WHITE HOUSE – President Donald J. Trump announced that the federal government will return to the American people hundreds of millions in Obamacare overcharges, collected by the Biden Administration, by issuing refunds of $500 per person to nearly 1 million Americans in 30 states. Today’s actions directly refund the Americans most exposed to the higher costs imposed by the Biden Administration’s gross mismanagement of Obamacare.
- The Biden Administration overcharged Americans through Obamacare plan exchange “user fees” that were passed on to consumers in the form of higher premiums, funding the operations of the federal Obamacare exchange far in excess of what was needed to run the exchange.
- As a result, the Biden Administration accumulated a significant surplus of funds that were not used to benefit the Americans who paid these higher premiums.
- President Trump is refunding these excess fees to Americans who do not receive premium assistance under the Unaffordable Care Act – and therefore paid the full cost of Biden’s premium tax – in the 30 states that use the federal exchange for the operations of their Obamacare markets.
- These states include Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
- Thanks to President Trump’s actions, nearly 1 million Americans will receive a refund check of $500 per person. Checks will be sent to eligible Americans beginning in October 2026.

You just know the Democrats will find an Obama judge to slap an injunction on paying out those refunds. They will explain it in terms of the money will go to better off people and drive up healthcare costs for everyone else, or some such thing. Just wait. It will happen. EMTALA states that any hospital that accepts Medicare must provide a medical screening exam to anyone coming to their ER regardless of immigration status, nationality or ability to pay. This is why ERs are flooded with illegal aliens using it as a PCP visit with you and I, the taxpayers, footing the bill. Reducing the population of illegals and H1-bs will lower the costs but not entirely, people living on the Mexico-US border can come over and use our ERs without worry as long as EMTALA is law. Amend EMTALA to where it applies only to American citizens.

i’ve used the healthcare.gov (Obamacare) policies a few times when between jobs, which were small enough employers that they were not required to provide COBRA.
The premiums were $800-$1200/month. I understand an employer pays a large part of employee premiums, but I doubt the premium for group employee insurance was that high. The only good thing about using healthcare.gov is they have to cover you, even if you have diabetes or other pre-existing conditions.
Not small businesses…. employers couldn’t afford such premiums… and thus their employees were gutted and they lost talent that had to go to bigger companies with cafeteria plans.
Yet… Pfizer… for instance, could still cover the cost of their insured employees and their dependents for $50/ month… no joke.
Uncovered pre-existing are still going to be covered… by bankruptcy attorneys or casket makers.

Nobody can afford centrally planned medical care. I think Trump is returning the excess fees taken by the Biden hacks, but that gesture cannot undo the damage the Ocare monstrosity did. It is fair to refund overcharges which are still sitting there, but other damage may very well be irreparable. Including, unfortunately, your situation.
