Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

The Twelve Apostles And Paul
By Pastor Cornelius R. Stam
In comparing the ministry of the twelve apostles with that of the Apostle Paul, we must observe carefully:
1. The twelve were chosen by Christ ON EARTH (Luke 6:13) while Paul was later chosen by Christ IN HEAVEN(Acts 9:3-5; 26:16).
2. Prior to Paul’s conversion the twelve had known Christ only ON EARTH (I John 1:1). Even at His ascension to heaven “a cloud received Him OUT OF THEIR SIGHT” (Acts 1:9). But Paul knew Christ only IN HEAVEN, having never seen Him on earth (Acts 26:16; ICor. 15:8).
3. The twelve represented their own nation. The number twelve has no connection with the “one Body” of Christ. As we know, Jacob of old “begat the twelve patriarchs” (Acts 7:8). From these sprang the twelve tribes of Israel. These tribes had twelve princes over them (Numbers 1:16). Even when Israel was ruled by kings there were still to be twelve princes — one over each tribe (I Chronicles 27:22). Thus, as He went forth proclaiming “the gospel of the kingdom” our Lord chose twelve princes for the twelve thrones in the kingdom to come (Matt. 19:28).
On the other hand, Paul, as one apostle, represents the “one Body,” the Church of today (Rom.12:5; ICor. 12:13; Eph.4:4). However, he was both a born Hebrew and a born Roman, so represented believing Jews and Gentiles “reconciled…unto God in one body by the cross…” (Eph.2:16).
4. The twelve were sent to proclaim Christ’s kingdom “at hand” (Matt. 10:7), and later to offer its establishment on earth (Acts 3:19-26). But Paul was sent to proclaim “the gospel of the grace of God”(Acts 20:24), while the kingdom is held in abeyance.
5. The ministry of the twelve was based on covenant promises (Isaiah 60:1-3; Luke 1:70-79; Acts 3:22-26). Paul’s ministry was not based on covenant promises, but wholly on the grace of God through Christ (Rom.3:21-28; 5: 20,21; Eph.1:6,7; 2:7; etc.).

