Why The A-10 Thunderbolt II Uses High Mounted Engines
Yes the A-10 engines are mounted where they are to protect them as much as possible from both guided and unguided anti-aircraft fire. It can fly on one engine and all systems essential for controlled powered flight have redundancy. The Pilot sits in a titanium armor “bathtub”. The aircraft was designed around it’s massive gun.
Based on the operational experience in the war in Iraq there is no combat aircraft capable of ground support missions in the USAF that is more reliable than the A-10. In Iraq at any one time, 95.7% of A-10s were ready for mission deployment. No other aircraft capable of ground attack in the USAF can boast such a record.

1978 Continental Mark V – King of the Road
My son bought and restored a ’74 Mark IV in ’97 and in ’98 used it to take his new wife on their Honeymoon road trip to the Rockies in Colorado & Wyoming. They had a total blast and the car performed beautifully the entire trip. It had the smoothest ride of any car I’ve ever been in.
