Jerry Allison, the drummer, was the future husband of the the song’s namesake, Peggy Sue. Allison also shares songwriting credit with Charles Hardin Holley, AKA “Buddy Holly”, on this and other songs. Holley was five months past his 22nd birthday on The Day the Music Died, February 3, 1959. My own feeling is that Holley would have continued on to become a producer and arranger of other artists as well as his own recordings. I think it’s conceivable that Holley would also write for Broadway and Hollywood.

Oh great pic for music today. I have seen Tony Rice live a couples and the McCoury Band many time . I had the pleasure Of talking to all of them at workshops, they are really genuine nice people, great family that sticks together. And good, good music.
I’ve found that to be true of many very good musicians, all of whom are basically nice folks—who just happen to have a great gift. Sometimes you have to get beyond the showbiz hype, if you do you’ll often find a person who’s very nice to talk to. Don’t know if he still does this since he’s gotten a bit older, but Willie Nelson was famous for standing outside his bus talking to fans and signing autographs so long as there were people in line. He’s not alone in this, either.

I heard something over the radio a few weeks ago, the like of which I’ve never heard before — and certainly never want to hear again. I heard the last words of the pilot on No. 214, a big jet plane that crashed to earth with 81 persons aboard.
Because of the weather conditions the planes were “stacked” rather high around the Philadelphia airport, so the airport tower had just asked him: “Do you want to go on or do you want to hold?” The pilot had barely replied that he wanted to “hold,” when he said something about his big Boeing 707 being on fire! Then came the awful words: “We’re going down. Two fourteen is going down in flames.” He said it calmly, and the Philadelphia tower answered back: “We have your message, two fourteen.”
Just imagine, hearing the actual last words which the pilot uttered while he and eighty others were being hurled more than 5,000 feet to their death amid the flaming parts of their stricken plane!
Yet, one does not have to be in a plane to meet death suddenly. He can stumble off a curb and be killed or die suddenly in a hundred different ways.
The important thing is to be ready. We do not wish to frighten people into accepting Christ as Savior, but it is a fact that we ought to think more than we do about the uncertainty of life. P r o v e r b s. 22:3 says: “A wise man foreseeth the evil and hideth himself, but fools pass on and are punished.”

In central California, the historic Creek Fire is burning more than 300,000 acres of Sierra National Forest. Our cosmic ray balloons are getting a unique view. This photo was taken on Sept. 6th when the “megafire” was exploding in size only two days after it started:

The Owens Valley is the deepest valley in the United States. Its floor is about 10,000 ft lower than the surrounding ~14,000 ft mountain peaks. In other words, that’s a lot of smoke. Later in the day, sunwarmed air carried the fumes upward, completely swallowing the Sierra Crest.
As of Oct. 16th, the Creek Fire has burned 341,722 acres and is only 58% contained. The view from the stratosphere is spooky, disturbing, eerily beautiful. We hope it ends soon.

I’m still shaking my head at the concepts of “Truth Tellers and Seekers on the Internet”, and also that anyone would want to make a living as a YouTube pundit.
I know, I’m old, but I can’t see it as a real profession, as opposed to an endless parade of egotists demanding financial compensation for work no one hired them to perform. If you want to be a TV/streaming professional, get an agent and do auditions until a legit producer hires you. I don’t think anyone has an automatic right to bandwidth just because they bought a webcam and have opinions.
By all means, support them elsewhere if you like. I liked YouTube much better when it was all old TV/movie material, music performances and pet antics, so I’m for fewer “talking heads” and news-related material of any kind.
Consider this. eSports now rival “real” sports in terms of eyeballs and compensation. Video gamers, who are the best at their game, are making over a million $ a year. They have their own publications, merchandise, streaming channels and a million+ fans.
Fortnight has sold over a billion $ in virtual attire for in-game avatars.
Over a 100 colleges and universities offer degrees in video game programming.
Like online pundits, these are real jobs, that generate real income because people yearn for entertainment and information. This type of job also tends to attract entrepreneurs who are more interested in doing the hiring than getting hired.
You’re right in that no one has a right to bandwidth. YouTube makes that very clear in their terms of service. However, the YouTube platform is a two-way street. They need diverse programming to attract a wide audience for advertising. If Google decides to restrict that audience and revenues, based on ideological, rather than business decisions, then the shareholders are the ones who need to demand better business decisions.
I was stunned when I learned a year or so ago that a channel I subscribe to, which at the time had about 50K subscribers, actually earned about 2K per month from youtube. Now their channel has grown dramatically and they have well over 100K subscribers.
Three of the channels to which I subscribe have left their careers and are now full time youtubers. One was an insurance professional, one was an RN, one was an LEO.
All sell ‘gear’ like tee shirts and hats. All have ‘amazon affiliate’ links and get a commission when someone buys a product they link to (I think that’s how it works, not really sure). One is an author and sells the books. One is a food preservation expert and sells specialty items related to that.
It’s a different world these days…

He has hunted this area for twenty years. He packs in, because if he finds a herd, he will hunt/camp close enough to keep working for a shot. He’s very good.

LOL! Being a trucker I have to work on my home terminal time (Eastern). Kind of like the military working in ZULU. It’s the easiest way to stay organized. But I have to know what time zone I’m in because my phone, which is my alarm clock uses the local time.
My work week started at 20:00 Sunday and ended at 09:30 today (Saturday). In that time I passed through IN, IL, MO, KS, OK, TX, NM, AZ. Went through KS, MO, IL, and IN four times. OK, TX, NM twice and AZ once. I covered about 4,800 miles this week which sounds like a lot but really isn’t. I’ve done 4,460 mi solo in a week before and back when I was teaming full time if we didn’t get 7,000 pay miles on the truck in a week we felt like we got robbed.

