Media are reporting that professional golfer Tiger Woods has been taken to a local hospital for emergency surgery on his legs after a car crash near Los Angeles.
GOLF DIGEST – Tiger Woods was hospitalized after being involved in a single-car accident in Los Angeles on Tuesday morning. According to his agent, Mark Steinberg, Woods suffered “multiple” leg injuries.
“He is currently in surgery,” Steinberg told Golf Digest, “and we thank you for your privacy and support.”
According to a statement from the L.A. County Sherriff’s Department, police responded to a “roll-over traffic collision” at approximately 7:12 a.m. “The driver and sole occupant was identified as PGA golfer, Eldrick ‘Tiger’ Woods. Mr. Woods was extricated from the wreck with the ‘jaws of life’ by Los Angeles County firefighters and paramedics, then transported to a local hospital by ambulance for his injuries.” (read more)
It looks like Tiger Woods was driving a new Genesis GV80.

See comments to get an idea of just how a big of creeps & ghouls the Left is. Sad!
I’m not a Leftist, but I don’t admire this creepy, slutty, selfish man just because he plays golf well. I don’t wish him dead, but I wouldn’t care one way or another if he did die.
“Creepy, slutty, selfish man”? Looks like those epithets would better serve Lothario Bill Clinton, LBJ, JFK, Pedo Sniffer MORON BIDEN, and that DOWN LOW guy BHO. Now which of these do you admire?
Google: “Great Cocksmen of the American Presidency who are not Bill Clinton.”
You won’t hear anything from RACIST China Joe.
Statement from Donald J. Trump, 45th President of the United States of America:
“Get well soon, Tiger. You are a true champion!”
Hope he can make a complete recovery.
How much over the speed limit was he going? Thank God, he didn’t run down any kids.
Rancho Palos Verdes is up in the hills above the ocean. Hawthorne Boulevard is a long, curving, major street. Going north on it there requires one to check speed constantly and ride the brakes.
The section where the roll-over occurred is straight. The curve starts in about 2 blocks later. IMO….he must have been traveling at a high rate of speed.
Stones throw from me. Trying to piece it together, he was either turning to go on Blackhorse Rd or Peninsula High school.
Looking at the wreck, I would not think he was turning right (east) into Blackhorse. He also was not going into the high school … that little line wiggling up the hill is not a road – it’s a behind a fence (leading up to the “Snake Pit,” the rectangular practice field you can see in blue-green).
My money says he was in the right lane of Hawthorne going fast downhill and someone pulled out in front of him out of Blackhorse and he swerved left and ran straight across the median and the opposing lanes and up the hillside. Scary, scary crash. I can imagine it and it makes me shudder.
What was he doing up on top the hill at 7am? Golf Digest says he was doing a photo op at Rolling Hills Country Club on Monday afternoon? Spending the night at a friends….staying over at Trump International? Inquiring minds….. 😉
https://www.golfdigest.com/story/tiger-woods-car-accident-los-angeles
Probably a little party or something in Palos Verdes. If he stayed up all night …. or wasn’t fully awake … … then that intersection was not going to be his friend. I’ve done that early AM/up-all-night run through that intersection so many times… on short sleep, no sleep, etc.
I always paid full attention ’cause I knew that intersection was a snake that could bite one sleepy-eyed (after all, it is across Hawthorne from the “Snake Pit”), but never really thought about it in depth until what just happened to Tiger.
Let me count the various ways:
Deceptively nasty intersection, even for a sober, well-rested, non-distracted person. Any departure from that, for Tiger or for anyone, makes it tougher.,..
The true miracle in this is that he didn’t hit southbound traffic head-on. At 7:12am there is a goodly sized stream of traffic coming up that road – all the domestic help, repairmen, shop employees, etc.
Sources close to the golfer told DailyMail.com his injuries include a compound fracture and shattered ankle in one leg. He is undergoing surgery to put the pieces of his ankle back together, the source added.
“a compound fracture and shattered ankle in one leg. He is undergoing surgery to put the pieces of his ankle back together,”
I did that to both of my ankles, falling from a ladder after getting zapped by 4800 volts. Fell 30 feet onto a angled shed roof, then another 10 feet to the ground. Good for a helicopter ride to the regional Trauma Intensive Care Unit.
