Must tell you about what happened to us yesterday…
Our Jack, one of the twin grandlads now at university, phoned me in the afternoon. He NEVER phones so I was quite excited.
We were having the most lovely chat…when there was a heavy knock at the door. Chris answered it. Another door to door salesman we thought…so I kept on talking.
And when I looked up, there was a handsome young man Chris had invited in. Kept on talking while looking intently at a figure who looked familiar, but as I didn’t have my specs on I couldn’t quite make out. This “stranger” looked like Jack. But I said to myself it couldn’t be Jack because I was talking to Jack!!! 🤔 Chris was hugging him, which should have been the giveaway because Chris does not hug salesmen 😂
But it was Jack!!! He and his brother and sister and their dad were meeting up here so they could attend a Baylor football game in Waco today. So before he went to his house, he stopped here first!!!! Surprise!!! And bless him, he remembered that we liked fudge from Buccee’s, so had brought us a box.
It was THE BEST surprise and my heart just exploded. He stayed for quite a while, and we were able to catch up. Oh, and we passed him “gas money”, not wanting him to be out of pocket for his thoughtful gift.
What a blessing and joy we never saw coming. And I just had to share….in these tumultuous times, something which gladdened our hearts. Much needed. Thank you, Father….THANK YOU!!! 😌🙏🏻💕

Well, here at my Central Indiana home yesterday we had 30-35 mph wind sustained and gusts of 60 mph. That went on for hours. So far no significant damage done that I have found. I had taken down my 4 x6 ft. colors and my Gadsden flag and put up my 3 x 5 ft. storm flag.
Lots of sticks down. None over 1 1/2″ diameter but enough they’ll fill up my fire ring. A couple of the corner pieces of the aluminum siding on the old garage came off but easy enough for me to put back on. Power flickered once but came right back on.
A second wave coming in this afternoon but I don’t think the winds will be a high. So far we’ve gotten 1 1/2″ of rain according to my rain gauge and there is more of that coming this afternoon also.
The devastation everywhere, rah. It’s awful. I’m glad you and Sherri are still standing 🙏🏻💕

So back in my rabblerousing younger days in Tinseltown. I found myself in a juke joint in Hollywood having one too many beers while chatting with an English blonde with full cockney and well. I was raised on the Beatles too, so count me interested..
As we sat a very obscure track from The Doors came on and as I immediately recognized it as the one track my next door neighbor and lifelong mentor ( RIP Paul Rothchild ) who was their producer for their records included me on.
One night he drags me down as we hop into his 911 and he drags me down to the studio to “march” on this track “The Unknown Soldier” an anti war cut This is 1968.5 -69? that was released as a single at the time but it was no “LIght My Fire”.
As I invariably only ever wore my motorcycle boots as a 13 year old kid back then, he said “perfect, c’mon let’s go. We hop into the 911 and vrooom to Sunset Blvd.. He knew i was already a proficient drummer and so me and a couple Doors marched a couple times around a plywood riser in the best studio in LA. The rest is trivia ha!
That’s the last I really ever thought of it. Of course I’ve told the story a time or two.
But here’s the punchline, and thanks for indulging my idle time anyone having read this far 🙂
After “The Unknown Soldier” song ended on this jukebox as we chatted over our beer ( You see, as the record played I made absolutely certain she knew it WAS ME MARCHING and she began to eye me dubiously from that point on ( in that dumb middle eight in the song replete with RIFLE SHOT! ) she suddenly thought me a bit odd ( moi?! ) as it was clear she could not imagine why a stranger, would suddenly tell her he was on the record- not playing a such, but – “marching”?!!
The next record that came on was the very record posted by Patience above “Rider’s on The Storm” and if you’ll remember, the song begins with the sounds of rain and water with a piano backdrop of cascading sound all combining into the classic record we probably all know and love ( well, sorta ha ).
The cutest blonde Brit girls turns to me utterly deadpan, as this record begins and says in the most perfect Cockney accent you’d ever hope to hear:
“So, I suppose yer the f***in’ raindrops, as well!?
I thanked her for the chat and the beer(s), and turned tail and..
Never used that line again. Ever. 🙂

