Before getting into the weeds on a CBS article warning of a “Looming Showdown” amid large numbers of critical workers who are refusing the mandated vaccination, it is worth setting up the accurate context for the details inside the discussion.
There are 205 million legally eligible U.S. workers between 15 and 74-years-old (census figures) with a workforce participation rate of 61% (BLS figures) which would equal 125 million legally eligible workers. However, the Bureau of Labor Statistics puts the number of working Americans at 161 million workers (BLS figures). The majority of the difference between the two figures are most likely illegal alien workers (yeah, lots of them).
Approximately 40 percent of the eligible population are not working. Some people are single family income (wives or husbands who don’t work), and some are just people who choose not to work, cannot work or have not yet started to work (college etc). With somewhere between 125 million and 161 million workers doing the jobs that keep the country functioning, there are also approximately 10 million unfilled job openings.
According to the most recent statement from Joe Biden on October 14th: “We’re down to 66 million — it’s still an unacceptably high number — of unvaccinated people from almost 100 million in July.” Approximately 60 million of those are within the current U.S. workforce.
If we split the difference (census -vs- BLS) and take the mid-point at 140 million workers, then 60 million workers refusing the vaccine mandate represents about 40 percent of the entire population of eligible workers. Put another way, in the best case scenario, if 60 million people quit working or were fired, the national unemployment rate would be at least 35% !
What we call the United States doesn’t function with 35% unemployment; systems of commerce start to collapse, then government, then civil society.
The U.S. economy is currently functioning with 5% unemployment and 10 million unfilled jobs. Just imagine the economic impact of 35% unemployment and 70 million unfilled jobs.
Keep in mind, the vast majority of those 60 million jobs are the productive workforce that keep the entire machine of the U.S. functioning. This is the workforce that keeps the lights on, garbage picked-up, streets safe, shelves stocked, stuff fixed and facilitates everything that makes the entire system of society function.
We are also down to the hardened group who are not going to take that forced vaccination. In quantifiable terms, the increased pressure to force the jab into the arms of the American workforce has now crossed into “the law of diminishing returns.” More government pressure ain’t going to yield the previous level of compliance. This threshold crossed is also quantifiable in the 4.3 million Americans who quit working (242,000 of them in August alone).
There ain’t no way in heck that government or private industry can function with tens of millions of Americans in the workforce getting forcibly removed for refusing the vaccine. I believe that is why you are now hearing from companies saying they will not fire the unvaccinated workers (ex Delta Airlines).
Pontificating leftists and academics, without a bit of sense for what actually happens in the Main Street economy, have no concept of what it looks like if ten million people quit or are fired from working next month…. let alone five times that many. Bottom line: THIS IS A NON-ENFORCEABLE MANDATE, even if they wanted to do it.
The power of the American workforce is in the scale of dependency each person brings to the system when they are united. It might seem like a few thousand here/there, because that’s the way the media are framing it. However, if you add up all those few thousands together you end up with millions.
CBS – In Chicago, the union representing 13,000 police officers is advising members to ignore a mandate from Mayor Lori Lightfoot to get vaccinated against COVID-19 by Friday. If officers don’t get vaccinated or agree to be tested twice a week at their own expense, the city says it’ll suspend them without pay.
[…] “All I can tell you is, if we suspect the numbers are true, and we get a large number of our members to stand firm on their beliefs that this is an overreach, and they are not going to supply the information in the portal, or submit to testing, then it’s safe to say the city of Chicago will have a police force at 50%, or less, for this weekend coming up,” Catanzara told his members.

The issue is also flaring up on the East Coast, including in Massachusetts, where roughly 42,000 state workers face an October 17 deadline to be fully vaccinated or risk being fired.

Notice all of those media examples are from Democrat friendly territories. The red regions are even stronger in determination to fight against federal mandates for forced medical procedures.
The system will not function if 50+ million American workers stand united against the vaccine mandate. It really is that simple.

Hey Bree – I cannot speak for Red Wing. It is possible that any company is allowing people to apply for exemptions because they have to under the ADA. Do not be surprised if any company has every intent of denying the exemption and exiting the employee.
The denial is a head fake. Don’t be fooled. Companies, just like Big Harma, are *legally* required to obtain consent for experimental injections. This is the reason they must offer exemptions- to legally provide an out for those who do *not* consent.

