Brearley is a private all-girls school on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York City. Tuition costs $54,000 a year and prospective families apparently have to take an “anti-racism pledge” to be considered for admission. However, one family has had enough of the indoctrination machine and penned an eloquent letter explaining their reason for removing their daughter.
April 13, 2021
Dear Fellow Brearley Parents,
Our family recently made the decision not to reenroll our daughter at Brearley for the 2021-22 school year. She has been at Brearley for seven years, beginning in kindergarten. In short, we no longer believe that Brearley’s administration and Board of Trustees have any of our children’s best interests at heart. Moreover, we no longer have confidence that our daughter will receive the quality of education necessary to further her development into a critically thinking, responsible, enlightened, and civic minded adult. I write to you, as a fellow parent, to share our reasons for leaving the Brearley community but also to urge you to act before the damage to the school, to its community, and to your own child’s education is irreparable.
It cannot be stated strongly enough that Brearley’s obsession with race must stop. It should be abundantly clear to any thinking parent that Brearley has completely lost its way. The administration and the Board of Trustees have displayed a cowardly and appalling lack of leadership by appeasing an anti-intellectual, illiberal mob, and then allowing the school to be captured by that same mob. What follows are my own personal views on Brearley’s antiracism initiatives, but these are just a handful of the criticisms that I know other parents have expressed.
I object to the view that I should be judged by the color of my skin. I cannot tolerate a school that not only judges my daughter by the color of her skin, but encourages and instructs her to prejudge others by theirs. By viewing every element of education, every aspect of history, and every facet of society through the lens of skin color and race, we are desecrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and utterly violating the movement for which such civil rights leaders believed, fought, and died.
I object to the charge of systemic racism in this country, and at our school. Systemic racism, properly understood, is segregated schools and separate lunch counters. It is the interning of Japanese and the exterminating of Jews. Systemic racism is unequivocally not a small number of isolated incidences over a period of decades. Ask any girl, of any race, if they have ever experienced insults from friends, have ever felt slighted by teachers or have ever suffered the occasional injustice from a school at which they have spent up to 13 years of their life, and you are bound to hear grievances, some petty, some not. We have not had systemic racism against Blacks in this country since the civil rights reforms of the 1960s, a period of more than 50 years. To state otherwise is a flat-out misrepresentation of our country’s history and adds no understanding to any of today’s societal issues. If anything, longstanding and widespread policies such as affirmative action, point in precisely the opposite direction.
I object to a definition of systemic racism, apparently supported by Brearley, that any educational, professional, or societal outcome where Blacks are underrepresented is prima facie evidence of the aforementioned systemic racism, or of white supremacy and oppression. Facile and unsupported beliefs such as these are the polar opposite to the intellectual and scientific truth for which Brearley claims to stand. Furthermore, I call bullshit on Brearley’s oft-stated assertion that the school welcomes and encourages the truly difficult and uncomfortable conversations regarding race and the roots of racial discrepancies.
I object to the idea that Blacks are unable to succeed in this country without aid from government or from whites. Brearley, by adopting critical race theory, is advocating the abhorrent viewpoint that Blacks should forever be regarded as helpless victims, and are incapable of success regardless of their skills, talents, or hard work. What Brearley is teaching our children is precisely the true and correct definition of racism.
I object to mandatory anti-racism training for parents, especially when presented by the rent-seeking charlatans of Pollyanna. These sessions, in both their content and delivery, are so sophomoric and simplistic, so unsophisticated and inane, that I would be embarrassed if they were taught to Brearley kindergarteners. They are an insult to parents and unbecoming of any educational institution, let alone one of Brearley’s caliber.