“Severe grade 3 open fractures bilaterally involving the tibial plafond” it said in the surgeon’s OR report. Most likely he will not be able to run anymore, or spend long periods of time traversing uneven ground.
Ad Rem, he had been involved with the Genesis tournament at Rolling Hills CC over the weekend, although he did not play due to recent back surgery. They apparently wanted more photos this morning, so he headed out of Terranea Hotel early. Someone who saw him leave said he seemed ‘very irritated’ and sped off in the loaned Genesis SUV. Once he took out the Rancho Palos Verdes welcome sign, he went into a long skid about 700 ft ending up rolling over and skidding into a hillside.
Not turning. He just lost it, crossed the highway taking down the Welcome to Rancho Palos Verdes sign in the median and then skidding into a turnover against a hill on the other side of Hawthorne. Nr. Blackhorse.
Someone asked the speed limit. 45mph. Hard to control speed on this longish downgrade.
Hawthorne Boulevard is extremely steep – 8% grade – in some sections, and near this crash site, there is even an old “truck-runaway, escape” lane.
I am not trusting the accuracy of this story. Aerial view of car shows powerlines which is West side or traveling north which is same side where car is. However when they pull out you can see a broken street sign in the street a couple hundred feet south. Either another car dragged the sign down the road or we are being fed a story.
Tiger Woods hospitalized after serious car crash – YouTube
See the msnbc helicopter crash site video…Does anybody see any brake marks?
Nothing wrong with the story. He was headed north at speed when he lost it, shot across the median taking out sign, and skidding about 700 ft., eventully rolling into hillside on west side. They had quite a time figuring out how to lift the car out with a cran w/o hitting those power lines you mention. They swung it sideways. Worked like a charm. We watched the car removal on KTLA, which is the go to channel for car chases and local mayhem. They are always first on the spot and do best coverage.
The “truck-runaway” is a ways further down.
Or texting while driving ?
Exactly! He’s a busy guy. Wouldn’t be hard to imagine he simply lost his street focus and lost it. A quick view of his call records would be revealing.
Brake failure?
Reports he was driving dowhill, hit the median break; crossed the oncoming traffic and into the hillside.
Ad rem. SoCal is a hellhole now anyway. But we were there when it was a paradise.
Paradise lost
True Joe. I’m living on an island….and I know it.
We’re still there and it is not all a hellhole. The PV peninsula is pretty nice, too.
Or using his phone.
Could have been avoiding an animal? It looks like cover there for critter habitat.
I’m very familiar with this area. You can go very fast through this section.
Tiger put Golf back in the news when he entered the scene. There was something special about his Golf.
This should be some advice for wealthy athletes: Always hire a chauffeur to drive your latest model SUV/Car.
It says he has leg injuries but I would imagine this can;t be good for his back surgery he just had.
Tiger has had many ups and downs, and not all of his personal choices have been stellar, but he showed strength of character when he refused to let cancel culture dictate his loyalties, including his friendship with President Trump. I pray for his recovery.
we loved it when he pointed out “my Mommy is Thai” and that he is “Cablinasian”
this makes me wonder if he ever got past his substance abuse problems?
I hope he makes out ok.
Substance Abuse = Alcoholism = Addiction to “Junk”
No one gets “past” and No one is ever “cured”… it is based on a “Daily Reprieve” maintaining a spiritual connection to GOD!
Friends, Family and “Society” are all affected…. regardless of the addiction.
It would be great if more people took the time to understand the nature of the problem and the wonderful “solution available to all”
Turning over your will to the God of your understanding is easy to talk about and harder to do for a lifetime!!!
BTW: Rush had a problem with pain medication… so he understood deeply!!!
Exactly, I have been an alcoholic since I was 14 (and an addict). Come from a long line of alcoholics and drug addicts. I was fortunate (yes fortunate) I was arrested and forced into counseling at that young age. Turned my life around.
You never shake it. You only manage it.
For me that means I have only a few drinks and call it quits. Others, they can’t touch it or they relapse.
He just had another back surgery and was in recovery/rehab.
Pain killers ?
5 back surgeries sounds like a lot of narcotics. As smashed as the front end is, broke his legs?
The engine breached the firewall/cockpit as I saw in the pictures. Not good for legs.
Exactly. The hood poked out over a big empty. Engines being forced into the passenger area cause fearsome leg injuries.
Life can change forever in a second.
Car accident, leg injuries, comeback — flashing images of Ben Hogan.
