Alico Arena located in South Fort Myers Florida has opened as a possible shelter opportunity for East Coast residents fleeing the storm. Almost every hotel on the entire West Coast of Florida is full.

Here’s a list of South West Florida evacuation centers that also might be an option:

♦ Glades County – Moore Haven Middle/High School will open as a shelter at noon on Thursday. West Glades School will also open as a special needs shelter at noon on Thursday. Neither shelter is pet friendly.
♦ Hendry County – General population shelters will be open at Clewiston Middle School and Labelle Middle School. The American Red Cross will be staffing the shelters beginning at 8 a.m. Thursday. No pets are allowed, except for service animals.
♦ Lee County – The Lee County Emergency Operations Center will initiate a 24-hour Partial Activation with select EOC partners at 10 a.m. Thursday in support of opening host shelters for evacuees from Florida’s east coast. The State Emergency Operations Center in Tallahassee has directed some Southwest Florida counties to open shelters for evacuees coming from the east coast of Florida. Lee County has declared a local state of emergency to expedite this effort. The shelters are a general population shelter at Alico Arena, 10501 FGCU Blvd., Fort Myers, and a pet friendly shelter at the Estero Recreation Center, 9200 Corkscrew Palms Blvd., Estero.
♦ Charlotte County – A pet friendly shelter has opened at the Harold Avenue Park Recreation Center for those fleeing from the east coast.