I object to Brearley’s vacuous, inappropriate, and fanatical use of words such as “equity,” “diversity” and “inclusiveness.” If Brearley’s administration was truly concerned about so-called “equity,” it would be discussing the cessation of admissions preferences for legacies, siblings, and those families with especially deep pockets. If the administration was genuinely serious about “diversity,” it would not insist on the indoctrination of its students, and their families, to a single mindset, most reminiscent of the Chinese Cultural Revolution. Instead, the school would foster an environment of intellectual openness and freedom of thought. And if Brearley really cared about “inclusiveness,” the school would return to the concepts encapsulated in the motto “One Brearley,” instead of teaching the extraordinarily divisive idea that there are only, and always, two groups in this country: victims and oppressors.
l object to Brearley’s advocacy for groups and movements such as Black Lives Matter, a Marxist, anti family, heterophobic, anti-Asian and anti-Semitic organization that neither speaks for the majority of the Black community in this country, nor in any way, shape or form, represents their best interests.
I object to, as we have been told time and time again over the past year, that the school’s first priority is the safety of our children. For goodness sake, Brearley is a school, not a hospital! The number one priority of a school has always been, and always will be, education. Brearley’s misguided priorities exemplify both the safety culture and “cover-your-ass” culture that together have proved so toxic to our society and have so damaged the mental health and resiliency of two generations of children, and counting.
I object to the gutting of the history, civics, and classical literature curriculums. I object to the censorship of books that have been taught for generations because they contain dated language potentially offensive to the thin-skinned and hypersensitive (something that has already happened in my daughter’s 4th grade class). I object to the lowering of standards for the admission of students and for the hiring of teachers. I object to the erosion of rigor in classwork and the escalation of grade inflation. Any parent with eyes open can foresee these inevitabilities should antiracism initiatives be allowed to persist.
We have today in our country, from both political parties, and at all levels of government, the most unwise and unvirtuous leaders in our nation’s history. Schools like Brearley are supposed to be the training grounds for those leaders. Our nation will not survive a generation of leadership even more poorly educated than we have now, nor will we survive a generation of students taught to hate its own country and despise its history.
Lastly, I object, with as strong a sentiment as possible, that Brearley has begun to teach what to think, instead of how to think. I object that the school is now fostering an environment where our daughters, and our daughters’ teachers, are afraid to speak their minds in class for fear of “consequences.” I object that Brearley is trying to usurp the role of parents in teaching morality, and bullying parents to adopt that false morality at home. I object that Brearley is fostering a divisive community where families of different races, which until recently were part of the same community, are now segregated into two. These are the reasons why we can no longer send our daughter to Brearley.
Over the past several months, I have personally spoken to many Brearley parents as well as parents of children at peer institutions. It is abundantly clear that the majority of parents believe that Brearley’s antiracism policies are misguided, divisive, counterproductive and cancerous. Many believe, as I do, that these policies will ultimately destroy what was until recently, a wonderful educational institution. But as I am sure will come as no surprise to you, given the insidious cancel culture that has of late permeated our society, most parents are too fearful to speak up.
But speak up you must. There is strength in numbers and I assure you, the numbers are there. Contact the administration and the Board of Trustees and demand an end to the destructive and anti-intellectual claptrap known as antiracism. And if changes are not forthcoming then demand new leadership. For the sake of our community, our city, our country and most of all, our children, silence is no longer an option.
Respectfully,
Andrew Gutmann

