You know things have collapsed into an unserious candidacy when this is the predominate conversation about Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. However, it is a little more than just ordinarily funny; it’s factually well-deserved snark.
The issue of Ron DeSantis wearing weird boots and lifts, to give himself the illusion of greater physical stature, has been building over time on various internet discussion formats. Yesterday, podcaster Patrick Bet-David took the issue directly to the source. The discomfort on DeSantis’ face was clear and palpable – even as he claims he is 5′ 11″ at the end of the clip. WATCH:
.
Politico even did a forensic and expert analysis using three experts in shoes, boots and lifts [READ HERE]. Seriously, it’s their #1 most read article. lolol 😂 The determination by the experts is that Ron DeSantis DOES wear lifts. Everything about this story is hilarious and has become viral internet meme fuel.
Unfortunately, once the meme momentum gains this level of popularity, it sticks.
My sincere apologies in advance, but I must confess to my nonstop laughter.

Standard Lucchese cowboy boots do have several with a raised toe. Go to their website and see for yourself. I am not a DeSantis fan at all but this article is an unnecessary cheap shot beneath what Sundance should be lowering himself to. Let’s stay out of the gutter.
The TRUTH is priceless .
Let’s refrain from clutching the pearls.
Humor is one of our best weapons and we have few enough at the moment.
Great thread today!
Lighten up, it doesn’t matter. DeSantis is uncomfortable with being short and is trying to compensate. Bad character flaw for a politician.
Jill Casey manages hia makeup, which makes him look pasty and weird. My two bits say she’s behind the “tallening” boots as well. She has made a mess of his campaign. But he let her. According to those in the state house, he never maede a decision without dragging it by her..And if she disagreed, he went with her opinion on what should be done.
He has very short feet. My guess is that he is 5’9 max.
LuLu; I went back and looked at pictures of DeSantis prior to running for president. He used to wear a leather workboot style shoe which seems to have the same, strange appearance possibly due to an inner lift. I think his mistake was going on the cheap with the cowboy boots instead of having them custom designed.
The Best answer he could have given during the interview would have been to laugh, take off his boot and show Bet-David that he doesn’t have lifts; but he couldn’t do that, could he?
Only if he saw it coming and had a normal boot hidden to display when challenged.
Not that we wouldn’t figure how he flubbed trying to pull that off.
Because they compensate in other ways.
Funny is funny
.
The arch. Look at the arch. It’s ridiculous.
.
DeSantis did it to himself. The boots look ridiculous and draw attention.
DeSantis follows bad advice, both in politics and shoe styles, as usual.
DeSantis deserves every shot that’s fired at him, “cheap” or otherwise.
If the alleged “cheap shot” was false and totally fabricated without truth, I’d agree with you.
But when even a so-called “cheap” shot contains substantive truth, then it’s valid. And that also means that’s not coming from “the gutter.”
A plastic candidate runs a controlled (manipulated) campaign based upon disingenuous representations, and even tries to disguise even his own physical stature? He made himself Or allowed others to make him a large and easy target for ridicule.
Shots have been and will continue to be be taken until he starts being honest about who he is, to whom he is in debited for the large donations, and what policies they’ve demanded for their money. Or until he drops out of the race.
I’m not following on this one. At all. I fail to see what boots have to do with donations. It seems like a stupid side track to me. And so according to the prevailing opinion here, I fail the MAGA litmus test. Which I increasingly am inclined to give less of a shite about.
What astounds me is that so many Trump supporters have become a very exclusive clan, and they are most happy to exclude a lot of people. I think that is ill advised.
Add: I’m hoping you don’t take offense at my comment. I replied to you because I’ve always valued your contributions. You make me think.
Trump supporters are indeed an exclusive clan, if by that you mean we only want those who love our country and want to save it from destruction from the left and those like DeSantis, who work for them. Sounds like the best clan anyone could be in unless they hate our country and want to destroy it.
Okay, that clears the boot thing right up for me. Along with the idea that every vote counts. My mistake. There are people whose votes just aren’t good enough. Yep, I get it.
Hello Menagerie; no offense is taken. I wasn’t trying to connect boots to donations; my apologies if that wasn’t clear. Glad you posted to challenge the issue. A few others may be scratching their heads too.
My post was in response to Hittman’s post which I inferred as being critical of Sundance’s observations about the media’s unusually narrow focus on DeSantis’ boots. My (only) point is that the original ridicule stems from DeSantis’ disingenuousness that is observable across so many aspects of his campaign; the gaudy boots with lifts being just ONE more disingenuous (if not somewhat humorous) attempt to misrepresent himself (his height) to the public.
