Retired Magistrate here: Unfortunately, today did not go well for our side. Pence showed his true colors and it looks like Antifa thugs infiltrated the MAGA peaceful protestors. I know everyone is angry and upset about how today turned out, so am I. To top it off, President Trump asked for peace and for everyone to go home. Quite upsetting, but I don’t think he wanted anyone else to get hurt.
I think President Trump is out of options. After today it really is too late for him to execute Executive Order 13848 especially since Ratcliff has not filed his final report and may not do so in a timely manner.
So what are we left with; ourselves. To make the best life for ourselves as possible. Each one of us will have to decide what that will look like. Think about it and then decide how you want to live the rest of your life. President Trump gave it everything he had. Although I would like to think that there is something else he can try, after what happened today I think those options are gone. Will he concede, no, that is not in his DNA. However, all the talk about election fraud just went out the window and everyone will now focus on what happened today with the peaceful protest. Not trying to be a downer, just a realist.

The path he chose, the Electoral Count Act of 1887 wasn’t even a balanced “neutral” choice. It says if both the House and the Senate agree, after hearing each other’s arguments in their respective chambers, then the challenged slate of electors may be removed.

Senate Republicans were reduced to just 16 seats around 1933-35…maybe because they were “Tone-deaf” to the actual needs of their own Voters and cared only about their “Big Business” selves. Once Reagan led them out of the wilderness that was “Watergate”, Republicans were given another chance. People like “Us” then “Trusted” them for the last 40 years. True to form, the Republican Establishment seems to have served only themselves…and the outright arrogance with which “They” lecture “Us” is simply stunning. At 73, with pins in one hip and a titanium replacement in the other, connective tissue disease, etc. etc. I am happy to get up in the morning, dress myself and cook breakfast for my husband. I do what I can, give my opinions on this site, help my neighbors to the extent I am able, support small businesses, pray and lot and attempt to encourage others. However, I don’t leave in a dream world and as much as I would like to think that our representative republic will be restored in my lifetime, I don’t see it happening. Am I giving up, no, but I am preparing myself to live whatever time I have left the best I can.

What is actually required to effect political change today, in my view, is exactly what was required for our current system to even exist way back when…and that is not exactly a Job for those in the last chapters of life…it is the Job of those that are physically the strongest. Essentially, our very Country was “founded” because one Mob of people gathered together to challenge the “Mob” that was currently controlling them. In the history of the World, Governments and Armed Conflict, what we think we have is actually no different from any other System which was instituted by gun barrel, knife blade, cannon, arrow or what have you.

I completely agree with you two young ladies (I’m only in my mid-40’s). Everyone has their “job” to do in order to restore our Republic, which I believed will be accomplished at some point. Both of you have experienced a lot, your wisdom and experience must be shared to help guide and shape the actions of those who have been called upon to lead and take action.
Please don’t stop sharing and contributing. Your insight is needed. In the 90’s running calls on the 70/80 yo population as a young fireman, I enjoyed hearing stories from the WWII vets who were actually there and we ran across all kinds of different people who had amazing stories in the 55+ communities. You never know who you’ll run into and what they did during their working years.