Gutmann has guts. He’s going to need our prayers. the commissars will be out for him.
He’ll be lucky if ol’ CyruVance Jr doesn’t subpoena his tax returns for the last ten years, and bring him up on some faux tax offense.
Like you said, he has guts.
From this well written letter it seems his child would be well served to be home schooled by him.
This exact thing has happened at my once enviable prep school alma mater, my fourth-generation legacy nieces and nephews are now homeschooled because of this. Very big names, whose children still attend, have publicly kowtowed to this same movement there. Sad.
I will point out that my kids’ public school in GA has NOT followed this path. Just saying.
Apparently, the parents care about their children enough to make sure that they are not indoctrinated by marxists.
Are you sure of that?
My twins’ 7th grade teacher was indoctrinating her class about hating America and blaming America for everything. I stumbled onto this teaching when she ask me to deliver empty pop cans to the recycling center…. 50 miles away.
I asked my twins what they were raising the money for. They said to help pay for a memorial of a child killed by our nuclear bombs in Japan.
I went into her class the next day and told her never to teach my children to be ashamed of being born because their grandfather, my father would have been one of the soldiers who invaded Japan and may have not survived. That bomb saved many lives of Americans and of Japan. This was over 40 years ago and I live in a very rural community in Nebraska.
I would venture to say that this man is a Liberal and it looks like he may just have seen the light. Good for him. Slowly but surely we will bring these people into our tent.
He is a good man.
Couldn’t resist the pun: this man has guts.
I commend Mr. Gutmann for having the courage to speak the truth! There’s not one thing he said that I don’t agree with!! I pray that his letter is read by millions and all that agree with him, stand with him, especially parents with children, in all schools! As he said (and is often spoken of here at CTH) there is strength in numbers!! It’s truly time for like minded people, of all colors, all ethic backgrounds, whether rich, poor or middle class, to peacefully protest for our freedom, our Republic but most importantly our children and grandchildren! If not we will have nothing!
I will pray for him and his family!
My son spent 6 years in an excellent (until now) private school. Was graduated in 2012. When the new woke headmaster came in and started with the diversity and inclusion and white privilege letters to parents and alums he wrote back and told them exactly why he would not be donating another $ to the school. Not that he donated very much, but he loved his school and wanted to support it. I wonder who these schools think will support them in the future with the big buck donations they are used to receiving…….
Good and important point. Alumni play an important role in ending this. I know I am watching my alma mater and will not hesitate tearing up my degree and sending it back should they decide to go off the deep end on this matter.
Many people have known years ago, and paid a lot less for school,
than what the parent of a student at Brearley got a late desire to write to other parents.
They (many schools) incrementally, ideologically, fundamentally transform – and ‘they’ very often do not publicly spell out their spurious goal(s) to parents or students.
It took Mr. Gutman 7 years to gather the clues. Most of the time it was overlooked.
Some do not gather the clues, and let them really sink in, between-the-ears until way, way past graduation, if then.
The friendly alumni telephone calls today often find more inquisitive people responding and discussing matters – of what is really going on.
However, the donation of $ level. for some, has already been zero for years due to being uninterested in contributing to (hidden) malfeasance(s), that miss uses peoples school pride, loyalty, and prior education experience that does not morally, or technically add up to the education level, decades ago.
(although. often untold. current grades inflation (the curve) / curriculum softening may cause some to miss think otherwise, for years).
[Internationally, comparative US education scores have been dropping, sliding for a couple of decades ]

