White House National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett always does a good job of framing the current status without impeding the negotiating strategy of the White House trade delegation.
In this morning’s interview, happy Hassett outlines the motivation for China to quickly get to an agreement on principle about their U.S. trade position, and the structure of the personnel who are present on Beijing’s behalf to organize the discussion. As noted earlier, Bessent and Greer were very careful in their language to promote positive advancement of agreement to the framework but avoid calling the outcome of the discussions a completed deal.

No doubt President Trump is leaning back a little following the White House statement. The Chinese announcements are not as forcefully positive as the White House ‘headline’ press release. There’s a disconnect afoot that needs to be reconciled quickly or it makes the White House look weak while cunning panda smiles.
It would be surprising to see an actual “trade agreement” with China, before the commitments from ASEAN countries to stop transnational shipping exploitation are in place.

He makes my day. I also miss Kudlow and Navarro. I think Navarro is still involved. And we get to see Kudlow on Fox, but they don’t give him as much air time.
I sincerely believe that we must trust our very-experienced negotiators, even when dealing with a “panda.”
These negotiations must be SECRET. We all understand this. No one will speak clearly, until they clearly can. “Them’s the rules.” Got it.
But, Donald Trump has literally spent his life doing “deals.” I think it’s a mistake to be TOO afraid of a panda, or a dragon.
Our last “self-made millionaire President,” Jimmy Carter (RIP), was in the business of Agriculture. Very different. But, our President still also earned his wings. He is not merely “a politician.” Oh, no.
This “trade” situation has been much too wrong, for much too long. Even a panda understands this. “Trade must go on. But no longer like this.”

I also believe that Trump et al have gamed this whole thing out….he is a developer and this is exactly what developers do…move the vision from concept to concrete covering every facet along the way….on a schedule.

As far as opening markets to US. CCP rigs the courts. in a dispute US companies will always lose.
The U.S. simoly includes conditions, in the deal; first off, any other nations that allow china to trans-ship thru their country, to avoid tariffs will be cut off if ANY trade with the U.S. Thats a given and is in each deal made with each country.
Beyond that, China is caught restricting their markets, stealing I.P., dumping or manipulating currency, or smuggling fentanyl precursors, and the U.S. ramps up tariffs.
No courts needed, if you out it right there inthe agreement, and China signs it.
The White House Announcement was essentially, fake news.

Sundance, I am essentially lost. Who said something that was fake? The White House? What was said that is fake?
What was said that is not fake? We know there is a process going on, and everything has implications. I don’t think we really expect or know anything more than that.
The headlines put out, echoing the heading of the WH announcement, was that a deal was done, completo, fini; such was not true, the reality was that some progress was made, mostly in the agreement to continue to talk in search of agreement.
It was oversold, why, and who by, is the question.
Hassett is certainly optimistic
Trump learned his lesson in his first term, when China promised to import an additional $200 billion in U.S. goods and ended up importing none of it. So the key phrase here is “an opening up of China.”
So is that post above by PDJT not true? There really is not much substance to it anyway.
I knew it was too good to be true… and I remember in 2019-20 how the Chinese agreed to a deal until they changed their minds…
When the deals are successful and blue collar jobs are thriving more, I imagine somewhere that “Happy’s Place” could be a tavern / afterwork hangout in honor of Mr. Hassett.
He’s like a combination of Sid and Tigger, mellow and bouncy.