Prayers for his recovery, the man who single handedly revived golf. I recorded his 1997 Masters rounds, when he finished an astounding 18 shots under par and 12 ahead of number 2 Tom Kite. He demolished Augusta National, and caused the redesign of courses all over the country.
my little Grandmother (Mom’s Mom) was following him before he turned pro and said to anyone who came over while she had the Golf channel on that Tiger was going to be the greatest player seen in many, many years . . .
please dear God help the doctors to help him pull through this
My buddy and I went down on Thursday morning that year…my only Masters..we stayed at a hotel in SC so we could get there early. We watched Gene Sarazan, Sam Snead and Byron Nelson hit the honorary tee shots. That was 30 minutes before first group so we walked the whole course, then we moved around to different spots.
We were at the tee on # 6 when Tiger and Nick Faldo came through. Tiger was US Amateur champ and Faldo was reigning Masters champ after the comeback against Greg Norman the previous year which is the historical pairing. Tiger was 2 over after 5 holes. We kind of laughed and said…he’s out of it. We started following Paul Stankowski who was playing well and in group ahead of Tiger. On the back nine we kept hearing the yells…can’t miss them at Augusta. So we held back to see what was up.
Tiger almost hit us with his tee shot on 15 and we watched him hit his 2nd shot on the par 5 from 123 yds. I walked over after he hit and looked at the yardage marker in the ground. He hit it close and made eagle and of course the rest is history.
I didn’t really care for him with his cocky attitude and his philandering etc. but after his divorce and injuries…he kept his mouth shut and came back like a champ. I really respected that.
Praying for his recovery!
I started listening to Rush regularly about 1999/2000 when Tiger Woods was on the top of the world. I distinctly remember how much time Rush spent talking about him and the run he was on.
It seems very strange to lose Rush on Wednesday and now hear this news about Tiger. I hope Mr. Woods pulls through. He personifies- as Rush did- a certain vein of American spirit which America is sorely in need of at the moment.
Deja Vu. Is this another substance abuse issue with Tiger? So sad to see this happen.
There are many explanations besides substance abuse to explain this. Sometimes accidents happen
That is so true. There could have been a small pick elephant in the road. Being a kind animal lover he didn’t want to kill or even injure it, so he decided to sacrifice himself and ran off the road. That should probably be his story.
go . . . oh, nevermind
Why be snarky about it?
I never have been very respectful to idols and fetishes. It’s likely in my American DNA.
Comment deleted by Admin…
not being respectful is not the same as being disrespectful … and you are being disrespectful … and American DNA doesn’t kick a man when he is down …
Last time I checked, Americans are still free to speak their mind, even if what they have to say doesn’t please others. Tiger Wood is a sleaze. He doesn’t deserve any more respect than any other drunken, drug-addicted slut just because he plays a game well and others are dumb enough to make his rich for it.
Please appreciate his work ethic, dedication and commitment to excellence. That’s why people idolize him. They appreciate that he worked hard to be the absolute best in his field.
Tiger Wood is not a good person. He’s a sleaze who destroyed his marriage because he couldn’t keep it in his pants. He’s not admirable just because he can play a silly game well and got rich doing so. He is certainly not worthy of being idolized.
No.
A voice of reason. My God.
Not funny!
Yep. He could have been on his phone/texting.
But, since substance abuse played a role in the other 4 “accidents”, it’s obvious to assume that after his 5th back surgery, he has ANOTHER one car “accident”.
Damn, I didn’t realize he’s done this so many times already. Please get real help, Tiger. Not the resort “treatment centers” that don’t help you kick the pills.
WAIT FOR IT:
3, 2, 1 … => Climate Change.
Have you forgotten his previous car crash a few years back that was due to his abuse of painkillers? I’m not saying I know for sure but he has a history of this stuff occurring with Tiger driving alone in his car early mornings or late nights.
What??? Saint Tiger of the Wood? High? NOOO.
praying for you, Tiger!
When I saw him this week on TV at his golf tourney he didnt look right. I wondered about pain meds at the time. Best wishes for fast recovery.
I just saw a screenshot of him on tv over the weekend & that was my first thought that his face looked bloated, of course, I have no idea what it would be. Get well Tiger,
I thought the same.
He mentioned in the interview at the event this past weekend that he was having a second back surgery soon. Inwardly I groaned. Now this. Hope the surgery to repair his broken legs goes well. I hope the most expert orthopedic surgeon on the West Coast is on the case! Prayers for Tiger.