What was the curriculum replacement wisdom, when they took the bible out of the school?
( a whole host of (intended) inadequacies, mis-programs etc. )
What was the replacement for discipline of mis-behavior(s)?

How many times does one think that the teachers union, and department of education have received a similar letter in the last 10-30 years? [ and /or chose to ignore, or use it leverage funding away / to a school? ]
Similarly, how long has a DOJ obfuscated the loss of 15,000 emails related to a public, u.s. secretary of state?

THEY will have Sonos money, and soon, THAT TOO, will be audited and taken….CAN’T wait!!!
The Chinese…who got their wealth from US through the chicanery of our corrupt leaders.
I usually send a few hundred to my NW coast teacher school. Last year I asked that the money be given to a conservative teacher. They claimed they had no way to find any conservatives and sent the check back to me. This year, I’m sending it to Hillsdale, even though I am not an alumna of that institution.
My family and I donate to Hillsdale even though none of us went there and we don’t donate to any schools that we did attend. My donation to the college my son attended was the full bust out retail rate tuition I paid. They won’t get another penny more from me. If my son wants to donate that’s his business.
Bravo.
Hopefully it impacts their enrollment and their finances.
Wonderful letter!! Having the guts to follow through and yank your children out of these “woke” indoctrination centers is the only thing that will save this country and future generations.
When these educators/schools see their money leaving then they might wake up. Apparently money is the only thing that motivates people anymore.
You go Mr. Gutmann…you are my hero.
and the Brearley School response, the victim card.
https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2021/04/raceobsessed_brearley_school_claims_victimhood_when_challenged.html
Wow. That’s several layers of crazy right there.
Totally tone deaf.
This is so good, you should have shared part of the response to get people to read whole thing…
Brearley responded with a letter from Principal Jane Fried. It demonstrated how the wokerati invariably cast themselves as victims. And I do mean victims: Fried speaks of physical and psychic terror as if Gutmann had threatened their lives rather than challenging their beliefs. The website at which the letter originally appeared is gone, but this is the text:
“Many have written to say that they found the opinions expressed in the letter to be deeply offensive and harmful, and we agree.”
I bet Ms. Fried would never say how many more have written and expressed agreement. She can’t/won’t say because it will absolutely destroy her narrative.
“This afternoon, I and others who work closely with Upper School students met with more than one hundred of them, many of whom told us that they felt frightened and intimidated by the letter and the fact that it was sent directly to their homes.“
Precisely as Mr. Gutmann pointed out. You are not educating your students you are indoctrinating them.
They will get no letter of agreement, potential authors would be cancelled and their livelihoods denied them.
Based on that, I’d say you couldn’t pull your children out fast enough. There must be a fairly good market for private (any) schools that put emphasis on teaching objective thinking skills and fostering a creative and fact based approach to ideas and reaching conclusions. Thinking outside the box should be encouraged and often leads to advancements in both knowledge and society as a whole. We don’t attend school to narrow our point of view, but to broaden it.
“…and intimidated by the letter and the fact that it was sent directly to their homes. ”
I wonder if being intimidated is a natural reaction to others knowing your address. I would wonder how someone got my address. That may be the only reason many of those families disagreed with Mr. Gutmann.
(Mine is just an aside comment. I love the letter and plan to copy it and use it as my cheat sheet when I call the private school my grandsons attend.)
“We are better than this…” translates to “We have no argument” and always brings a smile to my face.
Did she even read Mr. Gutmann’s letter?
A line from a movie comes to mind regarding this situation.
“If I were the man I was five years ago, I’d take a flamethrower to this place!”
Seems appropriate.
That reply is so weak.
This letter could convey the sentiments of parents in 98.7% of the schools in our country.
Indeed, like Martin Luther at Wittenberg, this letter should be nailed to the door of every public school and school administration building.
Being a math professor at a community college in Texas, I have felt somewhat insulted from the woke nonsense. However, I have witnessed the following: 1) Not a single White Male has been hired in my department for the last ten years. 2) The college president forced on up a “math” class that is essentially without content in order to provide a “pathway” for minorities. This course was later cancelled when the State legislature removed it and all remedial courses from the curriculum. 3) As a judge for honors student presentations, I witnessed talk after talk spewing hatred against this country. In good conscience, I could no longer serve in that capacity, nor did I wish to listen to those sorts of diatribes anymore. 4) Our college president seldom hires White males. Each year, she presents the new hires on stage at our opening ceremonies. She may line up 25 new hires, only 2 or 3 of whom may be White males. Welcome to woke Texas.
Insulated, not insulted. Darned autocorrect.
Actually, I thought insulted was not an inappropriate word. I’m retired but work part time at a community college in Houston. I’m insulted every fall when I have to endure 6 – 8 hours of “Safe Colleges” B.S. and subjected to the too frequent “Diversity / Inclusion” newsletters the growing bureaucracy broadcasts. So far, all the people I work with are wonderful, levelheaded people and the students are mostly respectful. But I can sure see how the infection is spreading.
Living in Texas it seems to me the “community college” system is little more than a remedial college to teach what should have been taught/learned in high school! But I could be wrong.
An Arizona community college superintendent gave a talk years ago to the local community in which, after the K-12 school reps gave glowing reviews of themselves, he lamented that his school had to provide remedial classes to an unbelievably large fraction of their graduates before they could officially begin college studies.
Female presidents who aren’t qualified for their positions rule by runaway power and emotion, not common sense and intelligence.
Most female presidents of community colleges in Texas have an Ed. D, yep, the same degree as “doctor” jill biden.
That is a helluva letter Andrew Gutmann. You speak for a very large portion of thinking Americans.
Of course there will be blowback teeth gnashing and pearl clutching. To hell with these Marxists and anti-intellectual conformist sheep.
Give em hell Andrew, you are a very smart and courageous man. This letter is a damned masterpiece — young Ms Gutmann will read this to her kids some day.
You have a lot of supporters 100% behind you Andrew.
WELL DONE SIR
BRAVO
Not enough people with courage, some people need to lead. This gentleman is one. We need more, we need to lead.
If you want to know how bad it is, who is doing it and where it’s happening (because if it’s happening here, it’s happening EVERYWHERE!) read the links below: must reads for every parent of school age children:

PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF WHERE THIS PERSON WENT TO SCHOOL:

