From an article at Yummly. I’m going with Kentucky on this one. Runners up are Louisiana, Florida, Minnesota, and New Jersey, the state that came closest to knocking Kentucky out of my favorite position.
I am verklempt at Tennessee not having a Jack Daniel’s cookie. I’ll console myself with Gentleman Jack and a slice of Jack Daniel’s cake.
And really, Nebraska and Alaska, sad. You guys need some help.
Sigh. No political comments, and for goodness sakes, why make an even slightly off color comment on a cookie thread? Use some sense, please. If the fun of this thread escapes you then go comment on the other threads. Please.

I love Pralines! I prefer them slightly chewy, rather than crumbly.
Hi Gracie!! It’s been ages…..hope you and the family are having a blessed and splendid holiday season. ❤️

Hope this works for ya’ll
It worked! Thanks for the tip! I also deleted all prior comments of mine (lots of “test” posts). One more thing: unlike WordPress, I do not get notifications if anyone responds to my comments on The Conservative Treehouse — is there a way to do that?
Not yet, but I have hopes for the future!
Lived in CA from day one, and have never heard of “our State favorite”- persimmon cookies.
Forever Favorite? Mom’s chewy but crispy chocolate chip with walnuts.
Must say Lurker….same for me. I’ll see your chewy chocolate chip and raise you a walnut. 😀
I’ve never heard of Persimmon cookies in Calif either but they sound DELICIOUS and I’ve got to have one! Will look for them here in Arizona.
My chocolate chip with pecans are always a favorite, but this year I found a new one to add. My family LOVED them. They are called Spreads from the Pioneer Woman. So rich and gooey. My husband’s eyes glazed over!
I just have to add, I have lived in Texas my entire life and although brittle is known, I do not believe that it is the “favorite” of the state.
I hear that Miami Florida’s favorite cookies are shipped from Columbia. They are like large Oreo cookies, except the middle is completely encapsulated with a lot of powdery filling. Strangely enough, they are sold on corners.
Ginger cookies are my no 1 cookie
I’m not 100% sure what they’re called, but I think its no-baked cookies. My sister and her daughters makes them. I think I could survive on those cookies alone. It’s been a long tome since I had them because they all live in PA and we are in FL.
Maggiemoo, do these sound like them?

They’re soooo easy and soooo good!
Yes, that’s them???? Thank you soooo much.
Dunno, kinda a lame list, and not sure I believe the whole data research thing, but fun to read through them. Some of them are candies and not cookies. I don’t believe the choice for VA.
Colorado trees were cute.
Not one state had Magic Cookie Bars as their choice for a favorite?
Homemade Danish butter cookies are the best.
I just wish the graphics weren’t all broken here in the comments 🙁
Hopscotch cookies or as some call them haystacks.
Oreo Stuffed Chocolate chip cookies. People fight over them in the break room at work.
My mother-in-law’s homemade springerle. They are the best!
While not from Iowa, my family loves the Chocolate Crinkle Cookies. They are the most requested cookie I bring to events.
But I also enjoy so many of the other confections found on the list and will try making some of those I have not yet tried.
Shortbread or sugar cookies are always a good go to for any occasion. 🙂
As with pizza, cookies aren’t representative of any particular culinary aplomb. Cookies, I think, reflect more an ambiance than a striking presence.
Ones memories of the partaking of the cookie, weigh heavier than the actual thing itself and colors our preferences.
Having said that, and as a Texan, I have to say “Brittle”? Come on, folks! Brittle is a concoction not a cookie.
One word: tollhouse!
All tied for 1st place!
Military family, I’ve lived 12 places: California, Arizona, New York, Massachusetts, Alabama, Virginia, Mississippi, Washington, Colorado, Kansas, Panama, Italy
p.s. AMERICAN MADE COOKIES WIN HANDS DOWN!
Made one of two ‘must have’ Christmas cookies last week, and from here in northern Minnesota I have to say the Yummly article had it wrong.
“In Minnesota, they’re looking for Russian tea cookies. If the buttery cookies look familiar, it’s because they’re the same as Mexican wedding cookies, snowballs, and pecan balls. Whatever you decide to call them, they are 100% delicious and are one of the most popular holiday Christmas cookies.”
For sure these little fat pills full of butter and nuts have many names; Russian Tea Cakes, Mexican Wedding Cakes, Snowballs and Pecan Dust Balls, but, in this very Scandinavian state — and from my 100% Swedish mama — these are called Swedish Butter Balls.
Tomorrow I’ll make what my husband calls “Wall tiles” — otherwise known to me a Krumcakka (don’t have the recipe card here to check my spelling) — or very, very, very hard Gingerbread Men
Toll House chocolate chip. I always add a bit more baking soda so that they come out thin and a little crispy but still chewy.
All sounds so good!
