Why Shoplifting Is Now De Facto Legal In California
Google “Shoplifting in San Francisco” and you will find more than 100,000 hits. And you will find lots of YouTube videos, where you can watch a single thief, or an entire gang, walk into an SF Walgreens or CVS and empty the shelves. Most walk in, go about their pilfering, and then walk out, though at least one thief rode their bike into the store and departed the same way, carefully navigating their two-wheeler down a narrow aisle.
We probably shouldn’t call it shoplifting anymore, since that term connotes the idea of a person trying to conceal their crime. In San Francisco, there is no attempt to conceal theft, and there is almost never any effort by store employees, including security personnel, to confront the thieves. The most they do is record the thefts with their cell phones.
Why is shoplifting so rampant? Because state law holds that stealing merchandise worth $950 or less is just a misdemeanor, which means that law enforcement probably won’t bother to investigate, and if they do, prosecutors will let it go.

I agree that the media needs to stop being politically correct and to start reporting race of criminal perps strictly for accuracy of information. I am disappointed to see comments that insinuate that being a black Americans is the cause of crime in American. Correlation does not equal causation. I am also disappointed at the choice of graphics to criticize the media, which feed into the progressive democrats accusations of racism by conservatives and republicans. I assume it is unintentional but it is not helpful.
Does race cause people to commit crimes? I suspect its the environment and culture that people grow up in. Single parent households, lack of education/skills, a culture that promotes violence as a sign of manhood through movies and music, a culture that views working hard and morals as weak, a culture that promotes fake success through the social media flaunting of cars, clothes and cash when people are really living in the hood, a culture of generational poverty living off of government checks, lack of opportunities for those with criminal records, criminal recidivism; etc, all contribute to people being stuck in a cycle of poverty.
While perps are not free from guilt for committing their crimes, Hollywood, the mainstream media and Democrats are the real villains here. They promote the cultural attributes above to keep people dependent on government and voting for them. They got away with it for so long because they point to republicans as racists so minorities won’t listen to the conservative message. Don’t forget many patriotic black Americans like Winsome Sears, Candace Owens, Colion Noir, Clarence Thomas, Thomas Sowell, Larry Elder, David Clarke etc. Please stop falling into the trap of black, white, yellow, red etc.
I am college educated, come from a two parent household, grew up in an upper middle class healthy environment and now have a good job and family. If I didn’t have these things, I know my life would have been much harder growing up. Some people that have faced the cultural challenges I mentioned before have overcome them but success or failure has nothing to with race, in my opinion. Its the culture and the positive influences in peoples lives that make the difference.

I lived in this area for the last 10 years I was in California, my native state. This locale is upper middle class to quite wealthy. It went for Bush in ’88 and Pete Wilson in ’92 which is how we got Feinstein in the Senate (she lost the governor race). My advice is to learn about situational awareness.
Don’t put yourselves in positions that may turn into death traps. Pay attention to your surroundings and the people near you. Avoid places where there are large crowds. Be prepared to run and find cover immediately without hesitation. Run as far as you can as fast as you can. Be prepared to defend yourselves if necessary. You don’t absolutely need a firearm, but you should consider buying one and learning how to use it. Bear spray or something like it can be used.
If you live in a high crime area find a way to move and do it as soon as possible. Don’t go anywhere near California, particularly the bigger cities. Move from any place where the local/state elected officials and court systems coddle lawbreakers.
Things may change for the better, but it’s not likely to change in the short term.

I grew up in a 50/50 southern city.
Many black friends. We all got along. 1960s.
Even to this day, one of my best friends is a black man who I had in my house recently and we had good Christian fellowship.
Color or politics didn’t matter. We’re like brothers. We kid our “adopted” Mom and say, here’s my brother Daryl and my other brother, Daryl. ?
But for the most part, that kind of comaraderie hardly exists anymore.
I love that man in a proper Christian way and have helped him through the many difficulties of his life.

