Saturday marks the 9th time President Trump has spoken before the gun rights group, promising them stronger protections for their Second Amendment rights.
“I promise you this, with me at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, no one will lay a finger on your firearms — just as took place for four years when I was your president,” Trump said at an NRA event in Harrisburg, Pa, in February. “I will uphold those glorious words, ‘shall not be infringed.’”
Trump told supporters at last night’s Minnesota GOP Lincoln-Reagan Dinner that he has heard rumors that the NRA will endorse him at the event. The NRA has already offered praise for the former president in the lead-up to the event.
“President Trump is under relentless attacks because he is not afraid to fight for those who share his American values,” NRA Interim Executive Vice President & CEO Andrew Arulanandam said.”He is uniquely qualified to address our members who know what it’s like to stand for something, even when it’s hard. The NRA and our millions of members around the country have President Trump’s back, and we know he has ours.”

The assault on the right to bear arms is but one front in the war against individual rights. Is there a single country that can now honestly claim to belong to the idea that used to be The West?

I’m glad President Trump is saying that but he needs to make sure he does more to secure our rights from the communists than just his next four years.

Maybe one ought to rethink that what/whom and the worship thereof. It is only due to the potency and heavy presence of the what/whom that the 2nd Amendment has to be grasped so tightly. Without that what/whom, the 2nd Amendment could be stricken from the land, but the people would remain free and secure, for there would be no what/whom to abuse them and strip them of their formerly 2nd Amendment rights.

Excellent speech and presentation. As someone said earlier, the smaller audience makes a difference, not just for the audience, but also for Trump. So many stories, he seemed very relaxed. The closing litany was longer than usual…I don’t know, it just felt more intimate.
A perfect match. The organization that conceived of the NFA in 1934 and a former president who endorsed red flag laws.

An armed society is a polite society.
I wish that the NRA wasn’t mired in a corruption scandal. There will be a showdown later in the annual meeting between the reformers and the corrupt establishment. The establishment will probably mostly win but the key question is how much ground do they have to give up to the reformers. If the establishment holds the line, the only remaining hope for fixing it is a New York judge (shudder).
Other organizations have begun to step up. The Second Amendment Foundation is very active on the legal front. New organizations have evolved on the political front but don’t yet have the clout that the NRA once had. Even the GOA seems to evolved from a grift to a respectable organization. What is missing though is a replacement for the large NRA infrastructure. Local organizations and especially firearms training are typically affiliated with the NRA. If the NRA goes down, a new umbrella organization will have to be created or the structure will fragment.
The threat environment has evolved in very dangerous ways. (See Sundance’s other post about CBDC.) Trudeau really showed the Left what can be done with financial instruments. Gun owners shouldn’t worry about door kickers, they should worry about banks and insurance companies. Unfortunately, most of the Right is still asleep.
