During a questioning segment between Texas Senator John Cornyn and Judge Amy Coney Barrett, the supreme court nominee was asked to reveal the notes she might be using to answer detailed and specific legal questions.
“You know most of us have multiple notebooks and books and other things like that in front of us. Can you hold up what you’ve been referring to in answering our questions?” Cornyn asked Barrett.
Judge Barrett held up a blank notepad and smiled.
“Is there anything on that?” Cornyn asked.
Barrett responded: “Just a letterhead that says United States Senate.”

Listening to the whole clip, Senator Cornyn finished with a super question about the restrictions that previous court decisions have placed on prayer in public settings. Judge Amy Barrett had a superb answer.
A super choice by President Trump for Associate Justice. It would have been even better if she were to be the Chief Justice.

Once a person has been nominated they flesh out details of the file and orchestrate a hearing to influence decisions about who is seated. SOP for the vermin congress critters on both sides.

I don’t know if it’s like this at all law schools, but in my case our moot court competition didn’t allow ANY notes. You’re arguing a case from the OPPOSITE side you really believe in (they’re sadistic like that!), standing in front of 3 actual judges, with them able to interrupt you at will, just TRYING to trip you up… yeah, scary. And every bit of knowledge about the case and law in general had better be in your head, because you ain’t getting any help from notes. So that’s the closest I’ve ever come to being in a position like Amy is, though it’s really not even remotely close… I can’t even imagine how she’s able to handle something SO much more important and stressful.

In 1930, President Herbert Hoover appointed him to succeed Chief Justice Taft. So Hughes went from SCOTUS to a failed run for President, and then back on the SCOTUS as the Chief Justice.
As we know, William Howard Taft served as President, and then was appointed the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
Normally I never listen to these hearings because of all the political posturing; this time I can’t tear myself away – she is OWNING them.

My question was to get a little insight as to whether it came from a friend who knew that she’s got an encyclopedic grasp of the law and wanted to give her an opening to let the room (and the rest of the country) know just how sharp she is, or;
Was he posing the question from an “establishment Republican” POV, hoping to throw her off a little bit, find a little opening for other less friendly questioners who really can’t stand the fact that she belongs on the court.
I’m pretty sure Cornyn gave her a softball to hit out of the park. Having met her in person, for the court of Appeals as well as SCOTUS, Cornyn’s gotta know how wicked-smart she is. I find it hard to get my mind around how you support President Trump’s Scotus picks, and at the same time attempt to smother the life out of any of his Policy initiatives – maybe it conflicts with the favors/money you’ve already accepted the US CofC and McConnell’s chinese in-laws….

To show how far a state/gov’t CAN go when it comes to “dire emergencies”. The point being made in the ruling was that IF the circumstances are so serious that lockdowns and such are allowed, there will be very, very few exceptions. In this case, churches. I know most of us (me included) know that this COVID thing is way overblown, but let’s say it wasn’t. Let’s say we were looking at a Bubonic Plague or worse, let’s say that without severe restrictions, 10% of the population would die. Everything and everyone is locked down. In such a case, should we have an exception for churches? Should we let them do whatever they want, regardless of the very real deadly danger? Of course not.
So a state can go that far even though it violates the constitution then huh? Well thank you for making my point. Makes me feel all warm and cozy inside knowing she will be their to force me to get a vaccination if “THEY” make up bad enough numbers…

Senator Sasse was again wonderful this afternoon, and re Judge Barrett, she is destined to be a legal colossus with a lasting impact on a wayward Supreme Court that has lost its bearings. Amy Coney Barrett’s clarity of mind and love of truth should be inspiring to all the Court’s members if they have any sense of honesty or decency.

Watching Cruz a little while ago, I thought of something that I never had before: Trump beat this guy. I mean yes, he beat about a dozen others too, and then Hillary later. But Ted Cruz?… that guy is just super smart and quick on his feet. And yet Donald Trump beat him like all the rest. Yeah… that Trump guy is no slouch. 😉
I thought Cruz was the Cat’s meow and voted for him over Dewhurst to become Texas’ senator, but when Trump showed up – HE was the real deal – steamroller and not afraid to fight – call’em like you see’m…. Trump just has the charisma, Cruz is certainly sharp enough, but Trump is a unique force of G-d’s nature – imperfect, but a battering ram that has been hardened in the furnace for 60 years of NYC rough & tumble…
