The UMass Student’s Dad called a local gun shop, North Shore Firearms, to ask about legal purchase of a silencer.  The store clerk called the cops – it goes downhill fast from there.

He is being charged with a major felony under a new Massachusetts anti-gun law and faces ten years in prison. He is also being charged with a crime for not having his guns locked in a safe.
Large capacity magazines that hold more than ten rounds, and were manufactured after 1994, are illegal under the new Massachusetts law.  However, there is no way to determine date of magazine manufacture because the metal magazines are not date stamped.
The Methuen Police Department raided his apartment. According to Chief Joe Solomon the raid was based on “a tip.” The police department posted pictures of three completely legal and lawfully owned firearms on their official Facebook page. The department seemed to be falsely insinuating that firearms are already illegal in the state.
The police department has since admitted that the guns were legally registered and that Mokad had a Massachusetts license to legally own and transport the firearms.  The only legal infraction was the capacity of the two magazines whose manufacture date can never be determined – and then came the subsequent unlawful firearm storage.
Along with the picture of three legal firearms, was a statement from Joe Solomon bragging about the arrest. The arrest and subsequent bragging by the local chief has shocked lawful gun owners all over the United States.

The agents, officers and detectives did an excellent job of following a tip and developing information through investigation to a rapid conclusion resulting in an arrest and seizure of weapons and high capacity magazines.”   –Chief Solomon

(Police State USA has a thorough breakdown with pictures and links): A  student of the University of Massachusetts has been arrested and charged with bearing arms in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  For possessing some standard rifles and magazines in his home — and harming no one — this young man could face up to 10 years in prison.  Proud of their work, local enforcers bragged about their seizure on Facebook.
Last week government agents raided the home of Jad Ali Mokad, a 24-year-old senior at UMass, who is less than 3 months from graduating with a finance degree.  Mokad, who immigrated from Lebanon, made the mistake of settling in a police state like Massachusetts.
Local and federal agencies had been “tipped off” that Mokad’s father had phoned a gun store and asked some amateurish questions about gun ownership.  Evidently, this tip was enough to search his home.  (read more)
