The cinematic effort by ABC here is, excuse the pun, likely to backfire. It’s just perverse, twisted and creepy, considering that someone died.
Whoever gave Baldwin the advice to do this was just playing to his own vanity. The one thing regular Americans can detect better than all other nations of people is fake efforts at authenticity. That reality has been the Achilles heel of professional con-artists and leftists for decades; and thankfully, most people have retained that instinct.

We can assume that the good Mr. Baldwin—who is dramatically anti-gun—is a non-technical person who has little knowledge about how things actually work. Without going into a lot of useless detail here is a simple fact—guns like the one he held don’t just “go off”. Anti-gun folks often believe that guns are unstable explosions just waiting to go off while, in fact, they are by design intended to be the antithesis of “just going off”. Simply put, the good Mr. Baldwin had to pull the trigger for the gun to “go off”. His lack of technical knowledge about guns is telling.
See, he could technically be telling the truth. He could have thumbed the hammer not fully cocking it and when he let it fall it made contact with the firing pin… This is possible in some revolvers even with transfer safety bar systems. I’m guessing he was holding a Colt SAA replica or something along those lines. Would that be enough of a justification in his mind to absolve himself of blame? Given the massive ego he has displayed I’d say yes.
Some sets that use lots of guns have to have a serious investment in training, safety, processes and accountability. It doesn’t look like that was present here and this dumbass just had to come along to prove it.

The script did not call for an unholstered weapon.
The weapon was a single action revolver, meaning that Baldwin would have had to cock the hammer before pulling the trigger. Two steps.