Luke 6:13 And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles;
Acts 9:3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:
4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.
Acts 26:16 But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee;
1 John 1:1 ¶ That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
Acts 1:9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
1 Corinthians 15:8 And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.
Acts 7:8 And he gave him the covenant of circumcision: and so Abraham begat Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat the twelve patriarchs.
Numbers 1:16 These were the renowned of the congregation, princes of the tribes of their fathers, heads of thousands in Israel.
1 Chronicles 27:22 Of Dan, Azareel the son of Jeroham. These were the princes of the tribes of Israel.
Matthew 19:28 And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Romans 12:5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.
1 Corinthians 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
Ephesians 4:4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
Ephesians 2:16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
Matthew 10:7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Acts 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;
20 And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you:
21 Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.
22 For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you.
23 And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.
24 Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days.
25 Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed.
26 Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.
Acts 20:24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.
Isaiah 60:1 ¶ Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.
2 For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.
3 And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.
Luke 1:70 As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:
71 That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;
72 To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;
73 The oath which he sware to our father Abraham,
74 That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear,
75 In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.
76 And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;
77 To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,
78 Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,
79 To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Romans 3:21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.
28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
Romans 5:20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
Ephesians 1:6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
Ephesians 2:7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
Ever get that feeling that you’re part of a play? – that as you see the soft illuminations, you realize that you are “live’, that terrifyingly you might have a few lines, one of what you sense is a great cast in a sea of shadowy chorus. And like all great works, this one has all – heroes and villains. Of course there are always those who “get it” and can relax a little, the others, poor dears, have to wait for the finale just to see what role and to what inevitable end the writer and director decides/d. Ah, but, “If everyone was listening”
“4. The twelve were sent to proclaim Christ’s kingdom “at hand” (Matt. 10:7), and later to offer its establishment on earth (Acts 3:19-26). But Paul was sent to proclaim “the gospel of the grace of God”(Acts 20:24), while the kingdom is held in abeyance.”
Clarity as to salvation coming in the same manner for all was manifested as God moved with specific directions to the appointed preachers of the gospel, as well as the Gentile hearers. Scripture showed how an angel directed the centurion Cornelius to Peter (cf. Acts 10:1-8, 22). Meanwhile, Peter was given instruction by the Holy Spirit related to meeting those sent by Cornelius (cf. Acts 10:19-20). Again, he was specifically sent as part of his ministry to others known as “Gentiles” (cf. Acts 11:18).
Peter then began to speak regarding what applied to all: “And Peter, having opened the mouth, said, “Of a truth I understand that God is not One who shows partiality, but in every nation, the one fearing Him and working righteousness is acceptable to Him, the word that He sent to the sons of Israel, proclaiming the gospel, peace by Jesus Christ—He is Lord of all” (Acts 10:34-36).
The message included witnessing to Christ’s death on the cross, Christ’s resurrection, and that forgiveness of sins through the name of Jesus is available to all / “everyone believing in Him”: “And we are witnesses of all things that He did, both in the region of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they also put to death, having hanged Him on a tree. This One God raised up on the third day, and gave Him to become manifest, not to all the people, but to the witnesses having been chosen beforehand by God, to us who did eat with and drink with Him after His rising out from the dead. And He instructed us to proclaim to the people and to testify fully that He is the One having been appointed by God as judge of the living and the dead. To Him all the prophets bear witness that everyone believing in Him receives forgiveness of sins through His name” (Acts 10:39-43).
The full implications of this included the reality that Gentiles received salvation in the same manner as the Jews:
“Of Peter still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those hearing the word. And the believers from the circumcision, as many as had come with Peter, were amazed that the gift of the Holy Spirit has been poured out even upon the Gentiles. For they were hearing them speaking in tongues and magnifying God. Then Peter answered, “Is anyone able to withhold the water to baptize these who have received the Holy Spirit, just as we also have?”” (Acts 10:44-47).
After Peter shared with “the apostles and the brothers” (cf. Acts 11:1) about his preaching to the Gentiles about Christ’s death on the cross and His resurrection, they responded thusly: “And having heard these things, they were silent and glorified God, saying, “Then indeed God has given also to the Gentiles repentance unto life” (Acts 11:18).
More about what Peter had been privileged to reveal followed in Acts 15:7-9: “And much discussion having taken place, Peter having risen up, said to them, “Men, brothers, you know that from the early days God chose among you for the Gentiles to hear by my mouth the word of the gospel, and to believe. And the heart-knowing God bore witness to them, having given them the Holy Spirit, as also to us. And He made no distinction between both us and them, having purified their hearts by the faith.
James further noted in Acts 15:14 that “Simeon has related how God first visited to take out of the Gentiles a people for His name.” And of course, Paul and Barnabas were among those “apostles and the elders, brothers” (cf. Acts 15:23) who heard this and had “come with one accord” (cf. Acts 15:25). As far as apostles who are also biblical writers, in addition to what was written in his gospel account, the apostle John also spoke on such matters as part of his ministry:
1 John 2:2 — “My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you might not sin. And if anyone should sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous One. And He is the propitiation (atoning sacrifice) for our sins, and not only for ours, but also for those of the whole world.”
1 John 4:10 — “In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son as a propitiation (atoning sacrifice) for our sins.”
“5. The ministry of the twelve was based on covenant promises (Isaiah 60:1-3; Luke 1:70-79; Acts 3:22-26). Paul’s ministry was not based on covenant promises, but wholly on the grace of God through Christ (Rom.3:21-28; 5: 20,21; Eph.1:6,7; 2:7; etc.).”
Let’s look at some of the “etc.“:
Galatians 3:26-29 — “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male and female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Now if you are of Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, heirs according to the promise.”
It is indicated that everyone of ‘those believing’ who received salvation by grace through faith — from Genesis times (cf. Gal. 3:16) until the time of the Gentiles (cf. Romans 11:25, Eph. 3:3-7) — were recipients not through the law but through Christ and are ‘heirs according to the promise’. Was this a new dispensational thing, or was it always necessary for God’s people to be saved by grace through faith (Eph. 2:8-10)?
Galatians 3:5-9 “Therefore, the One supplying to you the Spirit and working miracles among you, is it out of works of the Law, or out of hearing of faith? So also, “Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness.” Know then that those of faith, these are sons of Abraham. And the Scripture, having foreseen that God justifies the Gentiles by faith, foretold the gospel to Abraham: “All the nations will be blessed in you.” So then, those of faith are blessed along with the believing Abraham.”
