A man was identified carrying a firearm inside the outer perimeter of the White House. The Secret Service engaged the person carrying the gun, who then fled on foot, turning and shooting back at Secret Service agents. The U.S. Secret Service returned fire hitting the gunman. A juvenile bystander was shot by one of the bullets, most likely fired by the suspect. Both the juvenile bystander and the gunman are receiving medical treatment.
Just before the gunman was identified, the motorcade of Vice President JD Vance drove through this immediate area. The shooting did not involve the Vice President’s security detail and an investigation is ongoing. The Secret Service gives a preliminary media briefing below.

The Secret Service has now shot a bystander. In one instance they shot themselves. In two other instances at close range they hit nothing when the President was at risk. They did shoot an intruder when the President wasn’t in danger. At Butler they allowed a fairly close rifle shot that was interrupted by some local policemen looking up on the roof that the sniper occupied. There was no counter sniper covering that rooftop and the sniper made a long adjustment where a lot of rounds went in the President’s direction. The video at the WHCD showed distracted agents with no focus, officers taking down equipment while the event was just getting started. An incurious canine officer with what looks like a much more competent dog. When the incident began officers found themselves in the line of fire which probably affected marksmanship. That organization is sick and is in need of reform. The current director reminds me of the previous incompetent director.
The Officer speaking so much remind me of Nathan Bargatze. Same facial expressions, eyes, mannerism. I find myself expecting to laugh, especially at the stupid questions from the press, asking 12 angles for the same questions.
He was very professional, and I suspect he squelched his own humorous urges in answering the questions.