The school responded with a letter to all the same people and said that some were terrified to have received the letter from Andrew Guttman. Effectively, doubling-tripling-down on their position in regards to critical race theory, struggle sessions (Communist forced confessions), white guilt, and cancel culture.
Time will tell if all is lost or if there are enough powerful people who step up to force the school to abandon their insanity that has occurred already with other prestigious private schools. The tuition for this private girls school is more than most universities. On par with the cost of the Ivy League. Mr Gutmann is a NYC executive investment banker. Most of the students parents are as wealthy and powerful including those who are people of color. There are many Indian and Asian parents as well as plenty of Black parents. This is not about race, it’s about tearing down established norms and building up Communist towers of power.
The US is effectively Sovietized [the adoption of a way of life, mentality, and culture modelled after the Soviet Union] where individuals standing up will figuratively have their heads chopped off. We didn’t win the Cold War. They came in through the back door of culture, and politics is downstream from culture.
We were warned.
“Political correctness is communist propaganda writ small. In my studies of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, not to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is in some small way to become evil oneself. One’s standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and is intended to.” – Anthony Malcolm Daniels, MD
Examples of the above:

Excellent examples!!! You could not have been more precise.
very good!
I can only imagine how he feels today after four more years of accelerating rot.
Go woke we will see to it, your broke!
STOP LYING!
There’s nothing “racist” about the Election Integrity Act, and it’s certainly not “Jim Crow 2.0.”
Your lies are now devastating minority small businesses in Atlanta following the MLB’s decision to move its All-Star Game to Denver, resulting in a loss of $100 million in business. Enough is enough.

I applaud Mr. Gutmann and his eloquence. I have taught for 28 years in public schools. The indoctrination of ‘what to think’ supercedes all else. I hesitate to encourage anyone to become a teacher in today’s hostile, anti-education environment.
This needs to be shouted from the rooftops! I am dead certain this garbage is being promulgated at more private AND public schools than we know. Critical race theory is civilization destroying and dead wrong.
I told you all so. Anybody who thinks vouchers are going to solve the problem shouldn’t after this, I kept telling you it isn’t just the public schools.
Dismantling the whole public school system and switching to home learning, like in previous centuries, isn’t going to happen, and I contend that the ‘free’ public education entitlement to all Americans and legal residents is one of the things that made America great.
Commies buy property in neighborhoods with good PUBLIC schools and leave their kids there by themselves.
Governor DeSantis of Florida is on the right track, he realizes that a good solid civics education is something that’s been badly lacking in ALL our schools, and that is something that has enabled the anti-American communist indoctrination, in part.
Betsy was a lousy pick for Education. President Trump was kind of at sea there, what did he know about public schools? He wanted to fix things, he just didn’t have the right people in there helping him, as the entirety of the education establishment is pretty corrupt in one way or another.
BTW I have read that today’s “journalists” have increasingly come from the ranks of private school alumni. That’s a problem right there.
.
The “good” public schools are in upper middle-class neighborhoods. They are not “good” because of money differentials in per pupil spending. Or better teachers. They are “good” because of the students in them who test out higher and achieve more. Those students have parents who are upper middle class successful because they themselves were better students. Genes and culture. “Good” and “bad” schools are found in the same school systems.
Parent involvement is key. It’s what built our school system, then leftists took notice and started flocking here. Property values shot up, requiring a dual income or extraordinary single income entry. Now, “working moms” “don’t have time” to devote to schools. I would move today if my hubby could truly get away from the flagpole. It’s not the same community when kids are raising themselves.
Civics AND Economics!
Start inside your 4 walls. Start, around the Thanksgiving dinner table (before the nap-trigger kicks in), of telling the tale of the Plymouth Colony, of how they damned near starved to death, and why.
I was talking school. Dear Badger, you have no idea…all of my kids live on the left coast. The last time I saw them all together was thanksgiving 2019. One of my kids is not speaking to me. I’ve managed to navigate relationships with the other 3…no politics! No one has been “inside my 4 wall for two years.” Scared of the “virus.” With all due respect, the Plymouth Colony is the least of my problems right now.
It’s a nation wide problem getting worse with Biden adding the New York Times’s 1619 Project to replace Trump promoted 1776 Commission.
I understand. Can I take a moment to worry about my family?
Trump had to make do and he did. He offered the position to Eva Moskowitz, an NYC Democrat who has done an OUTSTANDING job running the NYC Success Charter Academies.
However, living and working in a totalitarian Democrat city, Moskowitz could not serve the public nationally without having her Success Academy work wrecked by NYC Politicians (they have tried hard to shut down the Success Academies, but too many parents want them and have prevailed so far over massively negative press power).
Party/gang loyalty over national/community loyalty is a disaster. We need to run our schools locally, and sponsor effective charities to run decent schools where the community is not able on its own.
I will throw in that I was utterly disgusted by partisan attacks aimed at Michelle Obama’s school lunch initiative. Nutrition is important and affects academic ability (and every other life project). Conservatives should have taken up the school lunch project and run with it enthusiastically. I was so disappointed by partisan positioning on that particular topic.
Isn’t it ironic? We have installed anti-bullying programs in most of our schools by now, and what has been accomplished is that bullying is more widespread than ever before.
It has just changed in nature.
Mr. Gutmann you are the epitome of Sundance’s post from yesterday. Courage. May many more parents follow Mr. Gutmann’s lead.
Outstanding and passionate letter! We cannot afford to lose another generation to this BS. Prior, it was low key, now, it’s just divisive, to the point of tearing into the minds of children and poisoning their minds.
That is not education, it’s child abuse.
God bless Mr. Gutmann!
God bless this man and his powerful eloquence.
Reverse Cognitive Behavior Therapy is now at this school…creating anxiousness, paranoia and fragility. The coddling of the American mind.
Yes! Yes! Yes!
I’m standing- clapping – and CHEERING for Andrew Gutmann and his letter.
This letter says it ALL.
All of us, and especially parents of school aged children take heed and action – action – action!
Thank you, Andrew Gutmann.
“We have today in our country, from both political parties, and at all levels of government, the most unwise and unvirtuous leaders in our nation’s history….”
So true – it is going to take a lot to up-end this nefarious rot that has washed over the cowards who run things in this country.
Virginia parents group launches PAC to unseat school board members over reopening, race controversies