Romans 3:21-24 But now apart from Law, the righteousness of God has been revealed, being borne witness to by the Law and the Prophets. And the righteousness of God is through faith from Jesus Christ toward all those believing. For there is no distinction, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus”
Romans 3:29-30 “Or is He the God of Jews only, not also of Gentiles? Yes, also of Gentiles, since indeed God is the One who will justify the circumcision by faith and the uncircumcision through the same faith.”
Speaking of promises, here is Paul during his ministry (Acts 26:6-7):
“And now I stand being judged for the hope of the promise having been made by God to our fathers, to which our twelve tribes hope to attain, serving in earnestness night and day, the hope concerning which I am accused by the Jews, O king.”
Thank you!
Romans 1:16 ESV ?
Loads of Scripture. ?
This is some of the most unreasonable crap I’ve ever seen. To try to discredit the apostles Christ picked to build his Church, to try to elevate Paul, a great and holy saint, above the other equally great and holy apostles is ludicrous and reeks of a targeted and ignorant agenda. Like St. Paul, every one of the apostles Jesus chose gave their lives for Christ. They lived with him, walked with him, witnessed with and for him. They were given powers by him to heal and cast out demons, and you try to minimize that. You appear to read a Bible that eliminated the Gospels and Acts of the Apostles in favor of St. Paul’s Epistles only.
DI, as a Catholic, and one who chose, chose to be one, converted, studied, prayed, reads the Bible and histories, commentaries, Church Fathers, theology from many Christian teachers, I make no secret that I consider this and much of your stuff heretical, and so do others, others who are not Catholic, but devout and studied. We get emails from people concerned about you misleading people.
As admins we have considered re-doing The Chapel, where religious discussions took place in the early days, thus removing from the threads the religious stuff, which even more readers feel does not belong here. Some people email calling the open threads religious posts.
I make an effort in my observances and posts during Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter to keep my posts open to all, to hopefully make them something every Christian can learn from, enjoy, or share on.
Your abuse of the Treehouse to post heretical messages when there are millions of other sermons and Christian messages can only be taken in the mean and small spirit it is offered. It is unbiblical and harmful.
I have said this before, and it bears repeating. I am an admin, and I don’t want to, nor will I, try to force this site to be Catholic, or even Christian. We are a lot of things here, and most are worth either respecting, or tolerating.
I draw the line at heresy. I won’t be part of it, I won’t be silent, I won’t bear silent witness to it. I respect your desire to bear Christian witness. Share the Good News of Christ, not this. Share scripture, exhortation, encouragement. Like I said above, many things are starting points to share Christ. Why you’d chose to firebomb us instead is beyond me.
Whoa fellas, I thought we are all on the same side here. Personally, and admittedly not being in the least “studied” I may well be the last person here to attempt a referee role – however had I been a casual “passer – by” I would most definitely come away with the impression that the “Christians” are at it again – “I’m right, no, I’m right, I studied for 50 years, how long have you?? and on and on. People, this is not the time to divide, we must not allow the evil to open even the slightest crack in our unity. From my “simple” and perhaps “innocent” view (I prefer the term uncontaminated) I find no malice in Deplorable’s posts – perhaps he/she is trying to convey a concept, a different way of looking. What is so outrageous?? Or have we now sunk to the illusion that we know everything and have no need of further insight or change?? – A quick look around and I’m sorry to say, if THIS is our “know everything”, then by God, we have really failed to get the message.
Sigh. Why I’m not churched.
“And if I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.” Of all the verses contained in the Bible, and IMO – is precisely what the apostle Paul exemplified and was trying to persuade. The elevated level of love becomes compassion, which is exactly what the Christ lived – and is the point, is it not? If therefore the Christ is the higher level of love (compassion) then surely Paul would be the apostle of love – would the earth have a thousand, a million Pauls right now, I’d sleep like a baby. If ever a “convert” needed the assurance that despite the “law” old testament (to make sure we don’t drive it off into the ditch within the first day), if ever there was a “point” (to the unbeliever) then to me anyway this simple verse has the power of a bulldozer, and Paul a far more loving face – far more than the thunderous stick of the prophets, to “convince” the “new arrival” the simple absolute and undeniable plain truth that “In the Beginning, God…………” The rest of it is basically an explanation (for us sceptics/doubting Thomas types) – Ok, it’s a hell of a lot deeper than just “basic”, but it’ll come – then comes the wonder, the icing, the salvation, the light, the awakening, the Christ – and the point – “And if I have……………..”
Try reading all of DI’s comment and look up the scriptures too. Then read every word of Menagerie’s comments and come to some kind of conclusion rather than “deciding” that this is just some arcane religious discussion. I don’t look at your view as “simple” or “innocent” – it’s more lazy-minded. And yet you still have reached a conclusion about who is right and who is wrong.
Agreed Stella, and thank you. We Christians can agree on so many things, but most of us also recognize when something is harmful and misleading. It is not good, nor right, nor unifying to overlook those who misuse scripture, and rejecting the Gospels of Christ and elevating what you like is very counter to passing on Christ centered teachings.
These writers – Pastors Kurth, Stam, along with our friend DI, are mid-Acts dispensationalists, also known as hyper-dispensationalism. Briefly ~
“Ultra- or hyper-dispensationalism takes the basic tenets of normal dispensationalism to an extreme, resulting in unbiblical teachings. Another movement, known as mid-Acts dispensationalism, the Grace Movement, Acts 9 dispensationalism, or Acts 13 dispensationalism, takes a half-way position between classic dispensationalism and ultra-dispensationalism.
Instead of recognizing that the church began in Acts 2 when the disciples received the promised Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost, the ultra-dispensationalist inserts another dispensation and holds that the church did not begin until Paul’s imprisonment in Rome. Specifically, the seed of the church is found in Acts 28:28 when Paul says to the Jews in Rome who rejected the gospel, “I want you to know that God’s salvation has been sent to the Gentiles, and they will listen!”
According to ultra-dispensationalism, the four Gospels are for Jews only and have no bearing on the church. The book of Acts deals with a different “church” and not the body of Christ. Only the Prison Epistles of Paul are directed to the body of Christ or “mystery” church. Not even the book of Revelation addresses the church—the letters to the seven churches are written to the “Jewish” church of the tribulation. Also, most ultra-dispensationalists reject the ordinances of the church: water baptism and the Lord’s Supper were for the “Hebrew” church.
The greatest problem with ultra-dispensationalism is not its teaching about when the church began but the many other errors that come from its approach to Scripture. For example, at the heart of most forms of ultra-dispensationalism is the belief that Paul preached a different gospel from what the other apostles taught. Other false doctrines common in some forms of ultra-dispensationalism include soul sleep and annihilationism. Still others proclaim a brand of universalism that grants salvation even to Satan himself. Without a doubt, whatever name ultra-dispensationalism goes by, it is a dangerous error that almost always leads to other, even worse errors.
H. A. Ironside, a strong dispensationalist himself, wrote a good booklet outlining some of the dangers of ultra-dispensationalism. In it he says that he has “no hesitancy in saying that [ultra-dispensationalism’s] fruits are evil. It has produced a tremendous crop of heresies throughout the length and breadth of this and other lands; it has divided Christians and wrecked churches and assemblies without number; it has lifted up its votaries in intellectual and spiritual pride to an appalling extent, so that they look with supreme contempt upon Christians who do not accept their peculiar views; and in most instances where it has been long tolerated, it has absolutely throttled Gospel effort at home and sown discord on missionary fields abroad. So true are these things of this system that I have no hesitancy in saying it is an absolutely Satanic perversion of the truth” (Wrongly Dividing the Word of Truth, chapter 1, Loizeaux Brothers, 1938).”

