“Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.“
If I were to describe to you a social event which dictated a historical need for tens of thousands of labor hours from the Police, always ended with hundreds of arrests, was viewed as dangerous by the local citizenry, and which needed so much law enforcement for safety that private citizens willingly paid for the cops, complete strangers, to stay at their homes just so they could feel safe; You’d probably think I was crazy right?
What if we told you in addition to the above, in less than a 20 block radius the police were going to:
- Install 18 continually monitored live CCTV cameras 24/7
- Put 600 police officers in that same area – borrowing 200 from other towns.
- Pre-install automatic license plate readers connected to Homeland Security.
- Erect two dozen police staffed watchtowers.
- Spend $140,000 to “rent” tanks and light armored vehicles with FLIR.
- In total spend around $1,800,000.00 not including overtime for 4 days.
Consider this year’s event:
It has yet to really start, and yet – Police arrested 51 people [so far] between 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday afternoon.
Additionally – The police department has on loan a $140,000 all-terrain vehicle used in the military. The vehicle can use Forward Looking Infra Red (FLIR) to detect body heat nearly a mile away.
I mean what local government would keep subjecting themselves to the risks associated with allowing such a festival to take place year after year, knowing full well the same historical outcome would be repeated? Why would they put themselves, and by consequence their community, through such intentional anxiety?
It’s “Miami Urban Beach Week” that’s why.
Key word “urban“….. Political correctness running amok, and allowing prudent common sense to be dispatched just because they, The Local Government, City Council, Mayor and politicos in the community are afraid to stop the rampant violence from happening lest they be called,… wait for it…. RACIST !
So to afford the full measure of institutional racism (soft bigotry of diminished expectations) to be displayed – they must allow, once again, a culture of violence to run rampant while they try to control the chaos and limit the collateral damage (deaths, beatings, muggings, shootings, fights, violence et al).
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A luxury boutique hotel in South Beach is helping Miami Beach police officers, who are working longer shifts this weekend because of Urban Beach Weekend.
The SLS Hotel South Beach is accommodating 10 police officers during Urban Beach Week, the hotel’s marketing manager Laura Clery said Friday. […] Hotel rooms at SLS cost up to $870 a night, according to the hotel’s website.
Miami Beach authorities expect about 200,000 tourists [thugs] this weekend and are allocating about 400 additional police officers to secure the area. Police arrested 51 people between 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday afternoon. (link)
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – The first round of tourists for Urban Beach Week arrived Thursday morning. The city estimates 200,000 people will make their way to South Beach through Memorial Day. Officers patrolled Ocean Drive ahead of road closures on Friday.
The Miami Beach Police Department says 400 officers will be on the streets at night. […]
“This is not my first time here, but it’s my first Memorial Day weekend, so I hear a lot of good things about it,” said Keisha Major.
Officers will also have a new, high-tech tool to keep tourists safe. The police department has on loan a $140,000 all-terrain vehicle used in the military. The vehicle can detect body heat nearly a mile away. Officers will use it at night on the beach. (link)
Article […] So why is an event so dreaded by residents still happening in Miami Beach? Because it is not a city event, it is a private one.
In other words, the City does not sponsor any of the venues of Urban Beach Weekend. Instead, the hundreds of private enterprises making up South Beach are competing for partying customers and keep adding customer-attracting events.
Security is needed because businesses don’t want to deal with window-breaking muggers constantly so they appeal to the public police.
Businesses pass on the cost of security to taxpayers. This is nothing more than a pure subsidy that allows private venues to be reckless with the health of the community. Of course, the answer is not, as some have proposed, to make Urban Beach Weekend a city-sponsored event as this would be another taxpayer money waste.
Instead, something drastic should be done if we want to deal efficiently with the crime crisis during the Memorial Day Weekend. It does not involve civil liberties violations, police abuses, ACLU complaints, or $140,000 military vehicles. The solution is for the City of Miami Beach to do nothing. (link)
I agree.
The best thing that can happen for the community is for the local law enforcement to say no. If the business community is left to carry the true burden of the event they construct – you can bet they’ll drop the event in a heartbeat. Try to find an insurance carrier to support a policy cover considering such a risk.
And after all, isn’t it just soft bigotry to claim that those who attend such an event need such militaristic controls just to insure they can behave in a manner that does not lead to destructive violence? Why subsidize projected racism?
What’s more racist? a.) To claim that without police the black, oh wait, excuse me, the “urban” community will destroy the event/venue forever; or b.) To say no, it’s racist to project that outcome, and just allow the same level of security that all other event/venues are afforded – then see what happens?
