I’ve come to believe that the single most important reason that they wish to keep a war going (and getting rid of any potential leader who doesn’t want to continue the war like the Romanian candidate) is that they can only see their way to controlling power in their countries through the continuation of the war and war’s economic benefits. The corporate and bank masters behind these leaders will not be pleased if the war ends. Citizens are going to be furious that so much money was wasted on a needless conflict that didn’t gain them anything except higher prices.
The other reasons to continue the war would be retention of Ukrainian assets they’ve bought or are hoping to gain, getting their hands on frozen Russian assets, or money laundering tax dollars back to government officials. But to me, those are side benefits to the main one – to retain the power and control of the elites.