Steroids
I agree. He would have taken them immediately after awakening.
By the time he was in the car, they kicked in.
Possibly texting or other phone related distractions too.
Sure hope the damage is fixable. Yikes, just the impact forces shaking your neck around, etc… terrifying.
I know that spot on that road very well, and it is inherently hazardous, and requires full attention. Approaching Blackhorse Rd northbound, the slope of the already-steep downhill suddenly steepens – like topping a rollercoaster, and then bends to the right, just at the point where a large neighborhood dumps out onto the main road.
I never ever drive the right lane northbound at that intersection – it’s a deathtrap if someone pulls out of the neighborhood in front of you. It’s a 40 or 45mph speed limit but, due to the hill, your vehicle wants to do 55 to 60 unless you actively control it.
Looking at the aerial footage, Tiger never made the curve to the right – just kept going straight – which is exactly what would have happened if a 7:12 a.m. rush-hour commuter pulled out in front of him, cutting him off and forcing him to swerve left.
If this happened, and he was not watching his downhill speed (you actually have to punch the overdrive “OFF” button to drive this stretch safely). then he was guaranteed to go up and over the center median and climb the opposing hillside.
This is very un-PC, and no aspersions are meant, but nevertheless it’s 100% true: That area has a HUGE number of extremely inexperienced, middle-aged Asian female drivers who have recently come from overseas with husbands on corporate postings, and I myself have barely avoided several bad wrecks after some unbelievably bad driving moves in that town from this specific driving cohort.
Meaning, I could very realistically see someone pulling straight out in front of Tiger from Blackhorse Rd, and his having to take evasive action.
Then again, he could have blacked out. I doubt he was texting, because that stretch of road sort of forces you to hang up and drive. I’m not sure if there’s a traffic cam at that intersection, but if so it will tell the tale.
Prayers for Tiger’s full recovery!
And what about the car itself. Was the GV80 new to him? Maybe he didn’t realize how much power it had and driving on an unfamiliar road was disaster in the wind. I’m praying for his health and recovery from injury.
3 years ago, no way
But 2021, did the swamp try to kill him? That’s my level of trust in our Gov. They do want us dead. They have the capability to make it look like an accident.
Sad, but I do think this way.
That thought crossed my mind you know Friend of POTUS..
The thought that crossed my mind was the electronics on these new cars. Michael Hastings comes to mind.
On a just a golf level, I ALWAYS rooted against Tiger Woods. I put always in capital letters to stress how strongly I rooted against Tiger Woods. Being a huge Phil Mickelson fan has something to do with it. But I truly hope Tiger has turned his life around and he does seem more likeable than in his prime.
Exactly what crossed my mind.
Many newer vehicles 2000 and up can be controlled somewhat remotely via satellite signal, or cell tower. Most of the later models 2008+ can be completely controlled, many equipped with drive by wire… but that is not necessarily a requirement for them to wreck a vehicle, they could simply turn on one brake via the anti lock sensor, etc.
Personally, I wouldn’t rule it out. Never underestimate evil people.
Any Trump Supporter is labeled a Terrorist by the Democrat Commies in DC.
This reminds me of Aubrey Mcclendon. Obama DOJ was attacking him and then he died by car wreck the day after they indicted him. Note, They can control most modern cars via satellite.
Me too
Brakes failed maybe?
SUVs are notorious to roll
Top heavy
Something about the wheel base
Looks like he was traveling at a high rate of speed…no idea if he was impaired but we shouldn’t cast stones until the facts come out. If it was 2AM that’s one thing but 7:12AM is another.
Surgery as reported assumes that it has to on his legs and possibly interior. After viewing the crash scene it’s a wonder anyone survived.
Re the Genesis brand…I have a late model G80 and it’s a helluva car…one reason I bought mine was the highest rated safety rating of all mid size cars. In fact as SD stated he was driving a GV80 an SUV type and it probably saved his life due to the quality build.
number six:
I hear you on the quality of the Hyundai Genesis G80 sedan, and I’ve read Dan Neil’s recent WSJ review of the newly-released GV80 SUV, but I find this to be a profoundly top-heavy vehicle with overly-compliant suspension and beyond-ample engine power. Add the twisty, downhill grades and it could be a major contributing factor.