It’s very dicey to speak to LEO’s. You can never be assured of the political and social motives of the agency which pays them. And unless you are sure, and are in agreement with those motives, best not to any longer in America.
An analogous question would be if you trust the police/military not to fire upon Americans protesting their gov’t.

But to answer your specific question, why would anyone go to the American institutions for justice, especially in the circumstance you devised where justice has already been served.

I have traveled a lot in South America where I have personally seen the dissolution of formerly peaceful and prosperous areas turn into crime infested ghettos due to the breakdown of the economy and a complete absence of policing and community responsibility/personal ethics. If I’m right about where things are headed here, you should invest in companies that install physical security barriers, bars on windows, perimeter fencing, steel security doors, razor wire, etc. This will become the norm in larger cities as we see New York, Chicago, LA, SF etc start to resemble Lima, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Quito, etc…

This is not new behavior at all. Yrs ago I worked in a dress shop, back around 1970. It was in an inner city plaza that had a JC Penney, Sears, hardware store, Hall’s dept store, other small shops. About every one-two months a caravan of cars would pull in and black people would jump out, run into the stores, stare you in the eyes as they loaded up their arms with merchandise, walk out and drive off. The result of this is that the stores moved out to the suburbs and large malls were built. The malls closest to the cities gradually went under as gangs of “youth” took over and mall associated crime exploded, and white people refused to shop there anymore because of safety concerns. Savage and lawless behavior, decivilization. Now they are after the wealthy stores and suburbs.

In 1,551 U.S. cities, according to the FBI tally for 1956, Negroes, making up 10% of the U.S. population, accounted for about 30% of all arrests, and 60% of the arrests for crimes involving violence or threat of bodily harm—murder, non-negligent manslaughter, rape, robbery and aggravated assault. In one city after another, the figures—where they are not hidden or suppressed by politicians—reveal a shocking pattern. Items:
New York (14% Negro). Of the prisoners confined in houses of detention last year to await court disposition of their cases, 44% of the males and 65% of the females were Negroes.
Chicago (15% Negro). In 1956 twice as many Negroes as whites—1,366 to 679—were arrested on charges of murder, non-negligent manslaughter, rape and robbery.
Detroit (25% Negro). Two out of three prisoners held in the Wayne County jail are Negroes. Last month 62% of. the defendants presented for trial in Recorder’s Court were Negroes. Of last year’s 25,216 arrests resulting in prosecution, excluding traffic cases, Negroes accounted for 12,919.
Los Angeles (13% Negro). In 1956 Negroes accounted for 28% of all arrests, and 48% of the arrests for homicide, rape, aggravated assault, robbery, burglary, larceny and auto theft.
San Francisco (7% Negro). The victims in 896 of last year’s 1,564 recorded robbery cases reported that the assailants were Negroes.
Negro leaders sometimes argue passionately that arrest statistics wildly distort the comparative incidence of crime among Negroes and whites because cops are more likely to arrest Negroes for petty crimes or on mere suspicion. Protests Executive Editor Charles Wartman of Detroit’s Michigan Chronicle, a Negro weekly: “The number of Negroes booked is at least partially indicative of subconscious if not conscious racial persecution on the part of police officers.”
But inequality of treatment by the police may actually tend to shrink rather than inflate the statistics of Negro crime. Says Newsman Wartman in the next breath: “When Negroes violate social morals—sex, drinking, gambling—white cops bypass this as ‘typically Negro.’ ” Many Negro leaders protest that the police are far from diligent enough in dealing with crimes committed against Negroes—and Negroes are the victims in the great majority of Negro crimes of violence. Since Negroes, even when they are victims or innocent bystanders, are often wary of calling the police, many offenses of disorder and assault go unreported when committed by Negroes in the depths of a ghetto.
Whether the statistics of Negro crime overstate or understate the reality, they are shrouded from public attention by what a Chicago judge last week called a “conspiracy of concealment.” In many cities, Negro leaders and organizations such as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People put pressure on politicians, city officials and newspapers to play down the subject. Fearing loss of Negro votes, few elected officials dare to resist the pressures.
