We have outlined many recent examples of Prog ideology regarding freedom and choice. From the “you didn’t build that” of President Obama, to the “we know best” of Mayor Bloomberg. But this recent example provides the greatest clarity and lifts any remaining clouds of doubt:
Former Speaker of the House and current Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi told an audience of more than 600 college students last week that President Obama has signed many “expansions of freedom” into law since he took office in 2008.
Pelosi, speaking at a youth conference hosted by the George Soros funded Campus Progress, said the President’s work with health care best illustrates his agenda to increase civil liberties for American citizens.
“Central to all is the Affordable Care Act, which we think is about life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” said Pelosi. “A healthier life, for liberty, to pursue your happiness.”
The former Speaker also listed new laws pertaining to hate crimes and Don’t Ask Don’t tell as examples of legislation that has expanded American freedoms.
Please re-read that again to fully comprehend the ideology at work within the mindset of the current Democrat party.
Freedoms, according to Nancy Pelosi’s own words, stem from government passing laws granting them to you.
President Obama has signed many “expansions of freedom” into law since he took office in 2008.
Can you comprehend how insufferably disconnected from constitutional reality this statement is? A law by its very nature does not “increase” freedom, it diminishes it. Laws regulate behavior.
The Constitution of our Republic provides a bill of rights, specific rights, inalienable rights never to be regulated without permission of the governed. We grant power to the central or federal government. In essence the federal government is granted power, or permission, by the citizenry of our constitutional republic who outline what they, the government, may and may not do. It is a limiting document…..
….. and a limiting document the progs hate !
The federal government does not grant us freedom. Freedom is already ours and “endowed by our creator”. We provide the authority to the federal government. The decisions we face are what freedoms we will give up to the federal government, NOT what freedoms they may provide.
The government cannot provide freedom through legislation. It is impossible. But in the mind of a prog this is exactly what they believe. In the prog ideology all freedom decisions are owned by the federal government; They are the arbitors of decisionmaking, and those freedoms which we may enjoy are then determined by them and given to us.
Mark you calendar with this date, because in our lifetime we can safely state that no single statement, or prepared remark, can more succinctly outline the difference between a Progressive Democrat, and a constitutional patriot than the words of Nancy Pelosi herself.