And given that this was the “Genesis Open” golf tournament, I’m sure they gave him the most powerful demo vehicle they had. My sincerest wishes for Tiger’s full recovery, but queue up the lawyers on this one. 1st, Bruce Springsteen & FCA Jeep, now Tiger Woods & Hyundai/Genesis. Yikes.
Photo that Sundance posted looks like it shows some luggage lined up on the ground outside of the vehicle. At 7 am, maybe running late for the airport or somewhere else. Sometimes accidents are…accidents. Hoping and praying that he’ll have a full recovery.
Sounds like he was late getting car from valet and was to meet Drew Breed and another NFL players for a “lesson” at 8am at Rolling Hills Golf Club.
I ran on a vehicle accident on I-10 one evening at 10 pm. Single vehicle rollover in the center divider, the sole occupant was ejected and died. I saw their phone ringing just up the road from where they were, I picked it up and asked the CHP officer if he wanted me to answer it, just kidding obviously. After the phone stopped ringing, I looked at the text messages and the number that was calling was texting with the person, most likely at the time of the crash. I bet he was replying to the people that went ahead to tell them he was on the way, it only takes a few seconds to get in a bad spot while texted. The person on I-10 hit the dirt just of the center divider, over corrected and rolled the vehicle. The last thing they ever did.
There could have been a vehicle malfunction, or human error due to distraction – answering a phone, heaven forbid, texting – glancing away from the road for a moment, so many things.
Things we’ve all done or been tempted to do.
Bless his heart, and his children’s.
Now we have a CNN jerk saying painkillers have sadly become part of Tiger’s life. What kind of journalism is that? Oh, wait…it’s not.
I missed that it was a rollover crash. I’ve been in one of those, and luckily it was just one roll and then back to upright.
Very sorry to see this. Tiger is a tough guy. He will make a good recovery. Hopefully he will be able to play again but that is not the priority now.
Prayers for a speedy recovery
In 17 the golf great had a DWI , also five different drugs were traced in his system ,Hydrocodone, an opioid pain medication; Hydromorphone, another type of painkiller; Alprazolam, an anxiety drug also under the brand name Xanax; Zolpidem, a sleep drug also under the brand name Ambien; and Delta-9 carboxy THC, which is found in marijuana, .
Thank the goodness that he was clean and sober at the time of this accident.
your snark is appreciated … classy
Yeah, I get your point. but, wow! Gives the appearance (to me) that he may have been Dr shopping to have all those drugs, in his system. smh I know that hydromorphone on it’s own, is highly addictive.

Well said, Flyover.
Prayers for him and all trauma victims. He will be lucky to not lose his legs…other news sites show tremendous front end damage…Praying for his doctors, too.
All the speculation here is simply foolish.
Tiger has overcome many human frailties in his life. President Trump praised him for that and honored him with the highest civilian award in our country. Those are facts to be discussed. Eventually data from the computer systems in that vehicle will tell a tale.
For all anyone knows an animal could have caused him to swerve. Just as possible someone pulled out in front of him. It wasn’t a car he owned so he was most likely not familiar with how it handles or maybe even it’s sightlines. There’s so many possible innocent reasons for this crash that anyone speculating the worst things about Tiger says more about the commenter than Tiger.
Prayers for Tiger and those of you who feel the need to immediately think the worst of someone.
Exactly! It was most likely an accident caused by telephone distraction. Chill, my Treepers. Life goes on.
Why is your speculation more valid than any other?
praying for Him get well very soon Tiger,
Praying for Tiger. He finally seemed to be happy with his life.
Maybe not as intuitive as they think. From the Genesis Website
Meet the first-ever SUV from Genesis, pushing the limits of style and performance with a full suite of intuitive technology, all-road capability, luxurious comfort for all passengers, and a design that stops you in your tracks
The theorists run wild on these events. Never mind the facts… Everyone has a theory. It’s like a parlor game.
I once turned a small car over on the onramp off of the 10 freeway in Santa Monica onto the 405 south. Broad sweeping turn. Going less than 55 mph speed limit for the turn. Tapped left curb with left front wheel, overcorrected, went into a spin which took out a light pole and rolled down a hill. Landed on car roof. Traffic sparse. If someone behind me hadn’t seen me disappear they might not have known I was there in the brush with no streetlight illumination.