I have not personally sought to “exclude” any Treeper in particular. I do infrequently disagree with a post and strive to provide an (objective?) rationale for the point of view that I felt was missed or misinterpreted.
I thought Hittman was focused only on the boots ridicule and possibly did not connect the boots/lifts issue as being symptomatic of the larger issue of Desantis’ disingenuousness. Hope that clarifies my post at least.
I wasn’t really intending to challenge you, or your comment specifically, and I apologize for coming off that way. I am alarmed that so many here are becoming one voice, one completely identical voice and ridicule anyone who doesn’t measure up to their One True Standard.
I see exclusion, lack of logic, ridiculous lack of reason, and frankly, often meanness in some of the comments. So, I appreciate yours. I may disagree with some of what you say, but you have a reasoned position and it isn’t all ridicule.
👍👍
First reaction was similar. Was, “Like, really do we have to be this petty?”. After a while, I get it.
“I fail to see what boots have to do with donations. It seems like a stupid side track to me.”
Donations from non-big donors, the ones from Joe The “Conservative Non-Trump Voter” is based on DeSantis being an honest, integrity-filled, moral, Christian, More presidential MAGA candidate and the boots discredit this. It is a visual that exposes him the way all the comments and discussions with pro-DeSantis that have taken up zillions of space at CTH could not.
“I fail to see what boots have to do with donations.”
Tell that to Hitler & Gobbells!
I’m assuming you’ve read through these comments. Do you not find a number of them ridiculous? Far fetched? Having nothing at all to do with the important issues?
I find DeSantis to be potentially insecure, and I don’t trust lots of things going on with his financial backing and supporters. There are issues with him I have concerns about.
There are good things about him too, just like everyone in this world has good and bad. To have people descend to the level they have in their hatred of him just confuses me. I do not get it. And I do not see any good that can come of it for the Trump campaign.
At best, apparently I lack a sense of humor. At worst, maybe I march to a different drummer.
You seem curiously out to lunch Menagerie. What gives?
You seem to have a hard time with criticism directed at RD.
We know he is done, it makes no difference what we say about him, he will lose.
We enjoy mocking him because we want it to bother his Puppetmaster Billionaires.
Short guy RD represents that FILTHY class of Anti Trumpets. Thats why we do it.
RD should never have entered the race.
Yeah, consider me permanently out to lunch. I have no problem with criticism. Make it matter. Belittling potshots that have to do with nothing, nothing at all that matters, I don’t get it.
Well then you do you, and we’ll do us.
Well then, as always, I will. Thanks for your permission.
And the short guy comments are repulsive.
Its nice to have something to laugh about in our day to day living. A lot of not so laughable stuff is going on that its nice to have Sundance post a piece that we can poke fun along with him. Someone posted the song ‘short people’ and I thought, you know that was a great song and people really enjoyed the laugh. Liberals today would be in the streets. By the way, I’m not laughing at short people but with them as I am too.
RDS is repulsive and happens to be short. Rand Paul is short but no one notices. Vive la dif·fé·rence, oui?
Oh yes. I frequently see comments (in almost every comment thread) that I find sophomoric and that add nothing substantive to the conversation. Often they are from folks who might be new to the platform because I don’t recognize names.
But sometimes I am also guilty of reacting to a comment thread subtopic in a similar manner, so I’m not offended if others look at my quick post and scroll past it….. I’m just as human and fallible as the next person…. I ask for our Father’s forgiveness frequently.
This boots topic is one of sarcasm / sarcastic ridicule, and not everyone is always receptive to that style of humor at any given moment. Me included. Some days there is a conversation in a thread that simply “does a 10,000 ft. fly-by” over my head. Usually I just move silently past it, but I have on rare occasion stopped and questioned what was meant by ____.
I like that in CTH we can have rational, reasonable conversations about serious topics that stimulate passionate opinions, and can disagree hopefully without insulting others or demeaning ourselves.
And you Admins usually help get the occasional callous offenders back in line…
Peace!
Many people lack superior writing and expression skills.
And in this era of serious censorship (thoughts and words), these people take refuge in websites – and that is a good thing.
However demeaning a comment might be, at least that individual had the opportunity to relieve him/herself of its emotions. Very important in the wider scheme of life.
BTW: A sense of humor does help. So many bad things are happening simultaneously, one does need respite.
