The last time the US Hockey team won gold was when we had a fantastic President in Reagan. It so fitting the US Hockey team won gold again during Trump term. I love the fact that our dear and sweet Lord Jesus Christ has such a great sense of humor.
Carter was president in 1980 while Reagan was campaigning for the Republican nomination. The US hockey team defeated the Russians and then the Finnish team for the Olympic gold medal and it seemed like a breath of fresh air in a time of our national malaise. Reagan did too, and that sense of fresh air and optimism changed everything.
Considering President Trump had planned to be in Milan but had to cancel, it isn’t odd for some in his cabinet to be there. It’s just disingenuous for Patel to say he was in the country for another meeting and “happened” to be able to attend the game.
Not great optics, but at least he wasn’t paying off a British spy, or helping to plan an assassination attempt on a political opponent, like a couple of other FBI directors we know of.
That kind of beneficial scheduling happens frequently with high execs. A perk of the position. I have no problem with it as he is celebrating the USA, not doing some self-dealing with Chinese business partners.
He was there as part of the Security for our Athletes. Apparently we have that. FBI is in charge of Security. Learned this from the Dana Loesch show yesterday.
Neither do I…..especially since his record so far out does any FBI director that we have had in decades!

The women’s hockey gold medal winning team turned down President Trump’s invitation. They claimed due to a “scheduling conflict”.
I predicted this. Single white women are the Democrats biggest constituency after the black population.
Poor girls, probably peer pressured, that runs thick in those circles.

If they turn down this opportunity to publicize their sport, they are handicapping their sport and causing harm to all women’s sports.
Turning down a presidential honor like this is a losing proposition no matter who is the president.

Women’s hockey is a big deal at UW-Madison. “Badger Bob” Johnson was the men’s coach when I was there, won the NCAAs “frozen four” one year before going to the Pittsburgh Penguins and winning the Stanley Cup there. In his college coaching days he and Herb Brooks at arch-rival UMinn would trade off coaching the national team. Brooks was coach for the 1980 US team. Johnson’s son, Mark Johnson, was one of the stars of the “miracle on ice”. Mark went on to be the women’s coach at Wisconsin turning it into a national power.
The men all have NHL teams to get back to (come home safe Jake Guentzle). What are the women in a rush to get back to? Such a bad look.

as the coach of the winning women’s team is the mother of two brothers on the winning men’s team.

Spokesperson for the team graciously responded with a regretful decline. They do indeed have a scheduling conflict, impossible to reschedule with the notice given.
I do not believe it to be an intentional snub.
Well……Patriots will remember which American hockey team went to the State of the Union and joined the President. Not the one that didn’t! It’s their bad and will live with them down through history.

Patel is a buffoon. Swilling beer and dropping the gratuitous F-bomb was clownish to the nth degree. These are not the actions of an intelligent, serious man.
Having said that, the men and women representing USA Hockey have made all right thinking Americans proud.

Coarsening of the language seems at least partly correlated with generational change. It’s natural to the younger ones because they don’t see it changing while the elders have the benefit (or curse) of hindsight.
While macho locker room bluster may be timeless, I had to chuckle about the safety goggles issued to the players before their champagne “shower”. Was it clever marketing by the goggle company or was the safety nanny behind it?
As for Patel, I much prefer his enthusiasm for the team’s victory and the moment of glory for the USA compared to Comey’s childish skulking through the woods and beaches like a big stupid Yeti in time-out, memorializing his thoughts with dumb scribbles and shells.