I hadn’t been drinking. I had no cell phone. I simply overcorrected. Spun out.
coming from the china virus vaccination ? 😉
I’m going with squirrel crossing the road.
This was probably the first time he had driven this SUV. They were just released on a limited basis. That plays a huge part. I switch vehicles every three years, and believe me, it takes at least six months to become proficient on the handling limits of a new vehicle, including parking it by the way. Some take longer, especially front wheel drive (mostly) even if all wheel drive, and worse, those with lots of driver assistance.
Driver assistance is a two edge sword. In an emergency the steering gets a LOT lighter and the steering ratio gets a LOT quicker, which all leads to over corrections. I’ve had my own scares with those newer systems. I’ll put it this way – we’re the guinea pigs. Believe me, when those systems go online it can be scary, as in what the heck! Been there and after driving my new vehicle for close to two years I know what to expect, but it’s still not predictable. I still don’t like that feature.
Thanks for your input. I’m guessing they will probably pull these vehicles off the road, for awhile. until they find out exactly what went wrong.
It’s almost like a purchaser should take a tutorial or study the manual in depth before driving a new vehicle with all this modern technology
Being a friend of the PRESIDENT i can imagine his suv being hacked.
Out of all the people presented ? medal’s by PRESIDENT TRUMP.
How many are still alive?
A rollover where the sunroof doesnt break??
Hmm
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9292221/Tiger-Woods-hospital-rolling-car-L-road.html
Just FYI, they didn’t cut him out with the “jaws of life”. Based on the clean line of the windshield (lower part, just above the hood) they probably cut the windshield with an axe and he was in a position where they just pulled him out.
The sunroof didn’t break because it was probably a 1/4 roll over, just “tipped” over to that side. The damage to the front passenger wheel (top side in photo) tells me he hit something on that side pretty hard which probably caused the vehicle to career left and then “rolled” 1/4 turn down the bank.
if they would’ve need to cut him out with the jaws of life then all of the passenger side glass would’ve been removed, all pillars (A, B and C – front is A, B is next, etc) on the passenger side cut and either cut through on driver side to remove the roof or relief cuts to fold the roof out (just depends on how the patient is trapped) Plus the hood would’ve been removed, it’s in the way. LA County Fire probably had 2 Engine Companies and a Ladder Truck on scene fairly quickly – that’s 12 people. They would’ve tore this car a part in no time.
The media has no clue how to report anything. As Bongino has stated on his show, they”re some of the stupidest people he had to interact with as a Secret Service agent. I dealt with the same reported all the time and despite having been told the exact sequence of events the “news” story never got it right. I think it’s due to the “telephone” affect. You tell the reporter, they translate, tell the writer, they translate, tell the news director, they translate, the story gets written after being translated and is read by a TV personality who never saw or heard the events first hand which it is now the “news”. LA County Fire was probably told there was a bad accident with people trapped and that’s how the call was logged: “Traffic accident with extrication” – it doesn’t mean there was an extrication.
One night we were sent to a traffic accident with fire. Our dispatcher said there was a 3 vehicle accident with one car on fire. We never found it, we drove all over the place for 30 minutes looking because of the very specific report of 3 vehicles and one on fire. There wasn’t even another car on the road in the area! The news stations monitor fire and police frequencies along with live CAD’s. The call dispatching and CAD information can show one thing when reality is much different sometimes. Sorry for the rant, these issues have been some of my biggest pet peeves in 20+ years dealing with it
This morning’s report says that the SUV rolled several times. It also says that he had open fractures (through the skin) and required the surgical insertion of a rod in his right tibia, the main bone of two in the lower leg.
The jaws of life report is dead and gone. Within minutes local television was reporting that the Fire Department had had a change of plan and found that a hand tool and an axe were sufficient for windshield removal for extrication. Not worth chewing over today. It was not the media’s fault as that originated in the L. A. County Sheriff’s Department’s earliest report of the accident, a screen shot of which was immediately posted online. (It is in Sundance’s article as well.) It said the Jaws of Life was necessary. The Fire Department, according to the Fire Chief in their news conference yesterday, ultimately found that the “jaws” was not necessary and they used a hand tool and an axe to remove the front windshield. The FD regretted the confusioin.
Tiger Woods is half Asian.
Perhaps, he was DWA? We in the West Coast and Hawai’i know what that is.
Great golfer, inattentive driver.
