Sunday November 22nd – Open Thread

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

Oh dear, pardon my typos. This should read, “I hope everyone has blessed—and peaceful— Sunday, Treepers. I really, really hate it when I can’t see my own errors.; . .

Thanks, Garrison…a delight on many levels…

David’s great Psalm of repentance concerning his adultery with Uriah’s wife Bathsheba, and his conspiring to murder Uriah to hide it. (LXX Psalm 50, Psalm 51 for most Protestants).

The Orthodox use it in almost every service, and many Orthodox incorporate it in their daily prayer rule. It’s considered a model for how a repentant heart should approach God.

I enjoyed all the images of Orthodox clergy and monks and monasteries.

Anyone know where the photograph was taken that appears at the 1 minute mark was taken?

Orthodox people – Am I seeing St. Raphael of Brooklyn in that image?

    Find It In His Grace

    By Pastor Ricky Kurth

When asking for forgiveness, the world has an expression they frequently use. They say, “Can you find it in your heart to forgive me?” But to paraphrase an old saying, they are asking others to look for forgiveness in all the wrong places! “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked” (Jer. 17:9). Any forgiveness that someone finds there is likely to come with conditions and many strings attached.

If you are finding it difficult to forgive someone, rather than trying to find it in your heart, find it in God’s grace.

“And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you” (Eph. 4:32)

Perhaps you are thinking, “Pastor, you don’t know how this brother offended me.” It’s true, I don’t. But was it more than how your sins offended God? Yet He forgave all of your sins by His grace, and now asks you to forgive your brother by grace. God was “satisfied” with the payment Christ made on the cross for your brother’s offense (Isa. 53:11), and has forgiven him for what he did to you. If you fail to forgive him by God’s grace, that means your standards are higher than His.

So don’t be like the world, looking for forgiveness in all the wrong places. If your brother’s sin “abounded” against you, let God’s grace “much more abound” (Rom. 5:20), even as it did when God forgave you. “Receive not the grace of God in vain” (2 Cor. 6:1). Let it abound in your life to others. Be a grace believer in the highest sense of the name.

Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

Ephesians 4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

Isaiah 53:11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

Romans 5:20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:

2 Corinthians 6:1 We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.

We’ve be looking at this all wrong. Trump isn’t fighting the democrats for stealing an election. He’s fighting the entire DC establishment for stealing the election. That includes many Republicans too. The house democrats and the Senate Republicans tried to sabotage him for 4 years. They failed. The final bipartisan attempt was election fraud. Where the republicans bargained to keep the Senate and sacrifice the house and oval office to the democrats. Divided government. Stalemate. Status Quo. Gridlock. The Kraken will be the ugly that democrats and Republicans have both done to our people and places. Trump’s going to expose it all. Now is the time to burn down the republican party and show them they are nothing without Trump and his base. Kick them hard on their heads.

Speaking of Newsome’s arrogance…there’s a moment in the trending documentary Kiss the Ground where he brags about the coercive tactics behind the recycling program he set up as mayor of San Francisco. He says with a smirk:

“If you wanna move the mouse, you gotta move the cheese…”

Let’s hope enough Californians are tired of being regarded as Gavin’s pet mice.

The recall is around 800,000 signatures right now. They want 1,700.000. A CA resident can digitally sign the recall.

Among the Saints of God who are commemorated today, November 9th on the traditional Calendar of the Orthodox Christian Church and November 22nd on the civil calendar, is Saint Nektarios, Metropolitan of Pentapolis, the Wonderworker (+ 1920). He is often known as Saint Nektarios of Aegina, the Greek island where he lived.

Saint Nektarios was a Bishop, teacher, and prayerful theologian who wrote a beautiful and famous hymn in honor of the Theotokos, the Ever-Virgin Mary, called “Agni Parthene”. He was ill with prostate cancer at the end of his earthly life at age 74. By the Grace of God he is known as a healer of cancer.

“Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” 1 Cor. x. 31

Beware of allowing yourself to think that the shallow concerns of life are not ordained of God; they are as much of God as the profound. It is not your devotion to God that makes you refuse to be shallow, but your wish to impress other people with the fact that you are not shallow, which is a sure sign that you are a spiritual prig. Be careful of the production of contempt in yourself, it always comes along this line, and causes you to go about as a walking rebuke to other people because they are more shallow than you are. Beware of posing as a profound person; God became a Baby.

To be shallow is not a sign of being wicked, nor is shallowness a sign that there are no deeps: the ocean has a shore. The shallow amenities of life, eating and drinking, walking and talking, are all ordained by God. These are the things in which Our Lord lived. He lived in them as the Son of God, and He said that “the disciple is not above his Master.”

Our safeguard is in the shallow things. We have to live the surface common-sense life in a common-sense way; when the deeper things come, God give them to us apart from the shallow concerns. Never show the deeps to anyone but God. We are so abominably serious, so desperately interested in our own characters, that we refuse to behave like Christians in the shallow concerns of life.

Determinedly take no one seriously but God, and the first person you find you have to leave severely alone as being the greatest fraud you have ever known, is yourself.

Dear Sundance Ad rem et al.
Totally off topic but as a dedicated followers of all things on the Tree house, is there any way someone could put a very large mask on that face of O’Bama advertising Jack Cashells book on the side bar?
It puts me off my breakfast each morning when I visit.

  15. Charles Dodgson says:

Suggestion for a feature when you migrate to the new platform. A “most posted” thread. Ad Rem periodically posts an item to this thread that has been posted multiple times. Subsequent posts of the same thing can be deleted from other threads.

I understand how it happens. Few people have time to go through 1000+ posts to see if it’s already been posted. But for example, the new SC assignments must have been posted 100 times.

Obviously this wouldn’t be perfect, but might help.

If you are looking for some Christmas presents – like books! – to get away from the computers and T.V. screens – books with a mystery and a sarcastic Conservative narrator 🙂 – and a funny narrator commenting on the follies of our Leftist society….let me recommend a trilogy:

America does well fighting our enemies, we seem to need a fight to engage us. Whoever put this together knew that. We fight against our brothers and sisters and the instigators become the winners.
Our fight is never against flesh and blood, that’s why our lord put it in the instruction book. When we look to men we find fault, even ourselves. We must look to our Lord, eyes on the standard.

How do we solve all the years of deceit we have been fed? Eyes on Our Lord, no man has those answers unless he is led by the Lord.
We must pray it through, we prayed it up to this point, let’s finish strong God is with us.
