Portuguese explorer, killed while on voyage to circumnavigate the world, by Filipino natives at 41

Biography: Ferdinand Magellan was a Portuguese explorer best known for leading the first expedition to circumnavigate the Earth, although he himself did not complete the journey. Born into a family of minor Portuguese nobility, Magellan became interested in exploration at a young age.

Magellan served the Portuguese crown in various capacities, including military campaigns in India and Africa, but later moved to Spain after a falling out with the Portuguese king. In service to Spain, he proposed an ambitious plan to reach the Spice Islands (now part of Indonesia) by sailing westward, thereby circumventing Portuguese-controlled routes.

He set sail in 1519 with a fleet of five ships. Although he faced challenges, including mutiny and severe navigational hurdles, Magellan successfully entered the Pacific Ocean by navigating through the strait that now bears his name at the southern tip of South America.

Magellan was killed in the Philippines during a skirmish with local tribes, never completing the circumnavigation himself. One of his ships, however, the Victoria, led by Juan Sebastián Elcano, returned to Spain in 1522, thus completing the first circumnavigation of the Earth. Only 18 of the original 270 crew members survived.

COMMENTARY FOR ROMANS 8

“The freedom of believers from condemnation. (1-9) Their privileges as being the children of God. (10-17) Their hopeful prospects under tribulations. (18-25) Their assistance from the Spirit in prayer. (26,27) Their interest in the love of God. (28-31) Their final triumph, through Christ. (32-39)”

“18-25 The sufferings of the saints strike no deeper than the things of time, last no longer than the present time, are light afflictions, and but for a moment. How vastly different are the sentence of the word and the sentiment of the world, concerning the sufferings of this present time! Indeed the whole creation seems to wait with earnest expectation for the period when the children of God shall be manifested in the glory prepared for them. There is an impurity, deformity, and infirmity, which has come upon the creature by the fall of man. There is an enmity of one creature to another. And they are used, or abused rather, by men as instruments of sin. Yet this deplorable state of the creation is in hope. God will deliver it from thus being held in bondage to man’s depravity. WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.

I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.

Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.

With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me. 

Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.

well, up to now it was a kind of slow news day, so here we go again.😉

after securing summer employment, 
off i went to bunk with my sister in Hingham, Ma for the duration.
great town, lovely beach, terrific dock, with the harbor having
a somewhat moderating effect on the open sea beyond.
i say “somewhat”, because, with very strong winds,
the harbor was also prone to concentrating the effect
of a rough sea within it’s approximately 2 mile length.
but it was a fantastic spot – only a two block walk, picturesque, off-leash dogs allowed,
not many people, and while the plentiful horseshoe crabs were a bit troublesome, 
nothing you couldn’t navigate around.

as days off were limited, went every time i could no matter what the forecast.
however, coming from Chicago, my understanding of “gale force winds”
meant securing the patio furniture, and “high tide”
was something that could float your boat – literally.
(if you’ve read some of my other dog stories, you’re probably wondering
how i’ve made it this far – i don’t blame you, i’m just as shocked as you are. 😂 )

so off my dog and i went to the beach one cloudy, blustery day for a swim and a walk.
that also included one of her favorite things, dock diving, 
which certainly wasn’t something in the public consciousness back then.
even at high tide, the drop to the water was a good 10-12′ from that dock,
but that was no deterrent – it may well have been part of the fun.
all i know is she would run down the dock, jump off, swim back, and do it all over again,
entirely self guided, until i had to snap on her leash to continue our walk down the beach. 

that day, the sea was choppy, and getting more so as we continued.
“choppy” as in whitecaps and a swell that was fast increasing in height.
the wind had picked up to a good 45 mph or more and even the seagulls were floating on the water that day,
not even trying to fight the harsh winds.
at that moment, a confluence of events occurred that shakes me to the core even today.

suddenly, just inside the mouth of the harbor, i saw a huge water spout.
and then the body of an enormous breaching whale.

some dogs have better long distance vision than short distance vision.
for example, a dog that can mark a bird fall at 100 yards, 
but can’t catch a biscuit when standing right in front of you.
some have good near vision and are biscuit catching stars, 
but consistently need help on a long mark.
this particular dog had long distance vision to rival binoculars…and she saw the spout.

now, as best i can figure, from her perspective, and being a retriever
both in avocation as well as vocation, that water spout, at that distance,
looked exactly like a duck or goose hitting the water after being shot, and making a BIG splash.
you see where this is going.

i couldn’t stop it – she was in the water before i even got the words out.
this dog LOVED the water, and was an excellent swimmer – good technique and STRONG.
but by now the swell was 10′, the wind was howling and whipping my words to Rhode Island,
the tide was coming in, and i was waving my arms to the back of her head.

and if she got to the whale?? drowned was my best guess.

i watched in horror as she got farther and farther out,
now at least 1/2 way to the harbor entrance and the whale – a full mile or better.
all i could see was her head as she swam up the crest of the waves, 
then disappeared in the trough, 
with me praying i would see her again on the next crest.
as the distance increased, she looked smaller and smaller, a tiny dot on the huge waves.
it was terrifying.
i started to take my shoes off.
was a lifeguard in high school, but this was beyond dangerous.

i hesitated, still yelling and waving my arms, when all of a sudden
i caught sight of a windsurfer in a wetsuit practically flying across the water to my right,
the only other person crazy enough to be out in those conditions.
i guess, on reflection, it was great windsurfing weather, but yikes.
i didn’t think he saw me because he tacked out towards the harbor entry
and then started cutting across.

then i realized he had figured it out.
he turned in towards the beach and got close enough to holler, 
in a very distinct Boston Brahmin accent:
“Do you want me to turn her around?”
“yes”, i screamed, “Pleeease!”

out he went and got in front of her.
he was yelling something and with his one free hand gesturing towards the beach,
and circling to prevent her from going any further out,
and by golly, he got her turned around.
after what seemed like an interminable stretch of praying and calling,
and with the windsurfer’s escort, hallelujah, she made it back to dry land!

i was so shaken it took me a second to notice that 
instead of being exhausted and properly thankful (🤣),
my dog kept looking at the whale who was still out there.
uh, noooooo.

the windsurfer swung by close enough to shore to make sure everything was ok
and i thanked him profusely.
nice young guy, very tall, longish dark hair, angular features,
a face i was sure i had seen before, perhaps on tv,
maybe an up and coming Massachusetts politician?
i had heard he liked to windsurf there, and somebody pointed him out one time,
but he was too far away for me to verify it.

will never know for sure, but that is how John Kerry saved my dog, and me too,
and – say what you will – i am forever grateful!!

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and his family as they seek to lead America back to You. Also, we pray for Angels to protect and support our Sundance as he works for justice and peace.

The Liberal Govt seems to still be holding grudges and cancelling access to peoples’ bank accounts as they did in the days of the Trucker protest.

“My candidacy was confirmed officially on Tuesday. That same day, I tried to access my bank account and could not. I contacted my bank, Vancity, and was informed the account had been frozen as per direction from the government.

I had accessed my account just two days prior, so the timing was clear. I had not been informed of this freezing by anyone — not the bank, not the government. No one attempted to contact me. I was completely blindsided.

When I contacted my bank they refused to give me any information beyond the fact they were following government orders, and they gave me a number and name to contact.

I called the number, and got a voicemail saying the employee was on vacation all week. So basically this guy froze my bank account and immediately went on vacation.”

I speculate that the coroner will rule her “death by misadventure”
