According to reporting from the Associated Press the telephone call lasted approximately 15 minutes; however, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum called it “a very good conversation.”
(AP) “Sheinbaum said the two leaders did not speak about Cuba, which Trump threatened Sunday. Mexico is an important ally of the island nation, including selling it oil that it will need even more desperately now that the Trump administration says it will not allow any more oil shipments from Venezuela to Cuba.”
According to the AP report, President Trump again told President Sheinbaum that he was ready to support Mexico with U.S. law enforcement should she decide to take on the cartels. Sheinbaum again said that Mexico did not need the U.S. help and progress was being made.
“We told [President Trump], so far it’s going very well, it’s not necessary, and furthermore there is Mexico’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and he understood,” Sheinbaum is reported as saying, which, if you think about it, is really quite an alarming statement even within a brief phone call.
When asked about combatting cartel influence, “so far it’s going well” is not exactly confidence inspiring. Within the answer itself is an admission the Mexican government has an issue with cartel control. – AP REPORT HERE
Saying they have it under control is an admission there is something that needs to be controlled. Apparently, success on this issue in Mexico is defined as, “a significant drop in homicides, falling U.S. fentanyl seizures and fentanyl overdose deaths.”
According to Mexican Foreign Affairs Secretary Juan Ramón de la Fuente, these are the “tangible results” Secretary Rubio previously said were needed. So, there’s that.

Supply and demand.
For a moment entertain the thought that foreign policy to Mexico reduces the amount of fentanyl imported.
This will just make the price of existing fentanyl go up.
Causing drug user base in the US to have to pay more, more cost is more stealing and crime.
Which means more domestic crime.
Solution: Address the demand side as well. This demand side fixing either has poor PR and we are not hearing about it or nothing is being done. The whole “narco anything” looks and quacks a lot like “Weapons of Mass Destruction” repackaged.
I’ve often wondered about the demand side of the illicit drug trade. How are people enticed into using these dangerous substances? Peer pressure probably accounts for most first time use, but what about those that continue on, graduating from gateway drugs to the really bad stuff? And how do others hold up and control their use of, say, cocaine?
I suppose it’s simply hard work trying to attack the demand side, as it requires a functioning mental health profession, among other things, to get to the bottom of the problem.
Prohibition should have taught us that attacking the supply side of the problem without addressing the demand side will never solve the problem.
You solve the drug demand problem by not exporting jobs to other countries and not importing people, whether legal or illegal, from other countries for the purpose of reducing wages with oversupply of labor.
That is nothing but drivel. It’s not about jobs or wages!
Most drug users are gainfully employed and working.
You can point to Skid Row, but those people aren’t going to work even if straight.
The harder, deadly drugs are all in the same market. Not everyone who sells, has immediate access to all, but given the customer, he can easily find them.
For the user, the first time drug is almost always pot, and the stuff of fifty/sixty years ago made one feel good, lowered inhibitions, and for some, provided the feeling of finally belonging or being welcome. To the kid who was always on the outside, bullied, or rejected, that’s incredibly powerful.
Then comes the logic. If they lied to me about pot, the what must acid be like, or uppers, downers, and hash was incredible. So, the journey to a place you cannot leave begins.
No amount of mental health counseling can deal with this, as most of the users are more intelligent, have a better handle on reality than the counselors. There is the paranoia aspect of drug use, but that is typically when you’re high, and possessing amounts that could cause you to serve hard time if busted. Anyone who thinks Jungian psychology is going to help someone is dreaming. First off, Jung was an atheist, and his teachings excluded God. The problem with that is that God is the only One with the answer!
You cannot deal with demand side through legal or programmatic means. Even as Born Again Christians, I’ve known many who get trapped in drugs. That only leads to feeling guilty, but it doesn’t stop the desire or addiction. Some have been scared straight, but the most effective way to deal with the addict is after he is one, and that’s through Christian programs such as Teen Challenge. I have friends who are Teen Challenge graduates. It’s not an easy process, but it works, and God is in the middle of the answer.
If we can’t deal with the demand problem, and I claim we cannot, we can only deal with the supply side. Find the big suppliers, and execute them and continue to where no one wants that position.
Thank you for your last paragraph.
We don’t need an army in Europe or to belong to NATO.
We need to remove all illegals and foreign students and workers. Maybe keep seasonal farm workers.
And as you say hunt and kill those who traffic in drugs and people.
Just find the big suppliers ‘and execute them.’
So that’s it, problem solved?
Been trying to do that for decades, no luck. But just find them and kill them. That will fix everything.
Good grief
There is a huge difference between people doing drugs and the drugs being contaminated (Deliberately) with a for certain death from a chemical weapon.
That “Demand” garbage has just been an excuse for decades while over 100.000 + people yearly in this country die mostly from street drugs laced with that crap while allowing the Chinese to continue indirectly killing people here.
A very small % of users die from cocaine. This small % is in the same ball park as % deaths from alcohol users.
Most of the deaths from cocaine use are actually from the illicit fentanyl that the cartels cut into their product.