The workers who did get the jab may want to consider what their life will be like when they’re required to pick up the hours and shifts left vacant by their former co-workers. Would be in their best self interest to stand with the unvaxxed.
Many of those jabbed workers are going to find their health getting in the way of their productivity, in some cases causing long term or permanently reduced capacity. Remember this is still a trial; an experimental concoction with unknown long term effects.

The dept of health took legal action against 40 restaurants for refusing to comply with shutdown and indoor dining orders. On the eve of the trial, knowing they would lose, the dept of health petitioned the court to discontinue the matter. They had already achieved their illegal goals, they had spent none of their own money on attorneys fees, and there were no consequences for the damages done to restaurants. We are witnessing the same game of chicken plying out now.
They could follow Australia and make the penalty a $5000 (or more) fine, then sic their newly minted IRS agents on us.
There aren’t too many, in the context of the tens of millions of workers in our nation, who actually *have* been fired. It is 99 percent threats and 1 percent big stick.
I suspect those who have actually been fired will have recourse once the dust settles. Those companies that follow through with termination despite exemptions, are out on a limb when it comes to *experimental* injections.
These companies are not following the current laws, not “guidance” or suggestions, but actual employment LAWS and practices ..like OSHA, HIPAA, ADA, DOL and EEOC.
None of the LAWS have caught up to these clot shot press releases! Government agencies that follow up on termination threats will use tax dollars to buy the judges and the attorneys who can string along any lawsuits to infinity.
If everyone walks off at once, the payroll and sales taxes alone would come to a grinding halt.

Seriously, why not give the employees a choice that doesn’t place them at risk?

I think the basic point is the contract must be modified and agreed to. If its not then its a lay off at a minimum.
The argument that should be made if the employee claims:

When I went to file, the previous employer fought it saying I was offered suitable work that included a $4 / hour cut in pay in 1990, and the unemployment office sided with the former employer denying my claim. They said I could appeal. I was starting a business and had registered my new business to pay unemployment taxes. In the materials I got from the state was the information on appeals. The former employee has three levels of appeals. The former employer gets seven. After three wins for the employee, there are four more levels for the employer. I folded my hand and left. I had a business to run.
Someone commented here, yesterday I think, with questions we should be asking about what exactly is in the vaccine and how does it work, etc. I think people should print those questions and give it to their employers and demand answers and refuse to take this concoction because they don’t have the answers.

I am furious also at the idea of my grandchildren getting the shot. The debate has to go beyond the safety or non-safety of the shot though. Many people are not concerned about the vaccine because they are used to taking vaccines for other things and really don’t think this is much different.
That is why I keep trying to remind them that giving in to this shot will not get their lives back to normal. Just review with them all the promises made and broken, like, get the vaccine and you won’t have to wear masks anymore. Think you will be able to fly on airplanes like before if you have the shot? I had an appointment with a top-rated cardiologist last week and he told me that he, personally, has seen more deaths caused by suspected adverse reactions to the vaccines than people who have died due to Covid. He told me if a woman who had the vaccine before she know she was pregnant at the time and she miscarried. He said that the risk of miscarriage in such a case was something like 80+%.
Before I left, he offered and I accepted, a sheet of instructions to begin prophylactic Zinc and to have a compounding pharmacy fill a prescription for Ivermectin to have on hand. He said if I began to have symptoms to get a rapid test and if positive to go to an ER and I nsist on an infusion of monoclonal antibodies and to call him for a prescription for a drug cocktail.

My SIL is a labor & delivery nurse. These nurses KNOW. Vaxxed while pregnant patients are delivering almost full term stillborn babies. SIL herself is now 10 weeks along and will quit her job if the hospital tries to force the jabs. Horrifyingly I just found out last night that our neighbors son, who was expecting his first little girl, lost the baby at 5-1/2 months gestation. His wife’s OBGYN convinced her to get the jab. That baby was also stillborn and had significant deformities which was blamed on a missing chromosome and not the jab. “Something is very wrong here” is an understatement.
After taking the spike protein shot, my sister got endometrial cancer. She had to wait almost 3 months before she could get the surgery she needed. This is what one of the doctors said he was seeing as a rise of 20% of this kind of cancer.
A hospital grievance councilor told me in March, their hospital had 5 full term still births so far this year, at the hospital that normally never sees one.