Excerpt:
A political action committee (PAC) launched Tuesday with the intent of unseating multiple school board members in one of Virginia’s most populous counties because of an ongoing feud over critical race theory.
The Loudoun County school board members showed a complete “misunderstanding of their duties and responsibility as elected officials,” reads a press release from Fight for Schools PAC.
Excellent!

Brearly’s response, if they even give one, will be that the letter is proof that they are right. And that the man who wrote it is an example of the systemic racism they are proudly battling, who by his words demonstrates that Brearly needs to expand its anti-racism programs.
See the article on American Thinker concerning the school’s reply.

Communist Chinese “cultural revolution” was the foundation of todays “cancel culture. The communist party issued a “red book” to every Chinese citizen from the day they were born. In this “red book” it instructs the people of what to say and NOT what say. How to behave and how to act. We don’t just have to nip cancel culture in the bud, we have to grab it by the stem and pull it out off the ground roots and all. If we don’t, we will be issued the “blue book”.
An image of a man holding a bag of groceries in each hand stood in front of a battle tank at Tiniamin Square in Bejing reverberated around the world. That was the beginning of the end of the cultural revolution.

So it’s not just the military [sarc]?
Gutmann’s point (he had many eloquent ones) about the inanity of judging people by their skin color is so fundamental, so sound, that it’s simply amazing that anyone can make a policy comment on either side which labels swaths of people as categories.
A policy comment is the term I am using to describe a label used in formal business communications. For example, if a corporation issues a memo to employees and categorizes people by race, skin color, or geographical origin (African American, white, Asian, etc.), they are engaging in persecution by stereotype.
A person is Virginian, American, Sudanese, etc., in accordance with his residence or passport; he is not African American. He is an American of Scotch-Irish extraction or Laotian descent, if he so chooses to engage in conversation with others about such things. For official paperwork purposes, like job applications or passports and such, he should have no race; it serves no purpose.
Hell, most of the problems today revolving around race would have ceased years ago had nobody been tracking everyone’s “race”. Pocahontas Warren–Beer Slayer herself– would have had to take a different path to/through college, and we likely would never had heard her name or been exposed to her inanities. Race hustlers would be zeroes today The list goes on. Obama would never have risen to state senate. Biden would be privately rocking in his chair at home by the window, where he belongs.
All of this due to classification by race. People should be rude and direct in rejection of such immoral and harmful acts as making policy and preference in accordance with “race”.