See also, “What is mid-Acts dispensationalism?”
“. . . There are some other problems with mid-Acts dispensationalism. In particular, its views on salvation, water baptism, and the church’s origin are based on misunderstandings of some points of Scripture. Here are some of the difficulties inherent in the teaching that the church began with Paul:
To Paul were revealed the details of the church, which had been a “mystery” in the Old Testament (Colossians 1:25–27). Mid-Acts dispensationalism wrongly assumes that Paul’s revelation about the church equals the beginning of the church itself.
Mid-Acts dispensationalism misinterprets Galatians 2:7, “I [Paul] had been entrusted with the task of preaching the gospel to the uncircumcised, just as Peter had been to the circumcised.” The mid-Acts dispensationalist makes a distinction between a “gospel of circumcision,” taught by Peter, and a “gospel of uncircumcision,” taught by Paul. In reality, Paul is referring to different audiences, not different gospels. The Jews whom Peter ministered to were saved by grace through faith, just as the Gentiles to whom Paul ministered.
Mid-Acts dispensationalism or the Grace Movement denies the need for water baptism for believers. They believe that Jesus’ command in Matthew 28:19 is not for the church. They exclude water baptism on the basis that the baptism of the Spirit, which occurs at salvation, has replaced water baptism.
Mid-Acts dispensationalism overlooks the fact that Gentiles were part of the early church before Paul was converted. Acts 2:10–11 makes it clear that the crowd listening to Peter preach on the Day of Pentecost included Gentile proselytes to Judaism. And Acts 8 shows how Samaritans and an Ethiopian were baptized into Christ before Paul ever started preaching the doctrine of the church or of grace. Thus there was a joint church body of Jews and Gentiles before Paul began his ministry.
Most importantly, mid-Acts dispensationalism or the Grace Movement claims there are “different gospels,” one taught by Peter and one taught by Paul. But the Old Testament (and the first part of the New Testament) does not teach salvation by works; the Jews in Galilee were not saved a different way from the Gentiles in Achaia.
Mid-Acts dispensationalism is opposed to several elements of orthodoxy. Its downplaying of half of the New Testament, its unwarranted exclusion of early Jewish believers from the body of Christ, its disregard of water baptism, and its allowance for a faith-plus-works gospel make the Grace Movement an unbiblical view.”