👍
Thank You for your appreciation. I am honored. BEST.
I am with you Menagerie…
DeSantis was the best governor in the country. He won reelection going away. He was a shoo in for 2028 but antiTrump fat cat Establishment Uniparty donors saw in him an opportunity to rid themselves of MAGA Trump the way McConnell and Ryan dispensed with the Tea Party that gave them the majority. He couldn’t resist their sirens’ song, left FL to campaign for president, and lost it all. He doesn’t deserve our hatred, just our sorrow that he didn’t have the character and good sense to resist the people who are now ditching him for a much less capable governor in Nikki Haley. Now THAT is someone worth our scorn!
This comment I can agree with.
Well said, I agree.
The word ‘insecure’ is the best word to describe DeSantis.
Insecure in every which way of the word; from the top of his head (brain) to the tip of his toes.
Definitely not presidential material.
The gutter is all that’s left for Ron…
DeSantis is the gutter dweller and he deserves any derision and enjoyment anyone gets from this. DeSantis is nothing more than an employee of the Bush operatives and GOPe millionaires. He’s a sell out and opted to help further the decline of our nation if elected.
Seriously?
Mockery about a Pathetic FILTHY Con Man is not “Gutter” Politics.
Go clutch your pearls somewhere else. Laughter is a necessity these days.
You are a Meathead Chef Boy RD fan and it shows.
Ron is like a Crappy Politician, only SHORTER….
Your comment reflects the discouraging meanness and name calling Menageria speaks of.
To add to her sentiments, The page comments seemed to have evolved from premise of Ron’s boots and what they reflect to mocking short men in general, lessening the effectiveness of the gifted visual of Ron being a creation of handlers.
Hmm, this topic hit a sensitive nerve with this person. I feel like I’m in school.
One man’s gutter is another man’s treasure. Lighten up.
Bootgate exposes DeSantis’ weaknesses. Neither he nor his team can take a joke. You’re doing the same thing. He can’t handle pressure, he can’t handle adversity. He could never handle the 24/7 attacks that PDJT has endured since he came down the elevator in 2015.
Our enemies and allies see this weakness. Everyone would be able to push him over.
He is not fit to stand alone on the world stage and deal with our allies or enemies.
Yeah, but its clearly visible on those boots that the toes can get almost to the end.
Anyway, DeSantis’s body language gave him away. When Bet asked if he was wearing heel risers, he shook his head to state yes.
I think Im gonna enjoy reading these comments, I already see a “Get Shorty” someone needs to replace Devito’s head with a meatball
President Trump is tall. There is a lot said and studied about how tall men do much better in life than shorter men.
If Ronnie is wearing lifts to make himself “feel” better, he is no different than women who get breast implants, wear fake eyelashes/weaves/wigs, get butt-boosters, or have plastic surgery.
None of those people are at peace with who they are and how God made them. That is a sad commentary about how narcissistic people in general are today.
I would like to see these studies, sounds ridiculous to me. Joseph Stalin was 5ft 4 inches tall. Napoleon was short, and Alexander the Great was 5ft 5inches.
It has more to do with insecurities of which Ron has many that he has exposed to the world.
Keep in mind that men were generally shorter in olden times.
And the average height of a US male today is 5ft 9 inches. I’m guessing Ron is no shorter than average.
True.
Ron Paul, Marco Rubio, Ross Perot, Bobby Jindal were not tall.
Ulysses s Grant was 5ft 8in tall. John Adams was 5ft 7in tall. James Madison was 5ft 4 in tall. Matin Van Buren was 5ft 6in tall.
The point is not his height but that he’s too weak to be a president. If you can’t admit who and what you are then how can you govern with strength.
That was precisely my point, and why I mentioned his insecurities.
Sounds like they all had a shorty complex too.
I was just commenting on the notion of ‘presence’.
Putin vs Zelensky would be great examples.
Remember when Marquito Rubio was razzed for his high-heeled shoes?
That is a ludicrous comment. It may be said, lots of things can be said. Good grief.
Menagerie; I’m not quite sure why the comments in this thread are “rubbing you the wrong way” today. DeSantis started his Governorship here in Florida knowing full well he was going to betray Trump and his endorsement in a few short years. Without Trump’s endorsement, he wouldn’t have been elected, I might add. Any sunlight that highlights other areas of DeSantis’s insecurity and dishonesty and his attempts to mislead are indeed comical at this point.
Something triggered this person, but to chastise the rest of us is mean in and of itself. Most of the comments are funny not mean. There’s a big difference.