I remember that guy Chris Cross. He helped create Yacht Rock! There were actual radio station shows formatting it. Was fun to debate what was/wasn’t yacht rock. This one is not really it but it sure sounds like Stephen Stills is singing about a sailboat 🙂
Adored Crosby, Stills & Nash…and later Young…back when I was at the University of Texas. Something about their voices which suited the times.
They were beyond fantastic Betsy! In yet another synchronicity the guy ( mentor of mine ) I mentioned briefly upthread in my cadence laden ( eyeroll here ) vignette! was the guy that formed CS&N in his living room. He ( Paul Rothchild produced The Doors-J.Joplin among others had them ( CS&N ) first singing together ON TAPE.
The story of them and how they met is told by Cass Elliot ( Mama’s and Papa’s ) and also by Joni Mitchell who they all hungout and mingled with, and they all debate at whose house they all sung at first.
But my pal Paul R. cut their first demos. He was carte blanche at Elektra Records, owing to his having just made them gazillionaires with The Doors. So as he looked around for deal – though they could have just signed to Elektra – David Geffen ( Oh, I got stories… ) swooped in like the corporate raider of singer/songwriter genre, and took them instead to Ahmet Ertegun the Turkish Diplomat that owned Atlantic Records. Same guy who gave the Stones their own record label. Brown Sugar baby! They were all on it.
Geffen. He got his start making “real” money with Jackson Browne his first LP MADE Geffen at Asylum.
But my family fed the kid for 5+ years prior while in “development” in our little house in The Canyon. Oh, well. Lots of stuff for us stored in heaven 🙂

I didn’t have tv as a kid so not many cartoon watching. But that Felix the Cat theme is indelibly etched.
Man, I could hear that at 100 and go oh no. It’s the… Felix the Cat song! 🙂

I am placing this link in because there is a photo in it which I have seen as a meme but did not keep, I am sorry to say, or I would have posted it on its own.
The impact of it has stayed with me for years and breaks my heart. Because I know the young man pictured, has reached such a point in his life that the action he is about to take seems to be the only option open for him.
Even now, I find myself weeping…for him and for untold numbers people just like him who have reached the bottom.
For the young man pictured, his earthly angel, appointed by God Almighty, was there for him. I think my family in these branches will be uplifted if they read this…
For those of you who do read it, you will know instantly which photo I am speaking of.
Lord, keep us ever mindful of the needs of others 🙏🏻 Some people we meet every day who are short and snappy in their encounters with us most probably have something going on on their lives which they fervently wish weren’t there…kindness even in the face of such interactions just might be a blessing when it is needed most.
God eternally bless this “earthly angel” and all those whom he has given hope to 🙏🏻 💕

Yes, he’s a remarkable hero.
The fact of the matter is that very few people have a network others who will simply silently listen to them, but….. This guy, he is a PRO, and particularly so with utter strangers.
Over many decades many people have shared their entire life story with me, but I have never encountered anyone bound and determined to end their life.
He is an Angel 😇
Someone like this man has been given a special gift, girl. And God arranged for him to be exactly where he was needed with each encounter. There is no question in my mind this is so. He knows what we need before we know it ourselves. Such are His mysterious prayers… and proof that while the young man on the bridge may have felt so alone, he wasn’t. 🙏🏻💕

That was a phenomenal video. How precious are the little ones even in the womb. It must grieve God so horribly much that so many are destined for death. Little Toby is one very lovely little boy. I’m so glad the parents were able to document his little life progression.

Thank you Betsy. This reminds me of my own 32 weekend at 3 pounds. So many tubes everywhere. I couldn’t hold him seemingly forever. I could only touch him through the port holes of his incubator. Amazingly, 6 weeks later I brought him home and the flowing day we were on a plane from California to Alabama. His first bed was a dresser drawer. Such memories. He is now almost 53.