Thank you for taking the time to share this information; had not heard this terminology before, dispensationalism and ultra-dispensationalism.
It explains a lot, where my mind would simply revert to “In my Father’s house are many mansions, I go to prepare a place for you, if it were not so I would have told you” and would see those ‘many mansions’ as the rooms prepared for the souls who have chosen to adhere to particular practices of the One God, who loves all, has created all, for His purposes, or look at the ‘many mansions’ as the many facets on the one beautiful diamond of Life.
Which is why I usually skip right over these religious posts, we all have our own personal calling to be responsible for and to attempt to require others to adhere when it is not to the benefit of their calling, is just, well, rude. So when Menagerie takes time to make a point, there is good reason to stop, take a look at what is being put down, and listen.
I like these definitions regarding despensationalism very much; it explains a lot of what I have seen over the years. Thank you.
You’re very welcome, Bessie2003.
To tell you the truth, I usually hold my tongue and just skip over those knowing the real agenda behind them.
But Menagerie’s bulls-eye smack-down this morning got me going ?
I encourage you to explore the theologically sound website I referenced.

Blessings.
Have saved the link; thank you.
Interesting, but are those terms created within these movements as self-appellations, or is that some classification scheme imposed on them from outside? Are those descriptions fully accurate, or are they an exaggeration meant to demean?
There is always a delicate balance needed. Some groups don’t look honestly at themselves or their pasts. And other groups don’t look honestly at those who aren’t part of the group.
It is best to always lend more weight to what people say about themselves than to what people say about others. But neither should be absolutely trusted.
But it is really funny saying that people who thoroughly quote scripture are unbiblical.
BTW, the got questions people literally say that Catholics can be saved despite the Church teachings. A whole lot of divisiveness goin’ on there.
Take what helps and leave the rest.
An older friend used to say:
“Eat the fish, and leave the bones”
Thanks for sharing this. It explains a lot. Christianity is more than “I’m okay, you’re okay.” If we reject the Gospels we reject Christ. That’s a teaching too far for me to just be okay with.
Some Biblical scholars have traced this war between Pauline Christians and those who would follow the works of all the Apostles, including later followers of Christ such as Paul, back to the time when decisions were made as to what to put into the Bible, and what was to be omitted, including the Apocrypha – the battle rages on.
Personally, I agree with you and I think that in-depth religious discussion belongs in another place other than the Open Thread. Like politics, which has its own place here, we should once again provide a place for this. I am all for opening a Chapel site again.
Also agree on this option.
Me too. Not everyone wants to be subjected to this, and I agree.
I have thought it odd that there are Christians who say believe in Christ, but belittle Christ’s Word because that was Kingdom stuff. But at least they say believe in Christ.
The variety of beliefs possible through faith in the Bible is staggering. But that pales in comparison with the nonsense created by researchers who feel free to add or subtract whatever they please to create weird stories. Usually with the intent of destroying faith in Christ.
Unfortunately, there are long histories of hating on fellow Christians. That is what happens when we go to war with each other. Those wars ended long ago, but the hatreds lived on. Some of those have been internalized into theological beliefs and had scripture employed to proselytize those fellow Christian hating beliefs. When such malice has been internalized into belief, that belief can’t be shared without doing harm to the hated.
Step back and think about how well blaming Jews for Christ’s death goes over with Jewish people. Their term for that is blood libel. Such teachings have encouraged discrimination against, and persecution and murder of Jews by Christians over two millennia. And we complain about blaming us for past slavery.
Thankfully, most of all of these hatreds have subsided. (Getting protestants to buy in to a Catholic President was a major achievement back in 1960.) Groups that used to fight have joined in fellowship and harmony. And it is very unlikely that the teachings above were shared with malice. Very few of us teach about Christ’s death with malice. We want to share our faith in Christ. So too do our posters.
But it should also be important to try to be aware of and try to avoid harm our posts can engender. Especially when that harm is not our intent.