Sources told ESPN that Woods has crush injuries of both lower legs, including a compound fracture and a shattered ankle. A crush injury occurs when a heavy object puts pressure onto a body part. He was undergoing surgery at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center..
https://www.espn.com/golf/story/_/id/30951717/tiger-woods-hospitalized-vehicle-rolls-crash
A dislodged engine moving back into passenger compartment causes this very serious damage.
I believe God spared Tiger’s life today. Tiger suffered horrible injuries and may not be able to play competitive golf in the future. Tiger is strong, a fighter and he will survive and probably inspire many others by his courage in the physical and mental healing he will undergo. Our prayers are with him.
I’ve cut many people out of cars, yup. Engine block into passenger compartment does a number on the legs, steering wheel the chest, windows and roof the head.
However, you’d be amazed at what people walk away from and what people don’t: sometimes we’d walk up to a car and say there’s no way anyone survived but they did. BMW’s are very good at taking the energy away from the occupants. I’d have to see how this exactly occurred but my gut is this vehicle isn’t very “safe” in that some other vehicles in that class would’ve done a better job protecting the occupant (however, speed, what he hit, etc make a big difference)
Looking at the map, I bet he was staying at the Terranea Resort: Hawthorne Blvd is fastest route to Rolling Hills Country Club where he was to meet Drew Brees for the video shoot. Sounds like his people went ahead of him to get things ready. He was probably driving a little faster in a hurry and trying to answer a text saying he was almost there to the club. It only takes a split second to hit something/get in the dirt and then over correct as you look up from what you were doing. You always end up where you’re looking! If you’ve never driven on a skip pan, it’s amazing how you can drive the course and never spin out if you keep looking where you want to go rather than where the car is going.
Having spent my whole adult life responding to these types of calls this makes the most sense. I the same age as Tiger and grew up playing junior golf in So Cal around the same time as him. We were a few hours north of LA so I didn’t play in as many junior golf tournaments in the LA area like he did. I know he probably played Rolling Hills numerous times and was probably very familiar with the roads.
I hope he wasn’t texting, but my money is on it. That’s why I get so mad at my wife for texting while driving (plus she worked on an ambulance as a paramedic!!).
Disappointed in the posts I see here. Stay classy treehouse…
Jeez
I know we are weaning off of tweeter, but this video is really cool the similarities between a father and son are a great example of life everlasting
Just read this article. Don’t like ESPN but this is the most detailed, complete article (as of now) that I’ve read. Details on what he’d been doing, what he was doing on Monday and Tuesday at Rolling Hills CC, info on the accident and the aftermath:
https://www.espn.com/golf/story/_/id/30951717/tiger-woods-hospitalized-vehicle-rolls-crash
It’s a four lane road, with a curbed median about 4-6 feet wide. Very wide open, but steep downhill in the direction that he was going. He was driving down the left lane. The road curves slightly right, but he went exactly straight. The place where his car ended up is exactly in line with the left hand lane before the road curved right.
He was probably texting, probably typing something as that takes more of your attention than reading. I’d say he was doing 50-60 or so.
When the road curved slightly right, he stayed straight and hit the median curve that was to the left of his car and that separates the Tiger east bound lanes from the west bound lanes. Remember, this is a steep downhill road. 50 mph momentum steeply downhill is equal to 70 mph momentum on the flat.
He probably got airborne, and he flew diagonally across the 2 oncoming lanes that were to the left of the median. Hitting the curb got his attention from his phone, and in a quick second or so he looked up and processed the situation.
But by that time he was halfway across the two oncoming lanes going towards the trees to the his left of those lanes. Hitting the original curb diagonally created a rocking motion as he was in the air. First his front left tire hit the curb, then the front right, then rear left then the rear right. When he landed in the oncoming lanes he was bouncing a bit.
He turned his wheel to the right so he could stay to the right of the trees and go down the oncoming lanes. He’s too smart to jerk the wheel far right (that would guarantee that the car would roll), so I wouldn’t be surprised if he turned it partially right.
But he had too much speed and momentum, and not enough time to straighten it out. His car either hit the first curb, bounced and started rolling (since he had the wheel turned right, and his momentum was to the left), or he hit the far left curb as he was trying to get the car to go right (again, his momentum was to the left of where his steering wheel was turned), and hitting the curb at an angle, at that high rate of speed, his car started rolling.