As long as cocaine and other drugs are ‘illegal’, they will be provided by cartels, and the artificially jacked up prices will incentivize cartels to taint the coke supplies with cheap fentanyl.
Making drugs ‘illegal’ does not make demand disappear, it just means they will be provided by the cartels.
Vast majority of drug ODs today are from illicit fentanyl taken orally (not the safe pharm grade used in hospitals or in safe fentanyl patches).
End the drug war and the prices will drop, the ODs will drop b/c the fentanyl will disappear, and the DEA can close up shop and go find something productive and useful to do. Users will keep using, just as after Prohibition; but they’ll have a cheaper safer product.
Yeah, look at Colorado. It turned to Hell when drugs were legalized. Terrible idea that has more consequences than you can imagine.
During Prohibition the same argument was made by the Ladies Temperance Society and others: why we can’t legalize alcohol! Everything will go to hell, the streets will be full of drunks, everyone will be drinking, hell fire and brimstone we’ll be doomed.
Denver has gone to pot so to speak but that has little to do with loosening of criminal penalties for marijuana use.
Street fentanyl is behind most ODs in the US and it’s ‘illegal’ as are cocaine amphetamines and all the rest.
End the drug war, eliminate street fentanyl, get rid of the $200B/yr useless police state dea, and allow people the freedom to put into their bodies as they choose. My body my choice not that of federal bureaucrats 2000 miles away.
Not to mention the governments buy into Prohibition that led to them putting poison in the denatured alcohol used to make bathtub gin. People would drop dead after drinking the stuff.
They killed thousands of people with their “we know better & can take care you” bullsh%t we’ll just make it deadly to drink homemade booze. That’ll make ya all stop.
Seems we could stop it if we wanted too, nothing surprises me anymore-
It all goes back to the bank of England and the European Bank, they are laundering money,I would not doubt it fed was in on it to. The rich get richer and our children get poorer!
Them promethian chicks get around.
Algorithms are neat things, huh.
Trump 2028 🇺🇸
Nice rant the other day Steve. You and Doc Rivers are pees in a pod. It’s why I hate the NBA because not a single reporter called out either of these idiots for their murder comments.
Where is Larry, Magic and Michael when you need them?
Hard to blame her. She is doing what the cartels expect her to do. Otherwise she dies… or family members start dying. The only dynamic that will curb the cartels is the U.S. Military.
What is the incentive to kill the paying customer? From a business stand point I would want them addicted but not dead……
There are multiple things happening here. Trump is clearing the western hemisphere of communist influence, through economic pressure. The regimes need to be moved out and all communists who think they can regain a foothold should be removed, this includes those recently “elected” in the US. It’s simple Communists & Socialist should not be allowed to hold elected office, they violate the oath of office, as this country is not Socialist, it’s a Democratic Republic, and the there is NOTHING in the Constitution supporting these forms of government. All people have the right to self governance, the right to hold property, and pursue any opportunity. These two forms of government do not.
Wonder if the “significant drop in homicides, falling US fentanyl seizures and fentanyl overdose deaths” might just be the cartels temporarily backing off a bit so as to lull the Trump administration into thinking that progress IS being made, and so be less inclined to go after their puppet, Sheinbaum?
noting: anyone who still believes mexico to be a good country, that supports law and order is grossly misinformed.
let me just briefly capture some facts about an incident that happened not too long ago.
Dog the Bounty Hunter, yeah that guy, focused his expertise in capturing a known rapist in Mexico, who had escaped the US (and prosecution) by entering Mexico. He was a notorious raper indicted and would have stood trial for his crimes…the son of some wealthy cosmetics owner. I forget his name. It’s not important. So Dog takes the bounty claim, goes to Mexico…naps the guy who is living in plain sight not even hiding…Mexican authorities know the criminal and do nothing to return his across the border to stand trial for his crimes.
DOG gets arrested. Apparently, under mexican law no one other than the police themselves may “deprive liberty”. Now think about that. And remember, Mexico is where you go to escape justice…mexico is where you go to hide out and away from accountability. Mexico not only defends this so called law, but they enforce it, just as they did by incarcerating Dog for nabbing a criminal wanted for rape charges. Had the UNITED STATES NOT GOTTEN INVOLVED IN THIS HIGH PROFILE CASE, DOG WOULD HAVE GONE TO PRISON FOR QUITE A LONG TIME.
so think about the actual “nature” of Mexico…and what really happens there. There are by estimates well over 10,000 US criminals who crossed over the border to escape justice. Because Mexico turns a blind eye. They do noting to cooperate with law enforcement. The police are corrupt and will do just about anything in exchange for money. This is why the cartels operate efficiently in Mexico. It’s the police and the state laws that allow criminal to ride for free in Mexico.
sure, there are some good people in Mexico, but we can no longer have a border nation continue to pretend it’s not complicit in some of the most egregious lawless actions of any this hemisphere. I support making a demilitarized zone about 50 miles swath across the entire border region. NO GO ZONE. No business. no travel. complete lockdown..BOTH WAYS.
it’s the only way to reshape the state of Mexico and also importantly to protect the US.
God Bless America
