Louis Braille

French educator and inventor of a system of reading and writing for the blind, dies of tuberculosis at 43
Biography: Louis Braille was a French educator and inventor of the braille reading and writing system for the blind. He developed this system in the early 19th century, despite being blinded himself at the age of three in an accident with a stitching awl in his father’s workshop.
Braille was admitted to the Royal Institute for Blind Youth in Paris at the age of ten, where he learned using the existing system of embossed Latin letters devised by Valentin Haüy. Dissatisfied with the limitations of Haüy’s system, Braille was inspired by a communication system invented by Charles Barbier and began developing his own system of raised dots.
By the age of fifteen, in 1824, Braille had largely completed his system, which was more compact and efficient than Barbier’s, using six raised dots instead of twelve. In 1829, he published the first book about his system: “Method of Writing Words, Music, and Plain Songs by Means of Dots, for Use by the Blind and Arranged for Them.”
Braille’s system was extended to include braille musical notation, reflecting his passion for music and his role as an accomplished cellist and organist. Despite initial resistance from educators, Braille’s system was officially adopted by the Institute in 1854, two years after his death.
Braille served as a professor at the Institute and had spent much of his life refining and extending his system, which went on to be adapted for use in languages worldwide.

Biography: Gregor Mendel was an Augustinian friar and scientist who served as abbot of St. Thomas’ Abbey in Brno, Margraviate of Moravia. Mendel is often called the father of modern genetics for his study of the inheritance of traits in pea plants. His work laid the foundation for the modern understanding of genetics and heredity.
Mendel was born in a German-speaking family in Silesia, then part of the Austrian Empire. He entered an Augustinian monastery in Brno in 1843 and was later sent to the University of Vienna to study under the sponsorship of the monastery. There, he gained a solid foundation in scientific methods and research.
Between 1856 and 1863, Mendel cultivated and tested some 29,000 pea plants. He focused on seven characteristics of the pea plants, such as seed shape and flower color, observing that they were inherited independently of each other according to certain ratios. From these experiments, Mendel formulated the laws of inheritance: the Law of Segregation and the Law of Independent Assortment.
Despite presenting his findings in 1865 and publishing them in 1866 in the Proceedings of the Natural History Society of Brünn, Mendel’s work went largely unnoticed by the scientific community until its rediscovery in 1900. Scientists then recognized its significance: that Mendel had discovered the key principles of heredity.
Mendel’s conclusions were drawn from mathematical patterns of inheritance and laid the groundwork for the field of genetics. Biography: Georg Cantor was a German mathematician who made groundbreaking contributions to the field of set theory and the understanding of infinity. He is best known for his development of transfinite numbers, which are infinite but distinct in size, challenging traditional views of infinity.
Cantor’s work on set theory laid the foundation for modern mathematics, particularly in the areas of topology and functional analysis. He introduced the concept of cardinality to classify the sizes of infinite sets and developed the famous diagonal argument, which demonstrated that the set of all real numbers is uncountable.
Despite facing opposition and criticism from some of his contemporaries, Cantor’s ideas gained widespread acceptance over time, and his work has had a profound impact on the development of mathematics. Theodore Roosevelt

26th US President (R: 1901-09; Nobel 1906), dies in NY at 60
Biography: Consistently ranked as one of the best American presidents, Roosevelt served in office from 1901 to 1909, having assumed the presidency after the assassination of William McKinley. To date he is the only President of the United States to be awarded America’s highest military award (the Medal of Honor) and the only person in history to receive both his nation’s award military courage and the world’s foremost prize for peace.
Roosevelt was previously the Assistant Secretary of the Navy, but resigned to lead the Rough Riders in the Spanish-American War. After this he served as Governor of New York from 1899 to 1900. He accepted a proposal to become McKinley’s running mate, and the ticket won the 1900 election in a landslide.
A lifelong naturalist, Roosevelt made conservation a top priority for his administration, and established many new national parks, monuments and forests. He championed the Square Deal set of domestic policies which promised citizens fairness, breaking of trusts, regulation of railroads, and pure food and drugs.
In foreign policy he started construction on the Panama Canal and generally focused on Central America. In 1906 he won the Nobel Peace Prize for successfully brokering an end to the Russo-Japanese War. He was re-elected in 1904 to a full term and continued to champion progressive causes. In 1908 his hand-picked successor William Howard Taft was elected president, though the two fell out during Taft’s time in office.

In the original Greek, the word ‘behold’ does not mean to stand back objectively and view ‘his glory’ as one might view a picture in a gallery. Instead it has the sense of embracing and even participating in the experience. The word ‘glory’ also carries another significance, for it is the same word in Greek as ‘thinking’ (doxa). The prayer this day is that we too have the experience and the power of beholding Christ in his glory.
[note: these 12 day of Christmas Bible verses and prayers were from a Church in Australia which I had found and printed out over a decade ago and the contemplations were notes derived from that Church’s meditations which I then abridged (they were really long). All I remember is that church was a ministry by a Dutch minister that had emigrated to Australia and after his passing could not find out the name changed by that small congregation, if it still exists, so not able to provide a link to the source material.]
There is also a prayer from the Collects for the Epiphany:

The keywords for this Collect are ‘spiritual discernment’ where now we see by faith where through their wisdom the Wise Men saw the Divinity hidden behind the veil in newborn flesh.