Great letter. I loved the “I call bullshit” phrase. It applies to our entire educational system. The educational establishment is run by selfish, ignorant morons.
Seems Mr.Gutmann can’t get past his own indoctrination when decrying that inflicted upon his daughter. In an otherwise well written essay, it’s noteworthy that he chose to capitalize the word ‘black’ but neglected to do so for the word ‘white.’ Numerous times, at that. I wonder why that is. Just a typo, you suppose? Hardly, for he obviously spent a good amount of time in editing and proofreading his letter before submitting.
No, the real reason is that he is very much a creature of the left: his choice of school, his choice of business, his choice of residence, his choice of friends all speak to being a leftist. The only thing that somewhat distinguishes him from his likewise lefty neighbors is that the consequences of his choices are revealed to him and that hits just a little too close to home.
Celebrate this leftist if you desire, but know that up until this moment I can guarantee you that if you showed up in his neighborhood wearing a MAGA hat, his pitchfork and torch would be the sharpest and brightest.
There really isn’t anything not to like in this letter.
One particular paragraph I especially liked was “I object to mandatory anti-racism training for parents, especially when presented by the rent-seeking charlatans of Pollyanna. These sessions, in both their content and delivery, are so sophomoric and simplistic, so unsophisticated and inane, that I would be embarrassed if they were taught to Brearley kindergarteners. They are an insult to parents and unbecoming of any educational institution, let alone one of Brearley’s caliber.”
I noted the same thing as diversity training started to show up in the corporate world decades ago. The “Diversity is our Strength” nonsense ran its course and thousands of consultants made millions, if not billions, of dollars, teaching this nonsense and not adding a dollar to the bottom line. They even managed to get diversity managers in the HR departments. One didn’t publicly utter a word in opposition because your career would be harmed, but in private conversations my collogues saw it for what it was.
Now these same group of blood suckers have upped their game with the critical race theory BS, using intimidation against all who oppose.
I’ll give these con-artists with the worthless fill-in-the-blank-studies degrees a passing grade in making work for themselves and their graduates.
“Diversity is our Strength” aka hire more LGBQWERTY, less than 2% of the aggregate population.
My wife (mostly my wife) White with a 200 years ago bit of Cherokee & I, white, homeschooled our two children, back in the ’80s & ’90s, from a Biblical, critical thinking and conservative mindset, because of what we saw as bad in the NM public schools back then.
Easter weekend, we posed for our yearly family picture with our kids, their spouses and 9 of our 10 grandchildren….
In today’s “stupid”, which grandchildren should we favor? In the mix are white, black, Cherokee, Creek Indian & Mexican descents. The lighter ones? The darker ones? The boys? The girls?
And yes, they are all being homeschooled as well.
Sounds like you both done good.
Great letter and good analysis of just what is going on in schools across the nation.
Hope the majority of the other parents will support him.
My goodness with forking out $54,000 a year they could hire a private teacher for thier child or a group of parents could set up their own private school with enough teachers to teach every subject and class.
New York Post:
“Chelsea Clinton, Tina Fey, Drew Barrymore and Steve Martin are among those with daughters enrolled at Brearley. Tuition is $54,000 per year. Famous alumnae of the 761-student, K-12 school include Caroline Kennedy, Jill Clayburgh, Téa Leoni and Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney.”
Would bet any amount of money that Tina Fey is one of the ones
that will publicly vilifies Gutmann.
After all, she made her “Narrative $$$$” (TM) by being the one
that supported the narrative initially. By helping crucify Sarah Palin.
Kind of disappointed in seeing Steve Martin’s name up there. LOVED
his album with Edie Brickell. Maybe he can stay apolitical in this one.
When parents tire of the LGBQWERTY hiding behind national socialism, communism, critical race theory, et.al………

This parent needs to be honored, for the following:
Mr. Gutmann, you have earned my respect. Thank you.
I’d be honored to shake your hand sir.
Well done, well done indeed.