Beautiful…
Brought a tear to my eye because our family sponsored a Koala who was hit by a car and taken to the local koala hospital. As a result of his accident Jonesy was permanently blinded in 1 eye and had limited vision in the other so he couldn’t be released back into the wild. He was thus a permanent resident until recently when he had to be euthanised. We will be sponsoring another koala in memory of our precious Jonesy.
Dear,
The ultimate goal at Port Macquarie Koala Hospital is to be caring, reduce harm and ensure our koalas have a good quality life.
During a regular assessment and observation of Byabarra Jones his increasing pacing behaviour became a major concern. Pacing in koalas is a recognised ‘stress’ behaviour. Animals who are in a constant state of stress have a significantly reduced quality of life and we know stress takes a huge toll on the body physically and mentally.
Jonesy was exerting far more energy than a normal, relaxed koala. We consulted with several highly experienced vets specialising in wildlife care. We believe that Jonesy was suffering, experiencing constant stress and anxiety so we made the very difficult decision to euthanase him.
This was a really tough decision but we asked ourselves, do we want our Koalas to be in pain? Do we want to keep koalas that are not managing stress and anxiety levels?
Jonesy was much loved by all his carers and adopters and will be sadly missed. Rest in Peace, Jonesy!
While there are 16 koalas available for adoption in the ‘Adopt a Wild Koala’ programme, we treat over 250 koalas a year. We hope that you will leave your adoption in place until it is due for renewal. This will allow us to continue to care for all the koalas who come through the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital. If you choose to do this, you don’t need to do anything and we will contact you about a month before your adoption is due to expire. #center

I do pray whoever put that website together never have a family member murdered and discover the next day that there is a group of people on the internet informing the world that their loved one is not really dead, that they are in fact part of a vast conspiracy.
Creating a site with random, disjointed internet photos and placing them one after another as if that is proof of anything, riding on the back of the grief of the family and friends of the dead, is a very cruel game.
Agree massively.

THE NOTION OF DIVINE CONTROL
“How much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask Him?” Matthew vii. 11
Jesus is laying down rules of conduct for those who have His Spirit. By the simple argument of these verses He urges us to keep our minds filled with the notion of God’s control behind everything, which means that the disciple must maintain an attitude of perfect trust and an eagerness to ask and to seek.
Notion your mind with the idea that God is there. If once the mind is notioned along that line, then when you are in difficulties it is as easy as breathing to remember – Why, my Father knows all about it! It is not an effort, it comes naturally when perplexities press. Before, you used to go to this person and that, but now the notion of the Divine control is forming so powerfully in you that you go to God about it. Jesus is laying down the rules of conduct for those who have His Spirit, and it works on this principle – God is my Father, He loves me, I shall never think of anything He will forget, why should I worry?
There are times, says Jesus, when God cannot lift the darkness from you, but trust Him. God will appear like an unkind friend, but He is not; He will appear like an unnatural Father, but He is not; He will appear like an unjust judge, but He is not. Keep the notion of the mind of God behind all things strong and growing. Nothing happens in any particular unless God’s will is behind it, therefore you can rest in perfect confidence in Him. Prayer is not only asking, but an attitude of mind which produces the atmosphere in which asking is perfectly natural. “Ask, and it shall be given you.”

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow, that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, amen.

Good morning America, 😉
“featuring Alison Krauss”…..always worth a listen!
To be honest, only reason for posting it. I’m not too familiar with Brads work.
Majority of my country music is 1980 and older.
Local shelters and rescue groups being flooded with owner surrender dogs. People’s lives returning to normal and they are surrendering dogs adopted during the lock downs.
Shame on them.

The Jesus Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy upon me, a sinner.

My hope is the Father, my refuge the Son, my protection the Holy Spirit. O Holy Trinity, glory to Thee.
After hearing Roger Goodell’s drivel about institutional racism any enthusiasm I had about the 2021 NFL season has pretty much vanished. He patronizes black folks while alienating everybody else .
The announcement of singing the black national anthem at every NFL game ensures they’ll not get a single minute of my time.
Ever. Including the super bowl. ??
Nice tune to turn in to – being lazy minded and all.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and his family as they seek to lead America back to You. Also, we pray for Angels to protect and support our Sundance as he works for justice and peace.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
