the sheriff doesn’t think it was a tragedy for the innocent man they killed.

I haven’t posted any songs on here before, but have enjoyed all the music posted by others.
I have been wanting to post this by the Moody Blues for a long while, and I finally decided it was time.
I apologize in advance as it is not very uplifting, though fitting for the times we are in. Keep in mind this was written and recorded in 1972, toward the end of the Viet Nam War and the beginning of the end for Richard Nixon. Seemed like hard times; I remember it well.
One other thought I’d like to add: I believe God hears prayers with tears and is quicker to answer.

I must admit that the little ones doing the nativity and singing Christmas songs was just what I needed this morning at church. Hope ya’ll get to enjoy a program this Christmas. 🙂 🙂
lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and his family as they seek to lead America back to You. Also, we pray for Angels to protect and support our Sundance as he works for justice and peace.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