As he went over the far left curb, he rolled and tumbled violently through the trees. I wouldn’t be surprised if he had a concussion in addition to his other injuries.I figured he rolled 5-10 times, probably closer to 10.
He was very lucky for many reasons. No cars in the oncoming lanes, no big trees, the hill that slowed his rolling and stopped his car after he rolled through the trees, and, as he left the road, he missed a telephone pole by 15-20 feet.
If he was going 30 mph, maybe 40, he could have recovered after he hit the initial median curb. But he was going just too fast, for even his quick reaction time, to be able to avoid the accident. This happened very quickly. 60 miles per hour is 88 feet per second. It’s 150 feet from the original contact first curb to the second curb (where he started rolling).
His car was probably rolling within 2 1/2 seconds of originally hitting the first curb, and only 1 1/2 seconds after he was able to look up and be aware of what was happening.
I don’t think that a professional stunt driver, being put in Tiger’s situation with 1 1/2 seconds to react, could have gotten out of the accident either.
He was very, very lucky.
And looking at the new video released of his car driving before the accident (saw it on a Fox News pop up), it seems he was driving the speed limit or there abouts.
I’m still thinking he was texting and either got off course, tried to recover and over corrected which caused him to hit something or he hit something because he went of course. From the picture above of the vehicle off the road, it appears the wheels were turning left when the front impact occurred. I just wanna know what he hit. That’s some significant damage in the front, he probably didn’t roll over but rather rolled a 1/4 turn onto the side once he went off the road.
I’m hoping the reports of crush type leg injuries are wrong and it’s just some broken bones from the crushing type mechanism of injury. I could easily see him getting a compound fracture in one of his lower legs, hopefully he didn’t break a femur.
Nah, understandable idea, but no – not at that spot- one in a million. Used to do a lot of jobs and know that intersection in my sleep. Someone upthread mentioned deer, No deer anywhere within at least 40-50 miles. Squirrels know better than to cross that particular stretch – too wide & well traveled. They are well and happy in that large neighborhood & no need to wander.
I am now extremely curious if there’s a camera at the intersection of Hawthorne Blvd. & Blackhorse Rd, because either Tiger was just madly speeding and lost it on a road I’d bet he’s traveled quite a bit (Trump National is on the back side of the hill) or I think there’s a real chance that another car pulled in/out of Blackhorse (happens often due to limited sight lines) & Tiger (maybe reacting late due to texting) had to swerve left really suddenly out of his lane.
Any emergency leftward swerve at that intersection heading northbound doing anything over about 45 and you’re likely over the median and into oncoming traffic. Important point to reiterate – there is no guardrail protecting the very-low median.
NOTE: I heard something weird during the fire-dept conference, that I don’t know has come out: (and maybe I heard this wrong – I was in and out of the room). I swear I heard the chief say that there was also a non-injury accident.
So potentially there was more than one car wrecked this morning? Again makes me wonder if there was a traffic SNAFU at Blackhorse that sent Tiger off the road….?
sorry, too late to edit, even after 2 minutes…. I just read that the other accident happened later, when a vehicle that pulled over to help was struck by an oncoming car (people do drive like maniacs on that stretch of Hawthorne!)
Woods family need to contact doctors Steve Olvey and Terry Trammel, he may not play again but they might be able to allow him to walk again.
I’m relatively indifferent to Tiger Woods’ health and welfare. I don’t care about golf, so I’m not a fan. The main thing I associate with him is sleaziness and betrayal. I don’t wish him ill, but I don’t care what happens to him.
Already posted comments similar to this several times. We understand the whole freedom of speech thing, but what’s your point? How many times do you plan to show up and repeat esssentially the same comment?
When myth meets man and all its weaknesses.
Tiger was made to be something no human should endure.
He is human and he sins.
If he was texting at the time, I hope he has learned his lesson, and, from now on leaves his phone in the trunk of his car when driving. Too many people do this when driving. I see them nodding their heads up and down, when we are stopped at a traffic light. Sometimes I have to honk my horn, because they are still texting when the light has turned green.
Tiger is lucky that the accident only involved himself.
Tiger had charisma and made golf interesting. Jon Rahm summed it up best when he said you can have the 20 best golfers in the world playing, but if Tiger is there, it has a different feel.
I just want him to heal and hope people will respect his privacy. His talent has brought a great deal of joy to his fans. My best wishes to him.