Instead of coming here and fighting with us Menagerie should take it up with Sundance.
The notion of ‘presence’ is very powerful and is not given to all. Such as when one enters a room or a restaurant, all heads turn and conversation ceases for a few seconds. Short or tall, it is a gift that projects strength. And Ronny doesn’t have that gift.
Maybe he was channeling Louis XIV. It was all the rage. Can someone photoshoop (s) his face. Lol
Don’t know how to url. Here is link.
Ron DeStilletos
As mom use to say…
“wiggle your toes so I can see if they fit”
Mr. DeSantis… wiggle those toes!
I recall FLOTUS Melania Trump being skewered by the left for wearing stilettos on her way to survey Hurricane Harvey damage. I guess this makes DeSantis’s choice of “manly footwear” (as described by Jerry Jeff Walker) fair game.
Thanks for the memory of Jerry Jeff.
grew up …rodeo. Saw Jerry Jeff many, many times.
I may be wrong but I think that was only on the way to Air Force one. I saw her in the canteen lines wearing sneakers and jean.
You are right. Media did make a big deal out of it though….
He just looks soooo uncomfortable.
He’s in way over his head and I think he knows it.
Hey don’t judge someone until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes. In lil Ronnie’s case – pumps 👢
As the saying goes…
“Because then you are a mile away, and you have their shoes” 😉
It doesn’t take an expert to see the top of Big Ron’s feet are way too high for a normal shoe or boot fit. You can also see a lump about 4 inches off the floor where it looks like a heel putting pressure on the boot leather. You can also see when he tips his foot there is the strangest joint bend about 4 inches above the normal ankle joint.
Vanity! He wants to be tall but I’ll tell you at 6’7″ it isn’t as great as many people think. I don’t fit in cars, beds, chairs, clothes, doorways, and I sweep up all the hanging cobwebs that short people miss. I am good in crowds though. If you ever want to get through a bunch of people, latch on to the tallest person you see and follow them.
I love it when I see guys like you in the grocery store. I’m a woman, 5’3″ and some shelves are just to high for me to reach anything. I’ve noticed tall guys are usually gracious and willing to help too.
Poor Ron he seems to come up short in all departments.
I am 5’2 and find men and even taller women are more than glad to help me reach higher items. Don’t remember any ever turning me down…
Ron DeSantis: Hung like Einstein and as smart as a horse. TRUMP2024
.
I don’t like that he just outright lied. “How tall are you?” “5-11”.
So I remind everyone of this. Trump was sensitive about his hair. When he was younger, he had some kind of surgery that made it worse. Then, starting in 2015, he was subject to loads of teasing and mockery regarding his hair, including speculation that maybe it was a really bad toupee. He was on a talk show when he was asked whether it was his real hair. Remember his response? He pulled and messed with his hair to show that it wasn’t a toupee.
In my lifetime I have found that real leaders are okay being humble and self-deprecating. They don’t have to put on airs or be fake.
.
Self-depreciation only shows weakness and to most people is off putting especially in a leader. A leader (if he’s a good one) already knows those things that bother them about themselves but they don’t dwell on them, nor do they feel the need to apologize for everything they say or do, which is actually just another form of self-depreciation. A good leader corrects what he feels he’s done wrong and lets others just criticize since that’s all they are capable of.
Remember the democrat/communist party and their propaganda arm, referred to as “the media”, always runs with hair-on-fire stories with the sole intention of distracting from a perceived threat to them or to cover up their criminal corruption.
In this case the threat may be their delusions that DeSantis will be the presidential candidate when their plan to imprison Trump and remove him from the ballot actually works.
Bottom line there is another story elsewhere, otherwise they would care no less about Ron’s corny looking boots.
Despite the bit of distortion due to the camera pointing up from below at DeSantis’ boots, I would bet he has some kind of “booster” in the boots to make him look taller and more “manly.” Sad to say, these adjustments do nothing to increase his charisma!
Yippee ki-yay! (An exclamation used to startle or frighten an opponent, but nah, not in this case!!)
His marriage is heading to doomsday. Ronny-Boy lost his luster. Wait for it.
I imagine people needing to jump mount their steed on the run might need a raised toe.
Bwahahaha!!
Yesterday I read the comments on YouTube associated with the PBD podcast, they were similar to those at CTH, today they were all scrubbed for more favorable ones.
Everything about this Jack hole is manufactured.
He should have replied “Tall enough to be President. “