Researchers at Socket discovered two Chrome extensions using the same name, “Phantom Shuttle,” that were posing as tools for proxy routing and network speed testing (via Bleeping Computer). According to the researchers, the extensions have been active since at least 2017.
Both extensions were published under the same developer name and marketed toward foreign trade workers who need to test internet connectivity from different regions. They were sold as subscription-based tools, with prices ranging from roughly $1.40 to $13.60.
At a glance, everything looked normal. The descriptions matched the functionality. The pricing seemed reasonable. The problem was what the extensions were doing after installation.
Socket researchers say Phantom Shuttle routes all your web traffic through proxy servers controlled by the attacker. Those proxies use hardcoded credentials embedded directly into the extension’s code. To avoid detection, the malicious logic is hidden inside what appears to be a legitimate jQuery library.
It is my opinion anyone that uses Google Chrome is a fool. The most unsecured browser yet. While this is not Google itself, Google itself spies on every user.

The necessity and advantage of the grace of love. (1-3) Its excellency represented by its properties and effects; (4-7) and by its abiding, and its superiority. (8-13)
8-13 Charity is much to be preferred to the gifts on which the Corinthians prided themselves. From its longer continuance. It is a grace, lasting as eternity. The present state is a state of childhood, the future that of manhood. Such is the difference between earth and heaven. What narrow views, what confused notions of things, have children when compared with grown men! Thus shall we think of our most valued gifts of this world, when we come to heaven. All things are dark and confused now, compared with what they will be hereafter. They can only be seen as by the reflection in a mirror, or in the description of a riddle; but hereafter our knowledge will be free from all obscurity and error. It is the light of heaven only, that will remove all clouds and darkness that hide the face of God from us. To sum up the excellences of charity, it is preferred not only to gifts, but to other graces, to faith and hope. Faith fixes on the Divine revelation, and assents thereto, relying on the Divine Redeemer. I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

Indeed, however, charity travels far deeper than dollars and gifts. Before charity even begins, it originates within the mind in the form of compassion – itself born from experience and reflection/understanding that “there by the grace of God go I”. Of course, one first needs to have at least an iota of what that “simple” line means.
Unfortunately charity is often “made unclean” when the real intention is to somehow “profit” from the seemingly generous (the lie). This is what upset Jesus regarding those who “elevate” themselves while “pretending” to be compassionate. This is also the fake “caring” shown by politicians, clergy, and their Mis-shepherded sheep regarding “uncontrolled” movement of peoples. The profit and self “elevation” is the primary driver and not God given compassion from understanding.
That being said we are also obliged to remind ourselves that we were\are “sojourners” in a foreign place also, and to remember how that feels. That helping hand, that drink of “water”, that “small” kindness (charity) (mercy) sure went a long way on our journey – without which life may have turned out a whole lot different.

Government Threatens Seizure of 85-yr-old’s Entire Farm for Irrigating Wrong Field
State officials are preparing to take the land and legacy of a farmer for the crime of water “violations.”
The government is preparing to take the private land and legacy of an 85-year-old farmer for the crime of irrigation. Why? He watered his crops without regulatory approval.
“I didn’t use a drop past my legal rights, but because I put it on the wrong field, I’m a criminal and the state wants to take everything I have,” Bob Greiff says. “It’s all about control. And power.”
In response to Greiff’s water “violations,” the Washington State Department of Ecology levied a series of fines totaling $121,000 and slapped a lien on his property. The department issued press releases championing its actions, and portrayed Greiff as an environmental outlaw. Notably, Ecology officials are not penalizing Greiff for the amount of water pumped, but rather, the location applied. Put it where we say, or else.

Evening Prayer For Forgiveness
Heavenly Father, thank You for bringing me through this day and Lord, forgive me for the times when I have wandered outside Your best will for me, instead of trusting You implicitly.
Thank You, that You are such a gracious Shepherd to me and that You come and rescue me even when I lose my way and stray from the path that You have laid out for me.
As I look back over today, I know Lord that there were things that I should have said and done differently, and times when I reacted in a manner that was not honouring Your holy name. Forgive me I pray, but thank You, Father, that You always faithfully prepared to gently bring me back to Yourself.
Give me a good night’s sleep I pray, knowing that there is no condemnation because I am in Christ, and may I wake up in the morning refreshed and ready to do Your will. In Jesus’ name I pray,

Heavenly Father, as I lie down to sleep tonight, I pray that You would guard my sleeping and protect my mind from wandering thoughts and unnecessary planning. Teach me to wait for Your perfect timing and not to try to plan my future in my own strength.
Lord, I know that You have scheduled every day of my life. Help me to trust You in all things and rely on You to lead me along the straight path and guide me in the direction that You would have me to go.
Give me patience to wait for Your perfect timing, and may I not trust in my own abilities and scheming, but rather rest in Your love and trust my future into Your hands.
