Same here. I cook restaurant quality almost every night, without all of the muss and fuss of finding a parking space. Plus, I have great cast iron skillets, dutch ovens and such, and know how to use them. Housemate has the grilling and smoking thing down.
This year I’ve been having fun drying a wide variety of spices, fruits and veggies, grinding some into powder, like with peppers, ginger, cloves, etc. Making my own garlic paste, which takes no time at all, is super easy and stores easily in the freezer to just pop in, get what you need and back in again. Just puree two garlic bulbs in a bit of olive oil, plus a dash of salt. I usually do 4 oz oil, and it lasts about a month.
Freeze the garlic first. When you bring it out thaw it afterwards you will find it the easiest ever to peel. Takes literally a minute or so for both bulbs, and just with your fingers. Mine come out an iridescent brownish yellow. Almost like it is lit from within.

So, living memory is long.

Of course he knew many veterans who had fought in the Civil War, but he also knew people who knew people who had fought in the Revolutionary War. We didn’t use to need nursing homes or public schools, but the push towards two-income households well away from any other family to keep up with the Jones has destroyed a lot of civilization’s usual safety rails.
Its time to get back to the time-tested basics of the multi-generational home; the adult children help care for their parents, the elderly parents help by instructing their grandchildren in the values that make society work.
You are to be commended for caring for your Dad and I agree with what you’re saying, but another factor is the elderly are living far longer these days ( at least up to now) and a 70 year old cannot easily care for a 90 year old in a home setting.

Yesterday I saw two things occur that point out, in stark relief, why Biden and his pals are doomed with their jab mandate.
The first was at the local Lowes. It was mid-afternoon and I was in there to get a half-dozen small items I need to help Sarah get her van together enough for a weekend excursion she has planned. One checkout was open, the one with one checker and six automated “do it yourself” kiosks beyond it (the employee, presumably, was there to deter attempted walk-out thefts.) The few other staffers in the place were making quite a bit of noise about how short-staffed they were as the line backed up to pay and go.
What else was in evidence? They were all wearing rags on their faces.
May I point out that by the data roughly 15% of our county had allegedly had Covid-19 by the first of April, counting only “positive tests” and not those infected who never got tested or saw a doctor. What do you think it is now? About double that, I suspect, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the total of those previously infected was approaching 40%. That’s three to four in ten who have no reason to wear anything; they’re recovered and presumptively immune. A corporate mandate to “wear a mask” on the job is thus stupid and abusive; it is exactly identical to mandating that a woman employee bare her***** so as to increase the odds of a man (gee, you don’t think the average jobber in a Lowes is a man, do you?) will leer at her and buy more stuff. There is zero benefit that can accrue to such an employee — only ridicule and risk. Is management shocked that all the part-timers who ran the checkstands stuck up the middle finger when they pulled this crap?
But now here comes a jab mandate! Well, same deal except now it’s not a diaper on your face it’s the literal threat of potential death or serious disability which the company, of course, is not liable for nor is anyone else. All for a starting wage, the sign said on the door (“Help Wanted”) beginning at $12/hour.

According to Real Clear Politics, about 3,300,000 voted yes for Recall (with Elder receiving about 2,400,000 votes)…however, only 66% of precincts have reported…I noticed significant gains in YES and Elder vote totals when the reported in went from 61% to 66%…the theory being a lot of walk-in votes havent been counted yet… of course, it wont make a difference in the outcome, but I am interested to see if the margin closes as they start counting remaining precincts….finally, a lot of CA woes began when the GOP basically abandoned the state starting about 25 years ago…people are saying the GOP didn’t back Elder…to what I say, “what GOP?”…the Recall was a total grass roots effort by citizens, we are just the canary in the coal mine for the total abdication of the GOP to their base that you saw in the aftermath of the 2020 steal

From a campaign prospective, we were better off when Gavin Newsom was running against himself. This is the basement strategy of Joe Biden. He stood for nothing, and basically did not campaign. He allowed Trump to run against himself. This is a good strategy if your opponent has high negatives. Having said that, there is virtually no way anyone was going to beat the California cheat machine.
Republicans have to realize that we have to out-cheat the Democrats. Spend all your campaign money on gathering up as many mail-in ballots as possible. Then vote, vote, vote.

The Recall was doomed when the state used the Delta variant as justification to send out 22 million mail-in ballots…apart from the obvious ballot security issues.. this allowed a lot of Democrat voters who might not have gotten off their butt to vote for Newsom to just mail them in…and Dems have a huge registration advantage in CA (go up to my previous post about GOP capitulation in the state)…I’ve heard it reported 8 million mail in ballots were returned.. once again, go to Real Clear Politics and see that only about 9 million votes have been recorded (66% reporting)…where are the other 34%? Are they walk in voting for Sept 14? Why havent they been tabulated.. the sad fact is, elections are now turned on their heads with the mail in vote dominating the results (with all the opportunity for fraud, etc.)….I dont think Elder ran a bad campaign, he has almost 2.5 million votes and counting…but the fix was in when they used Covid to keep the cheat-in scam in place.. and, of course, they will keep doing it…that’s the whole point of Covid now