What Happens When I Forget Christ Lives in Me

“Christ in me” in meditation of all the scriptures pertaining to this truth we find our existence is only in Christ as Christians. We are no longer of this world and it is beneficial to leave that dead carcass to this world and examine our new form in Christ Jesus, otherwise a conflict arises within. We are no longer of this world, or we are. ‘Luke warm’ is Jesus assessment. Very harsh but needed to move forward.
And while we were occupied elsewhere, there’s an air leak onboard the International Space Station. Seems the leak’s on the Russian Zvezda module, Russian cosmonauts discovered the leak (a fracture in the hull) by using a hi-tech Russian detection device – a used teabag. Seems by carefully deploying the teabag the cosmonauts were able to detect the leak as the teabag, in zero gravity, would sway in the direction of the air leak. High teckski.
A Russian patch was placed on the fracture and considerably slowed the leak while not stopping it entirely. The Russian State Space Corporation Roscosmos is not life threatening and the cosmonauts are considering borrowing a better patch from their ‘partners’ on the ISS.
A Soyuz 17 resupply vehicle has been launched with more efficient leak location equipment and a, hopefully, better Russian-made sealant. I presume there’s always the option of that ‘partner’ on the ISS lending them something that works. Ahhhhh, Russian space technology.
Maybe the Ruskies should have used duct tape on the leak, lol.
Perhaps that’s the patch they were considering borrowing from their ‘partner’.

Only thing I know for sure is that it only sticks to two things – itself and anything you don’t want it to stick to.
Apollo 13 astronauts used duct tape to fabricate some sort of part necessary to continue their journey home.
When Alexei Leonov made the first space walk he had to partially deflate his suit in order to get back in the capsule. Damn near killed him but it was the only way he was getting back in the capsule.
When Michael Collins made his space walk during Gemini he had a very difficult time getting back in the capsule.
A simple thing that should be anticipated but isn’t, like suit expansion in the vacuum of space can quickly become a threat to life. We think these mission planners and the engineers that design the stuff are perfect. Just like some people wish to believe their physician can’t make mistakes. But they do make mistakes. Simple ones even. Like failure to even provide equipment for locating a leak and repairing it.
How did he get out? The suit should have swollen when the cabin was depressurized.
How did the Russians supply oxygen during that spacewalk? And what about return? I can come up with hypotheticals that might explain the suit swelling up. Turning the pressure up after he left. An imbalance between supply and return that caused the pressure to increase. Or maybe his starting position allowed him to leave despite being pressurized, but after straightening his limbs, the pressure prevented him from returning to that posture.
So many little details to come up with and to follow through with preventing bad consequences.
The cabin couldn’t be completely depressurized as the ‘electronics’ needed constant air contact for cooling and the capsule wasn’t big enough to carry replacement ‘air’. When Leonev went on his walk he had a tether and a backpack, the latter carrying his breathing air. He was squirted out of the airlock like icing from a pastry bag.
Reports are that the distortion to his suit from the spacewalk (suit wasn’t designed for spacewalking) and his also reportedly violating protocols by reentering the craft headfirst squeezed the air in the suit backwards to a lesser pressure area and he was stuck in the flexible airlock. His venting his suit saved him, his partner and the craft, I’m sure his next option was to sacrifice himself to save his partner and the mission.
The Soviets desperately wanted the 1st spacewalk and forced Leonev to fly in a capsule that had a slap-dash, p*ss-poor design and really was only duct taped into an EVA configuration. His suit was not designed for an EVA, it was a regular intravehicle suit guess-modified to hopefully work in space. It almost didn’t, Leonev had to work on the fly, so to speak.
Later portions of Leonev’s spacewalk were found to have been faked, the Soviets couldn’t be satisfied with the few minutes they had of his real walk so they pumped up the volume with a few minutes of fake ‘spacewalk’. It was all about propaganda to the Russians, they had a number of close-calls and some deaths but then the ideal Soviet man was supposed to eat the cookie for the glory of the state.
See below. Collins’suit was engineered for spacewalking but there were miscalculations and the did get him pulled back into the capsule. Leonev’s suit was never designed for a spacewalk, it was only designed for intracapsdule use under external pressure. When Leonev left the capsule the suit heated and expanded under conditions it was never designed to undertake, only blind luck and his perseverance kept him (and possibly his partner) from becoming not only the first to spacewalk but their being the first to die in space.
Strangely enough, it wasn’t until a USAF engineer/pilot who’d worked with NASA on building life support systems for our space program was shot down over North Vietnam and ‘disappeared’ from his POW camp that the Russian space program had upgraded life support systems. They also looked strikingly like the US ones…

Tomorrow Israelis are preparing the largest ever Israeli Trump parade in Miami.
There are some 100,000 Israelis in Miami not to mention the rest of Florida. I think Trump will win Florida with their help and others. There are also many Israelis in Los Angeles. I attach here a parade they did in LA area.

Thank you David! Good to read this! I have some socialist relatives in Israel (much loved but very aggravating) and the topic of my favorite President has provoked a lot of heartburn
Am hoping that in due time EVERYBODY will see the light including Palestinians who can have a much better life than the rigid-limited-brains are capable of dreaming

Israel was founder Socialist but it didn’t work and the economy took off only when the right took the government, sold many of the government owned companies and introduced free market competition and incentives to invest in Israel. Most Israelis are no longer socialists but there is still some who carry the old ideology. I estimate some 15%.
New generations tend to be less socialist in Israel so the trend is positive.
So to summarize Israel moves from Socialism to free market and the US is moving from free market to socialism (unless Trump wins again and prevents it). In families it’s tricky, I understand how you feel. I have a lefty sister and it’s a problem for me too. Take care.
