As a physician, I am unable to order a test to differentiate between strains. I don’t think it is commercially available to me or most any physician. All the “delta” deaths were mostly “assumed”. In Sept 2020 there were reportedly 14 known strains of the virus in Ann Arbor, based on exact genotyping of the viruses of select patients (high level, expensive, research lab tests).
We must demand reproducible testing of strain variants, careful clinical typing and research level pathophysiologic processes. There is so much ignorant presumption and propagation of useless invalid information by official sounding “sources”. Credibility of most medical bodies and institutions is in the toilet, if not for obvious BS, for being ineffective guardians of our medical system.

We previously identified a human monoclonal antibody, 47D11, capable of cross-neutralizing SARS-CoV-2 and SARS-CoV and protecting against the associated respiratory disease in an animal model. Here, we report cryo-EM structures of both trimeric spike ectodomains in complex with the 47D11 Fab. 47D11 binds to the closed receptor-binding domain, distal to the ACE2 binding site. The CDRL3 stabilizes the N343 glycan in an upright conformation, exposing a mutationally constrained hydrophobic pocket, into which the CDRH3 loop inserts two aromatic residues. 47D11 stabilizes a partially open conformation of the SARS-CoV-2 spike, suggesting that it could be used effectively in combination with other antibodies targeting the exposed receptor-binding motif. Together, these results reveal a cross-protective epitope on the SARS-CoV-2 spike and provide a structural roadmap for the development of 47D11 as a prophylactic or postexposure therapy for COVID-19.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (CAFC) ruled yesterday in two precedential decisions that Moderna’s challenges to decisions of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) in favor of Arbutus both failed. The CAFC dismissed one ruling for lack of standing and in the other said Moderna’s arguments that the PTAB erred in its finding that Arbutus’ patent was not unpatentable as obvious were unpersuasive.
Nonobviousness Finding Supported by Substantial EvidenceThe first appeal relates to Arbutus’ U.S. Patent 8,058,069, titled “Lipid Formulations for Nucleic Acid Delivery,” which Moderna challenged via inter partes review (IPR) at the PTAB, asserting three grounds for invalidation. Moderna’s vaccines use lipid nanoparticles in delivery of mRNA to cells.
First, Moderna said that all claims of the patent would have been anticipated by and/or obvious over International Pat. Publ. WO 2005/007196 (“the ’196 PCT”) or U.S. Pat. Publ. 2006/0134189 (“the ’189 publication”). Next, Moderna alleged that all claims would have been obvious over a combination of the ’196 PCT, the ’189 publication, and two other publications. And lastly, Moderna said that all claims of the ’069 patent were anticipated by U.S. Pat. Publ. 2006/0240554 (“the ’554 publication”), and alternatively that the claims would have been obvious over the ’554 publication.
